Death Notices April - June 2001

Niedenfuhr, Peter - Peter S. Niedenfuhr, 62, of New Jersey, died June 29, 2001. He was born in Germany on September 4, 1939 and came to the United States in 1964. He died from pancreatic cancer at St. Mary Hospital in Hoboken, NJ. Peter was the husband of the former Linda DeRue, daughter of Isaac and Martha DeRue of Newark. He is survived by wife, Linda; stepson, Angel; and a grandson, Christian, all of New Jersey. He has a son and brother who live in Germany, and nieces and nephews in the U.S., Columbia and South America.

Kaupp, Norbett H. - Norbett Harold Kaupp died at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California on June 21, 2001 after a long illness. He was 64. A former resident of Newark, graduate of Newark High, he was a graduate of Clarkson College of Technology and Harvard University's Advance Management Development Program. Kaupp served in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Captain. He retired from the Xerox Corporation in 1991 serving as a Corporate Vice President of the Printing Systems Division Strategic Business Unit. He held 11 patents in Xerography and related design concepts. Norbett Kaupp was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Ruth Kaupp. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hines Kaupp, daughters, Felicia (Gene) Kosman of Atkinson, NH, Jennifer Hayday of Torrance, CA and Sarah (Kevin) Boyle of Redondo Beach, CA; brother, John (Michelle) Kaupp of Rochester; and three grandchildren.

Iddings, Kenneth - Kenneth E. Iddings, 69, of Newark died June 26, 2001 at his home. Mr. Iddings was born Nov. 4, 1931 in Phelps, to Ernest M. and Jessie Bement Iddings. He was a veteran of the Army having served in the Korean conflict. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery. Kenneth is survived by his brothers and sisters, Elaine (Gilbert) Ellis of Sodus, Virginia Babcock of Florida, Gary (Alice) Iddings of Newark, Clark (Donna) Iddings of Phelps, Bonnie (David) Opdyke of Cayuga; and several nieces and nephews.

Hall, Elwood - Elwood C. Hall, of Newark, died June 23, 2001. Elwood retired from Garlock, Inc. in 1970 after 29 years of service. He worked as a Chevron Preform Operator in the Sundries Department. Interment in the East Palmyra Cemetery. He was predeceased in 1992 by his wife, Mary. He is survived by his children, Evelyn (Gordon) Schrader of Newark, Doris (Ralph) Hamburg of Hornell, Lester (Gerry) Hall of Palmyra, Robert (Dale) Hall of Macedon, and Betty L. Hoad of Newark; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Marshall, Mary Sarah - Mary Sarah Marshall, 79, of Newark, died June 28, 2001 at Clifton Springs Nursing Home. She was born April 5, 1922 in Geneva, to Emmett and Anna Gannon Linehan. She was a nurse for 20 years at the Newark Medical Center and with Dr. Potter's office. She was also a longtime member of St. Michael's Church in Newark. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Geneva. She is survived by her sons, Elvey (Anne) Marshall of Leamington, Ontario, Canada; James (Lisa) Marshall of New Market, Ontario, Canada and Christopher (Betsey) Marshall of Rush; daughters, Kathryn (Michael) Saczkowski of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; Mary Lee (Josh) Barrett of Newark and Margaret (Stephen) Jantz of Webster; and 16 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Elvey; brothers, George and Robert Linehan; and sister, Anne 'Honey' Linehan.

Miller, Elma - Elma Marie Brooks Miller, 77, of Newark, formerly of Syracuse, died June 30, 2001 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. Elma was the daughter of Orin and Florence (Gary) Carpenter, born on May 9, 1924 in Galen. She grew up in Lyons then lived in Syracuse before moving back to Newark two years ago. Interment, South Lyons Cemetery. Elma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Richard VanDuyne of Newark; four grandchildren, Jeannette (Harold) Smith Jr., Julie (Ricky) Orsborne, Mary VanDuyne and Richard (Susan) VanDuyne Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nina Savage of Lyons and Ann Savage of Newark; many nieces and nephews.

Norton, Floyd - Floyd B. Norton, 87, of Sodus, died June 29, 2001 at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. Mr. Norton retired to Florida in 1971 after 40 years of being a funeral director and owner of Norton Furniture in Sodus. He was a life member of the Sodus Town Ambulance Corps, former Trustee, Elder, Financial Secretary and choir member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Sodus. He was past president of the Wayne County Funeral Directors, former Treasurer of the Sodus Chamber of Commerce, Past Lt. Governor of Kiwanis in Florida, 67-year member of the F&AM, Past Master and Secretary of Sodus Lodge #392 and Past District Deputy Grand Master of Wayne District F&AM. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy W. Norton; two sons, James B. (Barbara) of Sodus and John C. Sr. of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Norton was predeceased by his first wife, Marcia Buckman Norton.

VanParys, Dorothy - Dorothy (Laura) VanParys, 65, of Sodus Point and Naples, Florida, died June 30, 2001 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Harold (Ike) VanParys; children, Michael VanParys (Bill Beaman), Sara (Scott) Parsons, Matt VanParys, Gretchen VanParys, Lisa VanParys (Ella), John (Lee Ann) VanParys, Amy (Ron) Fogarty; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Susan Adsit, Pauline Derby, Mary Jean Lyke; nieces, nephews and great friends.

Lyons, Betty - Betty G. Lyons, 75, died June 19, 2001 in Rochester. Born, raised and married in Johnstown, NY, she leaves a legacy of loving family, good friends and acquaintances in Gloversville, Johnstown and Newark. Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Plattsburg. Surviving are son Robert (Deborah) Lyons of Newark; daughter Melanie (Richard) Chamberlin of Rochester; grandchildren, Kirsten and Travis Lyons, Darcy (Mike) Bernitt, Ainslie Chamberlin, and one great grandchild, Jared Bernitt; brother, Adrian (Claire) Gonyea; sister, Adrienne (Paul) Mooney; nieces and nephews.

Sweeney, Richard Sr. - Richard Sweeney, Sr., 77, of Macedon, died June 21, 2001. Richard was a WWII veteran and was retired from Xerox. Interment in Marion Cemetery. He was predeceased by wife, Pauline. He is survived by sons, Donald, and Richard Jr. (Judy); five daughters, Sharon (Richard) Felch, Barbara (George) Prindle, Marie (Robert) Turner, Donna Costigan, Patricia (Charles) Perrin; 28 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Oliver, Arthur, Robert and Dennis; and two sisters, Maude and Betty.

Facer, Lenora - Lenora P. Facer, 78, of Lyons, died June 24, 2001 at ViaHealth of Newark after an extended illness. Lenora was born March 22, 1923 in Marion to Abraham and Alta Russell Pieters. She was employed at Garlock's in Palmyra for 40 years in the accounting department. She was the co-founder of the Brittany Club of Upper New York and raised champion Brittany Spaniels for 50 years, including Highbrow's Red, a national field champion. Interment, South Lyons Cemetery. Surviving are two brothers, Robert (Marie) Pieters of Penfield, Richard (Marian) Pieters of Newark; sister, Virginia Geldorf of Palmyra; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Facer on June 5, 2001.

