Foster care - the Easter Bunny project

ALTON - Imagine children coming down on Easter morning to find an Easter basket full of goodies and a cute little bunny, as gifts from the Easter Bunny.

Two weeks later parents are arguing with their children to clean the bunny's pen or feed it or give it water. Or worse yet, parents discover the child is allergic to the bunny.

It is never a good idea to get a pet for any holiday gift. Rabbits, chicks and ducklings are no exception. Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven has an alternative. Foster caring an animal from the Palace is a 'try it before you buy it' solution.

After completing a form and receiving instructions from a Palace volunteer, a family can be set up with a rabbit that they can keep in foster care for up to three months. If at the end of the three months, the family decides to keep the bunny, they can adopt it at that time. If things don't work out, they can return it to the farm.

Last year, there were several successful adoptions from our Foster Care the Easter Bunny project. This year there are over two dozen bunnies in all colors and sizes.
