Empire Girls State program for high school juniors

Applications for the Empire Girls State program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, are now available at high school guidance offices.

The Empire Girls State program is open to any girl who is a junior in high school. It is not necessary to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary to apply for this program.

Local high schools forward applications along with girls' transcripts to local American Legion Auxiliary Units. A panel of members from local units then interview each girl, selecting a candidate for the program. Expenses for the program are paid by the Auxiliary unit that sponsors a girl. Empire Girls State is a week long program held at the State University of New York College at Brockport at the end of June. During this week, Girls State citizens build a government for a mythical 51st state, from the city level up. The culmination of the program is the election of state senators, who then have the opportunity to go to Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. Girls who are interested in this program should contact their high school guidance office for an application.