Price, Anna - Anna Mary Price, 99, of Newark, died June 25, 2001. She was born February 20, 1902 in Little Orleans, Maryland. She is survived by four daughters, Hope Austin of Ontario, Freda Kise of Arizona, Marlyn (Charles) Rouse of Sodus, Jean Gates of Newark; four sons, Kenneth (Doris) Norris of Lyons, George Price of Pennsylvania, Van (Jenny) Price of Lyons, Jack Price of Bloomfield; 36 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Luther in 1973 and by daughters, Edna Shipley in 1986 and Ruby Lesano in 1994.

Burgess, Howard - Howard 'Hap' Burgess, 88, of Port Gibson, died Saturday, June 16, 2001 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. 'Hap' spent most of his life living in Port Gibson and was a devoted member of the Port Gibson Volunteer Fire Department. He was proud of his leadership in bringing municipal water to the Port Gibson community. Newark residents remember his 35 years at Bloomer Brothers, and his active role in the Newark Elks Lodge. Interment in Port Gibson Cemetery. Hap was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Garlock Burgess, and son, Gary Burgess. He is survived by two sons, Daniel of Ocala, Florida and Ronald of Bozeman, Montana; sisters Mary Thompson and Kate Jones, both of Newark; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

DeVay, Lucille - Lucille (Grandin) DeVay, 81, of Macedon, died June 14, 2001. Lucille is survived by her husband of 55 years, William DeVay; daughters, Betty Jane Hocklander of Marion, and Sharon Ann Moore of Goshen, Indiana; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Doris (Richard) Parr of Palmyra; brothers, Carl Grandin of Macedon, and Harold Grandin of Ontario; nieces and nephews.

Bliss, Ronald - Ronald Bliss, 65, of Marion, died June 13, 2001. Ronald is survived by his wife of 42 years, Romaine; a daughter, Lynn (Brad) DeGelleke, of Marion; granddaughters, Trista and Sarena DeGelleke; a brother, Donald (Ann) Bliss, of Marion; a sister, Grace Purdy, of Newark.

Howell, Barry - Barry L. Howell, 55, of Sodus, died June 16, 2001. He was employed at Xerox Corporation for 22 years and Rochester War Memorial for 23 years. He served in the Army National Guard for 14 years. He is survived by his wife, Madeline, of Sodus; children, Donald and Jodie both of Sodus; granddaughter, Angelica of Sodus; brothers, Gale (Diane) of Ontario, Michael (Linda) of Sodus, Richard (Harriet) Shivik of Conyers, GA; sister, Nancy Thayer of Williamson. Predeceased by his father Lawrence Roswell Howell, mother, Evelyn Shivik and step-father Victor Shivik.

Hickey, Mary - Mary E. Hickey, 90, of Marion, died June 14, 2001 after a short illness. She was born in Watertown, on September 5, 1910. Mary was a beloved school teacher in the Marion School District from 1940-70. She moved to St. John's Meadows in Rochester January 1999. She was an active member at St. Gregory's Church for many years. Interment will be in Watertown. She is survived by friend and caretaker, Sister Anne Helene Brien, S.S.J.; many friends in Marion, Rochester and surrounding areas; the family of the Sisters of St. Joseph and many new found friends at St. John's Meadows.

Prober, Geraldine - Geraldine A. (Ressue) Prober, 85, of Shortsville and Williamson, died June 16, 2001. She is a retiree of Garlock, Inc. in Palmyra. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Ernest Prober; daughter, Diane Day of Palmyra; grandchildren, Lisa (Tim) Moon of Macedon; Kevin Day of CA; Sarah Day of Palmyra; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Vincent Leaderer of Rochester; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Ressue and sister, Marjorie Leaderer.

Bucknam, Hazel - Hazel L. (Smith) Bucknam, 99, of Palmyra, died June 15, 2001 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Interment, White Haven Cemetery. Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lorraine (Allan) Bartholomew; sons, Calvin (Joan) Bucknam and Eugene (Barbara) Bucknam; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Laurence E. Bucknam in 1970.

Klemann, Ruth - Ruth Lang Prentice Klemann, of Clifton Springs, died June 17, 2001 at the Fairport Baptist Home. Ruth's life was characterized by her abiding faith in God, deep compassion for her fellow man and unfailing love and guidance for her family. She retired from Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic after years of service and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Clifton Springs. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Clifton Springs. She was the widow of Frederick 'Jack' Klemann, who died in 1971. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Robert Prentice of Los Barriles, Mexico, Jacquelyn (Jon) Everdyke of Canandaigua, Janet (Gary) Hamburg of Beaver Falls, Thomas (Deborah) Klemann of Palmyra, Michael (Linda) Klemann of Newark, and Penny (Gregg) Goodman of Penfield; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her sister, Irma Cook of Canandaigua. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Lang.

Aplin, Minnie - Minnie S. Aplin, 85, died June 19, 2001 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Aplin was born March 9, 1916 in Newark and was a lifelong member of the Arcadia Refonned Church. For many years, Minnie was an executive secretary at Sarah Coventry Jewelry in Newark, retiring in 1981. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Aplin on July 12, 1989. Surviving are a niece, Esther Walker of Marion, and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. John (Leona) Sheets of Rochester, Mrs. Peter (Kathleen) Van Lare of Green Valley, Arizona and Mrs. Roy (Mary) Aplin of Palmyra.

Cambier, Marjorie - Marjorie E. Cambier, of East Palmyra/Marion, died June 5, 2001 in Palm Harbor, FL, where she retired in 1991. Interment, Sodus Rural Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard and a sister, Lillian. She is survived by her step-daughter, Carol DePorter and one granddaughter; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Marion Cambier; several nieces and nephews.

Koning, Peter Jr. - Peter Koning, Jr., 82, of Palmyra, died June 20, 2001. Interment at Palmyra Cemetery. Peter was predeceased by his sister Margaret DePoint of Marion. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; daughter, Barbara (James) Hicks of Newark; brother-in-law, Henry (Ruth) Devries of Nevada; nieces and nephews.

Freeman, Lizzie Mae - Lizzie Mae Freeman, 75, of Sodus, died June 19, 2001. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, F.D. Freeman; five children, John of Newark, Mary Ann and Raymond of Sodus, Elizabeth Freeman LaCapra of Orlando, FL, and Terry of Geneva; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Burton, Gertrude - Gertrude Wright Wolfe Burton, 100, of Lynchburg, Virginia, formerly of Newark, died June 5, 2001. Mrs. Burton was born the daughter of Frank and Charlotte Hoff Wright. She married Clayton Wolfe in 1926. Shortly thereafter, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where Clayton began his lifetime career with Monsanto Chemical. The Wolfes lived in St. Louis for nearly 30 years. Following Clayton's unexpected death in 1953, Gertrude returned to Newark to help with the care of her mother. She enjoyed golf, painting and traveling. In 1968 Gertrude married Percy Burton and moved to Lynchburg. She became involved in Lynchburg College, Garden Club of America, DAR, Colonial Dames and Boonsboro Country Club. She was a long-time Lynchburg College benefactor and among her interests were the dining facilities in the Percy N. Burton Student Center. She redecorated two special areas in the student center: the Burton Dining Room (1986) and the East Room (1987). In 1968 she was elected to the Lynchburg College National Advisory Council. In May 1984 she was awarded Honorary Life Overseer status. After Percy's death, Gertrude traveled with family members. She walked the Great Wall of China in 1987 and toured England and Ireland with family at age 91. Interment in in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by two nieces, Barbara Wright Weidmann of Macedon and Catherine Blackwell of Newark; two nephews, Richard W. Baker of Florida and H. Newton Baker of Oregon. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Baker, and brother, Hudson H. Wright.

