Kennedy, Marion - Marion Whitbeck Kennedy, 90, died March 25, 2004 in Seminole, Florida. She had lived in Florida since retiring from Newark Hospital, where she was a Registered Nurse. She was predeceased by husbands, J. Walter Kennedy (January 2004) and Wilbur Whitbeck (May 1980). She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Gerald) Buss of Naples, NY and Joan (William) Bradford of Penn Yan; grandchildren and one great-grandson. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17 at noon at the First Baptist Church of Newark.

Risley, Elida - Elida Risley, 97, of Newark, formerly of Watertown, died March 30, 2004. She was predeceased on March 27, 2004 by her twin sister, Wiltha Risley Tucker. She was the daughter of Frank and Gulielma (Gardner) Risley. She is survived by her niece Dixie Prittie of Palmyra; nephew Lewis (Ann) Tucker; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Elida was born March 23, 1907 in Watertown, attended Flower Avenue Elementary School, graduated from Watertown High School and from Potsdam Normal School in 1928. She taught Kindergarten in Alexandria Bay for 13 years, and retired from Watertown Public School System. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for 83 years.

Tucker, Wiltha - Wiltha (Risley) Tucker, 97, of Newark, formerly of Watertown, died March 27, 2004. Wiltha's twin sister Elida Risley died on March 30, 2004. She was the daughter of Frank and Gulielma (Gardner) Risley. She is survived by her daughter, Dixie Prittie of Palmyra; son Lewis (Ann) Tucker; grandchildren Richard and Joan Prittie, Jamie Boult, Eric (Melinda) Tucker, Diana (Alan) Hopkins; five great grandchildren. Wiltha was born March 23, 1907 in Watertown, attended Flower Avenue Elementary School, graduated from Watertown High School and from Potsdam Normal School in 1928. She married Richard Tucker on November 28, 1929. She taught Kindergarten in Johnstown, Gardnerville and retired from Watertown Public School System. Lamoureux, Arthur - Arthur Lewis Lamoureux, 79, of Newark, died March 31, 2004 at his home. Arthur was born November 9, 1924 in Ware, Massachusetts, son of Arthur and Agnes Bourcier Lamoureux. Since 1987 he had been a barber for Mason's Barber Shop in Newark. He retired from the Navy and served in WWII, Vietnam and Korea. He is survived by his wife, Helen Baldassarie Lamoureux; two sons, Sam (Judy) Carpenter of Newark and James Carpenter of Williamson; three daughters, Sandra (Edward) Schoenheit of Sodus Point, Patricia (Robert) Wood of Ontario, Elsie (Ronald) Bordelon of Louisiana; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 3 at 11 a.m. at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Court, Newark. The Rev. Peter Clifford will be officiating.

Gullo, Angeline - Angeline C. Gullo, 98, of Newark, died peacefully at her home on March 25, 2004. Her husband Joseph died in 1962. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Gullo, Robert (Vi) Gullo, Anita (Hugh E.) Crowley and Edward (Joan) Gullo; loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment in the Newark Cemetery.

Mancuso, Peter - Peter P. Mancuso, 77, of Newark, died March 24, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Peter was born December 25, 1926 in Newark, son of Fred and Teresa Colosi Mancuso. Peter was the mailroom supervisor at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Canandaigua until he retired in 1983, after 36 years of service. A communicant of St. Michael's Church, he was an ardent fan of music by the Big Bands and was a movie buff. He is survived by his beloved wife, Erma Mancuso; a son, Peter (Lori) Mancuso of Brighton; a daughter, Lori (Dan) Maynard of Naples; four grandchildren; brother, Vincent (Mary Jane) of Newark and sister Mary (Gordon) Harris of Taylorville, NC; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Fred, in 1963; and his mother, Teresa, in 2004. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Klahn, Doris - Doris I. Klahn, 68, of Fairville died March 29, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Doris was born October 23, 1935 in Fairville to the late Dewey and Marion Hartnagel Ramph. She graduated from Lyons High School and had worked for Scofield Car Dealer for many years. She was a member of the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed the outdoors, watching bird, playing cards and was a great sports fan, especially fond of the Syracuse Orangemen. Doris will be missed by her husband Robert Klahn; brother Richard (Barbara) Ramph of Fairville; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews. Interment will be at Fairville Cemetery.

Gary, Kathleen - Kathleen L. Gary, 63, of Newark died March 31, 2004 at DeMay Living Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Kathleen was born October 10, 1940 in Rochester, to William and Lillian Watson. She worked at Hallagan Manufacturing for 28 years, retiring in 1996. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by her husband Donald L.; son, Richard Dennis, Jr. of Rochester; daughter Nancy Ann (Art) Rose of Ludowci, GA; step-daughter, Ann (Sylvester) House of Newark; sister Marilyn Sheehan of Batavia; three grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1994 by her husband Richard Dennis, Sr. and her brother William Watson, Jr. in 2001. Calling hours are today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St., Newark. A service tomorrow at 9:30 at the funeral home will be officiated by the Rev. Peter Clifford. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Tenney, John Brooks, III - John Brooks Tenney, III, 50, of Norfolk, Virginia and formerly of Marion, died March 25, 2004 after a long bout with liver disease. An Eagle Scout, he completed high school in Audubon, PA. Appointed to US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, Long Island, he graduated in 1976. For 20 years he was a Ship's Deck Officer in all capacities, ultimately achieving an unlimited master's license. He taught Navigation for several years at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies, Linthicium Heights, MD. His appetite for life made him interested in everything from people to rocks. He is survived by parents, Hope and Brooks Tenney of Williamson; 2 brothers, Stan (Mary) of Daytona Beach, FL and Andrew; nieces, nephews, cousins in several states. Private interment, Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Lyon, Doris - Doris Ellen Lyon, 83, of Newark, died March 28, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Doris was born August 5, 1920, in Newark to William J. and Mary Craine Lyon. A 1938 graduate of Newark High School, she did secretarial work for C.H. Stuart, Inc. for many years, retiring in 1981. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by her twin sister, Lois Jean Lyon of Newark, a niece Bridget Swartz of Parish, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Howard Lyon. Burial will be in Port Gibson Cemetery.

Madison, Roy - Roy J. Madison, 79, of Williamson, died March 30, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; two stepsons, Ward (Helen) Bush and David Bush, both of Sodus; two grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Pender and Elizabeth Cerasani; two brothers, Joseph (Betty) Madison and Donald (Jonnie) Madison; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Oscar (Ann) Madison and George (Italina 'Dolly') Madison; sister, Dorothy (Michael) Kamb. Calling hours are today (Fri., April 2) at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home in Sodus, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Smith, Jean - Jean L. Smith, 85, of Palmyra/Phoenix, died March 31, 2004. Jean was born n November 18, 1918 in Cambridge, Massachusetts and attended school in Brookline. She was active in fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House of Syracuse and volunteered for years with Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her husband Eugene F. Smith; sister-in-law Peg (Harold) Contant of Palmyra; brother-in-law Stuart Smith of Palmyra; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Bertha Yerxa Lydiard and her daughter, Candace Smith. Calling hours are today (April 2) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 West Main St., Palmyra, where a service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery.

McMullen, Ann - Ann C. McMullen, 86, of Sodus, died March 30, 2004. She owned beautician businesses in Sodus and Sodus Point for over 35 years. She is survived by her children, Don Hulett (Joyce Sombathy), Marcia Wemesfelder, Peg garlock (Cal Kern); step-sons, Phil (Nancy) McMullen, Christ (Jeanette) McMullen; 14 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Koch, Martha - Martha A. Koch, 78, of Macedon, died March 26, 2004. She is survived by her children, Linda Koch of Floral City, FL, Stephen (Cynthia) Koch of Fairport, Barbara (Gene) Niles of Newark; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sister Dawn Gibson; brother Philip Schrader; mother-in-law Alida Koch. Martha was predeceased in 1995 by her husband Edwin Koch; and predeceased by her son Kenneth Edwin Koch, who died in 1970 in Vietnam, while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Shortsville.

Vollertsen, Charles - Charles F. Vollertsen, 75, of Newark, died March 28, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Charles was born January 27, 1929 in Newark, to Roy and Flossie Haynes Vollertsen. He was a carpenter for O'Brien Homes. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Brown Vollertsen; sons Timothy (Ann) of Palmyra and Todd (Cindy) of South Carolina; two daughters, Sharon (Tim) Van Gorder of Manchester and Bonnie Peters (Craig Enos) of California; three step-sons; three sisters - Shirley Houck of Palmyra, Barbara Howes of Newark, Pat Klaver of Lyons; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment in Fairville cemetery.

