Keane, Mary - Mary K. Keane, 69, of Clifton Springs, formerly of Newark, died unexpectedly December 30, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mary was born May 15, 1934, in Newark, daughter of John and Margaret LeFaivre Keane. For many years, she was a second-grade teacher in the Williamson Central School system, retiring in 1989. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by her sister, Ann Wileman of South Bristol, Maine; niece, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Russell, David - David N. Russell, 88, of Marion, died December 31, 2003. David was a graduate of Cornell University, class of 1938, and a World War II Army veteran. He was a retired vice president of the National Bank of Geneva, member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson, Pultneyville Masonic Lodge F&AM and Williamson American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Beulah Dietz Russell; sons, Frederick (Sharon) Russell of Fairport and James (Deborah) Russell of Newark; daughter, Sharon (Robert) Andrushko of Frederick, Md.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Donald (Isabel) Russell of Hot Springs, Arkansas; nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Marion Cemetery.

Laws, Wayne - Wayne M. Laws, 69, of Sodus, died December 29, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Wayne was predeceased by parents, Harvey and Lillian Laws, and a brother, Richard. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Mark) Brown of Walworth, Dawn Laws of Farmington; sons, Brian and Ryan Laws of Palmyra; sister, Betty Bauershmidt of Ontario, Margaret (Kookie) Mandez of Rochester, Nancy Zito of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Christman, Kandus - Kandus M. Christman, 14, of Williamson, died December 30, 2003. She is survived by her parents, William and Karen Christman of Williamson; sister, Kari and brother, William, Jr.; grandmother Lois Shove of Sodus; grandfather Pete Fetty of Sodus; aunts, uncles and cousins. Interment will be in the Sodus Rural Cemetery.

McCann, Kathleen - Kathleen A. Sweeny McCann, 58, of Clifton Springs, died unexpectedly on December 31, 2003 at home. Kathleen was born March 16, 1945, in New York, the daughter of Lloyd Francis and Maguerita Sweeny. She was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for Newark Ambulance Corps, enjoyed making crafts and spending time with family and friends. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, John Carpenter of Clifton Springs; sister, Patricia Youngs of Newburgh; brothers, Terrence Sweeny of Germany and Dennis Sweeny of Holden, MA; dear friends, Debbie Menzies and Lou Ann King; nieces, Kathleen MacRae of Montgomery, Kelly Youngs-Schmitt of Newburgh, Kristin Pelella of Tarpen Springs, FL, Kimberly Yozzo Shearer of Clintondale, and Janet Sweeny of Orlando, FL; nephew, Terrence Sweeny of Florida; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Padgett, Lason - Lason W. 'Pete' Padgett, 90, formerly of Newark, died December 30, 2003 at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, California. Pete was born in Owego, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for 30 years at the Bloomer Bros. box factory as an inspector. He then moved west where he worked in the correctional system in Arizona and California. He is survived by nieces and nephews: Dorothy (Paul) Priebe of Newark, Hazel (Joseph) Cermak of Newark; Charles (Nina) Swartwood, Elmira; Delmar (Frances) Padgett, Owego; Alice VanWinkle, Florida; Iva Mae (Frank) Austin, Florida; and two stepchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Velma and brothers and sisters.

Cornelius, Elizabeth - Elizabeth T. Cornelius, 88, of Sodus and of Charlottesville, VA, died December 29, 2003 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She had been a medical secretary and secretary for Sodus Central School District. She was a skilled farmer's wife (nee LaGasse), cook and mom. She served as a volunteer at Myers Hospital as a member of the TWIG's and was active in the First United Presbyterian Church of Sodus. She was predeceased by her husband, Marvin J. Cornelius; sisters, Maude Blankenberg and Caroline Tack; brothers, Leslie and John LaGasse. Survivors include her son, Richard M. Cornelius and wife Kathy of Charlottesville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren in Winchester, VA; her sister-in-law and husband, Maggie and Milton Ameele of Marion; several nieces and nephews, including Susie and Jim Ameele, their daughters, Katrina Van Hoover and Kristen Wetherall; Gerald and Yvonne Ameele, and their daughter Shelley Weeks; Paul Ameele, Chuck and Linda DePoint, and Marianne LaGasse. Marlene Hebert gave love and care to Elizabeth during the past several years.

Downey, Anna - Anna 'Anne' Downey, 83, of Newark, died December 29, 2003 at her home on West Sherman Avenue. Anne was born January 8, 1920 in Williamson, the daughter of Peter and Dinah Van Hanegan Rosier. She was affiliated with the Jehovah's Witnesses. Anne worked in the research department of Jackson & Perkins Nursery until the company moved from Newark. She then was a cook at the Newark Developmental Center until she retired. She is survived by Herbert, her beloved husband of 66 years; daughters Sharon (James) Prinzi of Newark, Linda (Bruce) VanEtten of Manchester, Beverly (Lawrence) Whelpton of Syracuse; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, her sister Sue Prutzman of Clifton Springs, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Sheldon Downey and Randall Downey, a brother Herbert Vandelyke, and a sister Jennie Bailey. Interment will be in the Fairville Cemetery.

Gavitt, William - William S. Gavitt Sr., 89, of Lyons, died December 28, 2003. He was born December 22, 1914 in Lyons, where he lived his entire life in Lyons. He graduated from Lyons Central School, then Cornell University in 1937. He worked for Lincoln Alliance Bank (Chase Lincoln) in Rochester on Monroe Ave., then moved to the Newark office. He met and married the former Marjorie E. DeHond of Newark, in January 1944. Bill joined the Army, trained with the 27th Division in 1943 at Camps White and Adain, Oregon. He went overseas in 1944. Bill started up his banking career in 1945 after returning from the service. He started working at the Lyons National Bank along side his father, Saxon B. Sr. and brother, Saxon B. Jr. in a career that spanned 42 years. Bill became President and CEO of Lyons National Bank in 1967 and with the board of directors saw the opening of the banks first branch on Route 31 in 1987. He retired in January 1988. He was a member and held offices in the Lyons Rotary Club, Wayne County Historical Society, Lyons Heritage Society, member of NYS Bankers Association, Independent Bankers Association, served on the board Federal Reserve Bank in Buffalo. He was a member of Wayne County Bankers Association, VFW and American Legion in Lyons. He was active with Meals on Wheels, served on the Board of Lyons Rural and Elmwood Cemetery Association. He retired in 1961 as a Major from NY Army National Guard; he served as Exact. Officer with 2nd Batallion. Bill and his wife Marge traveled extensively to Europe from 1960-1990. He and his Green Thumb produced beautiful flowers around their home. He is survived by his son, Bill (Cindy) Jr. of Phelps; daughter, Sallie (Steve) Holland of Hawthorne, FL; granddaughter Cheyenne of Phelps; grandsons Jason Holthus and John Holthus, both in Florida. He was predeceased by wife Marge in August 2001.

Palermo, Drew - Drew V. Palermo, 19, of Marion died unexpectedly on December 23, 2003. He was born May 11, 1984 and graduated from Marion High School. He is survived by his parents, Kenneth and Bettye Palermo and his sister, Courtney, all residing in Marion.

Cambier, Ralph - Ralph A. Cambier, 77, of Palmyra, died December 21, 2003. He is survived by Janet, his wife of 53 years; sons, Tom (Peggy) Cambier of Palmyra and Jeffery Cambier of Phelps; daughters, Christine Stockman of Palmyra, Cindy (Steve) Staley of Arizona and Charlotte (Jim) Rowley of California; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Marion Monje of Newark and Margaret (Paul) Preston of Liverpool.

Petitti, Samuel - Samuel J. Petitti, 70, of Victor and Lyons, died at home on December 24, 2003 after a long illness. Sam was born June 16, 1933 in Lyons, a son to the late Ignazio and Angeline Saggesse Petitti. He was a career officer in the Army, where he spent 38 years on active and reserve duty. He received a Bronze Star in the Korean Conflict, where he served in the 2nd Infantry Division. He received a Meritorious Service Medal before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Lyons VFW Post #5092. Surviving are Monica, his wife of 47 years; daughter Vicki Hartranft of Webster and son Mark Petitti of Clifton Springs; two grandchildren; sister, Pat (Jim) Marsa of Lyons; many nieces, nephews and friends. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons.

Leenhouts, Julia - Julia Harding Leenhouts, 88 of Newark, died December 26, 2003 at the Newark Hospital. Julia was born April 13, 1915 in the Town of Arcadia, to Jacob and Minnie (DeCan) DeCann. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Newark and was a member of the Newark Grange and senior citizen groups in Newark, Palmyra and Port Gibson. She volunteered for the Port Gibson Cheerful Workers and American Cancer Society, and she enjoyed playing cards, sewing and crocheting. She is survived by daughter Shirley (Ray) Henry of Newark; grandchildren Scott Henry of Albany and Christine (Christopher) Chance of SC; one great-granddaughter; sister Mabel Harding of Ovid; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1974 by her first husband LeRoy Harding; second husband Peter Leenhouts in 1991; son Ronald Harding in 1968. Interment will be at East Palmyra Cemetery.

Cornwell, Frederick - Frederick Phillip Cornwell of Newark died December 23, 2003. He is survived by his wife Doris; daughters Vicky, Linda and MaryBeth; two grandchildren; sister Betty Hillageer; nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial will be at East Palmyra Cemetery in the spring.

Quagliarello, Ralph - Ralph Quagliarello, 69, died December 26, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Ralph was born September 13, 1934 in Lyons, to Michael and Victoria Vigilone Quagliarello. He had been a member of the Newark Fire Department, the Newark Elks and Palmyra Moose Lodge. He is survived by his daughters Victoria Quagliarello of Cicero and Theresa (Chris) Takamura of Hawaii; former spouse and the mother of his children, Barbara Dyson-Arnitz; sisters Rosemary Welch of Newark and Sharon Caves of Clyde; one grandson, nieces and nephews. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, Clyde.

