5K run supports disaster relief operations

Kimberly Law clocks in with a time of 19:39 seconds to place first in the female category at the fourth annual Market Alternatives Run For The Red 5K.

NEWARK - The fourth annual Market Alternatives Run For The Red 5K was held Saturday, June 13 in Newark. Over 100 runners completed the 3.1-mile course through the village.

Matthew Roberts, of Henrietta, was the overall winner of the event with a time of 17:33. Kimberly Law, of Newark, was the overall female winner with a time of 19:39.

Participants ranged in age from 73-year-old Dawn Wilcox, of North Rose, to 6-year-old McKinley Miller, of Newark.

Funds raised from the event will be used to support the local Wayne County Disaster Relief Fund. The fund is used to provide emergency food, clothing, shelter, medications and mental health counseling to hundreds of Wayne County residents each year who have been affected by fires, floods and other man-made and natural disasters.
