Organic gardening offered at Lyons Library

LYONS - Ruth Schutt, one of the master gardeners of Wayne County, will present a program on organic gardening 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 in the Community Room at the Lyons Public Library. Through the use of crop rotation, green manure, composting, biological pest control and mechanical cultivation to maintain soil productivity and control pests, organic gardeners will exclude or limit the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Many proponents of organic gardening believe it produces healthier produce and limits exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals.

This program is designed for starters, but experts will no doubt pick up some tips as well.

The program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

The library is located at 122 Broad St.: off-street parking is located in the back, which can be entered from Phelps Street.
