Students recognized for exam performance Five former Newark High School students and one current senior have earned Advanced Placement Scholar awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on Advanced Placement exams last year. The 2008 graduates are Dillion Jinks, Kristin McCormack, Richard “Scooter” Rosenthal, Nathan Thayer and Rebecca VanDuyne. Thomas VanDuyne, a member of the NHS Class of 2009, was also honored. The awards are presented to students who achieve a score of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. Three other 2008 graduates, Allison Burnham, Terence “Willie” Clark and Kelsey Milner, earned Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction awards for receiving an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. The College Board’s Advance Placement Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement or both for their performance on the exams.
