Elks plan Flag Day ceremony

LYONS - The Lyons Elks Lodge No. 869 will conduct the annual Flag Day ceremony at 7 p.m. June 14 at the bandstand Central Village Park.

Exalted Ruler, Gary A. Rogers, together with other Lodge Officers, will lead the ceremony. Local Girl and Boy Scout troops will also participate, along with the Lyons High School Band.

This year, Alyssa Wlodarczyk and Brittany DeCola, selected winners of the Americanism Essay Contest sponsored by the Elks, will be guest speakers. They are students of the Lyons Middle School.

The public is invited to attend and observe the annual recognition of the country's flag.

Also the Lyons VFW and American Legion will conduct a flag retirement/burning ceremony. Anyone with old flags that wishes to have them properly disposed of, bring them to this ceremony.

In the event of inclement weather, the flag retirement/burning portion of the ceremony will not be performed. However, the Flag Day ceremony will be held at the same time across the street at the Lyons Elks Lodge.
