The following Southwestern Wayne County students have been honored or mentioned for achievement by their respective colleges or universities.
They are:

The following local residents were scheduled to complete their baccalaureate studies in May at the State University of New York College at Oswego: Janeen M. Petty, of Lyons, with a major in elementary education, cum laude; Korie J. Baker, of Marion, with a major in secondary education; Carlie A. Lochner, of Marion, with a major in elementary education, cum laude; Maria E. Aldaco, of Newark, with a major in public justice; Katie L. Santell, of Newark, with a major in public justice; Jacob D. Gardner, of Lyons, with a major in secondary education, cum laude; Colleen M. Bremer, of Newark, with a major in studio art; Matthew S. Santell, of Newark, with a major in zoology; Matthew C. Laird, of Newark, with a major in wellness management; Amanda J. Miller, of Lyons, with a major in wellness management, magna cum laude; Keegan Trunick, of Newark.
Students who graduate with honors are indicated by the traditional Latin phrases summa cum laude, with highest honor, grade averages of 3.8 to 4.0; magna cum laude, with great honor, grade averages of 3.6 to 3.79; and cum laude, with honor, grade averages of 3.30 to 3.59.

Kelsey Binggeli, of Newark, was one of 135 members of the class of 2009 at St. Andrews Presbyterian College. She received a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education during commencement exercises held May 9 on the college campus in Laurinburg, N.C. She also completed a minor in Spanish language. Binggeli is the daughter of Robert and Dale Binggeli, and the granddaughter of Robert and Joyce Binggeli and Charles and Betty Fiegl.

Amy Smith, of Newark, received a bachelor's degree in theatre arts from the State University of New York at New Paltz.

Cornell University announced that Jillian Allerton of Newark with a bachelor of science in environmental design and analysis was scheduled to be presented for graduation with the Class of 2009 during commencement ceremonies May 24 in Ithaca.

The following students are candidates for graduation from the State University of New York at Fredonia: From Macedon, Daniel R. Gorman, bachelor of science, business administration, marketing; Sarah M. Emert, master of arts, English. From Newark, William J. Beck, bachelor of arts, philosophy. From Palmyra, Adrienne I. Lanni, bachelor of arts, social studies, adolescence education. From Walworth, Julie A. Cicero, bachelor of science, communications, public relations; Timothy M. Cleary, bachelor of science, business administration, marketing.

Joshua Weis, son of Tom and Debbie Weis of Marion, graduated May 23 from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering technology.Weis studied at RIT's College of Applied Science and Technology.He is a 2005 graduate of Marion Junior Senior High School.

Jessica Lynn Schoonerman of Marion was awarded a bachelor of science degree in education degree May 16 at the 143rd commencement at the State University of New York at Geneseo. Schoonerman was one of approximately 1,100 undergraduate students to receive a bachelor's degree. She majored in childhood with special education and had a concentration in political science. Schoonerman is a 2005 graduate of Marion High School and is the daughter of Steve and Barb Schoonerman of Marion.

Cornell University announced that the following students graduated with the Class of 2009 during commencement ceremonies May 24 in Ithaca: Shannon Marie Smith of Macedon, with a Bachelor of Science in animal science; Chauncey Gordon Joyce of Newark, with a Bachelor of Science in applied economics and management; Jordan Alexander Cole of Ontario, with a Bachelor of Science in interagriculture and rural development.

Two local residents graduated with honors at commencement ceremonies May 16 at State University of New York College at Cortland. Anne L. Cegla of Walworth received a bachelor of arts degree, magna cum laude. Todd Anthony Piccola of Palmyra received a bachelor of science degree, cum laude.
