CCE Celebrates Apple Fest ‘08!

Come celebrate Cornell Cooperative Extension Week and National 4-H Week on Thursday, October 9, 3-6pm at the CCE office on Rte 88N in Newark with our fourth annual apple fest. A highlight of the afternoon is the apple pie contest – all ages are encouraged to participate!

apple pieBeth Claypoole, Executive Director and Ag Issues Leader for Cornell Cooperative Extension Wayne County reports that "Wayne County is the largest apple county in NYS and the second largest apple county in the United States! More than $40 million of apples are produced each year in this county. The countryside is packed with acres of apples and we are celebrating our bounty!"

As part of Apple Fest ’08, CCE is calling all bakers. Pies will be accepted up to 5:15 PM, with celebrity tasting starting at 5:30pm. All pies must be cooled. Any container will do, just don’t supersize it! Come see how you rate with other apple pie bakers in Wayne County. Pie samples will be available after judging is finished.

Other events at Apple Fest include: crafts for kids, energy savings bike demonstration, taste testing apple recipes, apple variety samples, lost of apple cider will be available! Come and sample what Cornell Cooperative Extension Wayne County has to offer at this FREE event!
