Sign up for 2009 Agricultural Management Assistance SYRACUSE - New York agricultural producers statewide have until May 1 to apply for conservation assistance through the Agricultural Management Assistance Program. The program was re-authorized in the Food, Conservation and Energy Act of 2008. The 2009 AMA Program in New York will focus on practices that improve irrigation efficiency on cropland, including micro-irrigation, pipeline, pumping plant and irrigation water management. One of the primary goals of AMA is to assist agricultural producers in mitigating risk through production diversification or installation of conservation practices. Applicants will compete for funds through a statewide funding pool, and must apply by May 1 to be considered for 2009 funding. Applications for AMA are competitive and are ranked based on national and state-identified resource priorities and their overall benefit to the environment.