Chapple, Gordon 'Gordy' - Gordon W. 'Gordy' Chapple, 75, of Macedon, died March 29, 2004. Gordy is survived by his wife Betty; sons, Steve (Robin) Chapple of Fulton, Todd Chapple of Hornell, Dr. Charles (Ann) Chapple of South Elgin, IL and Army Major James (Sarah) Chapple of Stafford, VA; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother, Richard W. (Sue) Chapple of Simi Valley, CA; several cousins, nieces, nephews and his dog, Buckshot. Gordy served 35 years with the Village and Town of Macedon as a Police Officer, and then as Animal Control Officer. Visitation will be today (Friday, April 2) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Payne & Murphy Funeral Home, 1040 Route 31, Macedon. The service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Macedon Cemetery.

Beal, Lester 'Pete' - Lester E. 'Pete' Beal, 86, of Phelps and Newark, died March 18, 2004 at his home. He was born February 19, 1918 in Lyons, to Harry and Emma Miller Beal. He attended Lyons High School and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proprietor of Lester's Beauty Salon in Newark. He was a life member of the Harmonie Lodge #83 F&AM in Buffalo, life member of Newark Rod & Gun Club, 50-year member of the Carpenters Union Local #86 in Geneva. He is survived by his son David (Candice) Beal of Tennessee; sisters-in-law Henrietta Beal of Rochester, Helen Beal and Helen Beal both of Lyons; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased Sept. 10, 2002 by his wife, Dorothy Chamberlin Beal, by daughter Roxanne (in 1963), four brothers and two sisters. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Piech, Walter - Wladyslaw Walter Piech, 80, of Newark, died March 20, 2004. Walter was born January 26, 1924 in Bobawiski, Poland, the son of John and Katarzyna Tkaczyk Piech. He moved to Newark in 1951. He had worked for Hallagan Mfg. for 14 years and retired in 1986 from Newark Developmental Center. He was a member of the Palmyra Moose Club, Polish Alliance, and St. Michael's Church. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by two nieces and one nephew in Poland, and good friend, Margaret Pulver of Newark. He was predeceased in 1977 by his wife, Elizabeth.

Meaker, George - George K. Meaker, 78, of Palmyra, died March 17, 2004. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce. George is survived by his children Russell (Carolyn), Norman (JoAnn), Sally (Ken) Unger, Irene Meaker; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers Warren Meaker and Harold Meaker; sisters Jeanette Newman and Grace Glezen; many nieces and nephews. Interment at Palmyra Cemetery.

Anderson, Margaret - Margaret Anderson, 86, of Newark/Albion, died March 18, 2004. She is survived by a daughter, Benny Mae (Steve) Owens-Lynch of Newark; a son, Otis (Barb Smith) Floyd of Albion; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by longtime companion Candy Floyd, two sons - Willie James Jackson and Willie C. Newton, four brothers and two sisters. Interment is in Mt. Albion Cemetery.

Brown, Alice - Alice Brown, 77, of Sodus, died March 17, 2004. She is survived by her children, Sandra (Alan) DeBadts and Arthur Brown, both of Sodus; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; stepsons, Fred Brown of Florida and Gary Brown of Rochester; her loving companion Harry Hurley of Rochester; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Fred Brown.

Bastian, Sharon - Sharon Dawn Bastian, 56, of Lyons, died March 22, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Sharon was born July 27, 1947 in Lyons, to Emerson and Dorothy Donnelly Bastian. She worked for General Dynamics in Newark and operated her own cleaning service for many years. She had also worked at Grace House. She is survived by her companion and good friend, Tim Popielarczyk of Lyons; daughter, Ashlee Popielarczyk of Lyons; son, Todd DeWind of Rochester; brothers, Rodney (Gail) of Sodus and Jarvis (Cathy) of Cary, North Carolina; sisters, Bonita (Allen) Legott of Stafford and Donnalee Fernnays of Salem, Oregon; grandson, Brandon DeWind; nieces and nephews. Spring interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Peets, Richard - Richard P. Peets, 67, of Sodus, died March 20, 2004. He was a retired self-employed carpenter. He is survived by wife, Joann (Mosher) Peets; son, Rick (Kathleen) Peets of Marion, daughter, Sandee (Charlie) York of Williamson; four grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice (Ralph) Moak of Ontario, Viola (Richard) Krenzer of Almar; brother, Rodney (Clara) Peets of Ontario; sister-in-law, Eleanor Peets; brother-in-law, Frank Corwin; nieces and nephews; special friends, Bill and Loretta Groell. He was predeceased by his brothers, Russell and Rollin; sister, Dora; sister-in-law Marion.

Mitchell, Bertha - Bertha Mitchell, 87, of Rochester, died March 22, 2004. Bertha was born June 18, 1916 in Rochester to John and Anna Edger VanGee. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing. Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a son, Norman (Lorna) Frenz of Rochester; daughter Nancy (Richard) VanZile of Florida; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Edward Mitchell, three brothers and three sisters. A graveside service will be held at Parma Corners Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Vanderlinde, John - John Vanderlinde, 90, of Sodus Center, died March 20, 2004 at Blossom View Nursing Home. He is survived by wife, Jeannette; brother, Adrian (Jennie) Vanderlinde of Sodus; nieces, Elaine Gruet of Williamson, Sharon (Ronald) Gentle of Webster, Carol Vanderlinde of Williamson, Dorothy (Marvin) Haak of Kingman, AZ; nephew, Gary (Linda) VanSteen of Lyons; great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Adrian and Mary (Timmerman) Vanderlinde; sister, Lorraine Van Steen; brothers, Isaac and Jake Vanderlinde. Interment will be at Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Dickinson, Donald - Donald B. Dickinson of Marion died March 21, 2004. He was a WWII Army veteran, an Eastman Kodak retiree, and a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church of Marion. He is survived by his faithful and loving family; beloved wife Shirley M.; daughter, Susan (Roy) Marriott of Williamson; sons, Timothy (Cathy) of Avon; Jeff (Kathy) of South Carolina; Marc (RoseMarie) of New Jersey, Matthew (Tracy) of Iowa; 16 grandchildren; sister, Annabelle (James) Osborn; brothers, Wendell, Luther (Eleanor) and Leslie (Dorothy); nieces and nephews. Phillips, Susan - Susan F. Maybury Phillips, 57, of Marion, died unexpectedly, March 19, 2004. She was predeceased by her father, H. Francis Maybury and father-in-law, Howard M. Phillips, Sr. She is survived by her husband Howard Phillips; mother Vera Campbell Maybury; brothers Tom Phillips and David Phillips; aunts Fredis Showalter and Patricia Wildt; three nieces, five nephews, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, and her mother-in-law, Rosalynn Phillips. Interment will be in Palmyra Cemetery.

Kelly, Raymond - Raymond A. Kelly, 86, of Sodus, died March 22, 2004. He is survived by his children, Kathy (Mike) Barenthin, Sue (Jim) Ellis, Richard Kelly, Jean (Bill) Savior and Charles Kelly; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Stephens, Gary Michael 'Mike' - Gary Michael 'Mike' Stephens, 44, of Clifton Springs, died March 22, 2004. Mike was born June 18, 1959 in Hornell, to Gary and Nancy Spencer Stephens. He enjoyed cars, boats, sports, watching old movies, dancing, horseback riding and skiing. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Gary and Sue Stephens of Elmira; mother Nancy Stephens of Colorado; brothers Scott (Eileen) Stephens of Virginia and Christopher (Marcia) Stephens of Colorado; sisters Ann Elizabeth (Dr. David) Harford of Texas and Michelle Mays of Harford, NY; many uncles, aunts, nieces and cousins, and friends at Finger Lakes DDSO. Synesael, Susan - Susan A. Synesael, 78, of Newark, died March 16, 2004 at DeMay Living Center. Susan was born November 14, 1925 in Newark, to Vincent and Francis Quattrocchi Federico. Years ago she worked at C.H. Stuart Co. and the Salvation Army. She babysat for many years for her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Michael Church and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. Friends may call Friday (today) 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Ct., Newark. The VFW and American Legion will have a visitation this evening at 7:30. Funeral service will be March 20 at 11 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Peter Clifford officiating. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Arnold E.; five sons, Howard (Mary Jane) of Geneva, Kenneth (Susan) of Punta Gorda, FL, Stephen of Henrietta, David E. (Juli) of Newark, Douglas (Julie) of Newark; two daughters, Darlene (Ed) Blamble, Dorene (David) Orbaker of Newark; 10 grandchildren; sister, Barbara Rowe of Canisteo; nieces and nephews.

