From the supervisors desk I attended the Williamson Fire Company's annual banquet March 28. Congratulations to Jeff Zorn, who was awarded the 2008 Firefighter of the Year award and Desiree Bouwens, recognized as Auxiliary Member of the Year. I attended the East Williamson Fire Department's annual banquet April 7. Congratulations to Zach Gelina, who was awarded the Dick Dubois Memorial Softball MVP award and Mike Swarthout, who was awarded the Robert H. Dobie Memorial Fireman of the Year Award. I attended Cub Scout Pack No. 125's Blue and Gold Banquet March 29, at which Jagger Secor and Mason Prater crossed over to Boy Scouts. Congratulations to the new Boy Scouts. The fire departments and the Williamson Volunteer Ambulance Service suggest that residents ensure that their house numbers are visible from the road and located where they can be seen, when approached from either side. For those with long driveways, reflective numbers on both sides of a mailbox is one way to do this. Whatever can be done to make house numbers more visible would be appreciated. Williamson residents now have convenient access to financial assistance and grants for home repairs, by visiting the new PathStone office at the Town Complex. PathStone, formerly known as Rural Opportunities Inc., is a not-for-profit, regional community development and human service organization. PathStone offers assistance for low and moderate income families from a variety of federal, state and private sources. Project Manager Dee Frey reports there is still money available for assistance with heating and utility bills. For more information, call her at 589-8211 or e-mail dfrey@pathstone.org. Williamson was awarded a grant this year for $400,000 for housing rehabilitation, referred to as a HOME grant. This grant is an opportunity for those meeting income requirements to improve the condition of older single-family housing, upgrade energy systems, and reduce energy costs. So far four Williamson residents have received grants from this program. Applications are now available at the PathStone office in the Town Complex. The third annual Operation Clean Sweepis scheduled for Saturday, May 9, the Saturday prior to the Williamson Apple Blossom Festival. Operation Clean Sweep is jointly sponsored by the Williamson Business Improvement District and the Williamson Town Board. Last year approximately 50 people picked up litter, pulled weeds and helped clean up the Main Street business district area. To participate, go to King's Auto Service and Car Sales at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 9. Mike Orr, president of the Williamson Business Improvement District and proprietor of King's Auto Service and Car Sales, will be on hand to provide rakes, garbage bags and any other equipment needed. Refreshments will be provided. It would be helpful, but not necessary, to let me know if an individual or organization will be participating by e-mailing wmsonsupv@rochester.rr.com or calling my office at 589-2038. This is the 50th anniversary of the Williamson Apple Blossom Festival. President of the Apple Blossom Festival Committee, Randy Dibble, the committee members and many other individuals and organizations in town are working extra hard this year to make this year's festival very special.