Bourne, Fred - Fred H. Bourne, 79, died December 25, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Fred was born in Manchester on July 27, 1924, to George and Anna Anthousen Bourne. He was a wax machine operator for over 30 years at Fold-Pak, retiring in 1984. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church where he had been an usher for many years. He served with the Army in India during World War II. He was a member of the Wayne County Motorcycle Club. He is survived by his stepdaughter Shirley (Nicola) Netti of Seneca Falls; three step-grandchildren - Kathy Moody, Maria Granger and Domenic Netti; a brother James (Florence) Bourne of Waterloo. He was predeceased by his wife Rose in 1996 and two brothers George and Niles Bourne. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Brown, Oliver - Oliver G. Brown, 77, died December 25, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Oliver was born September 29, 1926 in North Rose, son of Chester and Millie Humphty Brown. He retired in 1986 from the American Can Co. in Fairport. Oliver loved farming and raised hogs and sheep on his farm on Hogback Hill Road. For 28 years, he raised Christmas trees on the Brown Tree Farm at the same location. He had served with the Navy during the World War II. He is survived by his beloved daughter-in-law, caregiver and best friend, Ruth Brown of Palmyra; a daughter Marlene (Dan) Harnish of Palmyra, three grandchildren; extended family Fred and Ann VanCassele and Elizabeth Ocque; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1995 by his wife Helen, and by a son Barry. Interment will be in the East Palmyra Cemetery.

Malone, Kenneth - Kenneth C. Malone, 58, died December 27, 2003. He was a Vietnam war Navy Veteran. He is survived by his children, Michael Malone, Jeremy Malone, Cristina Malone, Melissa (Dwayne) Hilfiker, all of Ontario; three grandchildren; his mother, Lillian Malone, of Webster; sisters, Linda (Lewis Jr.) Green of TX, Deborah (Paul) Malone of Palmyra, Patrick (Jonett) Malone of Ontario, Daniel (Diane) Malone of Palmyra; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, LeRoy, and brother, Richard.

Weir, Weldon - Weldon W. Weir, Sr., 73, died December 26, 2003. He was a member of the American Legion in Marion and the Palmyra Moose Lodge #1420. He is survived by his long time companion, Dee Stillings of Marion; daughters, Loretta (David) Reeves of Walworth and Debra (Ed) Finnerty Jr. of Genesee, PA; one brother, three sisters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Farnsworth, Harold - Harold R. Farnsworth, 79, died December 25, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Harold was born September 4, 1924 in Perinton, to Theodore and Ethel Hallings Farnsworth. He and Cleone Pembroke were married July 9, 1949 in the Palmyra United Methodist Church. Harold was a retiree of Mobil Chemical in Macedon and an Army veteran, having served in Germany during WWII. The Army Flag flew in his honor at the funeral home. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6778. He was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as Neighborhood Commissioner in Palmyra. He enjoyed many activities with the Palmyra Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife Cleone; daughter, Lynda (Robert) Lonis of Williamson; sons, Nelson (Sonja) Farnsworth of Brighton and Mark (Sonia) Farnsworth of Newark; sister, Dorothy (Benson) Stewart of Newark; brother, Samuel Farnsworth of Port Gibson; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Graveside services with military honors will be held in the spring in Macedon Cemetery.

Mamroe, Frank - Frank L. W. Mamroe, 31, died December 23, 2003. Frank was born August 8, 1972, in Clifton Springs. He is survived by his son, Phoenix Tyler; Beth, the mother of his son; his father Wayne; his mother, Deborrah; his grandmother, Esther; sisters, brothers and good friends. Interment is in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Checcino, Catherine - Catherine M. Checcino, 92, of Lyons died December 29, 2003. She lived at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Catherine was born in Lyons, on October 24, 1911, a daughter to August and Bessie LaNasa Williams. She was a life long area resident and a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by her son, David, of Virginia; brothers, Anthony Williams of Lyons, and Francis Williams of Rochester; Aunt, Frances Heroux of New Jersey; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband Dominic, by a brother, John Williams, and sisters, Josephine Sollenne and Anna Smith. Interment will be in South Lyons Cemetery.

Price, Jessie - Jessie E. Price, 74, died December 27, 2003 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Jessie was born January 15, 1929 in Maryland, the daughter of Jacob and Mazie Smith Coonrod. She worked in the kitchens at the Normandy Inn and Cinelli's restaurants in Sodus. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ferrell of Newark and Carol (John) Aldrich of Mexico; two brothers, Dennis and James Coonrod of Winter Haven, FL; two sisters, Dorothy Norris of Sodus and Janet (Henry) Cushman of North Rose; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Rose Cemetery.

Stirpe, Albert Sr. - Albert A. Stirpe Sr., 75, formerly of Clyde, died December 26, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Canandaigua, following an extended illness. Albert was born February 23, 1928, son of Dominick and Mary Lisi Stirpe. He served in the Army Air Corps, being stationed in Germany as part of the Occupational Forces. On May 23, 1951, he married Anna Amantini, who predeceased him on June 10, 1999. He and Anna owned and operated Albert's Restaurant in Clyde for more than 26 years. More recently he worked as a custodian at the Clyde Elementary School. Albert was a member of the Clyde Chamber of Commerce, named the 1968 'Man of the Year.' He was past director and officer of the Clyde Industrial Development Corp., county and town director of the United Way, founding member of the Clyde Sports Boosters, member of the Brown-DiSanto American Legion Post #226 and a member of the Bud Hinman VFW Post #947. Albert had volunteered for more than 25 years with the American Red Cross blood drives in Clyde and was active with the Wayne County Veterans Affairs Office. He is survived by sons, Albert A. (Michele) Stirpe, Jr. of North Syracuse and Dino Stirpe of Pasadena, California; one granddaughter, Alexandra Stirpe of North Syracuse; three brothers, Anthony (Anna) Stirpe of Lyons, Michael (Leona) Stirpe of Clyde, and Peter (Donna) Stirpe of Lyons; four sisters, Jennie (Ralph) Garafalo of Waterloo, Louise (Daniel) Bertino of Waterloo, Anita Dagel of Rochester, and Mary (Angelo) Calabria of Webster; and by nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Nicholas Stirpe. Entombment in the Garden Crypts of St. John's Cemetery in Clyde.

Mowers, Elwood - Elwood O. Mowers, 91, of Seneca Castle, died December 27, 2003. Elwood was born December 16, 1912, in West Lyden, to Arthur and Sadie Orman Mowers. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union 832, working in construction until he retired in 1974. He married Helen Skuse in 1938, raised four children and lived in Seneca Castle for 60 years. He was a member of the Grange for 74 years, an active member of Garoga Sincerity Lodge 200 F&AM, the Royal Garoga Chapter Order of the Eastern Star; and the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Janet (David) Whaley of Tennessee, Barbara Mattoon of Phelps, and Mary (John) Sherman of Seneca Castle; a son, David (Kathleen) Mowers of Phelps; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Harold (Carolyn) Willson of Clifton Springs. He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Helen; a brother, Ray Mowers; a sister, Lydia Willson; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Mattoon; and a son-in-law, Charles Mattoon. Interment is in Resthaven Cemetery in Phelps.

McCormick, Winifred - Winifred A. McCormick, 77, of Clifton Springs, died December 28, 2003. She was predeceased by a son, John, and three brothers. She is survived by her husband, Donald M. McCormick; a son, Timothy of Clifton Springs; three daughters, Donna and Kathleen McCormick of Clifton Springs, and Patricia (Chris) Heivly of Chicago, IL; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. She was a registered nurse at Wayne County Public Health, and a member of St. Dominic Church.

O'Neil, Norman - Norman F. O'Neil, 70, of Williamson, died December 28, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Betty Augustine O'Neil; six children, Robin (Russ) Cheatham, Mark (Lisa), Kevin (Kathy), Craig (Kim), Tim (Tammy) and Steve (Alisha); 14 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister; two brothers; several nieces and nephews.

Lent, Julie - Julie A. Lent, 51, of Marion, died December 28, 2003. She was predeceased by her father, Sonny; sister Jerilyn; son, Jamie. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim of Marion; mother, Dorothy Forkey; step-father, Mike Forkey both of Marion; daughters, Nikki (Paul) Naumann of Long Island, Jacqie Lent (fiancee Ted) of Marion; sons, Larry Van Cassele of NYC, Jeffery Lent of Marion, Nathan Lent of Fort Bragg, NC; brothers, Daniel (Carol) White of Palmyra, Steve (Sharon Smith) White of Palmyra; sisters, Jackie Herr of Murphy, NC, Joy and Chuck Baker of Kansas, Jenny Boile of FL; one grandson, Collin Lent.

Schindler, Doris - Doris LaDuca Schindler, of Ashton Place, formerly of Newark, died December 29, 2003 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Friends may call tomorrow (Jan. 3) from 2 to 4, with funeral service at 4 p.m., at the Fuller Funeral Home, 190 Buffalo St. in Canandaigua. Doris was the wife of the late Edmund Schindler. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newark. She was a loving aunt, great aunt and friend. She is survived by nieces and nephew, Kathleen Streber, Robert LaDuca and Cynthia LaDuca Gibaud, all of Rochester; six great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends Jeanne Stein and Linda Pentycofe.

Beritela, Frederick - Frederick F. Beritela, 76, of Newark, died December 15, 2003 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Fred was born June 4, 1927, in Rochester, to Samuel and Lena Ferro Beritela. He retired from Bausch & Lomb as a computer systems analyst. He was a tax preparer for the H&R Block Tax Service. He was a member of Newarks Elks Lodge #1249, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler and had served various offices in the lodge, including treasurer for seven years. He served in the Navy and was a member of New Breed Motor Cycle Club of Rochester. He is survived by his wife, Clara Deserio Beritela; a son, the Rev. Gerard Beritela of Syracuse; a daughter, Manette Beritela of Geneva; a brother, Carl Beritela of Baltimore, MD; and nieces and nephews. Interment in St. Ann's Cemetery in Hornell.

Storrs, Charles - Charles Edward Storrs III, 76, of Newark, died December 20, 2003 at DeMay Living Center. Charles was born March 25, 1927 in Henderson, son of Charles and Flora Storrs. He retired in 1987 from GTS Corp. in Macedon. The Navy flag flew at the funeral home, in honor of his military service in WWII. He will be missed by Alta LaMay Storrs, his wife of 47 years; sons Charles (Kristine) Storrs IV of Newark and Joseph (Jackie) Storrs of Butler; daughters Sherry (Reg) Brewer of South Carolina, Jean (Leo) Gorden of Maine; Terry (Modesto) Rodriguez and June (John) Sanders both of Newark; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers Harold of Conesus and William Storrs of Canandaigua; sister Evelyn (Art) Keenan of Williamson; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Walt Hewitt in 1972; grandson Jimmer; brother Ervin Storrs, and sister Marion Thompson. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Martin, Wayne - H. Wayne Martin, 64, of Swansboro, NC, died December 17, 2003 in Morehead City, NC. He was formerly of Newark. Wayne is survived by his wife Sylvia Williams Martin, daughter, Kelly A. Allebach of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sons, James R. (Sue) Martin, Palm Beach, FL and Timothy J. (Mary) Martin, Ocoee, FL; two stepsons, Bruce W. Norris of Newark, and Allan L. Norris of Nashville, TN; stepdaughter, Kimberly R. Milonas, Mary - Mary Ellis Burt Milonas, 67, of Lyons, died December 19, 2003 at her home. Mary was born August 22, 1936, in Lyons, daughter of Laverne and Anna Yaskow Burt. She is survived by two daughters, Adrienne Morey of Phoenix, Arizona and Valerie Milonas (Steven) White of Greece; a grandson, Adam Morey; two brothers, Robert Burt of Lyons and Richard (Helen) Burt of Kent; sister, Phyllis (Chuck) Hamelinck of Newark; and five nieces. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Valerio.

