Reds stun Marcus Whitman in tennis The Lady Reds high school tennis team won their fourth match of the year, over defending Finger Lakes West Champion Marcus Whitman, at Whitman. Newark upended the defending champs with stellar play by Chelsie Hinckley, Stacey Brooks and Allison Minger. Hinckley, playing at 3rd singles, came from behind in the first set to win 7-5 then 6-0 in the second set. She is undefeated this season with a 6-0 record having wins over Canandaigua, Harley Allendale Columbia, Penn Yan, Marion, Lyons and Marcus Whitman. Brooks defeated an outstanding opponent at 1st singles by winning in straight set victories 6-2 and 6-4. Minger came from down a set in 2nd singles, to clinch the victory for the Reds. She won in the second set, 6-0 and won 6 to 3 in the final set. Marcus Whitman was not only the top team in the Finger Lakes West last year, but the team was picked to win it again this year and defeated powerhouse HAC before losing to Newark. The Reds defeated North Rose-Wolcott yesterday at Newark and posted their fifth win of the season, with a 5-0 sweep. Brooks won 6-1, 6-4, Minger won 6-3, 6-0, Hinckley won 6-1, 6-1. Newark's doubles teams also won. Lynne Harris & Katelyn Zonneville won 6-4 and 6-3, while Allison Wilck & Tabitha Kramer won 7-5 and 6-2.
