Wayne County receives AmeriCorps funding

LYONS - AmeriCorps Mentoring and Peer Services, administered by Wayne County Action Program, Inc., seized the opportunity to expand services to the Wayne County area in response to the current economic climate by applying for, and receiving funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

AmeriCorps Mentoring and Peer Services is one of a family of National Service programs sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service. Members serve locally in non-profit settings enhancing the services the host agency provides.

Our new funding provides for 12 full-time opportunities beginning July. Members earn a living allowance, are eligible for health care and child care subsidies, while serving and receive an education award upon completion of service.

For more information about becoming an AmeriCorps member or host site, call Program Director Laura Burghdorf at 946-1259 or e-mail laura.burghdorf@waynecap.org.
