Teams now forming for American Cancer Society's Relay For Life

CLYDE - Local residents gathered March 16 at the Clyde Grange to hear about the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event coming to Clyde in July.

Relay For Life is a unique volunteer-driven, community event that allows participants from all walks of life, including cancer survivors, families, friends, corporations, civic organizations, schools, religious groups and concerned community members to join together in the fight against cancer.

Relay For Life is an overnight celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance and take turns walking around a track relay style. At nightfall, participants light hundreds of luminaria candles around the track in a touching ceremony honoring cancer survivors, as well as paying tribute to those lost to the disease.

Sharon Rice of Clyde, the 2009 Chairperson for this Relay Event and the rest of the outstanding group of volunteers dedicated in the fight against cancer will greeted guests in Clyde, March 16.

Through Nance Rifanburg from the American Cancer Society, interested individuals learned how their participation in Relay For Life benefits American Cancer Society research, programs and services.

For more information about participation in Relay For Life, call Sharon Rice at 945-7900.
