Art group takes photo journey across globe
art from around the world

SUBMITTED PHOTO Along with photographs, John Domm presented the many souvenirs he brought back from a recent trip to China.

WALWORTH - The Western Wayne Art Group welcomed John Domm, who spoke on his recent trips to China. Domm presented his photographs of China and discussed each location. The presentation was enhanced by recorded music performed by the Twelve Girls Band, who play traditional Chinese music and modern, Westernized music.

Domm explained that one of the most striking things to photograph in China is the stark differences between the old and new. For example, in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, large freight boats carrying modern goods to the West rely on the same waterways as smaller, older boats.

Domm explained that the most difficult thing about photographing in China is the same worldwide in tourist areas: there are many people there, and some people don't like their pictures taken. He also said that tourists in China are the targets of constant salespeople.

When asked about his best advice and tips for world-traveling photographs, Domm offered two bits of wisdom. First, be sure to take a wide-angle lens, whether you purchase one or rent one. Second, if you must take a picture from a bus or hotel room window, put the lens up to the glass to avoid bounce-back and guarantee great photos.

WWAG typically meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Walworth Town Hall. Guests are welcome.
