Wal-Mart Supercenter expansion under way DiMarco Construction, General Contractors for the Newark Wal-Mart Super Center have begun to prepare the site for the 56,292- square-foot expansion. NEWARK: After four years of planning and delays, the transformation of the Arcadia Wal-Mart into a Supercenter is finally underway. Construction of the 56,292- square-foot addition at the Route 31 store, located on the east end of the village, has begun. When complete, the revamped shopping spot will include an expanded clothing selection, and a food department, but will not feature a tire and lube express as originally planned. In November, the village of Newark Code Enforcement office issued a building permit based on an estimated construction cost of $10 million. 'This is the largest building permit that I have ever prepared,' said Code Enforcement Office Secretary, Linda Baker. Nearly four years ago, Wal-Mart stores, based in Arkansas, announced plans for five area super-centers, each within a half hours drive of each other. The Macedon store, about 15 miles west on Route 31 opened last year. The Newark, Geneva, and Seneca Falls stores were delayed - until now. Construction completion is slated for September. Company officials said that while they are building the new addition there will be no inconveniences Photo by John Zornow Copyright
