Newark girls bring home state gold

CONGRATULATIONS LADY REDS!

ALYSSA FENYN, flanked by Kira Lauer, pulls the trigger on the Newark fast break as the Lady Reds are in full running mode in the first half of the championship game Saturday night, working on a 38-22 halftime lead. Albertus Magnus climbed back into the game in the second half but in the end, Newark had a lead and kept it, winning the state crown 75-68.
NEWARK'S SPEED AND POWER were evident in the state semifinal when the Lady Reds destroyed a decent Floral Park squad, 53-37. Floral Park's Danielle Donohue is about to eat some floor as she tries to keep pace with a rapidly accelerating Alyssa Fenyn.

Walker led all scorers with 31 points, but Woolfolk was gold medal in the clutch, scoring 24 herself, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking two shots.

In the state chamionship game Saturday night, she has the ball, but is triple-teamed by Albertus Magnus players Kaitlyn Spicer, Theresa Miller (40) and Kerry Higgins. Shakista Woolfolk of Newark gets ready to join the fray.
