Winter lecture series continues with zinc gravemarkers NEWARK - The Newark-Arcadia Historical Society continues its winter lecture series at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14 at the museum at 120 High St. in Newark, when Don Hall presents: Zinc Gravemarkers: It Seemed Like a Good idea at the Time. Zinc gravemarkers were a Victorian phenomenon which found their way to American and Canadian cemeteries from coast to coast from 1874 to 1914. Halls talk, illustrated with slides, shows many examples and gives insights into the manufacturing process of zinc gravemarkers, a very American good idea which never really caught on. Hall, of Rochester, is a tour guide and trustee of Mt. Hope Cemetery. Admission is free. Copyright
