Newark captures first state title TROY - The Newark Reds varsity girls basketball team won their first state title, beating Albertus Magnus Saturday night 75 to 68. Alyssa Fenyn, named tournament MVP, fouled out with one minute 50 seconds left in the game, but still managed to score 29 points in the game, moving her to number 2 in the state Section V's all-time scoring list with 2,483 points. A true team effort, the other players stepped up to the plate to ensure Newark's victory. Shaiskta Woolfolk scored 24 points, Marissa Bunce 12, Heather Virts 4, Sarah Tanea 3, and Kira Lauer added 3 points to the win. Copyright
