The Underground Railroad: Linking Art with History

ROCHESTER: In celebration of Black History Month and continuing the yearlong Conversations With Garth series, presented by Preferred Care, Garth Fagan Dance is teaming up with local institutions and professionals for The Underground Railroad: Linking Art with History Feb. 7 and 8 at the Rochester Museum & Science Center.

This two-day entertaining, educational, multi-media event features components of film, dance and literature, as panelists discuss and highlight the resounding and profound effect that the Underground Railroad has had on their work. Saturday evening will target the adult audience, while Sunday discussions will be geared toward families.

Excerpts from the works of world-renowned choreographer Garth Fagan, author and Empire State College professor Dr. Elaine Handley and award-winning documentary producer Dave Marshall will be presented. Both days will feature a performance from Garth Fagan Dance and excerpts from Marshall's new film. Admission also includes access, during museum hours, to the new interactive exhibit at Rochester Museum & Science Center, Flight to Freedom: Rochester's Underground Railroad.

Event times are as follows: Saturday, Feb 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. Both programs will be held in the Eisenhart Auditorium at Rochester Museum & Science Center at Goodman Street and East Avenue.

Individual tickets may be purchased online at www.garthfagandance.org or by calling (585) 454-3260. Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and $20 for students.