O'Leary, Carolyn - Carolyn E. O'Leary, 92, of Sodus/Buffalo, died December 19, 2003 in the Blossom View Nursing Home. She is survived by her niece, Ann (Watson) Martz of Ontario; nephew Ronald (Linda) Furber of Sodus; several other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard, in 2000. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Lagree, Richard - Richard T. Lagree, 55, of Palmyra, died December 19, 2003. He was a Vietnam war veteran, serving on the USS Ranger (CVA-61). He is survived by his sister, Maryann (Albert) Corter; brothers, Robert (Linda) Lagree, Lawrence (Sandy) Lagree; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Werner, Helen - Helen R. Werner, 86, of North Rose, died December 21, 2003 at Newark Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Werner Sr. in 2001 and brother, Frank Sass Jr. She is survived by her son, John J. Fisher, Elliott - Elliott Fisher, Sr., 85, died December 23, 2003 at Wayne County Nursing Home, Lyons. Elliott was born on October 21, 1918 in Cato, son of the late Merwin and Gertrude Wright Fisher. He lived in the Wolcott area before moving to the County Home. He was retired from Xerox Inc. of Webster. Juffs, Doris - Doris E. Juffs, 95, of Newark died December 12, 2003 at Rochester General Hospital. Doris was born July 12, 1908 in Tyre, daughter of William and Etta Babcock Lawrence. After high school, she worked for General Electric of Clyde as a welder. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark, the Newark Grange and the Arcadia Senior Citizens. She enjoyed collecting antique dolls, making dolls and sewing. She had a green thumb, with many plants in her home and a beautiful rose garden in her yard. She and her late husband traveled the world over, visiting Egypt and the West Nile and many other places. She is survived by her son Clarence Juffs, Jr. of Holley; daughters Sherry Juffs of Newark and Bonnie (Donald) LaGas of Savannah; grandchildren Darcy (Dave) Greco, Tami (Mark) Mundy and Michelle (David) Donk; eight great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence Juffs in 1988, daughter Barbara Ann Lawrence in 1937, and sister Hazel Lawrence in 2002. Interment in the Rose Cemetery.

Austin, Ronald - Ronald Holley Austin, 60, died in Santa Cruz, CA, on December 14, 2003. A native of Newark, he lived in Santa Cruz for 20 years. His interests included art, wood carving, and model ship building. Ronald worked in quality assurance for various companies in the Silicon Valley. Ronald was born on September 6, 1943, the son of the late Isaac and Lillian Austin and grew up in the family home at 208 Peirson Avenue. He graduated in 1961 from Newark High School, where he excelled in art. He attended Rochester Institute of Technology and worked for Xerox Corp. in Webster until 1969 when he moved to California. In 1963, he married his former wife, Helen Ennis of Lyons, New York who passed away in 1987. While growing up in Newark, Ron was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Lora Lee (Bill) Chapman, of Scotts Valley; granddaughter Coral Grayson; sister Betty Austin of Newark; and aunts, Jennie Schwartz of Port Gibson, and Hazel Swartz of Newark.

Decker, Helen - Helen Irene Decker, 83, of Newark, died December 16, 2003. Helen was born January 24, 1920 in Lewisburg, PA to Harry and Anna Dunkle Renner. She was a graduate of Phelps High School, member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and she loved animals. She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Russell) Porter of Fairport; grandson Matthew Porter; nieces and nephews; a special friend Dorothy Bartels. She was predeceased by her husband Willard Decker in 1998; brother Elwood Renner; sisters Ruth King and Edna VandenBussche. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Gilpatrick, Patricia - Patricia A. Gilpatrick, 79, of Lexington and Belmont, Massachusetts, died December 16, 2003 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. Patricia was born May 10, 1924 in Concord, Massachusetts, to Frank J. and Mary Mansfield Gower. She was a graduate of Concord High School. She is survivied her husband Arthur M. Gilpatrick; daughter Elaine (James) Burns of Newark; son Paul Gilpatrick of Boston; brother William (Claire) Gower of Concord; eight grandchildren: Theresa (James) Demer of Watertown, Maria (Mark) Beisheim of Rochester, Kate Burns of Rochester; Thomas (Tonya) Burns, James 3rd, John, Michael and Joseph Burns, all of Newark; six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary and Joan, and a nephew, Jay Sullivan. Interment will be at East Newark Cemetery.

Carr, Richard - Richard A. 'Dixon' Carr, 72, died Monday, December 15, 2003, at his Newark home. Richard was born April 18, 1931 in Clyde, son of Joseph and Jean Benson Carr. In 1996, he retired from Kodak. Previously, he had been a production manager with Kodak's Ultralife Batteries in Newark. Dixon served with the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post #2883, VFW and the Newark Elks Lodge #1249. He enjoyed playing golf. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by Rita, his wife of 47 years; five sons: Patrick (Julie) of Clifton Springs, David (Lisa) of Marion, Richard (Christine) of Newark, Martin (Dale) of Palmyra, and Joseph of Newark; seven grandchildren; 11 brothers and sisters: Mary Wadelle of Tonawanda, Joseph (Joyce) Carr of Newark, Beverly (Don) VanHoover of Newark, Barbara (Edward) Ros'a of Oregon, John (Baarb) Carr of Waterloo, Charlotte (Thomas) Damick of Newark, Robert (Rita) Carr of Oregon, Donald (Lois) Carr of Oregon, Margaret (Norman) Percy of Florida, Timothy Carr of Newark and Charles Carr of Oregon and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Katherine (Pete) Pellicano.

Provoost, Charles - Charles Francis Provoost, 87, of Newark died peacefully December 14, 2003 with his family by his side. Charles was born September 26, 1916 in Phelps, to Jacob and Louise Provoost. He retired from Abram Cleason Co. in Palmyra, for which he was a truck driver. He is survived by his sons Francis (Shelly) of Newark, Gordon (Carol) of East Palmyra, James (Carol) all of Newark; daughter Donna (Jim) Fisher of Ontario; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Bessie in 1986, and by two brothers and two sisters. Burial will be in the spring at East Palmyra Cemetery.

Gridley, Chester - Chester M. Gridley, 91, of Phelps, died December 12, 2003 at Geneva General Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Helen Rees Gridley; children, Gary (Cathyjo) Gridley of Shortsville, Cynthia (Paul) Thompson of Atlanta, GA, Debbie (Bill) Rockefeller of Phelps, Chet (Debbie) Gridley of Seneca Castle, and Eileen (Kevin) Esparza of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Greta Leader. Interment will be in Melvin Hill Cemetery.

Krueger, William - William A. Krueger, 59, of Hamburg, formerly of Newark/Lyons, died December 13, 2003 at the South Buffalo Mercy Hospital. William was born March 10, 1944, in Lyons, the son of Walter and Kathryn Haidley Krueger. He had been a training manager and was the store manager of the Payless Shoe Store and a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Erie County. Before transferring from Newark in 1986, Bill managed Cole's Department Store and the Payless Gallenkamp Shoe Store in the Newark Plaza. He was a member of the Newark Jaycees and a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lyons. Interment will be in South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Michael (Kathryn) of Farmington and Matthew of Depew; two grandsons; his brother, Walter (Carm) of Newark; and two nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Kathryn Krueger Strobel.

Pulver, Dr. Donald - Dr. Donald W. Pulver Sr., 91, who served the Phelps area for 37 years, died December 13, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. He was born in 1912, the youngest son of Irwin and Anna Pulver. He graduated from Cornell Veterinary School in 1935. In 1939 he married Doris M. Doolittle and established his large and small animal veterinary practice in Phelps. He retired in 1976. Dr. Pulver was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Phelps Rotary Club and the Garoga Sincerity F&AM Lodge 200. He is survived by his children, Dr. Robert I. (Joan) Pulver of Penfield, William E. (Patricia) Pulver of Irondequoit, Dr. Donald W. Jr. (Robin) Pulver of Pittsford and Carolyn A. (Brian) Burke of Webster; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Doris. Private interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.

Voit, Elsie - Elsie R. Voit, 87, formerly of Newark, died December 16, 2003 at the Thompson Continuing Care Center. Elsie was born February 11, 1916 in Gorham, to the late Adam and Jennie Reifsteck. She was the bookkeeper for her late husband's company, G&N Trucking of Newark, and had kept books for the former Boyce Motor Lines from 1967 until her retirement in 1982. Her husband Conrad Voit died December 21, 1966. She is survived by her daughter Elaine (Wayne) Sampson of Prescott, AZ; her sons Richard Voit of Las Vegas, and Steven (Virginia) Voit of Canandaigua; seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings Leo, Earl and Irene Reifsteck. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Lyon, Verona - Verona K. Lyon, 88, of Lyon Road, Marion, died December 11, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Verona was born May 27, 1915 in Williamson to John and Josephine LeRoy Kussie. She graduated in 1932 from Williamson High School. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed quilting, sewing and playing euchre. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Marion; the American Legion Auxiliary in Marion; and Palmyra Kings Daughters. She is survived by son David (Sylvia) Lyon of Marion; daughter Marcia Lyon of NC; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1991 by her husband C. Roy Lyon. Burial in the spring at East Palmyra Cemetery.

Daniels, Peter - Peter Daniels, 79, of Newark, died December 11, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Peter was born July 11, 1924 in Syracuse, to Andrew and Ella Gerla Daniels. He loved sports, baseball and fishing. Peter will be missed by his sister Mary Daniels of Syracuse; nephew Gary (Joann) Daniels; niece Nancy Kelly; staff and friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO. McGinnis, Helen - Helen Marie McGinnis, 86, of Newark, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery. Helen was born February 15, 1917 in Newark, daughter of Peter and Marie Burns McGinnis. Helen was a payroll clerk for C.H. Stuart until her retirement in 1981. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Helen is survived by cousins and dear friends.

