P & C to close Newark and Macedon Stores NEWARK - February 7, 2009 will be the last day that residents will be able to shop at the Newark P&C Foods. The grocery store located in the Arcadia Shopping Center on Newark’s eastside, along with the P&C store in Macedon, will close their doors. About 41 employees at the Newark store and 53 in Macedon will be affected. A press release from Syracuse based, Penn Traffic Company, owner of P & C Markets, said that the move was needed to improve the company’s long term financial performance. Six other P&C Foods stores in New York and Vermont are also closing In December of 2008, Penn Traffic announced that it was selling its wholesale division, and quitting an unprofitable commercial bakery business.
