Humane Society hosts open house LYONS - The Humane Society of Wayne County announces its annual Community Education Open House being held from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 7 at the shelter. The event will include food, games, family fun and humane education. There will be door prizes, raffles and silent auction baskets. There will be several educational speakers:
Mercy, the famous painting horse, will paint murals for sale with proceeds to benefit the shelter. Mercy and her owner, Denise Pullis, will be at the event all day. Cracker Box Palace is bringing some of its farm animals, and also attending will be Kritter Kris and her birds of prey, the Wayne County Animal Response Team, the Wayne County Large Animal Technical Rescue Team, the Wayne County Cruelty Investigators, Invisible Fence personnel, the Finger Lakes Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Webster Veterinary Supply with its pet identification tag machine. Kids Corner will include the duck pond, face painting and prizes. There will also be a used book sale, bake and flower sale and a silent auction. There will be a variety of wine baskets, gift baskets and specialty items. Attendees can sign up for their 2009 membership, register early for Mutt Strut 2009 and buy raffle tickets.