Crowder, Delma - Delma J. 'Joe' Crowder, 68, of Marion, died December 15, 2003. He is survived by his daughters, Sherrie Crowder of Maryland, Julie (Steven) Street of Rochester; a brother, Michael (Nancy) Crowder of West Virginia; sisters, Jean (Stanley) Porterfield of Walworth; Erlyn Richard of Ontario; Linda Bell of West Virginia; two grandsons, special friend Pam Lauzon of Palmyra, several nieces and nephews.

Hill, Ralph - Ralph W. 'Junior' Hill, 76, of Marion, died December 14, 2003. He was predeceased by his wife Virginia M., sister, Margaret and brother James. Ralph is survived by his children, Lucille L'Amoureux of Canada, Jacalyn O'Loughlin of Canandaigua, Dale (Carol) of Farmington; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Sue) of Corning, Charles of Rochester, Thomas (Margaret) of Marion, and Jerry of Rochester; sister, Betty Majchrzak of Rochester; several nieces and nephews; and family friend, Butch Cronk. Emmel, Francis - Francis G. Emmel, 87, formerly of Newark, died December 16, 2003 at the F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Francis was born June 18, 1916 in Newark to Frank and Emma Garvey Emmel. He worked for Wright Components in Clifton Springs. Mr. Emmel is survived by Elizabeth, his beloved wife of 66 years; son James F. Emmel of Cary, NC; and two grandchildren. A service will be held at Newark Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Chappell, Derrick - Derrick M. Chappell, 19, of Newark, died December 4, 2003 in Troy, of natural causes. Derrick was born May 30, 1984, in Rochester, the son of Kevin and Debra Pinnix Chappell. He graduated from Newark High School in 2002, where he loved to play baseball, soccer and tennis. He was in his second year at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, majoring in chemical engineering. Derrick was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church. Bassett, Harriett - Harriett S. Bassett, 85, of Lyons, died December 7, 2003. Harriett was born June 1, 1918 in Newark, to Robert and Gertrude Hartwell Seymour. She was a member of the Lyons Golden Agers. Surviving are three daughters: Gwendolyn (William) Banckert of Newark, Shirley (James) Johns of Lyons, Georgine (Ralph) Swann of Newark; two sons, William and David Bassett of Lyons; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Hornsby, Thomas - Thomas E. Hornsby, 89, of Newark, died December 6, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Thomas was born in Odd, West Virginia, February 12, 1914, a son of James and Mary Burks Hornsby. He worked in the coal mines in West Virginia for about 20 years. He moved in 1955 to Newark, where he worked as a machine operator for Garlock Co., retiring in 1974. He loved animals and enjoyed working on automobiles with his son. He is survived by his son Thomas J. (Lisa) Hornsby of Newark; grandchildren Craig (Jamie) Hornsby, Emily Marie (Jacob) Gray, and their mother Cheryl Hornsby; sisters Polly McBride and Piney McBride; many nieces and nephews; a long-time friend Mary June; and his cat Boots. He was predeceased by his first wife Grathel (Hurley) Hornsby and brother Charles Hornsby.

DeNeef, Margaret - Margaret H. DeNeef, 88, of Palmyra, died December 6, 2003 at her home. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, James P. DeNeef and three sisters. She is survived by her nieces, Sheila (Raymond) Scrivener of Pa. and Cynthia (Charles) Munier of Fairport; nephews, Timothy (Amy) Shoales of Montana and Thomas West of Fairport, and several cousins. Board, Randy - Randy F. Board, 53, of Ontario, died after a brief illness on December 4, 2003, at Rochester General Hospital. Truini, Helen J. - Helen Jane Truini, 76, formerly of Newark, died December 9, 2003 at the Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing in Dublin, Ohio. Helen was born September 19, 1927 in Newark, daughter of Joseph and Angelina Colacino DeMarco. She studied at Cazenovia College. Mrs. Truini had worked for Rochester Community Saving Bank for many years in Newark. She was a member of St. Michael Church and served with the Rosary Society. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Carol of Ohio and Greg and Penny of Michigan; daughter Gina (Jeffrey) VerMeersch of Newark; seven grandchildren; brother Frank DeMarco of Rochester; sister Martha Huober of Newark; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Truini was predeceased by her husband August Truini in 1994; brothers Tom and Joseph DeMarco; brother-in-law Owen Huober. Friends may call today (Dec. 12) from 7 to 9 at the Norman L. Cassavino, Michael - Michael C. Cassavino, 55, of Lyons, died December 4, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Interment, South Lyons Cemetery. Mike was born May 24, 1948, in Lyons, the son of John and Agues Reda Cassavino. He was manager of Marathon Title and Abstract in Rochester. He also worked for Monroe Abstract and Title Guarantee. He attended St. Michael's Church and graduated from Lyons High School in 1966 and from the University of Miami, Florida in 1971, with a bachelor of arts degree. He is survived by his mother, Agnes E. Cassavino of Lyons; his sister, Jordan (Ted) Bielowicz of Macedon; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, John, in 1987.

Stewart, Karlyle - Karlyle C. Stewart, 80, died October 11, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Karlyle was born April 6, 1923, in Hornell, to Charles E. Stewart and Clara Wheeler. His greatest interest were car races, hunting and bowling. He was a custodian for Pittsford-Sutherland School District of which he retired after 25 years. Karlyle was a WWII veteran and a recipient of the bronze star and purple heart for combat action in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was buried with full military honors. He is survived by eight children: Patricia Smith of Williamson; Edith Stewart of Marion; Michael (Ann) Stewart of Macedon Center, Anne McArthur of Ontario; Charles (Sandra) Stewart of Bloomfield; Phyllis Lester of Holcomb; Frances (Jeff Jensen) Stewart of Marion and James Stewart of Brockport; two daughters-in-law: MaryAnn (Justin) Hartnagel of Geneva; Paula Stewart of Ontario; four sons-in-law: Michael Richard of Sour Lake TX; Kenneth Bulman of Ontario; Albert Smith of Ontario and Earl Lester of Arizona; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Stewart of Dansville; 32 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Lucy Kent Stewart. (They were married April 12, 1947). Also predeceased by sons John David and Thomas William; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Richard of Texas; parents, Charles and Clara; four brothers, Clayton, Carlton, Kenneth and Russell.

Chasse, Alice - Alice M. Chasse, 74, of Newark, died December 10, 2003. Alice was born August 24, 1929 in Lyons, daughter of Dominic and Mollie DeVito Nicoletta. She was a dental assistant for many years and a long-time member of the Medical Dental Assistant Association. She was a Communicant of St. Michael's Church. Alice is survived by her children: Dennis (Pamela) Chasse of Newark, Susan Chasse of Newark, and Michael (Dawn) Chasse of Waterloo; three grandchildren, Michelle, Lindsay, and Darrell Chasse; two sisters-in-law, Mary Nicoletta of Olean and Mary Alice Nicoletta of Newark; cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Kaiser, Edward - Edward B. Kaiser, 80 of Newark, died December 9 at his home. Ed was born in Clyde, June 4, 1923, son of Charles and Dorthea Buisch Kaiser. He worked in constructuion for many years and operated a dairy farm in Clyde for 20 years. He was a member of the Clyde Grange, The Clyde Odd Fellows and drove school bus in Clyde for l0 years. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Havert Kaiser; a brother, William of Clyde; two sisters, Elizabeth Miller of Lock Berlin and Kathryn Porter of Waterloo; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Karl and a sister, Mabel Meade. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Burris, Wallace J. - J. Burris Wallace, 101 of Newark, died October 24, 2003. A Memorial Service will be Saturday (Dec. 13) at 2 p.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, East Miller St., Newark, with the Rev. Carlos Smith officiating.

Thomas, Clint - Clint E. Thomas, 75, of Sodus, died December 6, 2003. Clint is survived by his wife, Marian; children, Jim (Bobbi) Thomas, Linda (Jack) VanDeViver, Lesia (Jeff) Fletcher, Barb (Bill) Hursh, Thersia Thomas, Maschelle (Andy) Snyder and Susan (Daniel) Graham; 12 grandchildren; sister, Ruby Huff. He was predeceased by his sister, Mildred Schultz and brother-in-law, Charles Huff. Interment in the Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Yerdon, Norman - Norman N. Yerdon, 54, of Palmyra, died following a truck accident on November 26, 203. He was born in Troy, son of the late Norman Nelson Yerdon, Sr. and Marjorie Abrams Yerdon. For 33 years he was husband to Sharon M. Barlow Yerdon. He resided in the Troy area until 1974 and in Palmyra for the past 29 years. He was a graduate of Averill Park High School, class of 1969 and attended Hudson Valley Community College. He was a truck driver and deliveryman for Nichols Gas & Oil in Macedon, formerly employed at Trident Manufacturing in Webster. He was active in Little League as a parent volunteer. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and play golf, travel and camp and follow the NY Yankees. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Christopher Michael Yerdon of Troy; daughter, Shanna Yerdon-Walker (David) of Palmyra; two brothers, Douglas Yerdon (Leigh) of Johnstown, and Kenneth Arrington of Rochester; a sister, Barbara Schackett of Troy; two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake.

Stickler, Phyllis - Phyllis J Stickler, 83, of Marion and Phelps, died November 27, 2003. She is predeceased by her husbands, Alvin 'Toby' VanGee and William R. Stickler. She is survived by daughters, Beverly (Gus DeRycke) Parker of Palmyra, Mary Ellen (Ed) Stevens of Marion, Terri (Wayne) Nichols of Macedon; sons, Dennis (Shirley) Van Gee of Mace don, Jeffrey Stickler of NC, Chris Stickler of FL; brothers, Lynn (Elsie) Francisco of Fair Haven, Gerald (Jean) Francisco of Weedsport; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Conaway, Norman Jr. - Norman W. 'Tex' Conaway Jr., 53, of Lyons, died November 30, 2003. He was born April 3, 1950, in North Carolina, son of Norman and Zuleme Johnston Conaway, Sr. He worked at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Lyons and was a member of Lyons Elks Lodge #869. He is survived by his mother, Zuleme Evans of Lyons; three sisters, Martha Simoneaux of California, Shirley Tobin of Ithaca, Gloria (David) DeJohn of Waterloo; two brothers, Rudy Vaughn Conaway of Macedon and James M. Hogan of Lyons; several nieces and nephews. Interment is in Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons.