Holder, Peggy - Peggy Ann Holder, 74, of Newark, died March 12, 2004. Peggy Ann was born March 20, 1929 in Akron, Ohio, to Edgar and Louise Lewis Lowry. After moving to Newark in 1970 from North Canton, Ohio, she worked as a salesperson for Garlock, Inc. Peggy was an active member of the Woodlane Community Church. She loved to sing and over the years, had been a member of several choirs. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John F. Holder, two daughters, Diane (David) Christler, Sandra (Kenneth) Lannon; two sons, Gregory (Donna) Holder and Ronald Holder all of Newark; five grandchildren - Amy and Lauren Christler, Michael Muscarella, Jason and Julie Holder. Burial will be in the East Newark Cemetery.

Morse, Nelson - Nelson G. Morse, 72, of Newark, died March 12, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospice in Rochester. Nelson was born June 23, 1931 in Cortland, son of Leonard and Cordelia Miller Morse. He was a supervisor for Ultralife in Newark and worked for IEC Electronics. He was an Air Force veteran. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Morse, Sandy (Russ) Carlson, Ron Morse, Patti (Rick) Betine, Dawn (David) Comden and Donna (Scott) Francis; a sister, Beverly (Russ) Morse; two brothers, Richard (Jan) and Don Morse; 18 grandchildren; a son-in-law Marty Douglass; and his friend and caretaker John Freeman. He was predeceased by his daughter Linda Douglass in 2000; and brother Leonard 'Bud'. A graveside service was held at East Newark Cemetery.

Porter, Burnett A. 'Junior' - Burnett A. 'Junior' Porter, 57, of Fairville, died at his home in Port Orange, Florida on Sunday, March 7, 2004. Junior was born October 14, 1946 in the Newark, the son of Burnett G. and Evelyn Smith Porter. He was a distribution manager for the News Journal in Dayton Beach. Prior to moving to Florida in 1982, Junior was an auto salesman in the Newark. He had enjoyed softball coaching, auto and bike racing. He is survived by his daughter Jenna, sons Thomas and Brett Porter, stepdaughters Elisa Luongo and Rachel Cook, and grandson Austin, all of Port Orange; two sisters - Jane Smith of Waterloo and Janette Dodge of Tampa, nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 10 in the Fairville Cemetery. A time of fellowship and remembrance will follow the service at the family store in Fairville.

Smith, Evelyn - Evelyn M. Smith, 80, died March 15, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center. Evelyn was born January 7, 1924 in Brooklyn, to Whitey and Lillian Riley Peterson. For many years, she was a secretary for Mobil Chemical in Macedon. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. During World War II, Evelyn was a Sergeant serving in the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve. She is survived by a son Brian, and nephews Brandon and Tyler Smith, all of Colorado Springs. She was predeceased April 1, 2002 by her husband Frank C., and their son Wayne C. Smith, February 16, 2004.

Smith, Jane - Jane L. Smith, 87, of Blossom View Nursing Home, Sodus, died March 10, 2004. She was retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Newark State School. She was a life member of the Alton United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving and devoted family, niece, Carol (Everett) Briggs of Sodus, nephew, Richard (Nancy) Goetzman of Sodus; four grandnieces and nephews; great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Private interment is in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Bonnell, Jesse - Jesse J. Bonnell, 89, died March 13, 2004 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Jesse was born November 13, 1914, in Burlington, Vermont, son of Jesse and Pearl M. Bunker Bonnell. He retired from Garlock in Palmyra, was a member of Lyons American War Dads, and Lyons Fire Department for 49 years. He is survived by eight children: Vivian Jones, Jesse M. (Roberta) Bonnell both of Florida, Robert (Lynn) Bonnell of Waterloo; Ron (Darlene) Bonnell, Jack (Mary Lou) Bonnell and Shirley Bonnell, all of Lyons; Alan Bonnell and Penny Bonnell, both of Hannibal; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edwin, George, Floyd, Dorothy and Marian. Interment in Rose Cemetery.

Danhauser, Monica - Monica L. Danhauser, 76, of Clifton Springs, died March 13, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Monica was born May 31, 1927, in Wolcott, to Horace and Margaret Vezzose. She was a 1948 graduate of Genesee Hospital School of Nursing. She worked for three years in Rochester General Hospital's operating room. She began working at Clifton Springs Hospital's operating room in 1961 and three years later became the operating room supervisor, where she remained for 27 years. She had worked for the last 18 months as special projects coordinator at Clifton Springs. She had worked as a consultant for hospitals in Chicago, Montana and North Carolina. Monica returned to Clifton Springs Hospital in 2000, where she worked as an analyst. She is survived by her husband Ben; a son, Ted (Donna) Danhauser of Plano, Texas; three grandchildren and a sister, Mary Green of Wolcott. She was predeceased by her brothers, James and Sam, and sister, Jo. Interment will be in Huron Evergreen Cemetery in Wolcott.

Ingold, Ralph - Ralph Conrad Ingold, 65, of Palmyra/Union Springs, died March 16, 2004. He was born June 23, 1938 in Rochester. He is survived by four children, Robert (Lynda) Ingold, Ginny (Lee) Riggall, Connie (Bert) Ferris, Stephanie (David) Burke, eight grandchildren, and a brother Robert P. Ingold (Kim) of Tonawanda, two nieces and two nephews. He was an employee of Gleason Works and worked for many years for the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS as the Grounds Directory for the Church's historical sites in New York. He loved to work on his family genealogy, was an avid reader, collected stamps, had great love for his cactus plants. A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27 at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (Palmyra Ward).

Barclay, Doug - Douglas B. Barclay of Sodus, died March 11, 2004 in Lakeland, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three sons, Jeffery (Brenda), Daniel and Brian, all of Sodus; a brother, Rodney of Sodus; two sisters, Esther (Roger) Hylkema of Newark and Janet (Donald) Fernaays of Sodus; sister-in-law Alice Barclay of Sodus; nieces, nephews and cousins. Flanagan, James M., M.D. - James M. Flanagan, M.D., 81, formerly of Highland Ave., Newark, died March 4, 2004. Dr. Flanagan was born in Andover, MA, attended Tufts University and the Marquette University School of Medicine in 1948. His residence in radiology was at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Quincy City Hospital, and Westfield State Cancer Hospital in Mass. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1962, during World War II, the Korean War, and Berlin Airlift, with the 301st Field Hospital with the Rank of Major M.C. In medical practice for 50 years, he was radiologist at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic from 1954 to 1958, and instructor of radiology at the State University of Iowa from 1958 to 1961. He came to Newark to serve as Chief of Radiology at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, He served as Councilor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees with the Seventh District Branch of the Medical Society of the State of New York, and delegate to the American Medical Association from 1980-1995. He was a recipient of the Henry I. Fineberg, MD award for Distinguished Service in 1999. In 1989 Dr. Flanagan was appointed as Town of Arcadia Health Officer. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy (Fengler); his children, Jeriann McEvoy (Michael), James Mark Flanagan II (Cathy), Kathryn Ann Flanagan; 6 grandchildren; brother, Joseph V. Flanagan of MA; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Serens, Frederick R. - Frederick R. Serens, 67, of Newark, died March 9, 2004. Fred was born May 1, 1936 in Newark, to Frederick L. and Winifred Burt Serens. He was a letter carrier for 12 years and a mail sorter for six years at Newark Post Office, retiring in 1991. Prior to that, Fred worked for the Village of Newark at the Newark Cemetery. He served his country with the Air Force for 13 years and was a member of the August Mauer Post American Legion and the Arcadia Memorial Post VFW. Fred was the founding president of the Newark Wayne Coin Club. He is survived by his wife Veronica (Vera), a son Robert (Tracy) of Newark, daughters Suzanne (Terry) Wiltsie of Lyons and Kelly (Scott) Wiltsie of Ocala, Florida; seven grandchildren; two sisters Linda Williams and Mary Kay (Bernard) Colacino both of Newark, several nieces, nephews and aunts. Fred is predeceased by his mother Winifred on January 24, 2004, in 1985 by his father Frederick L.; his sister Susanne, and a niece, Stacy Colacino. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Pollock, Estella - Estella Pollock, 94, of Newark, died March 3, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center. Estella was born June 4, 1909 in the Town of Arcadia, to George and Minnie Carl Wahl. For eighteen years, she was matron of 'C' Building at the Newark State School. From 1947 to 2002 she did childcare in her home. She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Amitie Chapter, Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by her son Roger (Marie) Rawden of Fullerton, California and a daughter Elaine (Timothy) Reichgott of Pittsford, and seven granddaughters; a brother Robert Wahl of Florida; three sisters Edith Rawden of Sodus, Betty DeBlaere of Newark, and Ruby Jones of Florida. She was predeceased by her husbands Claude Rawden in 1940, and Chester Pollock in 1979, four brothers Arthur, Bert, George and Raymond Wahl, two sisters, Mabel Faas and Blanche Hughson. Interment is in the East Newark Cemetery.

