NEWARK: The first baby of 2009 born at the Birthing and Women's Care Unit at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital was Taylor Lee Smith, born to Tiffany and Josh Smith of North Rose at 3:24 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Delivered by Dr. A. Somaskanda, Taylor weighed 6 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19 inches long. She was welcomed by her 3-year-old brother, Austin. Baby Smith and her parents received a large stocking filled with baby items and a gift basket given by the nurses at the Birthing Center, the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary and volunteers and the hospital.
