WATKINS GLEN - Girl Scout volunteers from Wayne County were honored Saturday at a Girl Scouts Seven Lakes Council luncheon at Watkins Glen. Receiving the Girl Scout Appreciation Pin were Andrea Petrus of Clyde, Rita Lesniak of Sodus, Jane Milem of North Rose and Terri Williams of Lyons.

The Appreciation Pin honors outstanding service to Girl Scouting in one or more geographic areas. Nominations are made to the council's volunteer adult awards task group, which makes final award selections.

Petrus is the volunteer manager of Girl Scouts in the Clyde/Savannah community. Her service unit consistently achieves or surpasses its membership goal each year and the adults involved return year after year. This year the area also received the Girl Scout President's Award for meeting a prescribed set of criteria including adult training and membership retention. Volunteers know Petrus spends almost every lunch hour working on Girl Scouts.

'A creative individual with a wonderful heart,' said one nominator. 'She is our rock, our mentor and our team builder.'

Lesniak leads a troop of seniors graduating this year, a group she has led since they were Girl Scout Daisies in kindergarten. They are role models for the younger girls, thanks to all she has instilled in them. Lesniak also handled the magazine and book sale in the community for several years.

Milem has organized recruitment events, facilitated leader meetings and community service projects, handled communications, council day camps, trainings and filled in for the volunteer manager of two service areas.

Williams provides monthly events in her service unit, while continuing to provide the girls in her troop with quality program. Name a position and she has done most of them. A Girl Scout Cadette leader, she also mentors new Daisy troops and volunteers her assistance at any council event she attends.

Girl Scouts-Seven Lakes Council serves girls in 13 counties. Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. For more information, call the council at 539-5085 or visit www.girlscoutssevenlakes.org.
