Gananda Girl Scouts earn Bronze Awards

Nine 12 year olds from Troop 448 in Gananda ended the summer with a picnic to celebrate their accomplishments as Junior Girl Scouts.

The girls, now in seventh grade at Gananda Middle School, bridged to Cadettes, the next level of Girl Scouting. It was a night of celebration, as eight of the girls earned their Bronze Award for their self-entitled Bronze Award project: 'Help Us Help Them.'

Each girl had to spend 15 hours on this service project that included promoting the Wayne County Humane Society and collecting items for the animals who are housed there. They are shown with some of the puppies, who have all been placed in homes.

This project was in addition to several other activities the girls do around the community such as Scouting for Food and the Gananda Community Clean-up.

After they were presented with their Bronze Award pins, the girls received their bar showing they had become Cadettes. You'll continue to see Troop 448 around the community this year, as they continue a busy schedule that is full of service projects. Receiving Bronze Awards were Zoe Paris, Kristina Keenan, Abby Kois, Lauren Tichacek, Nina Ho, Jessica Stookey, Katie Drake and Jenni Stearns. They all bridged to Cadettes with Alexandra Cunningham, who had received her Bronze Award at an earlier date in Connecticut. The girls are glad to welcome her back to Troop 448.

The Girl Scouts Three Sisters Service Unit includes the Palmyra, Macedon and Gananda school districts. Sign up for Girl Scouts at Gananda/ Richard Mann Elementary School on September 17, from 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Also register September 18, 6:30 to 8 at Macedon Elementary School cafeteria, and September 18 from 6:30 to 8 at Western Presbyterian Church in Palmyra.
