Wayne County fair queen and princess chosen
SUBMITTED PHOTO Kendall Ann Main, 18, a senior at the Newark High School was chosen as the 2009 Wayne County fair queen Friday, April 24 at Marion High School. Kendall competed with 16 other contestants between the ages of 15 and 18 for the crown. The daughter of Paul and Cindy Main of Newark, Kendall is involved in link crew, ski club, drama club, math team, marketing and publications, which involves the creation of the yearbook and croquet society through school. She works at Fashion Bug in Newark and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Kendall plans to attend Genesee Community College in the fall enrolling in their 2+2 program. Chosen as first runner up was Jillian Perry, 16, a junior at Marion Junior Senior High School. Perry is the daughter of Mike and Donna Perry of Marion. Second runner up went to Heather Dyer, 17, a junior at Palmyra-Macedon High School. She is the daughter of Jean Dyer Yost and Robert L. Yost of Palmyra and Rodney Dyer of St. Louis. Stephanie Pealo, 16, a sophomore at Marion Junior Senior High School, was chosen as third runner up. She is the daughter of Michael Pealo of Marion. Calley Shurgot, 14, a freshman at Marion Junior Senior High School, was chosen as the 2009 Wayne County fair princess. She competed with 17 other contestants between the ages of 12 and 14. She is the daughter of Larry and Robin Shurgot of Marion. Shurgot is a member of the Canal Town Snowmobile Club, Arabian Horse Association, school yearbook club and 4-H. She enjoys riding horses, playing soccer and running track. Chosen, as first runner up was Sarah Kois, 14, of Walworth. She is the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth Kois and is a freshman at Gananda High School. Second runner up went to 13-year-old Victoria (Tori) Mason, a seventh grader at Williamson Middle School. She is the daughter of Doug and Lorraine Mason of Williamson. Third runner up went to Emily Piazza, 11, of Williamson. Piazza is in the sixth grade at Williamson Middle School and is the daughter of John and Laura Piazza. Chosen by all the contestants as Miss Congeniality was 12-year-old Deanna Ingraham, who is in the seventh grade at Newark Middle School and the daughter of Kevin and Coral Ingraham of Newark. Ms Florida Beauties of America and HSBC Mortgage Corporation Assistant Vice President Amy Bell was the mistress of ceremonies for the pageant. The 2008 Wayne County Fair Queen Leah Paschke and 2008 Wayne County Fair Princess Courtney Hill, both of Williamson, were commentators. Past queens, princesses and members of courts were recognized as part of the 30th anniversary of the pageant. The queen, princess and courts will reign over the 154th Wayne County Fair from Aug. 10 through 15 in Palmyra. Pre-pageant activities included a welcome group photo session, pizza party and fun and games party. All contestants received training on interviewing, public speaking and modeling. Many local businesses donated gifts and gift certificates to the contestants and winners.