Malone, Lillian - Lillian C. Malone, 82, of Ontario, died March 4, 2004 at Hill Haven Nursing Home in Webster. She was a Xerox retiree, member of the Pioneer Club of Xerox, a Gold Star Mother and member of the Marlon American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughters Linda (Lewis Jr.) Green, of Texas, Deborah (Paul) Fuller, of Webster; sons, William (Gail) Malone, of Palmyra, Patric (Jonett) Malone of Ontario, Daniel (Diane) Malone, of Palmyra; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Dominic (Phyllis) Marco of Webster; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1979 by her husband, Leroy Malone; by son, Richard and Kenneth. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Lannon, Bernice - Bernice Bea Lannon, 84, of Clifton Springs, died March 9, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home. Bea was born March 12, 1920, in Varick, to Robert and Nettie VanNostrand, and lived in the Clifton Springs area all her life. She worked for many businesses. Bea and her husband, Cecil, cared for Riverview Cemetery for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Frank) Colasurdo of Newark; a son, Guy (Brenda) Lannon of Clifton Springs; grandchildren, Korie (Joseph) Loson of Newark, Kellie (Kevin) Tellier of Littleton, Colo.; Karen (William) Groover of Newark, Rhonda (Tim) Vanderbrook of Phelps and Jason (Carrie) Lannon of Clifton Springs; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil, son Richard and sister, Doris. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Prittie, Thomas - Thomas J. Prittie, 81, of Palmyra, died March 9, 2004. Tom is survived by his wife, Dixie; sons, Richard of Utah and John of Connecticut; cousins, June Harms of PA and Jane Kichline of FL. He was born in Philadelphia to Edwin and Meta (Thiry) Prittie. After graduating from Abington High School, he began his college education at SUNY Oswego. His college studies were interrupted by World War II. Tom enlisted in the Army and served as a Military Policeman in Europe. After the war, Tom returned to Oswego, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree. At Oswego, he became national president of the Delta Kappa fraternity and was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society. He did graduate work at Syracuse University and the University of Rochester. Tom retired from the Palmyra-Macedon School District where he was a respected educator. He was a member of the VFW, Wayne County Historical Society, Sons of the Union Veterans, and Disabled American Veterans. He and his wife Dixie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery with full military honors.

Withey, Phyllis - Phyllis J. Withey, 71, of Palmyra, died March 10, 2004. She was predeceased by her son, Edward (Skip) Withey. Survived by husband Edward Ted Withey; children Linda Rozell, Richard (Dawn) Withey, Gordon (Christine) Withey, Lorraine Withey; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours are March 14 from 1-3 p.m. at McGuire/Hargrave & Murphy Funeral Home, East Jackson Street, Palmyra, where the service will be held at 3. Interment will be in Walworth Cemetery.

Goehle, Michael - Michael S. Goehle, 52, of Geneva, died March 8, 2004. Michael was an optician in the Rochester/Finger Lakes area since 1972. He is survived by his sons, Todd and Brian; parents Oscar and Wilma; brother Randall; and by Sandra Goehle. A service will be held March 12 at 7 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fairport.

Bowles, Kenneth G. - Kenneth G. Bowles, of Marion, died February 26, 2004. A celebration of his life is planned at the Pultneyville United Methodist Church, Saturday March 20 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service.

Wagner, Ralph - Ralph M. Wagner, 85, of Lyons, living at Wayne County Nursing Home, died March 7, 2004. Ralph was born November 9, 1918, in Phelps, to Charles and Frances Mentz Wagner. He retired from Xerox Corporation and was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Force, in which he was a POW and received a purple heart. He was an Eagle Scout, a member of the Lyons VFW Post 5092 and the Lyons Elks Lodge. Interment in the South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by his son, Richard J. (Deborah) of Lyons; step-granddaughter; two step-grandsons and several step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Fritz of Tennessee; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Helene (Helbert) Wagner in 2002.

Wolfanger, Alice - Alice M. Wolfanger, 81, of Springwater, died March 3, 2004 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville. Alice was born February 4, 1923 in Springwater, to Gordon and Hazel (Perkins) Leeson. She married Kenneth A. Wolfanger on July 18, 1941; he predeceased her on May 30, 1985. She is survived by her children - Warren (Sandra) Wolfanger of Avon, Randy (Gloria) Wolfanger of Newark and Mona (Mike) Bovee of Springwater; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of the Springwater United Methodist Church. Interment is in in Mt. Vernon Evergreen Cemetery, Springwater.

Welcher, Paul - Paul Lee Welcher, 82, formerly of Minsteed Road, Newark, died Feb. 29, 2004 at his home. Paul was born February 23, 1922 in the Town of Arcadia, to Harold and Lois Lee Welcher. He was a retired dairy farmer, being a fifth generation owner of the Lee Farm on Minsteed Road. He was a member of the former First Church of Christ, Scientist in Newark and a present member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist of Boston, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1938, and a graduate of New York State Agriculture and Technical School at Farmingdale. He was a member of the Newark School Board for 15 years, being president for four years. He was a member of the former Rose City Ensemble singing group for many years. Paul is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marian Rykbost Welcher; son, Thomas (Donna) and grandson Adam of Sodus; granddaughter Andrea (Alan) Place of Fairbanks, Alaska; son, Jeffrey (Theresa) and granddaughter, Meghan and grandson Aaron of Oneida. He was predeceased in 1998 by his son, Frank; he is survived by Frank's widow Sue and grandson Evan, both of Newark; survived by a brother, Eugene (Fannie) Welcher and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Kimber of Bradenton, FL; several nieces and nephews and his best friend, Gerald Burnham of Newark. Interment will be in the Fairville Cemetery.

Lester, Harold - Harold J. Lester, 82, of Newark, died March 1, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Harold was born March 16, 1918 in Lyons, to William and Ruth Lamson Lester. He worked at the Railway Post Office in Binghamton, and was a postal clerk for 39 years at the Newark Post office. During WWII he was a sergeant in the Army and was awarded the Victory Medal. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Marion, American Legion and VFW of Newark. He farmed in his earlier years. Since 1987 he delivered flowers for Graham Florist. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (Beth) Wood Lester; three daughters - Deborah Lester, Rebekah Lester and Priscilla Valle, all of Newark; one granddaughter, Beth (Michael) Vetter in New Jersey; a sister, Elizabeth (Milton) Savage of Canandaigua; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1965 by his son Jonathan, and brothers, Kenneth in 1984, Albert in 1994. Spring burial in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Cunningham, Freda - Freda A. Cunningham, 97, of Connecticut, formerly of Newark, died February 26, 2004 at the Miller Memorial Nursing Home in Meriden, CT. She was born August 14, 1906, in Lyons, to Daniel and Agnes Johnson Chappell. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark. She moved to Meriden, CT in the late 1980s, to live near her daughter, Gail. She will be missed by her daughter, Gail Walker of Wallingford, CT; three granddaughters and three great-granddaughters; her brother, Elmer W. Chappell of Newark; nieces and nephews. Freda was predeceased September 3, 1980 by her husband, Joseph A. Cunningham; and two sisters, Mildred Kotvis and Dorothy Hunt. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Goodman, Jesse - Jesse R. Goodman, 82, of Phelps, died March 2, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. He was born April 3, 1921 in Lyons, to Jesse and Jennie Ridley Goodman. He was a member of Phelps Historical Society and the American Legion, a Navy veteran of World War II. He owned Goodman's Corner Store for 21 years. Jesse is survived by his son Jesse J. (Brenda) Goodman of Williamson, daughter Joan (Larry) Ripley Graham of Phelps; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his lifelong companion, Thelma Ripley. Spring interment in Resthaven Cemetery.

Skinkle, Grace - Grace P. Skinkle, 78, of Lyons, died Feb. 25, 2004 at home. Grace was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Conrad and Ilie Mae Hawkins Edwards. She retired from Parker Hannifin in Clyde and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a life member of the Lyons Rod and Gun Club, an avid reader, and golfer at the Wayne Hills Country Club. She is survived by her son, Richard (Denise) of Palmyra; two daughters, Barbara (Jack) White of Clyde, and Wendy (Nelson) Whitcomb of Palmyra; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband, Clifford W. Skinkle, and by a sister, Virginia Hartman. Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery in Penn Yan.

Deys, James - James H. Deys, 63, of Palmyra, died Feb. 28, 2004 after a battle with cancer. Jim was born June 22, 1940 in Canandaigua, to Henry and Cynthia Demay Deys. He attended Palmyra High School. Jim and Esther Nevelezer were married April 18, 1964 in Palmyra. he worked as a machinist at Garlock until his retirement in 2000 after 41 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed hunting and woodworking. He is survived by his wife, Esther; son Christopher (Sheryl) Deys of Newark; granddaughter Sarah Deys; mother Cynthia Demay Deys of Palmyra; brother Gary (Margaret) Deys of Endwell; sister Cheryl Smith of Palmyra; aunt Edith Deys of Palmyra and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was predeceased by his father, Henry Deys. Interment is in Palmyra Cemetery.

