Ginegaw Park lodge nearly complete
by BOB PLAN
Walworth Supervisor

Too bad Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, so we are supposed to have six more weeks of winter. I know some people are enjoying it. It's been a long winter for the rest of us, but bundle up, get outside and make the best of it. If nothing else, take a walk and enjoy the beauty of the snow and breathe in the clean, cold air. It sure is better than hurricanes, floods and wildfires.

The new lodge at Ginegaw Park will be up within the next two weeks. We will then start to look for volunteers to help finish the inside. Anyone with any carpentry, plumbing or electrical skills that can offer us a hand may call the town hall at 986-1400 and talk to Jackie or Linda. They will be having a schedule of what needs to be done and when. This new building is an exciting addition for all of us, and we hope to be able to start using it by June.

The county has been hit with state cutbacks in many areas. The Wayne County Board of Supervisors is looking at all of the items to see how we are going to address each loss. In many cases, you may see us having to cut back services in order to stay within budget. In other cases, the state is mandating that we, the county, make up the cost difference. We will all have to work hard to keep the budget in line this year. It may mean that some of the programs we want will have to be cut back or eliminated.

The West Walworth Road reconstruction in the hamlet has started. This is a county project that I fought hard to keep in the budget this year. This section of road has been in need of this repair for a long time. If you travel that route this spring and summer, you may want to find an alternate route during the construction. It will be kept open for residents and businesses in the area, so keep in mind that if you use one of the businesses in that area you can still get to it.

The highway department has had a very busy winter so far. Remember that if you see a plow on the road, do not get too close and be patient. They don't go as fast as a car when they are plowing and sanding and sometimes they stop and back so give them room. Thank you to the men who work in the cold, dark, snowy hours to keep our roads safe. Thanks also to the families of these men who often have to be without them for dinners, parties and school functions.

Thanks to the snowmobile club for its efforts to make trails visible within the park. The marked trails will keep our playing fields and sidewalks from being damaged. There are still a few snowmobilers who are not cooperating - we see your tracks - and I still receive complaints. I am asking you to please find the designated trails and stay on them.

Another famous book sale for the Walworth Friends of the Library will be held March 25 through 27. Meet with the Supervisor will be held 9 to 10 a.m. March 7 at the Lincoln Fire Department. Friends of the Parks meeting will be on held 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12. We are looking for new members and new ideas.
