LYONS: Wayne County Sheriff Richard Pisciotti announced that effective Monday, Jan. 12, the sheriff's office will process pistol permits by appointment only. Walk-in requests will not be granted. Applicants can call 946-5790 to request an appointment time. Appointments will be scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Tuesday.

The sheriff's office has experienced an extremely large increase in the number of pistol permit applications. This policy change is necessary, so that sheriff personnel can provide fair and equitable service to all applicants.

Cost of a pistol permit application remains $124.25 and can be paid in cash only. Photo identification and documentation of Wayne County residency is also required.