Bowles, Kenneth - Kenneth G. Bowles, age 69, entered into rest on Thurs., Feb. 26, 2004. He retired from Eastman Kodak and was a member of the Pultneyville United Methodist Church. DeRue, Lucy - Lucy S. DeRue, 101, of Williamson, died February 29, 2004 in Blossom View Nursing Home, Sodus. She was born April 25, 1902 in Newark, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Brill) VerCrouse. She started her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse and retired from Williamson Central School District. She was a member of the Pultneyville Reformed Church. Predeceased by her beloved husband in 1984, Alfred DeRue. Survived by her niece, Jean Weller of Pennsylvania; grandnephew, John (Erin) Weller; cousins and many special friends. Private interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

DeBadts, Abram - Abram 'Junior' DeBadts Jr., 79, of Sodus, died February 28, 2004 in Largo, Florida. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Evelyn (Tack); children, Shawn (Robert Jr.) Chase, Alan (Sandra) DeBadts, Cheryl (Roger) Legg, Karin (Thomas) Jagger, Robert (Julie) DeBadts, Jeffrey (Franceen) DeBadts; and his special exchange student, Dutch daughter, Wilhemina (William) Von Beekhoff; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Marie Dority; nieces, nephews and cousins. Jones, Richard - Richard 'Dick' O. Jones, 82, of Lyons, died February 29, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Dick was born May 31, 1921, in Buffalo, to Lynott and Mary Elizabeth Hughes Jones. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan. He was a professional engineer for Parker-Hannifin Co. of Lyons. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers as a captain. He also served in the European Theater in World War II. He was an avid golfer and a member of Wayne Hills Country Club. He was a member of the Cloverleaf Square Dance Club. He was an avid bridge player. He loved to read and he taught reading as a literacy volunteer. He was a member of the former Lyons Club of Lyons, longtime member of the National Rifle Association, and was a skilled marksman. He is survived by his son, Eric (Linda) of Eugene, OR; a daughter, Catherine (James) McConnell of Fremont, CA; one granddaughter; a brother, Lansing (Beverly) Jones of Johnson City; three nephews; longtime friend, Joyce Lehmann of Webster. He was predeceased in 1986 by his wife, Vera. A celebration of his life will be Saturday, March 6 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Lyons.

Lyon, Harold - Harold Kenneth Lyon, 84 of Newark, died February 21, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Harold was born October 4, 1919 in Port Gibson to Kenneth and Margaret Lyon. He retired from Papec Machine Co. in Shortsville where he was an engineer. Harold loved to tinker with things and was very particular with everything he did. At one time in his life, Harold was an avid hunter. Harold is survived by Marian Pruner Lyon, his loving wife of 56 years; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Bernard Austin, Jr. of Syracuse; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters; brother, Raymond (Jean) Lyon of Port Gibson; sister-in-law Gladys Davidson of Phelps; nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his brother, William Lyon. The Air Force Flag flew at the funeral home in honor of Harold's service during WWII. Interment will be in Port Gibson Cemetery in the spring.

Bidleman, Lewis - Lewis E. Bidleman, 74, of Newark, died February 23, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home after a long illness. Lew was born January 30, 1930, in Lyndonville, son of Donald and Paulina Porter Bidleman. He was a mechanic for the NYS Transportation Department for 17 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a Past Exalted Ruler for Newark Elks Lodge 1249. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War, and member of August Mauer American Legion Post 286. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Wilma Campbell Bidleman; son Will of Clifton Springs; daughter Cindi Massi of Pasadena, Maryland; grandson, Tony Massi of North Hollywood, California; two brothers, Porter of Altamont and Roger of Vero Beach, FL; brother-in-law, Bernard Campbell of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George.

Vogt, David - David E. Vogt of Marion, died February 23, 2004 after a bout with cancer. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Albright; brothers Robert and Thomas (Brigitte) Albright; nephew Luke Albright; niece Lynn Albright; longtime companion, Mark Gillette; aunts Jeanne Zornow and Blanche Albright; uncles Richard Verian and Harry Blaeser; cousins and many friends in Wayne County, Rochester and across the country. David was predeceased by his father Elmer Vogt (WWII); brother Michael Vogt; and step-father Harold Albright. David enjoyed music, travel and gardening. He attended SUNY Alfred and was an electronics technician at Harris Corporation, as well as a carpenter. He practiced Siddha Yoga with Muktananda and Guru Mal.

Smith, Wayne - Wayne Council Smith, 53, of Newark, died February 16, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Wayne was born April 3, 1950 in Brooklyn, to Frank C. and Evelyn Peterson Smith. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and had served with the New York State National Guard. He had been a podiatrist's assistant at the Veterans Hospital in Canandaigua. He is survived by his mother, Evelyn, of Newark, and brother Brian Smith of Colorado Springs, and two nephews.

Drinkwater, Nancy - Nancy Drinkwater, 68, of Newark, died February 18, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Nancy was born December 17, 1935, in Newark, to Anthony and Mary Mazzeneca Pellicano. She retired from Acme Markets in Canandaigua, and was a health aide at the Ontario County Health Facility. She was a Senior Companion for Newark Developmental Center and member of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by a daughter, Lori (Chris) Robson of Waterloo; three sons, Leo V. Pickard Jr.. of Geneva, Paul Pickard of Clifton Springs, and Michael (Patricia) Pickard of Liverpool; one brother, Angelo (Alice) Pellicano of Lyons; nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and loving companion, Donald Nicoletta of Newark. Toomey, Mary - Mary Toomey, 79, of Newark, died February 18, 2004. Mary was born July 13, 1924 in Wellsville, PA to the late Otto and Leora Wilber Toomey. She came from the Walworth IRA House, where she lived for 10 years, to 104 Cobblestone Terrace for three years. She will be missed by a special friend and volunteer, Gail Johnson of Newark, and other friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Vosburgh, Doris - Doris M. Vosburgh, 88, of Palmyra, died February 19, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband, Fay Vosburgh. She is survived by her step-daughter; Shirley Felice; four granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and several nieces; and nephew Harold (Marion) VanHoute. Interment will be in Palmyra Cemetery.

Amico, Virginia - Virginia Mary Amico, 73, of Lyons, died February 18, 2004, at Rochester General Hospital after an extended illness. Gina was born in Lyons on August 17, 1930, to Virginio and Tina DeVito Santelli. She and her husband were co-owners of the Amico Cleaners in Lyons. She served on the Board for the Wayne County ARC, was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, past President of the Lyons Public Library and a member of the Wayne County Antiques Association. Spring interment will be in South Lyons Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Frank; two children, Thomas (Roxanne) Amico, and Jeanne (Michael) Lester; five grandchildren, Kyle, Benjamin and Thomas Lester, Frank and Nicolette Amico; brother, Edward (Lena) Santelli; sister, Cecelia Lester; several nieces, nephews and cousins; sister-in-law, Mary (Amico) Laudenslayer; brother-in-law, Vincent (Dorothy) Amico. She was predeceased by her brothers, Michael, Peter and Charles Santelli.

George, Howard - Howard E. George, 79, of Lyons died Feb. 21, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Howard was born May 13, 1925, in Lyons, to Ferres and Clarabel Facer George and had served 37 years in the Postal Service. He was a Postmaster for 13 years prior to his retirement in 1981. Howard served in the Army during World War II and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He followed the Yankees, Buffalo Bills and Syracuse University basketball teams. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Lyons Elks Lodge 869, Lyons American Legion and VFW, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a former Lyons Fire Department member. Spring interment will be in South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Shirley Munn George; sons, Ronald (Carol) George of Newark and Donald (Barbara) George of Rochester; daughter, Nancy (Doug) Lowe of Lyons; five grandchildren; a sister, Doris (Bernard) Kneut of Newark; one aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Chase, Walter - Walter H. Chase Jr., 83, of Palmyra, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Sally Good Chase; sons, Richard, Randall (Sara), Robert and Ronald (Julie) Rink; stepmother and her husband, Mary and James Woodley; sisters, Fern Whitehurst and Sherrill Chase; five grandchildren. Bowman, Jacqueline - Jacqueline D. Bowman, 54, died February 18, 2004. She was born November 4, 1949 in Dundee, Florida, and had lived in Sodus and Macedon. She is survived by her mother, Alfonso G. Doyle, Carol - Carol J. (Kreiser) Doyle, 71, formerly of Sodus, died February 19, 2004 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. She is survived by six children, Tim (Cindy), Laurie, Mike (Terry), Shawn (Sue), PJ (Lisa) and Chris; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Dwen Giljam; brother, Dale (Marilyn) Kreiser. Candee, Truman - Truman Charles Candee, 85, of Cobblestone Terrace, Newark died February 20, 2004. Truman was born February 1, 1919 in Skaneateles to Roger and Bernice Candee. His sense of humor and his fortitude are two qualities people admired. He had the opportunity to travel to Nashville several times and went on two cruises. Truman will be missed by special friends Val Minns, Robyn Shawe, Holly Coon and Jennifer Birdsall; many friends and staff at the Finger Lakes DDSO. Interment at Soule Cemetery in Auburn.