Pitzeruse, Michael - Michael Joseph 'Joe' Pitzeruse, 60, of Clyde, died November 30, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Joe was born Feb. 25, 1943, in Lyons, to Michael A. and Stella Secore Pitzeruse. He was a construction worker for 35 years for Local 832 of Rochester. He was a 35-year member of the Clyde Fire Department, with Rescue Company 4. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Shirley Bennett Pitzeruse; two daughters, Tammy Pitzeruse and Lori (Vincent) Marchitell of Clyde; one son, John M., Sr.; a sister, Paula (Steven) Judson of Indiana; his mother, Stella Pitzeruse of Clyde; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1998 by his father, Michael.

Miller, Esther - Esther Pauline Miller, 95, died November 28, 2003 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Esther was born August 1, 1908, in Lehighton, Pa., the daughter of Charles and Bessie Kressley Gerber. She was a graduate of Kutztown University and taught in Mahoning and West Pennsylvania Townships, Pa. She was a member of Zions Reformed Congregation in Snyders, Pa. She moved to Lyons in 1985. She is survived by her daughter, Doris (James) Johnson of Lyons; three grandchildren, Cheryl (Charles) Lasher of Lyons, Kathy (Michael) DeWaele of Clyde and Judy (Ron) Butler of Ashland, VA; eight great-grandchildren; sister Helen Kuhns; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased Oct. 22, 2002 by her husband, Charles, two brothers and one sister.

Williams, Harry - Harry M. Williams, 91, of Sodus, died November 30, 2003. Harry was a member of the Sodus Point Fire. Dept. for 54 years, he also worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad. Harry was predeceased in 1984 by his wife, Ruth and by a granddaughter, Christina Williams. He is survived by his children, Marilynn (Robert) Jones of Alton and Harry 'Sonny' (Sharon) of Punta Gorda, FL; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Shoots, Jeffrey - Jeffrey Todd Shoots, 38, of Geneva, died December 1, 2003 at his home, with family at his side. Jeffrey was born Dec. 27, 1964, in Rochester, to James D. Shoots, Sr. and Bonnie L. Veeder Thomas. He graduated in 1984 from Lyons High School and attended Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra. He was employed at Refractron in Newark. He had a great love for all sports especially NASCAR and Syracuse University basketball and football. He is survived by his wife, Monica Mitchell Shoots; two daughters, Solvia and Hannah; his mother, Bonnie L. Thomas of McDougall; his father, James D. (Patricia Greenwood) Shoots of Auburn; maternal grandmother, Hattie M. Shoots; maternal grandfather, Clarence Veeder; brothers and sister, James D. Shoots, Jr. of Newark, Laurie (Michael) Tota of New Jersey, Scott Shoots of Auburn, John (Rebecca) Shoots of Romulus; mother-in-law, Linda L. Allen Louise - Louise Allen, 91, of Marion, died December 1, 2003.She and her husband were dairy farmers for years. She is survived by her sons, Fred (Patricia) of GA, Ellsworth (Rosemary) of Rushville, Charles (Pat) of Marion; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo and son David.

White, Byron - Byron R. White, 62, of Sodus, died suddenly on November 30, 2003. He is survived by his father, Colin B. Cook, Edgar H. - Edgar H. Cook, 76, of Williamson, died November 20, 2003. He served in the US Army in WWII and the Korean Conflict. A licensed Civil Engineer in Monroe and Wayne Counties, he retired from the Webster School District. He was 50 year member of Williamson American Legion (Past Commander & Adjutant), past member of 40/8 Veterans Organization, and helped organize the Williamson Apple Blossom Festivals. He is survived by his devoted family, Lorraine (Johnson) Cook; daughter Dawn (Scott) Flora of Williamson; sons, David Cook, Daniel L. Gardner, Shirley E. - Shirley E. Gardner, 68, formerly of Sodus, died November 21, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Shirley graduated from the Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing, worked as a nurse for the Sodus Central School, was a Sunday school teacher, and a volunteer for the Wayne County Action Program RSVP. Interment in the Sodus Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Gordon; five children, Katherine Gardner and Robert Gardner, both of Newark; David (Mary Beth) Gardner of Lyons; Glenn (Kris) Gardner and Erik (Ronnie Schell), all of Lakeland, FL; 13 grandchildren and two nieces. She was predeceased by her brothers, Albert and Bernard Potter, and nephew Barnard Potter, Jr.

Monroe, Alice - Alice Monroe, 83, of Newark died November 26, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Alice was born October 3, 1920 in Herkimer, daughter of Wilber and Eda Rizon Monroe. She enjoyed music of all kinds. Alice will be missed by friends and staff at the Finger Lakes DDSO. Interment, East Newark Cemetery.

Rook, Douglas Jr. - Douglas Lee Rook Jr., 51, of Elmhurst, died suddenly at Elmhurst General Hospital, on November 15, 2003. Douglas was born June 27, 1952, the son of Douglas L. and Pearl N. Rook. He was predeceased by his father, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rook, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Newton. He is survived by his daughters, Christina (Steven) Weaver of Rochester, and Allison Rook of Erie, PA; his mother, Pearl Rook of Newark; sisters Pamela (John) Martin, of Garner, NC, Sandra (Rev. German) Cruz of Newark; three grandchildren, J.D., Hannah, and Heather. Doug graduated from Newark High School in 1970, and from the University of Rochester in 1975. He worked in the confectionery trade for 35 years, first in the family business, More Candy Co. in Rochester, and recently with the Simply Lite Food Corp. of Commack, NY. He had developed several formulas for sugarless candies. Doug's hobbies included astronomy and sailing. Memorials may be directed to the Sodus Bay Historical Society, P.O. Box 94, Sodus Point 14555. Funeral services are tomorrow, November 22, 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 400 South Main St., Newark with the Rev. Herb Tietjen officiating. Magde, Evelyn - Evelyn S. Magde R.N., 83, died November 17, 2003. She was a retired Registered Nurse of the G.R.H.C. Hospice of Wayne County. She lived in Marion and was a member of the Second Reformed Church, served on the Board of Directors of Wayne ARC, was a faithful volunteer of Newark Hospital. She and her late husband Stanley once owned and operated Magde Bakery in Rochester. Evelyn is survived by her loving family, sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald (Diane) Magde of Marion, Donald (Penny) Magde of Marion, Robbie (Patricia) Magde of Palmyra; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1999 by her husband, Stanley B. Magde. Interment at White Haven Memorial Park.

DeWispelaere, William - William 'Bill' DeWispelaere, 78 of Lyons died November 12, 2003 at his home. Bill was born June 18, 1925 in Newark, to William and Elizabeth DeWispelaere. He retired from New York Telephone Co. with more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching especially Blue Birds. He was a member of the Newark VFW, American Legion and the Pioneer Society. The Navy flag flew in honor of his military service during WWII - serving on the USS Alaska. Bill is survived his sons, William G. (Cathy) DeWispelaere of Wolcott, Dennis DeWispelaere of Newark, Raymond Fisher of Lyons, Gordon (Marsha) Fisher of Clifton Springs; daughters Linda (James) Christensen of Rushville and Phyllis (Richard) Hochbruckner of Palmyra; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sister Sarah Naeye of Palmyra; brothers-in-law Bill Bade of Newark and Ralph Strong of Pittsford; several nieces and nephews. Martin, Florence - Florence B. Martin, 95, of Newark, died November 14, 2003. She was born May 19, 1908 in Ontario and lived her entire married life in Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, John, owner of Martin Dairy Farms; granddaughter Crystal and great-grandson Jeffery. Fecteau, LaVerne - LaVerne Fecteau, 86, of Titusville, FL died November 10, 2003. He is survived by his daughters Catherine Salber of Newark and Dorothy Matteson of Rochester; sons Donald of Florida and Thomas (Donna) Fecteau of Syracuse; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters: Ruth Hendel in 2002 and Ruth 'Peaches' Kikta in 1977. He founded F&H Products, a machine shop in Rochester. He was also an avid race car fan which later turned into an opportunity to work with race teams at Spencer Speedway. He experienced driving a Modified Sportsman at Lancaster Speedway in 1970. Upon his retirement from F&H he moved to Florida and continued his racing involvement in SCCA, driving an MG Midget for several years. While in Rochester, LaVerne was an avid slot car racer.

Bushart, Clarence - Clarence R. Bushart, 72, of Marion, died November 14, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He was a life-long fruit and vegetable farmer. Clark, Mary - Mary Frances Clark, 95, of Clifton Springs, died November 13, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital Extended Care Unit. Mary Frances was born September 14, 1908 in Hornell, to Louis and Carrie Topping McGill. She was a Registered Nurse and retired from the Clifton Springs Hospital. She also worked as a private duty nurse. She is survived by her step-daughter, Barbara Mitchell of Rochester; special friend, Marge Mouton of Clifton Springs; three nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased in 1982 by her husband, Harold Clark. Interment, Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.

Latin, Robert - Robert James Latin, Sr., 90, formerly of Newark, died November 9, 2003 in Chandler, Arizona. He was born March 8, 1913 in Newark, son of Joseph and Louise (Ruffalo) Latin. He was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, receiving the Bronze Satar. For 35 years he was the Community Youth Center Director in Newark, Geneva and Waterloo. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and member of the Newark Council Knights of Columbus. Robert was married to Mollie (Jelomono) Latin for 66 years before her death in 2001. Special thanks are given to Eva and Justin, and to Joe Jr. and Amada Latin, for taking care of him. He is survived by his daughter Louise Zakoian of Sun Lakes, AZ; two sons, Robert J. (Sandy) Latin, Jr. and Joseph M. (Alice) Latin, Sr. of Phoenix; 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and a brother, Arthur Latin of Texas. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Bumpus, Natalie - Natalie Baker Bumpus, 90, formerly of Newark, died November 17, 2003 in Fayetteville, NC. Natalie was a retired school teacher, teaching for 25 years. She was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband, Ward Bumpus; a son, William Edward Bumpus of Galveston, TX; and two daughters, Sondra Cain of Fayetteville, NC and Crystal Wing of Fayetteville, NC; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Alvaro, Frank - Frank Richard Alvaro, 88, of Lyons and Tampa FL, died November 15, 2003 in Tampa Veterans Hospital, following a struggle with heart disease. Frank was born July 8, 1915 in Lyons, to John and Angeline Camada Alvaro. He served with the 82nd Airborne, Army OSS during WWII, working with the French Underground to liberate that country. He worked as a printer for more than 50 years, ending his career as Supervisor of the composing room of The Washington Post. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing poker and was a Redskins fan. He is survived by his wife Marie Alvaro; daughter, Margaret (Bill) Alvaro Richardson; brother, Anthony Alvaro; three sisters - Helen Santino, Rose Zulauf, Nellie Barman; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held November 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home, 77 William St., Lyons. Burial in South Lyons Cemetery.