Ellsworth, Gertrude - Gertrude M. Ellsworth, 84, of Macedon died June 7, 2001. Gertrude was a founding member of the Egypt Fire Department Auxiliary, a member of the Grange and had been a school bus driver for many years in the Palmyra-Macedon school district. She and her husband had operated a dairy farm for many years in Macedon Center. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Penfield. She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Diane (Frank) Gladstone and Jill (Bruce) Hausman; grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, Kyle and Daniel; sisters, Orlean 'Bibber' (Richard) Yantz and Violet Bennett; brother, Howard (Millie) Schultz; several nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends, Sissy and Barcy Smith. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband, Carlton.

Wheaton, Damon - Damon D. Wheaton, Jr. of Greece, died June 8 2001. He is survived by his wife, Onnalee P.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Elaine, Richard and Valerie; four grandchildren, David (Debra) Wheaton, Christine (Keith) Carson, Melissa Wheaton, and Richard (Amy) Wheaton; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Private Interment in White Haven Memorial Park.

Redder, Eugene - Eugene E. Redder, of Sodus, died suddenly on June 5, 2001. Eugene is survived by his wife, Juliana (Obine); sons, Brandon and Brian; daughter, Bethany; mother, Eleanor and sister, Sandra. He was predeceased by his father, Melvin E. Jr. in 1986 and by his sister, Norine Cottrell in 1989.

Brown, Lewis Jr. - Lewis Brown, Jr., 22, of Newark, died unexpectedly on June 10, 2001 in Newark. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. Lewis is survived by his mother, Brenda Brown of Newark; father, Lewis Brown, Sr. of Georgia; stepfather, Curtis Mosley of Newark; brother, Willie (Christine) Shorter of Geneva; grandmother, Pearlie Mae Allen of Newark; aunt, Katherine (Steve Holt) McMillon of Lyons; nephew, Hakeem Jamal Shorter of Geneva; cousins and friends.

Palmer, Jarrod - Jarrod K. Palmer, 22, of Macedon, died suddenly on June 12, 2001. Interment, East Newark Cemetery. Snyder, Robert - Robert B. Snyder, 83, of Newark, died June 3, 2001 at ViaHealth of Newark. He was born Dec. 12, 1917 in Waterloo, to the late Charles and Mary Seager Snyder. He had worked for C.H. Stuart Inc. in Newark, the federal and state Employment Services in Syracuse, and for many years was a partner in the Talent Search Placement Agency in Rochester, from which he retired 20 years ago. Bob was a Geneva High School grad and a 1942 Cornell University alumnus. He was a Captain in the Army during World War II, and is a past commander of Post #393 of the American Legion in Geneva. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church, and he volunteered at St. Michael School. Over the years, he was active in many of the programs of the Alex Eligh Community center, where he had also been a trustee. An avid golfer, he had been a member of the Newark Country Club for more than 50 years. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva. He is survived by Claire, his wife of 58 years; two sons, Robert A. (Sandra) Snyder of Phelps and Michael E. (Mary) Snyder of Phelps; two daughters, Julia (David Shulter) Snyder of Boston, Mass., and Patricia (Carlton) Timerson of Newark; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Clara (Thomas) McNicholas of Geneva and Catherine (Thomas) Herrington of Cortland; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his five siblings, Winfield, Clifford, and Paul Snyder, Marion Fisher and Dorothy Clark.

Doane, Marie - Marie E. Doane, 82, formerly of Wolcott, died June 2, 2001 in the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. Interment in North Wolcott Cemetery. Mrs. Doane was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 1993. She is survived by her son, James (Jackie) Doane of Erieville; daughters, Sharon (Edward) Sherwood of Kirkville, Helen (Canton) Tuper of Marion, Beverly (Richard) Hillman of Williamson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Emily Schram and Ruth (Junior) Hixson of Wolcott, Dorothy (Richard) Bastian of Newark, Shirley Avery of Bloomfield; five brothers, Howard (Marie) Minier of Wolcott, Jake (Phyllis) Minier and Robert (Shirley) Minier, all of Florida, Gordon (Ann) Minier of Hamburg, and Burton (Elaine) Minier of Sodus.

Guzman, Billie - Billie J. Guzman, 75, of Newark, died June 3, 2001 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Billie was born Feb. 25, 1926 in Kansas, to Thomas and Myrtle Boyd Lord. She was a service manager for 20 years at Phil Marvin Buick in Newark, and had worked on the desk at Goebert Auto Parts in Newark. She was a member of the Palmyra Moose Club, Marbletown Fire Department Auxiliary, the VFW Auxiliary of Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Juan; two sons, Richard Tyler of Canandaigua and Glenn Tyler of Newark; two daughters, Dale Casler of Newark and Shawanna (Roger) Ladd of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Francis Tyler in 1967; and father and mother-in-law, Clarence and Susan Tyler.

Facer, Ernest - Ernest W. Facer, 87, of Lyons, died on June 5, 2001 at home after an extended illness. Ernie was born December 29, 1913 in Lyons, to Garfield and Mary Dangler Facer. A lifetime area resident, Ernie was employed at Hallagan Furniture in Newark as an upholsterer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He raised champion Brittany Spaniels for more than 50 years, including Highbrow's Red, a national field champion. He was founder of the Brittany Club of upper New York, which he was past president and director. He also judged field trials on the east coast and in Canada. Interment will be in South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lenora; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Mary) Pieters of Penfield and Virginia Geldorf of Palmyra and Richard (Marian) Pieters of Newark; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Clarabel George; and brothers, Irvin and Harold Facer.

Jess, Nellie - Nellie M. Swan Jess, 91, formerly of Newark, died at the home of her daughter Nancy in Gilbert, Arizona on May 19, 2001. She was born August 8, 1909 in Mainesburg, PA, one of seven children of Edgar and Blanche (Fellows) Swan. She retired from Newark Developmental center in 1975. Interment in the Mesa City Cemetery in Arizona. Nellie is survived by five daughters: Mrs. William (Belva) Black of Farmington, Utah; Ms. Nancy Jess of Gilbert, Arizona; Mrs. David (Patricia) Fisher of Newark; Mrs. Donald (Bonnie) Hunt of Shinglehouse, PA; Mrs. John (Sarah) Hujik of Gilbert, Arizona; and a son Ronald D. Jess and wife Dolores of Dover, Delaware; brothers Edgar (Pete) Swan of Walworth, and Stuart Swan of Venice Center, NY. Survived by 24 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by two husbands Rolen D. Jess (1958) and George Bailey (1980), a grandson William Douglas Black, three sisters - Charlotte (Lottie) VanSteen, Marion Martin, Genevieve VanStean and a brother Lanson (Buster) Swan.

Albrecht, Richard - Richard 'Dick' Albrecht, 47, of Newark, died suddenly June 6, 2001 at ViaHealth of Wayne - Newark Campus. Dick was born the son of Stanley and Dorothy Hood Albrecht on April 28, 1954 in Rochester. He had worked on the assembly line at IEC in Newark. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing. Interment will be in the Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his father Stanley (Vera) Albrecht of Las Vegas; brother Donald (Diane) Albrecht of Lyons; sister Barb (Peter) Simonse of Newark; nieces Melissa and Jacqueline Perkins, Caitlin Simonse; nephew Benjamin Simonse; cousins and friends. Dick was predeceased by his mother Dorothy in 1981.