Mack, Irene - Irene M. Mack, 81, of Palmyra, died February 15, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband Emory on March 7, 2001. Irene is survived by daughters Leslie (Richard) Dickinson, Janice (Michaell) Semans; four grandchildren; four great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. Bump, Irvin - Irvin C. 'Bumpy' Bump, 66, of Palmyra, died February 23, 2004. Irvin was born November 3, 1937 in Palmyra to Harold and Theda Quinter Bump. He served in the Army and was a member of the AmVets. The United States Army Flag flew in his honor at the funeral home. Bumpy was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Robert. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret Fuller and Beverly Bump; brother, Richard (Phyllis) Bump, cousins, nieces and nephews. Private interment in Palmyra Cemetery.

Wunder, Helen - Helen M. Wunder, 77, formerly of Lyons, died February 25, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Helen was born in Lyons, April 4, 1924 to George and Rose Brandt Eckert. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Martha Circle, The Lutheran Church Women, Order of the Eastern Star, Lyons Elks Auxiliary, and Meals on Wheels program. She is survived by four sons: George (Judy), Richard (Julie), William (Linda), and Mark (Linda) of Lyons; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Nancy) Eckert, of Rochester; aunt, Clara Schindler; sister-in-law Irma (Chester) Bastian; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by husband, Otto T. on December 4, 2001, and brothers, Harold (Elizabeth) Eckert, Howard (Jean) Eckert. Luckenbach, Richard - Richard M. Luckenbach, 84, of Sodus, died February 24, 2004. Richard was a member of Sodus United Third Methodist Church, and a WWII veteran of the Army - 108th Infantry. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette; children Susan Barbosa of Lyons, and Karl (Tammy) Luckenbach of Sodus; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, family and friends. Mancuso, Teresa - Teresa C. Mancuso, 99, died February 12, 2004 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Teresa was born Dec., 23, 1904, in Italy, daughter of Paul and Mary Pignatone Colosi. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her beloved sons, Peter (Erma) Mancuso and Vincent (Mary Jane), both of Newark; a daughter, Mary (Gordon) Harris of Taylorville, NC; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; cousins and friends. She was predeceased in 1963 by her husband Fred.

Underhill, Charles - Charles S. Underhill, 90, of Alexandria, VA, died February 7, 2004. A private memorial service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo. Underhill was a graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and served as librarian in Corning, before moving to Newark. He was first man to be appointed to the position of librarian since the Newark Library was chartered in 1896. He served as Newark's librarian from 1958 through 1965, leaving to take a position with the University of Buffalo. He is survived by two sons, Charles I. and James R. Underhill; daughter-in-law Tracy S. Underhill; brother Walter N. Underhill. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret M. (Riley) Underhill, brother Irving Underhill, and sister Ruth Ann (Underhill) Armstrong.

Eggleston, Barbara - Barbara Ann Eggleston, RN, 64, of Newark died February 18, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Barb was born January 9, 1940 in Rochester to the late Walter R. and Anne B. Mileski Kreger. She worked for Genesee Hospital for several years and recently at Canandaigua VA Hospital as a nurse. Barb was a bowler and enjoyed gardening, reading and loved animals. Barb is survived by her daughters, Susan Eggleston of Florida, Deanna (Terry) Crooks of Newark, Wendy (Michael) McDermott of Clifton Springs; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother Matthew Kreger of California, sister Susanne (Douglas) Heath of Scottsburg; nieces and nephews.

DeFisher, Raymond - Raymond DeFisher, 90, of Ontario, died February 14, 2004. He was retired from the East Rochester Car Shops and Wayne Central School District. He is survived by two sons, Norris (Sandy) DeFisher of Gates, LaVerne DeFisher of Texas; a brother, Leon DeFisher of California; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Whittleton DeFisher. Spring interment will be in the Marion Cemetery.

Mesleyn, Laura - Laura L. Mesleyn, 86, of Arkansas, formerly of Newark, died February 10, 2004. Laura was born May 21, 1917, in Ontario, Canada, to Joseph and Margaret Mitchell Helmuth. She had farmed with her husband for many years in the Newark area. She had been a communicant of St. Michael Church in Newark before moving to Mountain Home, Arkansas. Interment will be in Fairville Cemetery. She is survived by a son, Roger (Donna) Mesleyn of Lyons; a daughter, Dorothy (James) Wheeler of Mountain Home, Ark.; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1993 by her husband, William, by a sister, Martha Turner, and a brother, Thomas Helmuth.

Branciforte, Samuel 'Sammy' - Samuel A. 'Sammy' Branciforte, 92, of Lake Boulevard, Seneca Falls, died February 12, 2003 at Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo. Sammy was born February 23, 1911, in Sicily, the son of Salvatore and Sarah Cuccinello Branciforte. He was a life resident of Seneca Falls, where he had owned and operated Sammy's Barber Shop for many years, working side by side with his son, Bob. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Seneca Falls and was an avid bowler for many years. Interment will be in St. Columbkille Cemetery. He is survived by one daughter, Dolores (Thomas) Shear of Lyons; one son, Robert (Louise) Branciforte of Seneca Falls; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Ann Fridley of Laurel, Md.; one brother; James Branciforte of Seneca Falls; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane DeMaria Branciforte, who died Dec. 13, 1998.

Lapresi, Eleanor - Mary 'Eleanor' Lapresi, 79, of Clifton Springs, died February 15, 2004. Eleanor was born September 5, 1924 in Newark to Joseph and Mary V. Bramante. She was a lifelong resident of Clifton Springs. Eleanor and husband Francis sold flowers in the summer and Christmas trees in the winter at their home. She is survived by her sons, Frank Lapresi of Clifton Springs and Dominic Lapresi of Rochester; a brother, Donald Bramante of Washington, DC; a sister, Lorraine Austin of Newark; 2 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis D. Lapresi in 2000. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

Gittens, Robert Jr. - Robert W. Gittens Jr., 56, of Phelps, died February 14, 2004. Bob was born September 24, 1947, in Cortland. He retired from Goulds Pumps after service as a security guard. He was an avid outdoorsman, award-winning artist and woodcarver. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail; sons, William Gittens of Waterloo and James Gittens of Corning; a daughter, Catherine Dietschler of Lyons; his parents, Robert and Mary Gittens; three brothers, William Clyde Gittens of Johnson City, Steve Gittens of Lyons and Jack John Gittens of Geneva; two sisters, Susan Goodman of Waterloo and Jean (Jim) George of Hammondsport; eight grandchildren: many adopted children and grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Allen, Alfred - Alfred E. Allen, 75, of DeMay Living Center, formerly of Rose, died February 15, 2004. Alfred was born February 3,1929 in Tupper Lake, to Carl and Exilda Quinty Allen. He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Viola Allen of Sodus and Florence Allen of Clyde; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Morris, Hosanna and Edward; and three sisters, Hazel, Ethel and Celia. Spring burial will be in York Settlement Cemetery in Huron.

Van De Mortel, Paul - Paul B. Van De Mortel, 86, of Phelps, died February 16, 2004 at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Paul was born August 28,1917, in Phelps, to Benjamin and Mary Van De Mortel. He graduated from Clifton Springs High School and the Navy School of Music in Washington, DC. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a rural mail carrier for many years and retired in 1973 from the United States Post Office. A lifelong musician, he played the tuba and string bass in the Navy, and string bass in 'The Hi-Fi Four' for many years. He is survived by two sons, Donald (Ruth) Wilson and John (Mary) Wilson; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and very special friends, Wendy and Sean Cowan and their children. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Bohner, Frederick 'Bud' - Frederick M. 'Bud' Bohner, 78, of Lyons died February 17, 2004. Bud was a farmer, seed dealer and equipment dealer for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Antique Tractor Club, Finger Lakes Two Cylinder Club, Farm Bureau, and Dairy Herd Improvement Assn. He is survived by his wife Ann, brother Bruce (Gail) Wiscon, nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary.

