Trail Works announces Wegmans Passport to Family Fitness program LYONS - Trail Works announces the opening of the Wegmans Passport to Family Fitness program, which began April 1 and runs for one year. Passports and maps needed to participate are available at local libraries and other venues county wide. Most are familiar with the song, 'Fifteen Miles on the Erie Canal.' Now, the Wegmans Passport to Family Fitness program is publicizing sixteen trails throughout Wayne County. Trail maps direct participants to trails of varying length, such as the 1/4 mile Lockville Trail, the 4.4 mile Williamson Town Loop Trail and the six mile linear Sodus-Wallington Rail Trail. Some of the trails are of historic interest, like the trails that take hikers past abandoned structures of the Enlarged Erie Canal at Black Brook Park. Some trails feature natural beauty, like the striking formations of Chimney Bluffs. Participants in the fitness program take their passports with them to each trail and look for rubbing posts located along the trail. Rubbings from trail posts transferred to passports are proof that participants have hiked the trails. Proof of hiking six trails rewards hikers with a coupon for a free Wegmans product. After hiking 12 trails, hikers are rewarded with a $5 Wegmans gift card. Upon completion of all 16 trails, hikers' names' are entered into a drawing for a $100 Wegmans gift card or a pavilion picnic for 20 people, courtesy of Wegmans. Thanks also to other generous donors, Lowes of Macedon, Wal-Mart of Newark and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County. This program is sponsored by Trail Works of Wayne County, which is dedicated to promoting healthy life- styles. Additional information, including trail maps and how to join Trail Works is available by visiting www.trailworks.org. Copyright