Sturtevant, James - James M. Sturtevant, 83 of Sodus, formerly of Red Creek, died November 18, 2003. He was Supervisor of the Wayne County Probation Department from 1960-82 and was a State Fire Instructor from 1973-91. Surviving are his wife, Jean Peters Sturtevant of Sodus; sons, James S. Sturtevant of Wichita, Kansas and John M. Sturtevant of Syracuse; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Judith (Howard) Harris of Standish, Maine; one step-daughter, Marcia (Steven) Landgren of Webster; one stepson, Robert (Janice) Peters of Webster; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helene Mitchell Sturtevant, his second wife, Veronica Sturtevant, and a brother, the Rev. Joseph Sturtevant. Calling hours are Nov. 21 (today) from 4 to 7 at Becker Funeral Home, 6816 Church St., Red Creek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated November 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Wolcott. Troke, Pauline - Pauline DePauw Troke, 93, a resident of the Wayne County Nursing Home since 1997, died November 18, 2003. Pauline was born March 16, 1910 in Newark, to Victor and Elizabeth Donohue DePauw. She was employed for many years at Hickok's in Lyons, and was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Lyons Elkettes, Lyons Fire Department Auxiliary, and the Northern Central Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Brian) Wilsea of Marion; a grandson, Daniel of Marion; one step-granddaughter, Michele (James) Bancroft of Manchester; one step-grandson, Stephen (Heather) Wilsea of Connecticut; sisters, Louise Perkins of Newark and Elizabeth (James) Farrell of Rochester; and brother, Raymond (Betty) DePauw of Newark. Canne, Robert - Robert 'Bob' Francis Canne, 70, of Newark died November 9, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Bob was born March 21, 1933 in Newark to the late Raymond and Helen Kelley Canne. He was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge and the Newark VFW War Dads. Bob retired from Newark School District, where he worked for 20 years in maintenance at the middle school. He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Edith Canne of Newark, Larry and Joyce George of Lyons; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor on April 20, 1999. Interment, St. Francis Cemetery in Phelps.

DeGelleke, Ralph - Ralph E. DeGelleke, 81, of Alton, died November 10, 2003 at Newark Hospital. DeGelleke served in India with the Air Force during WWII. He was a member for 63 years and past president of the Alton Fire Department and Ambulance Corps. He was past president of the Wayne County Firemen's Association and an avid supporter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a Wayne County Court Clerk and a Sodus Town Justice. He is survived by Katherine, his wife of 53 years; daughter, Marjorie (Lawrence) Ashley of Alton; two step-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Grosz of Long Island; brother-in-law, Robert (Eleanor) Grosz of Alton; nieces and nephews. Candelaria, Hector - Hector L. Candelaria, 63, of Newark, died November 8, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Hector was born March 28, 1940, in Puerto Rico, son of Zenon and Carmen Bellaflores Candelaria. He was retired from ACP International, where he worked as a truck driver. He was also a Merchant Seaman for 15 years. He was director of the Legal Aide Society of Wayne County for many years and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He is survived by his mother, Carmen Bellaflores Palermo of Florida, and stepfather, Raymond Palermo; his wife of 30 years, Gladys Gutierrez Candelaria of Newark; two daughters, Jamie (Craig) Hornsby of Newark and Jennifer (Keith) Millspaw of Newark; five sisters: Millie Candelaria, Socorro Schutz, Rose McCloud, Nora Carnahan and Clara Palermo; two grandchildren, Phillip and Bryant Millspaw, and several nieces and nephews. Becker, Leta Belle - Leta Belle A. Becker, 88, formerly of Newark, died November 9, 2003 at Loretta Rest Home in Syracuse. Leta Belle was born November 5, 1915 in Conquest, to Roy and Laura Mott Lucas. She retired from the Newark State School as an aide in 1977. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 2883 and the American Legion Auxiliary 286 of Newark and also CSEA. Granger, Rev. Bernard - Rev. Bernard D. Granger, 75, of Malta, died October 23 at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Corning on August 13, 1928, the son of Rice and Dorothy Granger. He was a graduate of the Manlius School, Hobart College, General Theological Seminary and Berkley Divinity School. He was in the Naval Aviation Program from 1945-49 and served in the Chaplain Corps of the US Naval Reserve from 1959-84, retiring as a lieutenant commander. Father Granger was the rector of Episcopal Parishes in Montour Falls, Catharine, Eastchester and Newark. He also served at St. George's Episcopal Church in Clifton Park, Christ Episcopal Church in Ballston Spa and All Saints Episcopal Church in Round Lake. He was a volunteer fireman since 1954 in several fire departments. He served as chaplain of the New York State Central Firemen's Association for 45 years and also served as chaplain of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York for many years. Survivors include a wife of 50 years, Beverly Bambach Granger; four children, Stephen B. (Michelle) Granger of Greenfield, Susan M. Verbeke of Glens Falls, Catherine A. (Scott) Walroth of Niskayuna and Betsy J. (Bob) Kraft of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother, Robert (Mary) Granger of Fairhope, AL; and seven grandchildren.

Colacino, Catherine - Catherine R. Colacino, 87, died October 30, 2003 at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Colacino was born Feb. 22, 1916, in Newark, the daughter of Frank and Angeline Critelli Zappia. She attended Newark schools. In the 1930s, she worked at C.H. Stuart Co.. She founded Colacino Electric with her husband, Joseph T. Colacino, who predeceased her in 1984. Catherine and Joseph resided on West Sherman Avenue in Newark, in the house they built in 1939. She was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, the Sacred Heart Mission Society, the Rosary Altar Society and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Linda (Stowell) of Newark, Ronald and Suzanne of Newark; Donald and Laura of Lafayette, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Angeline Venuti of Newark; sister-in-law, Lena Zappia of Newark. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law Margaret and Kenneth Filippello, Mary and Harvey Decker; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Jaye Zappia, John and Eleanor Zappia, and Anthony Zappia; brother-in-law Michael Venuti. Interment, in Newark Cemetery.

Herman, Dorothy - Dorothy M. Herman, 85, of Newark, died November 2, 2003 at the Newark Manor. She was born September 24, 1918 in Marion, to William and Etta Collier Fisher. She had worked at Sarah Coventry Jewelry, retiring in 1970. She is survived by her son Ronald (Elaine) of Newark; three grandchildren, Cheryl (Chris) Deys; Susan Wright and Scott (Darlene) Hennan, great-grandchildren, Sarah Deys and Mcghan Wright. Mrs. Herman was predeceased by her husband Isaac; brothers Raymond, Ernie, Irving, and Maynard Fisher and sister Evelyn Boerman. Interment, in Newark Cemetery.

Hartwell, Sarah 'Punch' Pilkenton - Sarah E. 'Punch' Pilkenton Hartwell, 85, of Lyons, died at her home, October 30, 2003, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 27, 1918, in Wynoke, West Virginia. She is survived by her children: Hilda (Alfred) Garrison, Bimp (Dorothy) Hartwell, E.J. (Yvonne) Hartwell, Rosie (Barney) Barnes, Jewell (Tom) Crowley, Larry (Kathy) Hartwell, Bane (Fern) Hartwell, Joanie (Jim) Burt and Roger Hartwell; beloved son-in-law, Zeke (Mil) Hannon; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Nellie Papaso; sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Perry, Alba - Alba M. Perry, 88, of Lyons, died October 29, 2003 at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo. Alba was born July 4, 1915 in Lyons, to Anthony and Nellie DeLork. She worked for Sarah Coventry in Newark, and was a member of St. Michael's Church. She volunteered for RSVP, for which she made crafts, and she was a member of Lyons Senior Citizens. She is survived by two sons, Ronald of Lombard, IL and Francis 'Butch' (Debra) of Newark; a daughter, Carmella 'Carmie' (John) Simeone of Geneva; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a sister, Marv Orb of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, in August 1987; a sister, Josephine Avoli; three brothers, Santo, Peter and Anthony DeLork. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.

Walters, Kathryn - Kathryn C. Walters, 80, formerly of Clifton Springs, recently living at the Newark Manor, died November 1, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Kathryn was born Dec. 24, 1922, in Lyons, to Francis and Mabel Schraffenberger Chambers. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert R. Walters of Rochester; three daughters, Mary Kay (Terry) Wilson of Clifton Springs, Elizabeth Walters (fiancee Mark Arnold) of Clifton Springs, and Barbara (Timothy) DePaull of Penfield; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Anne. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery in Clifton Springs.

Schutt, Carl - Carl H. Schutt, 82, of Palmyra, died November 1, 2003. He is survived by a brother, Bob (Gail) Schutt of Palmyra; sisters, Arlene Price of Palmyra, Carolyn Griffis and Erma Clark, both of Marion; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl F. and Laura Schutt and brothers-in-law, Fred Griffis and Robert Clark. Interment is in Marion Cemetery.

Verstreate, Louise - Louise Verstreate, 85, died November 1, 2003 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Louis was born October 20, 1919 in Pulteney, to Ernest and Lillian Eldred Smith. Kretchmer, Eleanor - Eleanor Kretchmer, 85, of Newark, died October 31, 2003, at the DeMay Living Center. Eleanor was born in Seneca Castle and was a long-time resident of Geneva. She worked as a secretary in the planning department of the American Can Company. She was predeceased by her two husbands, James Hooser and William C. Kretchmer, two sisters, Margaret and Thelma.