Simpson, William 'Bill' - William Simpson, 88, of Newark, died February 18, 2004. Bill was born November 7, 1915 in Elm Creek, son of Charles and Edna Courter Simpson. He had a special interest in farms, animals, planting and tractors. Bill will be missed by a his special friend and volunteer Ina Benton of Newark and other friends at Finger Lakes DDSO. Glerum, Liz - Elizabeth 'Liz' Emma Glerum, 89, died February 5, 2004 at her Newark home. Elizabeth was born January 24, 1915 in the Town of Arcadia, daughter of the late Isaac and Emma Woodhams Tack. She was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church for many years. She enjoyed bowling and golf. Two weeks ago, she was in Florida with all five daughters for her 89th birthday and played nine holes of golf. Mrs. Glerum will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law Barbara and Richard Gutschow of Newark, Marie and Larry Packer of Pennsylvania, Dorothy and James Sergeant of Sodus, Grace and Edmond Leisenring of Sodus, and Marjorie Pratt of Florida; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Linda Roberts of Sodus; sisters Anna Mortimer and Irene Pulver; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1980 by her husband Peter Glerum; son Edward Glerum in 1974; son-in-law Bernard Pratt in 1992. Spring interment will be in the Fairville Cemetery.

DeBlaere, Betty - Betty Mae DeBlaere, 88, of Newark, died February 8, 2004 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Betty Mae was born February 5, 1916 in Phelps, daughter of Charles and Bessie Gleason Case. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and member of the American War Dads Auxiliary. She is survived by two daughters, Diane (Robert) VanWaes of Shortsville, Judy (Leslie) Garner of Lyons; a son Dennis (Libby) of Newark; nine grandchildren - Kevin, Karen and Kyle Clark, Tami Knapp, Tracey Kozlowski, Marci DeBlaere, Sara Pietrzak, Kate and Andrew Garner; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters - Nellie Fitch of Newark, Rose (Ed) Fitch of Newark, Edith Ryan of Clyde; three brothers - Robert (Eleanor) Case of Palmyra, Donald (Marcy) Case of Oswego, and Leon (Beverly) Case of Newark. She was predeceased in 1968 by her husband William, sister Blanche Beman, and five brothers: Harold, Bernard, Francis, Lloyd and John Case. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Blankenburg, Alyce - Alyce H. Blankenburg, 65, of Newark, died February 4, 2003. Alyce was born February 20,1938, in North Rose, a daughter to Evelyn and Mary Messenger Drury. She was employed for 22 years at the New York Telephone Co. in Newark before its closing and later by Parker-Hannifin in Clyde. She is survived by her husband, Stanley; two sisters, June (Lee) Blake of Clyde and Mary Lou VanHoff of Nevada; a brother, Lynn (Pat) Drury of Red Creek; three brothers-in-law, Roger (Millie) Blankenburg of Clyde, William (Frances) Blankenburg of Florida, Samuel Ekkebus of Sodus; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Sawyer of Williamson and Madelyn Blankenburg of Savannah; nieces and nephews. Phillips, Joan - Joan D. Phillips, 63, of Newark, died February 5 at Newark Hospital. Joan was born May 30, 1940, in Sanford, Florida, to Malcolm and Thelma Weinman Phillips. She worked at NAFCO in Newark and at Newark State School. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries of Newark and Palmyra Moose. She is survived by two sons, Carl Mobbs of Gulfport, Florida and Michael (Kimberly) Luebbert of Newark; a daughter, Diana Mobbs (George) Mitchell of Newark; four grandchildren.

Shanley, John - John R. 'Jack' Shanley of Pittsford, died February 4, 2004. He was predeceased by his son, Shawn Shanley. He is survived by his wife, Doris Shanley; sons, Deacon Patrick (Jeanne) Shanley, Owen (Debbie) Shanley of Newark; daughter, Kathy (Brian) Pancoast; stepson, William (Martha) Webb; step-daughter, Jasmin Webb; one granddaughter, seven grandsons and four brothers. Jack was a Korean War veteran and a retired postmaster.

Austin, Rodney - Rodney E. 'Hap' Austin, 75, of Marion, died February, 10, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital. Rodney was born on December 24, 1928 in Marion, to Ralph and Gertrude Goosen Austin. He was a 1947 graduate of Marion High School and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Hap was proud to be a member of the Marion Memorial Post #1430 of the American Legion for more than 45 years. Hap and the former Marion Sindinski were married August 22, 1959 in St. Gregory's Church in Marion. He is survived by his wife; by his daughter Carolyn Austin, sons David and Paul Austin, grandsons Jeffrey Steiner II and Michael Steiner.

Stewart, Harold - Harold W. Stewart, 84, of Lyons, died February 8, 2004. He is survived by his brother, Benson (Dorothy) Stewart of Lyons; sister, Lucille Tilburg of Newark; nieces and nephews; special friend, Janette Renzi, and many friends in Lyons. Fisher, Albert - Albert Nelson Fisher, 53, of Newark, died February 9, 2004 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Canandaigua. Al was born November 12, 1950, in Sodus, son of Chester and Sarah VanDerVelder Fisher. He was a self-employed construction worker. He served in Vietnam from 1970-72. He is survived by two sons, Jeffery and Douglas, both of Denver; three sisters, June (John) Shultz of Newark, Betty (Ed) DeWolf of Newark; and Alberta Fisher of Palmyra; a brother, David (Pat) Fisher of Newark; his ex-wife, Sharon of Denver; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hammond, Anthony - Anthony Juan Hammond, 53, of Phelps, died February 10. Anthony was born July 22, 1950 in Syracuse. He had worked at Garlock Co. of Palmyra and Tyco Co. in Macedon. He had lived in Clifton Springs, Phelps and Newark. He is survived by five daughters: Jennifer Hammond and Christina Hammond of Newark; Antonia M. (Jason) Carney of Phelps; Ella R. McDowell, Ida - Ida Lee McDowell, 86, of Sodus, died January 31, 2004. She is survived her daughter, Mary Ann Avazian of Suffern; son, Lee McDowell of Gainsville, Florida; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and long-time friend, William Aurand of Clyde. Ida grew up near Alton and lived with her husband Russell McDowell on a farm on South Geneva Road until his death on February 5, 1974. Services are being planned for the spring. Napierala, Edward - Edward B. Napierala, Jr., 72, of Palmyra, died peacefully February 9, 2004, at Newark Hospital. Freeland, Matthew - Matthew T. Freeland, 5, of Marion, died suddenly on January 28, 2004. He is survived by his loving parents, Bob and Kelli Freeland; grandparents, Priscilla Freeland, Norm and Sylvia Cuvelier; great-grandparents Helen and Earle Carpenter; aunts, Jody (Scott) Camp, Marti Cuvelier, Lilli (Randy) Cleveland, Carol Freeland and Betty Penrith; and several cousins. Matthew loved racing his Hummer and playing his Playstation, computer, playing with friends and family, listening to his tapes, and reading his books.

DeVoogt, Robert - Robert W. DeVoogt, 63, of Williamson, died suddenly on January 27, 2004. Retired from coaching and teaching in the Williamson School District, he was a sports writer for the Williamson Sun and Record for eight years, member of the Pultneyville Reformed Church, active community member. Purdy, Janice - Janice Kay Purdy, 62, of Lyons, died January 27, 2004 from injuries sustained in a car accident. Janice was born October 1, 1941 to Irving A. and Lucille Gilfilian Smith. She was employed by Wayne ARC. She is survived by her husband, Charles; her children, Dusten Barry of Mississippi, Randy Purdy of Seneca Falls, Tracey Purdy of Florida; a step-daughter, Nancy Purdy of Phelps; three sisters, Marsha Skyner of Mississippi, Donna DeFee and Linda Martin of Alabama; one brother, Irving Smith of Alabama; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her step-son, Leon Purdy.

McCall, Anya - Anya L. McCall, 60, of Newark, died January 25, 2004. Anya came to Wolcott Central School in 1960 as an exchange student. She is survived by her husband, Terry; a daughter, Lisa (Paul) Johnson of Newark; a son, Terry Jr. of Newark; and grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, and Emily Johnson, all of Newark.

Wojtkiewicz, Aleksander - Aleksander Marian 'Alex' Wojtkiewicz, 80, of Newark died January 22, 2004 at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Aleksander was born August 8, 1923 in Holubicze, Poland, to Aleksander and Jadwiga Boraczewska Wojtkiewicz. He came to the United States in 1950 and found work at Hallagan Mfg. Co., from which he retired in 1989 after 36 years of service. He enjoyed reading books and newspapers, gardening and bird feeding. Mr. Wojtkiewicz will be missed by his wife of 44 years, Lucja Bryla Wojtkiewicz; son Peter Wojtkiewicz (Voyt) of Newark; many nieces and nephews in the United States and in Poland. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Interment at East Newark Cemetery.