Blondell, Arthur - Arthur R. Blondell, 79, of Newark, died Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Arthur was born on November 1, 1921, in Newark on DeSmith Road, the son of Peter and Mary DePorter Blondell. He and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm on Ryder Road for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 82 F&AM and a charter member of the bowling team which started in 1946. He was an avid gardener and woodworker. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Verna Henkel Blondell; devoted father of Dianne (Alfred) Lindstrom, Duane (Connie) Blondell, Scott (Donna) Blondell and Todd (Patty) Blondell; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Betty) Blondell; sisters Leona Cox and Margaret Lagenor; brother-in-law Melvin (Dorothy) Henkel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Betts, George - George W. Betts, 64, of Colton Avenue, Newark, died June 5, 2001 at the DeMay Living Center. Mr. Betts was born in Syracuse on September 30, 1936, the son of Albert and Helen Wyman Betts. After 31 years of service, George retired in 1991 from the Newark Developmental Center where he served as a Supervising Director of a group home. George was a member of Park Presbyterian Church. In 1958, he enlisted for three years in the U.S. Army and had been stationed in Greenland for a year. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Jessmer, Anna - Anna C. Jessmer, 68, of Rose Garden Apartments, Newark, died June 5, 2001 at Monroe Community Hospital in Rochester. She is survived by four daughters, one sister, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Jessmer.

Frank, Richard - Richard E. Frank, 56, of Newark, died May 28, 2001. He had worked for Finger Lakes DDSO in the comptroller's office, for more than 24 years. He was a member of the Zion Fellowship Church in Canandaigua, Newark Elks Lodge 1249, New York State Umpires, the C.S.E.A. He was a member of the 6th Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam conflict. He was born January 4, 1945 in Lyons to Elmer and Dorthy (Brooks) Frank. They both died in 1947, and Richard was raised by Albert and Bertha (Temple) Frank. Richard is survived by his wife of 23 years, Yvonne Orlopp Frank; two sons, Chad (Dr. Catherine) of Florida and Shawn of Newark; two daughters, Kimberly (John) Rooze and Alani Frank of Newark; two grandchildren; three brothers, Jake, Albert and David of Newark; nieces and nephews; half-sisters, Sherry Yonker of Lyons, Juanita Cullinan, Janet Brandt and Joan Smith; half-brothers, Cliff DeCann and Robert Newville. He was predeceased by half-brother Maynard Newville.

Edwards, Ray - Ray T. 'Skip' Edwards, 73, of Marion died May 23, 2001. He was a 1946 graduate of Arnold High School and Thiel College (1950), both in Pennsylvania. He served in the US Navy. He had worked for Bausch & Lomb of Rochester and Redmond Plastics in Marion. Skip was born Sept. 23, 1927 in New Kensington, PA. Interment in Union Cemetery, PA. He is survived by an aunt, Mae Edwards Bilbie and several cousins in the New Kensington area.

McGuire, Lorna - Lorna T. (Dean) McGuire, 71, of Marion, died May 27, 2001. She was a Xerox retiree and a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church of Newark. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, James McGuire; daughters, Elaine (William) Bendschneider of Marion and Krista (Michael) Kerwin of Greece, NY; 11 grandchildren; brother, Gerald Dean of FL; sister, Carol Medders of FL; brother-in-law, Thomas McGuire of FL; sister-in-law, Marilyn Prindle of Rochester; nieces, nephews, and special friends, Tony and Carol Gomes of Massachusetts.

Rosen, Louise - Louise I. Rosen, 92, of Lyons and Newark Manor, died May 27, 2001. She is survived by her son, Ed (Fran) of Fairport; a step-daughter, Renee (William) Austin of FL; granddaughter, Christine (Steven) Andrews of Webster; grandson, Kurt (Jennifer) of Penfield; three great-grandchildren; sister, Josephine Gottfried of FL; nieces, nephews, many friends and employees of Newark Manor. She was predeceased in 1983 by her husband, Jack; predeceased by sister and brothers.

Perricelli, Mary Lea - Mary Lea (Mickey) Perricelli, of Aiken, South Carolina died March 28, 2001. Mickey was born October 17, 1938. Mickey is survived by her children, H.T. (Kathy) and William (Becky) Amagnoson, Michele (Dante Lo Presti), Vincent (Karen) and Frank Pericelli. She is survived by eight grandchildren; her brother, Rick McClellan and sisters, Kathleen (Bruce) Adams and Jane (Joe) Rogers; also dear friends and extended family. She was preseceased by her mother, father, son Nicky, daughter Cathy, and husband Michael Perricelli.

Pratt, Jean - Jean A. Pratt, 64, of Clifton Springs, died May 29, 2001 after a long illness. Jean was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Clifton Springs to Peter and Emily Donk DeWind. She was a graduate of Clifton Springs High School, and had worked at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Jean loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. Interment in River View Cemetery. She is survived by her two sons, Clark Pratt and Christopher (Elaine) Pratt, both of Fairport; daughter, Constance (Jeffery) Norman of Newark; six grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Conley of Clifton Springs, Beverly Day of Henrietta and Sandy (Vincent) Passamonte of Clifton Springs; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Robert, and sister Barbara.

Pulver, Richard - Richard L. Pulver, 59, of Denver, Colorado, formerly of Newark and Manchester, died May 7, 2001 in Denver. Richard was born Feb. 12, 1942 to Raymond G. and Arlene L. Pulver. He was a 1960 graduate of Newark High School and served four years in the Air Force. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery in Manchester. He is survived by his brother, Raymond C. (Nancy) of Newark; sisters, Donna Burgess and Darlene Kempf of Shortsville and Patricia (John) Coon of Clifton Springs; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Raymond, in 1963, and his mother, Arlene, in 1990.

Miller, Randall - Randall Carlton Miller II, 19, of Marion, died May 17, 2001 after a canoe accident on Canandaigua Lake. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, mentor, guitarist, artist, soccer player, writer. Randy was majoring in Graphic Arts at Finger Lakes Community College. Randy was born March 6, 1982, son of Randy and Wanda Jansen Miller; they survive him, as does his sister, Kari Miller. Craver, Alice Mae - Alice Mae Craver, 79, a Wayne County Nursing Home resident, formerly of Newark, died May 19, 2001. Alice was born March 13, 1922, the daughter of Harvey and Edith (Wilson) Smith. She worked at Garlocks until the birth of her twin daughters in 1946. She spent her remaining years as a housewife, caring for her children and grandchildren. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters: Jacqueline VanGorder, Joyce (Larry) Downey, Susan Farabell and Cheryl (John) Robson; son, Kenneth J. (June) Craver; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Nancy) Smith and Harvey Smith Jr.; and three sisters, Louise (Chet) Yonker, Jane (Bill) Melcher, and Phyllis (Vincent) Maslyn. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1990; brother, Lewis; and sister, Frances.

Polverino, Ernest - Ernest Polverino, 74, of Newark, died May 16, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospice in Rochester. He was a dental technologist and operated Nu-Ceramics Co. in Rochester for more than 30 years. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. Ernest was born May 31, 1926 in Napoli, Italy to Gennaro and Elisabetta Attanasio Polverino. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Florence Marcano Polverino of Newark; son, Gennaro Marc of Grand Rapids, MI; two sisters and one brother in Italy; several nieces and nephews.