Reynolds, James - James S. Reynolds, 67, of Lyons, died November 4, 2003 at home after a battle with cancer. Jim was an Air Force veteran of the Korean conflict, a life member of the North American Hunting Club, a member of Elks BPOE Lodge. #869 of Lyons and a member of the American Legion Winnek Post #396, Geneva. He retired from Newark Developmental Center in 1990. He was an avid hunter and trapper, mechanic and carpenter. He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 19 years; children, Stephen (Denise), Paula (Rich), Thomas (Maria), Wendy (JR); stepchildren, Daniel (Claire) Ovenshire, Kellie (Ken), Tamela (Kirtis); and 11 grandchildren. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Gilbert, Rick - Rick J. Gilbert, 47, died October 28, 2003 at the Providence Portland Hospital in Oregon. Rick was born February 13, 1956 in Newark, the son of Robert and Gladys Stipke Gilbert, Sr. Rick was a member of the Newark Church of God. He had served four years in the Navy and was a member of the American Legion August Mauer Post #286, and the Newark Elks Lodge #1249. He was a self-employed auto mechanic. Rick is survived by his son, Rick II of Newark; his mother Gladys (Stan) Zaborowski of Newark; five sisters: Bette (Roger) Moses of California, Barbara (Robert) Vickery of Newark, Beverly (Stephen) Hotchkiss of Newark, Betsy (Nicholas) Americo of Newark, Bonnie (John) Bergfjord of Newark; one brother Robert (Julie) Gilbert, of Newark, many nieces and nephews. Wallace, Burris - J. Burris Wallace, 101, of West Maple Avenue, Newark, died October 24, 2003, three days before his 102nd birthday, at Newark Hospital. He was born October 27, 1901 in Atlanta, NY to James and Alice (Burris) Wallace. He is survived by his daughter Joanne Wallace of Newark; many nieces and nephews; cousin Grace Burris of Iowa; special friends Clem Nielson and George and Elie Bump and their dog Gus. He was predeceased in 1998 by his wife, Ada Wightman Wallace, and a young son James Wallace. Interment, Clearview Cemetery in North Cohocton.

Williams, Carol - Carolyn Helen Woodworth Williams, of Palmyra, died October 23, 2003 at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, due to complications from surgery. Carol was born in Binghamton and lived in Killawog until 1969, when the family relocated to Newark. She later resided in Pultneyville and Canandaigua. She received her Bachelor's degree in education from SUNY Cortland and Master's degree from SUNY Brockport. Williams was a respected, beloved teacher, touching hundreds of children's lives during her 38 years as an educator. She began in Whitney Point Central Schools, teaching sixth grade for 10 years before moving with her family to Newark. She taught at the Palmyra-Macedon Elementary Schooland retired in 1995.She and her husband moved to Milford, PA to be closer to children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, James C. Williams; daughter Lizette (Dr. Joseph) Macaluso of Larchmont; son Christopher K. (Isabelle Vita) Williams of Redding, CT; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Matthew James Williams; her mother, Dorothy Wheeler Krum; her father, Charles Byron Woodworth; her stepfather, Gary Gray Krum. Interment in Upper Lisle Cemetery.

Beal, Roy - Roy H. Beal, 89, of Old Newark Road, Lyons died October 25, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Roy was born September 18, 1914, in the Town of Galen, a son of Harry and Emma Miller Beal. He was a veteran of the Air Corps during World War II, a member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks BPOE Lodge 869 of Lyons, life member of St. John's Lutheran Church, avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by Helen (Garlic), his wife of 62 years; a brother, Lester Beal of Phelps; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Kenneth, Arthur and Earl, sisters Helen Gansz and Lila Noble. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Dapolito, Margaret - Margaret B. Dapolito, 94, of Clyde, died October 27, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home after a long illness. Margaret was born March 9, 1909 in Clyde, daughter of James and Mary Cullen Burke. She Attended Clyde Schools and was a graduate of Nazareth College of Rochester. She was a member of the Syracuse Chapter of the Nazareth College Alumni Association and the American Association of Women - Newark Chapter. She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband Anthony (Ted) Dapolito in 1989. She is survived by her brother Edward of Florida and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Interment, St. John's Cemetery.

Fagner, Ernest - Ernest J. Fagner, Sr., 66, of Palmyra, died October 27, 2003 at his home. Ernie was born April 3, 1937 in Canandaigua to Ernest G. and Katherine Jansen Fagner. Ernie was a veteran of the United States Air Force. The Air Force flag flew in his honor. Ernie and the former Mary Ann Schutt were married October 6, 1973 in Palmyra. Mr. Fagner is survived by his wife, and children: Ernest J. Fagner, Jr. of Cohocton, Ellie Jo (Steve) Sonacci of Manchester, Julia House of Geneva, Dolores (Richard) McDaniel of Newark, Audrey (William) Gedney of Palmyra, and Guy (Sheryl) Powell of Romulus; his brothers Gerry Fagner of Newark and Charles (Peg) Fagner of Phelps; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 1 at the Living Word Assembly of God Church in Ontario. Pastor Borden Gerace, Jr. will preside. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery.

Murphy, Walter - Walter Murphy, 83, of Lyons, died October 28, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Walter was born May 22, 1920 to Walter and Margaret Murphy. He lived with his family in Lyons and was a member of the Finger Lakes DDSO family. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons.

Hommer, Mabel - Mabel (Kreiss) DeMay Hommer, 81, of Newark, died October 18, 2003 at Newark Hospital as a result of an automobile accident on South Main Street. Mabel was born May 13, 1922 in Lyons to Frederick and Evelyn (Colter) Kreiss. She attended Clyde Central High School where she graduated in 1940. Mabel was an active member of Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. Recently, she was working on the Christmas Bazaar and was a weekly volunteer in the church office. Pastor Tim Johnson called her 'a bright and shining star in our midst.' She had worked for Sarah Coventry for over 17 years, at Rose City Glass, where she retired in 1980, and recently helped in the office of Dr. Seung Hur. She was a member of the Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary for Newark (Past President), Wayne County Auxiliary, Penn Yan (Past President), Yates County and Northern Central (Past President). She had volunteered many hours for the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary. Mabel enjoyed walking all around the village of Newark. Every year she participated in the CROP Walk (to fight hunger) and would be one of the first to finish. She received more pledges from Church World Service CROP than anyone else in town. She always had a smile on her face and brought joy to many people in the community. Mabel will be remembered for being outgoing, and for her youthfulness and love for others. Mabel will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law Kathleen and Richard Cooper of NC, and Karen and Nicholas Cameron of Clifton Springs; step-daughter and son-in-law Sharon and John Houck of Penn Yan; grandchildren Jennifer (Ludovic) Harent, Jane (Martin) Safford-Cameron, Christopher (Adrina) Cooper, Shannon Cooper, Michele (David) Houck-Maus and Karen Freshour; seven great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Norma) Kreiss of Rochester; sisters-in-law Nancy Kreiss of Newark and Cynthia Deys; several nieces and nephews. Mabel was predeceased by her first husband Joseph L. DeMay in 1978, and second husband Duane N. Hommer in 1991, and her brother Glenn Kreiss in 1995. A Memorial Service will be Sunday (Oct. 26) at 3 p.m. at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Interment is at the convenience of the family.

Pritchard, Jessica - Jessica L. Pritchard, 19, of Newark, died in a car accident October 21, 2003. She graduated from Pal-Mac High School in 2002, currently lived in Newark, and was employed at McDonald's in Newark. Henecke, Dennis - Dennis James Henecke, Jr., 19, of Shortsville and Newark, died October 17, 2003 following an accident on Route 31 between Newark and Palmyra. Dennis was born May 31, 1984 in Canandaigua, son of Dennis J. Henecke and Diane Earley. He attended Shortsville High School, where he played baseball for the Red Jackets. Dennis will be missed by his mother and step-father, Diane and Raymond VanLare of Marion; father and step-mother Dennis J., Sr. and Sonia Henecke of Newark; sister Holly Henecke of Marion; half sisters Dianne Palistemer and Lynn Rugg; step-sister Carrie VanLare; paternal grandparents Henry and Thelma Henecke of Shortsville; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Rob and Krista Livingston. DeCann, Frances - Frances A. DeCann, 72, of Newark, died October 19, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Frances was born August 31,1931, in Newark, to Frederick and Helen Downey DeCann. She retired from Garlock Co. in 1996 with 45 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Palmyra Moose, and Garlock Rod and Gun Club. She was an avid card player at the VFW and American Legion. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Collier of Wolcott and Eleanor (William) Vermeulen of Newark; two brothers, Alan DeCann of Manchester and Robert DeCann of Newark; nieces and nephews; dear friends, Florence Lourette and Paulette Jones; and many friends. Interment is in East Newark Cemetery.

Johnston, Ernestine - Ernestine G. 'Ernie' Johnston, 65, of Lyons, died October 15, 2003 at the Newark Hospital. Ernie was born July 17, 1938 in Bath, daughter of Frank and Eunice Hamilton, and raised in the Rushville area. She was a member of Rushville Methodist Church. She spent many years working in factories, and 26 years as a Home Health Aide for Ontario County and Genesee Region Home Care in Newark. She retired in 1993 for health reasons. She was a volunteer for Caring Friends, and made many gifts for them. She is survived by two daughters, PollyAnn Hamelinck of Dundee and Debbie Lee Johnston of Newark; four grandchildren; dozens of cousins, and her dear Aunt Alice Parsons of Rushville. She was predeceased by her parents; son Frankie in 1994; her best friend Bob Fairman in 1995; and many good friends. Interment in the Rushville Cemetery.

Nellis, Jacqueline - Jacqueline F. Nellis, 67, of Georgia, died Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Geneva General Hospital. Jacqueline was born May 20, 1936 in Newark, to Lewis and Evelyn Lee Snell. She retired from the Parkway Medical Hospital in Lithia Springs, GA. She is survived by four sons: Timothy, Michael, Bruce and Patrick; a daughter, Jody Villalobos; several grandchildren, all of Georgia; and brother Robert (Claire) Snell of Lyons. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Bruce.

Colburn, Martha - Martha G. Colburn, 92, of Rose, died October 14, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. Martha was born Sept. 30, 1911, in Newark, to Clarence C. and Catherine A. Beal Colburn. She was employed for years as a secretary for the University of Rochester. She is survived by her niece, Joan (Jim) Vicinus of Sodus Point; a nephew, David Colburn of Pennsylvania; great-nieces and great-nephews.

