Dollars for Scholars phon-a-thon planned

PALMYRA - Preparations are underway for the annual Palmyra-Macedon Dollars for Scholars phon-a-thon, which will be held from March 30 through 31.

Student volunteers from Palmyra-Macedon High School will call residents of the school district asking for donations to benefit Pal-Mac seniors, who plan to continue their education after graduation.

In June 2008, scholarships included under the Dollars for Scholars umbrella totaled $96,100, and were presented to 97 Pal-Mac seniors. The Palmyra-Macedon Chapter of Dollars for Scholars presented ten $1,500 scholarships funded directly by the community through the annual phon-a-thon. Since its establishment in 1988, the Pal-Mac Chapter has awarded over $858,855 in scholarship funds to 1,143 Pal- Mac students at graduation.

For more information, about Dollars for Scholars or the phon-a-thon, or if interested in establishing a memorial, civic or business-sponsored scholarship, call Joan DeCann in the counseling office at Pal-Mac High School at 597-3435.