Jamieson, Truman - Truman Arnold Jamieson, 80, Newark, died May 16, 2001 at Rochester General Hospital. Truman was born Nov. 22, 1920 to Robert and Carrie Staats Jamieson in Bradford, Ontario, Canada. He was a member of the Mohawk Tribe (Turtle Clan) and the St. Regis Reservation in Canada. Truman retired in 1983 from Eastman Kodak, where he worked as a chemical mixer at the Park. He was a member of the Newark VFW Post 2883, the American Legion of Phelps, and the Palmyra Moose Lodge. The Army flag flew at the funeral home, in honor of his service during WWII. Interment with military honors, at Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife, Irene Kilheeney Jamieson; daughters Diana Vowls of Utah, and Debbie Szobel of Avon; step-daughters Diane (Ray) VanLare of Marion, Irene (Dave) Ward of Palmyra, June Marie (Steve) Dailey of Farmington, and Amy Joy (Jerry) Ciceroni of Florida; 20 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Pratt, Louis - Louis L. Pratt, 77, of Palmyra, died May 15, 2001. Louis was born December 5, 1923 in Canandaigua to Sherman A. and Blanche Thomas Pratt. He was a graduate of Shortsville High School. Louis married the former Lois Smith on August 2, 1947 in the Western Presbyterian Church of Palmyra. Louis retired from the United State Air Force after 26 years of service, which included duty during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Air Force Air Medal for service over Germany during the Berlin Air Lift. Louis was a member of the Chicopee, Massachusetts Lodge of the F&A Masons, the Palmyra Moose Lodge, the Shortsville America Legion Post, and the Holiday Ramblers Travel Trailers Club, and he was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Interment, Palmyra Cemetery. Louis is survived by his wife, Lois Smith Pratt of Daansen Road, Palmyra and Davenport, Florida; daughter, Karen L. (Dave) Sanford of Clifton Springs; sons, Sherman A. Haitz, Robert - Robert James Haitz, 63, of Newark, died May 20, 2001 at Newark ViaHealth. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. Robert was born Aug. 22, 1937 in Rochester, the son of John and Bernice Attwood Haitz. He had lived in Palmyra and Newark, and worked in nursing homes in Florida. He is survived by his two sons, Robert Haitz, Jr. of Auburn and Charles (Brenda) of Port Byron; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Lombol of Rochester and Mary Haiti of Newark; two brothers, John of Rochester and Louis of Fairville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Mae Haitz, in 1991.

Kauber, Mildred - Mildred Kauber, 90, of Newark, formerly of Aurora and Niagara Falls, died May 21, 2001 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Kauber was born March 12, 1911 in Buffalo, to Henry and Mary Miller Beitz. She was a member of the United Ministry of Aurora, and of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Newark. Mrs. Kauber earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo. Years later, she returned to U.B. to earn a Masters of Library Science degree. She had worked at Moore Business Forms, the University of Buffalo Library's Poetry Collection and the Niagara Falls Public Library. She was a resident of Niagara Falls for many years, where she had served on the United Way Board of Directors. After her retirement, she moved to Aurora and was active on many church committees. In 1998, she moved to Newark to be near her daughter, the Rev. Barbara Kauber. Mildred is survived by her daughter, The Rev. Barbara Kauber of Newark; two sons, Peter (Donna Guinard) Kauber of Greensboro, NC and David Kauber of Aurora; grandson Christopher Kauber; three brothers, Arthur Beitz of Lockport, Charles Beitz of Williamsville, and Elmer Boltz of Cheektowaga; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George A. Kauber in 1985 and a brother, Herbert Beitz.

Mylacraine, Sandra - Sandra (Sperry) Mylacraine, 61, of Canandaigua, died May 22, 2001 at her home. Sandra owned Towpath Antiques in Palmyra, and recently the Bristol Hills Country Store in Bristol. She was past president of Bloomfield Rotary, Recipient of Paul Harris Fellow and Rotarian of the year 1995-96; past chairperson, town of Bristol assessment review board and member of the Bristol Historical Society. Interment in East Bloomfield Cemetery.She is survived by her husband, James (of Bristol); sons, Scott Lagona (Madison Heights, MI), David (Debra) Mylacraine (Macedon), Kevin (JoAnn) Mylacraine (San Antonio, TX), Robert (Cheryl) Mylacraine (Atlanta, GA) and daughter, Lynnette Laona (Florida); 11 grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; nieces, nephews and cousins in Washington.

Tellier, Sharon - Sharon 'Sharie' Tellier, 63, of Newark, died May 12, 2001 at her home. Mrs. Tellier was born Feb. 9, 1938 in Newark, to Lynn H. and Dorothy Burgess Waldorf. Sharie started working for Lincoln Rochester Bank in Newark while she was a junior in high school. She continued with the bank through its many name changes, and became a vice president and branch manager in the Newark Banks. She retired from Chase Manhattan in 1995, and The Community Bank in 1997. Sharie was a member of the First United Methodist Church. For many Years she served as treasurer of the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Edward; daughter, Bonnie (Gary) Jackson of Newark; sons, Patrick (Laurie) of Newark, and Carl (Stacia) of Fairport; three grandchildren, Christopher Jackson, Ryan and Joshua Tellier; her mother, Irene Waldorf of Newark; sisters, Lynne (Fritz) Ring of Memphis, TN and Anita (Michael) Ruffalo of Marietta, GA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lynn and Dorothy Waldorf.

Bixby, Florence - Florence Louise Bixby, 63, of Newark, died May 6, 2001 at Newark Via-Health. Florence was born in Binghamton, January 11, 1938 to Chester and Blanche Ostrander York. She was a waitress at Arteros Restaurant in Oswego and had worked at Montgomery Ward in Newark. She was a member of AVSO (American Veterans Support Organization) and the Moose Club of Palmyra and Oswego. She was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1957. She had lived with the Joe Cermak family in Newark. Interment, Tioga Cemetery in Oswego. She is survived by her companion of 18 years, Harold 'Squeaky' Carlson of Newark; six sons, Craig and Jeffery York of Oswego, Brian York of Apalachin, Mark York and Ronald and Todd Bixby of Newark; 2 daughters, Cheryl Hanbury and Donna York of Oswego; several grandchildren; sister, Emily (John) Elower of Oswego; nieces and nephews.

Piekunka, Regina - Regina G. Piekunka, 79, of Sodus, died May 16, 2001 at Blossom View Nursing Home. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husbands, Ralph Lowley and Joe Piekunka; parents, Jacob and Lottie VanSteen; sister, Betty; brothers, Raymond, Donald and Wayne. Chapman, Elinor - Elinor S. Chapman, 86, of Decker Road, who most recently lived at the Newark Manor Nursing Home, died Thursday, May 3, 2001. Elinor was born in the Town of Huron on August 29 1914, one of eleven children to Thaddeus and Frances Hardsock Shear. She was a bus driver for the Sodus Central School District for many years. Interment in Fairville Rural Cemetery. Surviving are her sons, Chester (Julie) Chapman of Spurn, James Armstrong of Virginia; daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Vastbinder of Marion, Lois Armstrong of North Syracuse; stepson, David (Verlin) Chapman of Virginia; step-daughter, Diane Benton of Nebraska; 34 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Chester Chapman, in 1997 and 10 siblings.

