Wolcott Rotary announces May programs
WOLCOTT - The Wolcott Rotary Club is a service club that meets each Wednesday noon at the Wolcott Elks Lodge on W. Port Bay Road in Wolcott for lunch and a program. Interested business or professional people, active or retired, are welcome.
The following programs have been scheduled for May:
-
May 6 - Eileen Perkins will introduce Carol Ritter Wright. Wright retired five years ago from a 43 year career in journalism, 37 of those years spent with Rochester newspapers. Among her many awards is the Edward Willis Scripps award for her defense of the first amendment. She has also been a professional auctioneer for 19 years, donating her skills for schools, churches, charities and other non-profit groups.
-
May 13 - Voters in the Sodus Central School District have approved a $3.1 million dollar project to build a wind turbine on school property, on the hill behind Sodus High School. The single turbine, no smaller than 900 kW, is expected to result in a 60 to 70 percent savings to the district's electric bill. Superintendent of Schools, Susan Salvaggio and School Business Administrator Steve Moore will share the district's progress to date. Rotary Interact Club members from the North Rose-Wolcott high school will be in attendance.
-
May 20 - Rotarian Don Colvin, recently retired after serving 48 years and becoming the longest continuously serving public official in the state of New York, will speak.
-
May 27 - The April Rotary District 7120 assembly held in Waterloo Saturday, April 4 will be reviewed. Wolcott Rotarians who attended are Wolcott President Duane Van Gelder, Mary Augusta Boogaard, Neil Thompson, Walt Agnew and Ed Wheeler. A board meeting will follow the review.
