Palmyra Crop Walk slated for May 2 PALMYRA - The 2009 Crop Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, May 2 on the canal path in Palmyra and is three to five miles in length. The Crop Walk consists of individuals, families and teams who recruit donors to pledge money. Its purpose is to raise funds and awareness about hunger issues at the global, national and local level. Through this event, hungry families have improved their own food security; families have clean, safe water; self-development programs have helped communities overcome deep poverty. For the last 20 years, the number of participants has averaged 175 walkers, raising over $10,635, of which 25 percent is retained at the Palmyra, Macedon and Farmington food pantries. Businesses, churches, organizations and schools are challenged to participate, to form a team.