Belair, James - James A. Belair, 66, of Newark, died May 6, 2001 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. He was born Jan. 3, 1935 in Spencerport, to Philias and Marian Laroe Belair. He retired from Mobil Chemical as a foreman with 27 years of service. He was a Navy veteran serving aboard the USS Baltimore. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 286 of Newark. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeane French Belair; sons, Steven (Maureen) of Arizona and Rodney (Kelly) of Texas; three daughters, Michelle (John) McDonald, Karen Schutt and Joan (Craig) Seely, all of Newark; four sisters; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Addona, Helen - Helen F. Addona, 54, of Newark, died May 8, 2001 at ViaHealth Newark Campus. She was born July 19, 1946 in Geneva, to Joseph and Margaret McHale Lynch. She was a 1969 graduate of SUNY Brockport and earned her Master's degree in elementary education from SUNY Cortland in 1972. For 12 years, she had been teaching at the Roosevelt Children's Center in Newark. She previously taught at Newark Developmental Center, taught first grade at St. Michael School, and had substituted in the Newark School District. She was an avid jogger and race runner. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Helen is survived by James, her husband of 31 years, and four children: James Jr., Amy, Jeffrey (Madeline), and Matthew, all of Newark; her mother, Margaret Lynch of Geneva; brother, Richard Lynch of Penfield; her mother-in-law, Ada Addona of Waterloo; nieces and nephews.

Ruffalo, Samuel - Samuel R. Ruffalo, 81, of Newark, died May 8, 2001 at ViaHealth of Newark. He was born March 23, 1920 in Newark, toJoseph and Josephine Pizzirusso Ruffalo. Sam was a heavy equipment operator in road construction for Local 832 in Rochester, retiring in 1982. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. Sam is survived by his wife of 50 years, Louise Ticconi Ruffalo; son, Samuel (Lucinda) Jr., of Newark; daughters, Sandra (John) Hodgson of Newark and Tina Louise (Mike) Lefever of Palmyra; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Farrell of Newark; nieces and nephews.

Klahn, Minnie - Minnie Klahn, 89, of San Antonio, Texas and formerly of Newark, died May 5, 2001. Mrs. Klahn was the daughter of William Lyfus Holt and Lucinda Conrad Holt Montgomery, born June 6, 1911 in Odon, Indiana. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Newark. Mrs. Klahn retired from the Newark Developmental Center where she had worked before moving to Texas in the early 1970's. Interment, South Lyons Cemetery. She is survived by her sons, Dr. John (Mona) Klahn of Texas and Verlyn (Joyce) Klahn of Churchville; daughter, Janet Diliberto of North Carolina; granddaughter, Karen Reyes, whom she raised from childhood, of Rochester; numerous beloved grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Klahn was predeceased by her husband, Edward Klahn in 1975.

Bement, Robert - Robert Bement, 81, of Newark, died May 6, 2001. Robert was a member of the Newark VFW, and a member of the Third Armored Division of the Army, where he received a Purple Heart, a Silver Star and the Bronze Star. He is survived by his brothers, Walter (Virginia) of Newark, and Richard (Donna) of Hudson Falls; sisters, Geraldine (Griner) of Phelps, Dorothy (Phil) Povero of Geneva and Marion Bement of Phelps; several nieces, nephews and cousins. DeLuca, Clara - Clara Jean DeLuca, 71, of Newark, died April 27, 2001. Mrs. DeLuca was born to Ralph and Mary Molazzo Sperrazza on July 1, 1929 in Wyoming, PA. She found joy in helping others. She put her children above all else, providing and loving them unconditionally. Interment East Newark Cemetery. Klaver, Elva - Elva M. Klaver 78, of Marion, died April 25, 2000. Elva was a member of the Marion American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Elva was predeceased by her husband, Norman. She is survived by her sons, Roger (Pat) of Lyons, Floyd (Sue) of Palmyra, Eugene (Sue) of Newark; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Smith, Vincent - Vincent E. Smith, M.D., of Palmyra, died April 26, 2001 after a long illness. He attended Palmyra-Macedon Schools, graduating in 1953; studied pre-med at Providence College in Rhode Island, receiving a B.A. in biology in 1957. In 1961, he received his M.D. from NY Medical College in Manhattan. His internship was performed in Honolulu, HI. In 1968, he opened his office in Palmyra. He was former medical director of Newark Nursing Home and Elm Manor in Canandaigua. Interment in St. Anne's Cemetery.

VanScott, Edward - Edward J. VanScott, 85, of Shortsville, died April 22, 2001. Ed was a veteran of WWII and a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his children, Caryl (Larry) Pitzeruse, Karen (Terry) Leone, Martin VanScott, Fred VanScott, Mark (Donna) VanScott; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; siblings, Gladys Cialini, Elizabeth O'Brien, Myrtle Wosnick, Dorothy Spadvecchia, Shirley Hyland, Susan Diego, Neil VanScott, Nancy Gaffey, Margaret VanScott; nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by brother Henry VanScott.

VanKouwenberg, John - John J. VanKouwenberg, 85, of Williamson, died April 25, 2001 at his home in Largo, FL. He was a Garlock Inc., retiree. Field, Ruth - Ruth E. Field (Femouw), formerly of Newark, died in Rochester on April 29, 2001. She was a Sarah Coventry retiree. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerrit Femouw. She is survived by her husband, Clifton O. Field; son, William (Ann) Femouw of WV; daughter, Jane (Bill) Swanson of MI; three grandchildren.

Gillespie, Pauline - Pauline Gillespie, 85, of Newark, died April 30, 2001. Pauline was born October 15, 1915 to Deforest and Grace Coyle Gillespie, in Belfast, NY. She was a collector of Teddy bears, dolls and she also enjoyed flowers. Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Belfast. Pauline is survived by many friends.

Phillips, Edwin - Edwin Phillips, 79, of Newark, died May 2, 2001. He was born May 4, 1921 in Holley, to Edwin and Rosetta Philips. He worked with the Wayne County Highway Department for 24 years, retiring in 1982. Phillips was a member of the East Palmyra Fire Department. He served in the European Theater during World War II with the U.S. Army and is a member of the Palmyra Post VFW. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by a son, Edwin (Sue) Phillips, Jr.; two daughters, Linda (Joel) Hixson and Carol DeRoo, all of Newark; step-children, Linda (Jerry) Julius of Wolcott; Gail (Bill) Draper of Livonia, Becky (Harry) Hilbert of Webster, June (Bill) Brunswick of Williamson, and Walter (Mary) Cameron of Honeoye; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wives, Bertha in 1982 and Dorothy in 2000 and a son, Frederick in 1999.

Foster, Bertha - Bertha Washburn Foster, 74, of Sarasota, FL, died April 16, 2001. She was born March 25, 1927 in Taberg, NY. A graduate of the State University at Albany, she taught mathematics for 25 years, mostly in Newark and Canandaigua, where she retired in 1982. Since then, a winter resident of Sarasota, Bertha spent summers in Inlet in the Adirondack Mountains. An avid golfer, swimmer, bridge player, and practitioner of yoga, Bertha was a superb seamstress, especially of dolls and children's toys. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Richard S. Foster; daughter, Janet E. Birnham of Sarasota; son, Bradley J. Foster and his wife, Carol, of Fairport; two grandsons, Robert and Richard Donahoe; an older sister, and three younger brothers.