Sappa, David - David R. 'UNC' Sappa, 79, of Lyons, died October 17, 2003. David was born December 11, 1923 in Lyons, to Roger F. and Julia Sappa. He was a lifelong farmer and retired bus driver for the Lyons School district. He was a member and treasurer of the Wayne County Snowmobile Club. He is survived by his sister, Eleanor Krebbeks of Lyons; nephew, Dennis (Marilyn) Krebbeks of Clyde; two nieces, Sandy Ridley of Syracuse and Hope (Libo) Alexanian of Lyons; two great-nephews, Ethan Krebbeks of Lyons and Kyle Alexanian of Lyons; great-niece, Kenzie Alexanian of Lyons; cousins, aunts and dear friend Shirley Smith of Sodus. Herzog, Frank - Frank E. Herzog, 86, of Ontario, died October 18, 2003. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, son Jonathan, sisters, Florence Rabjohns, Marian VanDorpe, and brother, Edward. He is survived by daughters, Judith (Albert) Pascente of Gates, Pat (Joe) Martin of Shortsville, Donna F. Fyock, Marilyn - Marilyn J. Fyock, 62, of Florida, died October 15, 2003. Marilyn was born in Green, Pennsylvania and moved to the Destin (FL) area in 2000, from Western New York. She worked with the NYS Department of Developmental Services. She had worked at the Destin Elementary School. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Kathleen) Fyock of Destin, FL; three brothers, Edward Fyock, Donald Fyock and Junior Fyock, all of Ohio; two sisters, Fay Shaw and Norma Decker, of Ohio; and granddaughter, Katie Fyock of Destin. Inurnment is in Destin Memorial Cemetery.

Paige, Louise - Louise A. Paige, 81, of Lyons, died October 17, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband Earl Paige. She is survived by her sons, Charles (Clara) Paige, Robert Paige; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial is at White Haven Memorial Park.

Waterman, Della - Della Ethel Waterman, 81, died October 12, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Della was born January 7, 1922 in Rochester to the late Ernest and Lula Webb Daniels. She and her husband moved to Jamestown, NY, where they raised their five children. Della loved children and became a Foster Parent and brought many children into her home. She moved back to Rochester in the late 1950s. She worked for Wegmans for many years in the meat department followed by the Fashion Barn as a sales clerk. She and her husband retired in Florida and built their home in Lakeland. They moved to Newark in 1999. Della loved music, playing the piano, enjoyed the Lawrence Welk Show and working on puzzles. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Norman O. Waterman; sons, the Rev. Ronald (Karen) Waterman of MS, and Norman L. (Rebecca) Waterman of Newark; daughters Beverly (William) Wandersee of FL, Norma (Fred) DeHaven of PA, and Joyce Lorraine of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Della was predeceased by four brothers and four sisters. Burial at Falls Cemetery in Greece.

Stewart, Karlyle - Karlyle C. Stewart, 80, of Newark, died October 11, 2003. Karlyle was a World War II Army veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for combat action in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucy, sons, John D. and Thomas W., and daughter, Mary Richard. Karlyle is survived by eight children: Patricia (Albert) Smith, Edith Stewart, Michael (Ann) Stewart, Anne McArthur, Charles (Sandra) Stewart, Phyllis Lester, Frances Stewart and James Stewart; daughter-in-law, Maryann (Justin) Hartnagel; 27 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Stewart, and family friend, Paula Stewart. He was buried with full military honors in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Rahm, James - James E. Rahm, Jr., 60, of Newark, died October 13, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Jim was born on January 31, 1943 in Newark, to James E. and Virginia King Rahm, Sr. He was an avid coin collector and had been employed as a machinist for various area firms. He is survived by his mother, Virginia 'Jean' Rahm; sisters Sally Mobbs, Betty Yost and Judy Hagar; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, and brother John Rahm. A graveside service will be Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m. at Port Gibson Cemetery.

Sergeant, David - David J. Sergeant, 41, of Clyde, died October 8, 2003 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. David was born January 3, 1962, in Lyons, to James D. and Carolyn S. Compson Sergeant. Dave was employed by the Thomas Electronics Co. in Clyde and was an avid weight-lifter. He lived in Clyde for the past 22 years, having lived prior to that in Lyons. Interment, Maple Grove Cemetery in Clyde. He is survived by three sons, Christian Pickering of Clyde, Christopher Sergeant of Clyde, and Andrew Smith of South Butler; two daughters, Bree Sergeant of Clyde and Brooke of Savannah; one stepdaughter, Carrie Pickering of Texas; his parents, James D. Sergeant of Savannah, and Carolyn S. Ruiz of Newark; his stepfather, Diego Rosario of Puerto Rico; two brothers, Juan A. Rosario of Lyons, and Juan D. (Diane) Rosario of Newark; three sisters, Urcelina Rosario of Seneca Falls, Elinor (Timothy) Cain of Lyons, and Carolyn Rosario of Newark; nieces and nephews.

Arnold, Mae - Mae Arnold, 89, of Marion, died October 9, 2003. She is survived by her loving husband William; son, Maurice (Ginny) Guinup of Newark; daughters, Betty (Eugene) O'Neill of Palmyra, Carolyn (Leo) Rogers of Macedon, Shirley (Wesley) Reynolds of Marion, Peg Soden of Rochester; five step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Williamson Reformed Church.

Russell, Beatrice - Beatrice Anne Russell, 62, died Oct. 10, 2003 in Florida. Beatrice Anne was born December 17, 1940. She is survived by her sisters, Patricia DeToye and Sheila Larson; sons Terri 'Russ', Scooter (and Michelle), BJ and wife Dee; daughters Debbie DeToye Burroughs, and Brenda DeToye Navarro (and Ray), Robyn Muncy (and husband CJ Seventeen); several grandchildren, one nephew, and one niece. Beatrice was predeceased by her father Gabriel DeToye and mother Mary DeToye.

Crego, Eloise - Eloise S. Crego, 89, died October 12, 2003. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Loveless; two sons, James and Gerald Crego, all of Lyons; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Putman and brother, Robert Smith, both of Lyons. She was predeceased in 1984 by her husband, Clarence; also by three brothers, Harold, Irving and George Smith. Interment, Rose Cemetery.

Tharnish, Wilma - Wilma Tharnish, 77, of Newark died October 11, 2003.Wilma was born April 1, 1926 in Hornell to William and Bessie Skinner Tharnish. She enjoyed watching video movies, shopping, collecting dolls, buying clothes and jewelry. Wilma will be missed by friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO Cobblestone. Interment, East Palmyra Cemetery.

James, Lena - Lena A. James, 82, of Lyons, died October 15, 2003 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. She is survived by two sisters, Lillie Belle Mathes and Estella Sutton of Newark; daughter-in-law, Earline Battle of Newark; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar James and sons Robert L. Battle and Clint Mitchell. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery, Phelps.

Robinson, Chris - R. Christopher Robinson, Jr., 43, of Liverpool, died October 8, 2003 in an automobile accident. Chris was born in Hackensack, NJ, and was a 1978 graduate of Ramsey High School. he was employed by DHL Worldwide Express in Syracuse. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville.He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Julie Bouwens Robinson; a daughter, Bridget and a son, Nicholas, all of Liverpool; two sisters, Melissa (David) Brady of Brewster, MA and Nancy (Paul) Clark of Hammondsport; his parents, Rodman C. Sr. and Marilyn Manchester Robinson of NJ; mother-in-law, Florence Kratzer of Baldwinsville; father-in-law and step-mother-in-law, Herly and Esther Bouwens of Newark; sister-in-law, Lori Weimer of Newark; brother-in-law, Butch (Christine) Bouwens, of Newark; sister-in-law, Amy (Craig) Colf of Palmyra; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many good friends and neighbors.

Kirchhoff, Marion - Marion S. Kirchhoff, 75, of Palmyra, died October 13, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Kirchhoff; daughters, Karen (Jim) Gottler of Greece and Heidi Sevor of Clifton Springs; brother, Paul H. (Kremi) Spangler of Minnesota; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cleason, Donald - Donald J. Cleason, 74, of Palmyra, died October 5, 2003 at Veterans Administration Hospital in Buffalo. Don held a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Hope College in Michigan, served his country in the Air Force and Coast Guard, was a member of the American Legion, and a life member of the Palmyra Reformed Church, where he served as an Elder. Don is survived by his children; Debra (Gary) Oegema, Kitty (Michael) Momburg, Vicki (Eric) Bjork, Donald Cleason, Joanne Strohl; 13 grandchildren; sisters Lorraine (Robert) Healy, Joan (Calvin) Bucknam; brother David (Grace) Cleason; many cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends Ruth and Mark Lawrence. He was predeceased by infant daughter Terri in 1960 and by his parents, Jacob and Florence (Blankenberg) Cleason. Interment with full military honors will be in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Mattle, Alice - Alice (Martin) Mattle, 71, formerly of Ontario County, died October 1, 2003 in Rochester. She was a graduate of the Rochester General School of Nursing. She is survived by husband, Norman; daughter Kim (Dave) Krause and Martin VanDuzer; brother Dr. Robert Martin; niece Melinda (Jon) Brusky; two step-children and two step-grandchildren. Services and Interment are at the convenience of the family, living in Port Gibson.

Kautz, William - William George Kautz, 85, of Waterloo and New York City, died October 3, 2003 at the Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo. It was the wish of Mr. Kautz to scatter his cremains over a body of water. William was born July 28, 1918 in Milford, PA to William and Elizabeth Spinkham Kautz. He enjoyed the outdoors and traveling all over the world. Mr. Kautz was a Sea Captain and a great sea navigator. The Navy flag flew at the funeral home in honor of his service to our country during WWII. Kautz will be missed by his sister and caregiver Margaret Whitcomb of Newark; several nieces and nephews.

Hall, Gladys - Gladys E. Hall of Palmyra died October 4, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Gladys was born in East Smithfield, PA to Ralph and Ruth Hall. She was a graduate of Clifton Springs High School and was a retired legal secretary.

von Wiegen, Anne - Anne C. von Wiegen of Palmyra died October 3, 2003. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon S., a son, George, and daughter, Patti. She is survived by sons, Gordon H. (Judy), Eric P. (Pam), Fredrick W. (Carol); daughter, Susan A. (Hart) Pierce; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mickey Darling; several nieces and nephews.

Cator, Erin - Erin Scott Cator, 23, of Clyde, died Oct. 7, 2003 after an automobile accident. Erin was born July 14,1980, in Geneva, son of Edwin and Joanne Murray Cator. He attended Clyde-Savannah schools and worked at Agway Fertilizer Co. in Lyons before becoming disabled. Prior to that, he worked at I.E.C. and Ultralife Batteries in Newark. He is survived by his mother, Joanne Cator, of Clyde; his father, Edwin Cator, of Florida; brother, Darrick Cator, of Clyde; stepfather, Rickey Forjone, of Clyde; maternal grandmother, Barbara Murray of Lake Charles, LA; paternal grandmother Elizabeth Cator of Newark; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Interment in St. John's Cemetery.