McEndree, Damon - Damon 'Duke' McEndree, 69 of Newark, died suddenly on April 18, 2001 at Via Health of Newark. Duke was born May 17, 1931 to Jesse and Etta Mae Howell McEndree in St. Clairsville, Ohio. He was the proprietor of D & R Garage on Route 88 in Newark. He also owned horses at the Finger Lakes Race Track. The Army flag at the funeral home flew in honor of his service during the Korean War. Duke is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Miller McEndree; daughters, Sue Anne Torres of Newark, Leslie Evans of Florida, Mary Lou McEndree, and Barbara 'Bunny' McEndree both of Georgia; grandson, Joshua Damon Torres; brother, Ralph McEndree of Maryland; sister, Mae and husband James McBride of Ohio; brother-in-law, Paul and Elaine Bullers of Phelps; nieces and nephews. Son David predeceased Duke in 1988.

Boynton, Dorothy - Dorothy Elizabeth Boynton, 83, of Newark, died April 19, 2001 at the DeMay Living Center. She was born November 17, 1917 in Attleboro, Massachusetts. She worked at Boynton Jewelry in Newark, where her husband was the proprietor. She was a member of Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. Mrs. Boynton is survived by her son, Thomas Boynton of Newark and his fiancee Karen Carulli; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and John Claudius of Canandaigua; granddaughter, Melissa (Steve) Dean; two great-granddaughters; special friends, Rhonda Finewood and Betty Volkner. Mrs. Boynton was predeceased by her husband George R. (Bob) Boynton on August 9, 1997.

DeMarree, Margaret - Margaret L. 'Marge' DeMarree, 72, of Williamson, died April 18, 2001. Mrs. DeMarree was a member of the Twig Association of Myers Community Hospital, Sodus and a charter member of the Williamson Volunteer Ambulance Service. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville. Mrs. DeMarree is survived by husband of 54 years, Donald DeMarree; son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Allison DeMarree of Williamson; three grandchildren; sisters, Thelma (Gerald) Weyneth of Newark, Dorothy Slocum of Phoenix, AZ. She was predeceased by her son, Billy.

Perrels, Hazel - Hazel L. Perrels, 91, of Leesburg, FL and Newark, died April 19, 2001 in Florida. She was born November 17, 1909 in Pulteney to Melvin and Mabel Stewart Stone. She was an LPN and was Executive Director of Wayne County Heart Assn. and American Lung Assn. Interment in Glenview Cemetery in Pulteney. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Perrels in 1970. Mrs. Perrels is survived by her sister, Doris 'Stoney' Stone of Newark.

Adriaansen, Elizabeth - Elizabeth C. Adriaansen, 93, of Marion, died April 20, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband, Irving; brother, Jacob VanKouwenberg; and sister, Josephine DeRue. Barbosa-Sanchez, Carmelo - Carmelo Barbosa-Sanchez, 52, of Lyons, died April 21, 2001. Carmelo was born July 17, 1948 in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Bernardino and Petra Sanchez Barbosa. He worked at G.T.F. Packaging in Macedon for 14 years, and had attended the Iglesia DeDios Church in Newark. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Susan Luckenbach; three brothers, Monserrate (Maria) Barbosa of Kissimmee, FL, Angel (Rosa) Ayala of Naguabo, Puerto Rico, and Ismael (Thelma) Matos of Los Angles, CA; mother/father-in-law, Richard and Jeannette Luckenbach of Sodus; brother/sister-in-law, Karl and Tammy Luckenbach of Sodus; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Antoineo.

DiSanto, Christina - Christina DiSanto, 95, of Lyons and Clyde died April 23, 2001 in the Wayne County Nursing Home. Christina was born February 5, 1906 in Chicago Heights, Illinois to Nicholas and Philomenia Angiolillo Petrucci. She was married to Peter M. DiSanto in St. John's Church in Clyde, on December 22, 1930. A member of St. John's Church and former member of Golden Agers of Lyons, Christina enjoyed sewing crafts, bowling and gardening. Interment in St John's Cemetery. Christina is survived by her sons, Nicholas (Beverly) DiSanto of Lyons, and Eugene (Ruth) DiSanto of Vista, CA; daughters, Geraldine (Richard) Kemp of Newark, Althea (John) Desmond of Fairport, and Carol (Ronald) Smith of West Henrietta; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predecceased by her husband, Peter M. Disanto, in 1946; brother, Michael Petrucci and sister, Patricia Nigro.

Rogers, Ardis - Ardis Jane Rogers, 66, of Inverness, Florida, died April 2, 2001 in Tampa. She was born in Newark on Oct. 1, 1934 to the late Clifford Browning and Neola (Cassada) Browning. She left Newark for Florida 26 years ago. She will be buried in Lyons beside her late husband, Ralph Rogers. Ardis was employed at the Newark Developmental Center; she was a member of Point of Woods Country Club of Inverness. She is survived by two sons, David Rogers of Webster and Owen Rogers of Canandaigua; daughters, Dawn Locke, Dorothy McKenna, Carol Fisher, Anna Catino, Linda Weindorf, all living out of town, and Patricia Doucette of Clifton Springs; 11 grandchildren; four great-granchildren; and brother, Robert Browning of Florida.

Allen, Ruth - Ruth Allen, 77, of Palmyra, died April 22, 2001. She is survived by sons, John Allen of North Carolina and Steve Allen of South Carolina; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Loretta Gal of Palmyra and Louellen Brockman of New Jersey. Ruth was predeceased by husband, John H. Allen, in 1981.

Hawver, Winifred - Winifred N. Hawver, 78, of Newark, died April 25, 2001. Winifred was born in Rochester on January 20, 1923, daughter of Harvey and Pearl Kelsey Hart. She was a librarian at the Newark Public Library for 10 years. She was an auxilian volunteer at the Newark-Wayne Hospital and helped in the Medical Library. She was a member of the Arcadia Historical Society, Wayne County Humane Society and the First Baptist Church of Newark. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Jeffery of Henrietta, Mitchell and Blair, of Newark; daughter, Joellen (Joe) Lubanski of Macedon; three grandchildren, Nathan, Christa and Joseph; sister, Joan Brockman of Lubbock, TX; sister-in-law, Ellen Hawver of Penfield; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Hawver in 1983.

She was retired from the Newark Central Schools, where she worked in the cafeteria. Minnie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Stevens, Edwin - Edwin A. Stevens, 79, of Marion, died April 16, 2001. He was the owner and operator of Stevens Funeral Home for 37 years. Kampffe, Frederick III and Michelena - Frederick A. Kampffe III, 64, of Huron, formerly of Palmyra, died April 12, 2001. His wife, Michelena A. Kaempffe, 65, died April 17, 2001. They were predeceased by a son, Eric. They are survived by their children: Frederick A. (Lisa) Kaempffe IV, Lucia Kaempffe, and Arthur (Patricia) Kaempffe; three grandchildren; his mother, Marie Louise Kaempffe and three sisters. Mickey is survived by five siblings; nieces and nephews.

Johnston, James - James R. Johnston, 55, of Sodus, died April 13, 2001. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Groveland. He is survived by his mother, Martha E. Johnston of Newark; daughters, Theresa (Jerry) Clarke, Carol L. Jones, Dawn R. Johnston, all of Nunda; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Colacino, Michael - Michael A. Colacino, 86, of South River Run Drive, Sebastian, FL, and formerly of Palmyra, died April 15, 2001 in Vero Beach, FL. He was born March 6, 1915 in Newark, to Tom and Mary Colacino of Tiriolo, Cantanzaro, Italy. He was in the grocery business for three decades, retiring from Colacino's Big M in 1967. He later became one of the top land developers in the area. Along with Joe VanScott and Dr. Anthony Iati, he constructed a shopping plaza in Clifton Springs. He developed a 30-home subdivision in Palmyra and owned land in Newark that became part of the Newark Heights project. He purchased three Jackson and Perkins farms and promoted the sale of thousands of evergreens. Other previous real estate holdings were the First Federal Savings & Loan Bank and the Palmyra Post Office. A lover of the outdoors, he served as a fishing guide on Seneca Lake for many years. He was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Theresa; by his brothers, Joseph and Anthony; and sisters, Angeline DeMarco, Anna DePolo, and Rose Lagana. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Wanda Nighbor Colacino; sons, James (Sandy) Colacino of Pleasantville, SC and John (Janet) Colacino of Palmyra; daughter, Mary Ann (James) Cocola of Geneva; step-daughter, Sandra Nighbor of Green Bay, WI. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Hilary and Melissa Colacino, Michelle Colacino, James and Anthony Cocola; a step-grandson, Christopher Nighbor; nieces and nephews.

Acquista, Nicholas - Nicholas S. Acquista, 22, of Pardee Smith Road, Newark, died April 10, 2001 at Newark ViaHealth. Nicholas was born September 9, 1978 in Canandaigua, the son of Jon and Carol Rogers Acquista. He attended Newark High School and was an avid skier, snowmobiler and wave runner. Nick loved animals. He is survived by his mother, Carol, of Newark and his father, Jon, of Geneva; his maternal grandmother, Jean (George) Ludwig of Fort Myers, FL; paternal grandmother Marlene (Richard) King of Geneva; paternal great-grandmother Pauline Truzo of Phelps; uncles and aunts, Joseph (Christine), Steve (Cindy), Chris (Christine) Acquista; his loyal companion Tyson-Dogs, and by many loving friends, including 'The A Team.' Nick was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Philip 'Tex' Rogers, and paternal grandfather, Angelo Acquista.

Cleason, Jacob - Jacob P. Cleason, 99, of Palmyra, died April 5, 2001. Interment is in Palmyra Cemetery. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence. He is survived by children, Lorraine (Robert) Healy, Donald Cleason, Joan (Calvin) Bucknam, David (Grace) Cleason; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Farman, Sharon - Sharon Gutschow Farman, R.N.M.N.P., 64, of Newark, died suddenly on April 6, 2001 at Via Health of Newark. Sharon was born April 14, 1936 in Lyons, to Harold and Iva Chamberlin Kreiss. She graduated from the University of the State of New York as a Registered Nurse Medical Nurse Practitioner; she was the fifth person to achieve this in New York State at that time. Sharon worked as a nurse for the Lyons Community Hospital, Newark Hospital for 20 years and at Newark Developmental Center for 12 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark. She was a member of the Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County, American Red Cross, Ombudsman Office of the Aging, VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Newark and Lyons, American Legion of Phelps and the Lyons Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her loving husband Floyd 'Ben' Farman; daughters, Debbie (James) Trombino of Syracuse and Mickey (David) Fitzgerald of Lyons; five grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Cottrell; sisters, Linda DeCola and Pat Macali; step-brothers, Art, Richie and Robbie Williams; nieces and nephews.

Lowley, Robert - Robert L. Lowley, 47, of Sodus died at Myers Via Health on April 5, 2001. Interment in Baptist Rural Cemetery. He was predeceased by his parents, Betty and Donald Lowley; brother Alfred and brother-in-law, Frank Farruggia. He is survived by two sisters, Joan Lowley and Patricia Farruggia both of Sodus; brother Mark (Diane) of Marion; two nieces, several cousins; close friends Randy (Marlene) Crandall of Sodus; co-workers at the Myers ViaHealth.

Adams, Albert - Albert Sidney Adams, 84 of Newark, died April 5, 2001 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Albert was born in Brighton to Albert and Ruth Adams on March 13, 1917. He and his wife Edith owned a dairy and crop farm on Decker Road. Mr. Adams enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, hunting and skiing. Interment at Resthaven Cemetery in Phelps. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 54 years, Edith Davis Adams; sons, Harold Adams, James Adams and David (Joni) Adams all of Newark; daughters, Linda (Allen) Krzywkowski of Newark and Suzanne Williams of PA.; nine grandchildren; sisters, Ruth DesCamp (a twin sister) of Phelps and Helen Peake of Waterloo; nieces and nephews.

Newcombe, Richard - Richard A. Newcombe, 54, of Newark died April 4, 2001 at Via Health Newark. Dick was born April 3, 1947 in Newark, to Dayton and Christine King Newcombe. He had worked for the Village of Newark Dept. of Public Works. Dick was a member of Newark Elks, Palmyra Moose Lodge and Marbletown Vol. Fire Dept. Interment in Riverview Cemetery in Phelps. Nellis, Doris - Doris E. Nellis, 88, of Phelps, died on April 7, 2001. Doris was born Oct. 25, 1912 in Lyons, the daughter of Philip and Catherine Brock and had lived in the Phelps area for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Oaks Corners Presbyterian Church and a member of Enterprise Grange of Oaks Corners. Interment in Lyons Rural Cemetery. Doris is survived by four daughters, Barbara (Gordon) Brennessel of Newark, Sharon (Stephen) Biletzky of Phelps, Catherine (Dale) Bassage of Penn Yan, and Carol Soucie of Seneca Falls; two sons, Gerald Nellis of Baltimore, Donald (Wilma) Nellis of Newark; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased in 1985 by her husband, Harold Nellis.

Nesbitt, Edith - Edith M. Nesbitt, of Newark, (formerly of Fairport), died April 7, 2001. She is survived by 15 children: Evelyn Batterby, Diane Kuhn, Sharon Nicodemus, Patricia Salazar, Juanita Harrington, Douglas, David, Raymond, Roger, Martin, James, Patrick, Keith, Mark, and Daniel Nesbitt; nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Lovejoy, Florence Zuber; and brother, Gerald Brown.

DeLyser, Lawrence - Lawrence DeLyser, 72, of Palmyra, died April 8, 2001. He owned and operated DeLyser's Restaurant for 45 years. He was a Korean War Veteran, member of the Newark VFW #2883, Palmyra Legion #120, Palmyra Moose Lodge and Newark Elks Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Laurie DeLyser; sister, Delores Dingman; brother, Roger (Toni) DeLyser; sister-in-law, Gail (Earl) Salo; brother-in-law, Robert Coe; nieces and nephews.

Alday, Marion - Marion A. Alday, 93, of Williamson, died April 10, 2001. Born in Mina, NY in 1907, Mr. Alday grew up on a dairy farm. After graduating from Hope College in Holland, MI in 1931, he worked as a teacher, school principal and superintendent. He was a fruit grower for many years in Williamson, and Town Justice for 21 years. Interment at Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville. He is survived by his wife, Alice Holt Alday of Cazenovia; daughter, Sue (Ed) Witt of Marion; son, James (Gretchen) Alday; one grandson; step-daughter, Linda (Merle) VanGee of Cazenovia; step-granddaughter, Christine (Jeff Towner) VanGee of Marion.