Serens, Winifred - Winifred R. Serens, 88, of Newark, died January 24, 2004 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. She was born August 2, 1915 in Ulysses, PA, to Robert and Hazel Merritt Burt. She was a 1934 graduate of Newark High School. She worked at Stott's Dry Cleaners and J.C. Penney Department Store, before retiring (1982) from the Newark Developmental Center, where she was a clinical nurse. She is survived by her son, Frederick (Vera) Serens, and two daughters, Linda Williams and Mary Kay (Bernard) Colacino, all of Newark; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (James) Davis of Eureka, California and Nancy (William) Tanea of Newark; a great friend, Maxine Pulver, and many other special friends. She was predeceased by her daughter Suzanne, granddaughter Stacy Colacino, and brother Duffer Burt. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

DeBoerdere, Betty - Betty DeBoerdere, 72, of Newark, died January 21, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Jason) Colvin of Virginia Beach and Lisa (Dave) Blankenberg of Newark; sons, Scott (Nancy) of Waterloo and Jamie (Theresa) of Newark; sisters, Romaine Bliss of Marion, Sally (Don) Goebert of Marion, Penny (Mark) O'Connor of Newark; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Palmyra Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Burkhard, Ronald - Ronald J. Burkhard, Sr., 64, of Lyons, died suddenly January 22, 2004. He is survived by his daughter Deborah (Reid) Carpentier of Florida; two sons, Ronald (Jennifer) Burkhard, Jr., of Ohio and Gary (Betsy) Burkhard of Phelps; five grandchildren; two sisters, Beatrice (Daniel) Corcoran, Jr. of Greece and June (Jack) Spencer of Rochester; a brother, Nelson Burkhard.

VanHall, Katherine - Katherine V. (Vermeulen) VanHall, 96, of Williamson, died January 22, 2004. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Bernard Welker of Ontario; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Jozina Leenhouts of Sodus, Lavina (John) Sonneville of Williamson; brothers Albert (Millie) Vermeulen of Rochester, Ernest (Thelma) Vermeulen of FL; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1987 by her husband, Addison VanHall. Interment in Ridge Chapel Cemetery, Williamson.

Hart, Kathryn - Kathryn L. (Tyler) Hart, 84, of Waterloo/Lyons, died January 24, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Kathryn was born September 17, 1919 in Clifton Springs, to Fred and Anna Lake Tyler. She was the former owner of Ken & Kay's Luncheonette in Clyde, and Kay's Bible Book Store in Lyons. She retired from the Newark State School in 1979. She attended the New Life Assembly of God Church in Lyons, and was the coordinator for the Krafter's Boutique for many years. Interment will be in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Betty) Hart of Pittsford, Lynford (Donna) Hart of Pennsylvania, Floyd (Nancy) Hart of Missouri; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; good friends, Nancy Smith and family. She was predeceased in 1970 by her husband, Kenneth, and a brother, Floyd Tyler.

Blankenberg, Dick - Richard E. (Dick) Blankenberg, 57, formerly of Newark/Sodus, died suddenly on January 24, 2004. A memorial service will be held in the spring. Dick is survived by his wife, Nora; a daughter, Christy; a son, Richard II; his mother Mina; two sisters, Cynthia (Keith) Rising and Caren (Eugene) Van Opdorp; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walker, Anna - Anna Walker, 63, of Canandaigua, died January 25, 2004 at F.F. Thompson Hospital, with her family by her side. Anna was born June 24, 1940 in Romulus, to Grant and Grace Kenne Utter. She had worked many years for American Can Company, and Hallagan Mfg. Co. for 17 years, retiring in June 2002. She enjoyed sewing, QVC Shopping, Pontoon boating and the Flea Market. She is survived by her sons Steven (Sherri), Keith (Kim) and Larry (Betty) Walker; daughters Elaine (George) Blaisdell and Becky (Gary) Zehr; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her parents Grant and Grace Utter; step-children Christopher King, Donna Taylor and Judy (Kenny) Stevenson; several step-grandchildren; brother Ronald Utter; sisters Marian (Dallis) Gable, Lila (Roy) Edminster and Debi Albro; many nieces and nephews; a special pal Teddy-Bud. She was predeceased by her son James Walker in 1980 and a special friend Dale King in 2000. Arrangements by Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. A funeral service will be held Friday (Jan. 30) at the funeral home at 11 o'clock with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Spring interment will be at Palmyra Cemetery.

VanDerMeere Stephen and Amy - Stephen R. VanDerMeere, 34, and Amy C. VanDerMeere, 33, of Shortsville, died January 24, 2004 after a car accident. They are survived by their six-year-old daughter, Alexis; Amy's parents, Lloyd and Donna Collett of Shortsville; Stephen's parents, Robert and Linda VanDerMeere of Marion; Stephen's grandparents, Lester and Pat DeFisher; Stephen's sister, Laurie (Michael) Wright; and one nephew; Amy's brothers, Steven, Todd (Laurie), Kevin (Marie), and Jason (Sara) Collett; Amy's sisters, Karen Collett and Susan (Charles) Coons; Amy's grandmother, Blanche Collett; and several nieces and nephews. Amy was a graduate of Red Jacket Central School and was employed by Ontario County ARC. Stephen graduated from Marion High School, attended VOPRO, and was employed by G.W. Lisk in Clifton Springs. He was a Captain of Citizens Hose Company in Shortsville.

Record, Margery - Margery Lois DeLooze Record, 70, of Asheboro, North Carolina, died January 23, 2004. A memorial service will be held in New York. Margery was a Catholic, and a native of Phelps. She formerly owned and operated Village Florist in Clifton Springs and was formerly employed with Fashion Fabrics in Asheboro. She is survived by her husband Myrle Record; a son, Kelly Record, at home; a daughter, Shelley Dutton of Alexandria, Virginia; four grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Bowman of Seneca Castle, Eleanor Brignall of Phelps, and Virginia Rolan of Newark; and three brothers, Thomas DeLooze of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, James DeLooze of West Virginia, and Butch DeLooze of Willard.

Potter, James - James Francis Potter, 58, of Arcadia, died January 27, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Jim was born December 17, 1945 in Clifton Springs, to the late James and Beatrice Preston Potter. He was employed at Tyco Corp. in Macedon as a C-Operator for 37 years. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting, and enjoying a Labatt's beer. He was a member of the Newark VFW Post 2883, Newark American Legion Post 286, the Rod and Gun Club in Newark and Lyons and the Palmyra Moose Lodge No. 1420. The Army Flag in honor of his four years of service during the Vietnam War. Potter is survived by his wife, Georgetta Fingar Potter; daughters Tammy (Jeff) Custer and Pennie (Larry) Webber; four grandchildren; brothers Paul Potter, George Rouse, Roger Rouse, and Kevin Rouse; sisters Patricia Howard, Donna Debuyser, Mary Wheatons and Bonnie Carter; sister-in-law Rose Rugg, mother-in-law Leta Sprague, several in-laws, nieces and nephews; Godson Anthony Thomas James Rugg; many friends and co-workers. Jim was predeceased by two children, Pamela and Howard. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua.

Pierce, Harold - Harold C. Pierce, 84, died January 27, 2004. He was an Eastman Kodak retiree and member of Grace United Methodist Church of Rochester. He is survived by his wife, Lila (VanHall) Pierce; son, Ronald (Kathy) Pierce of Rochester; daughter, Carla (Danny) O'Donnell of Rochester; four grandchildren; sister, Agatha Jansen of Newark; nieces and nephews. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Knight, Gus - Gus Knight, of Sodus, died January 26, 2004, at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, five children, six step-children, three brothers, one sister and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Slocum, Carlton Jr. - Carlton J. Slocum Jr., 29, of Sodus, died suddenly on January 26, 2004. He was predeceased in 1976 by his father, Carlton Sr. He is survived by his mother, Kim (George) Reithel of Sodus; three sisters, Wanda (Tim) Barnhart; Cathy (Tony) Fiordeliso and Ann Marie Slocum (Michael Victorious); two nieces, three nephews; fiancee Tina Wilfred; several aunts, uncles, step-brothers and sisters, and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany in Sodus. Interment will be in Furnaceville Cemetery, Ontario.

Klossner, Evelyn - Evelyn Klossner, 91, of Syracuse/Newark, died January 23, 2004 in Syracuse. She was the daughter of Frederick and Sarah Haynes Dudden. Born in Elmira, Evelyn Klossner was a graduate of Albany State Teachers College and was librarian and teacher in Newark, Constableville and Hannibal. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newark and the Newark Country Club. She moved to Lakeland Florida in 1971. She moved to Syracuse in 2003 to be near her relatives, including Faye Dudden of Syracuse, Lorraine and Paula Dudden of Camillus and Hervey Forward of Elbridge. Services will be in the spring in Constableville. She is survived by her son Michael Klossner of Little Rock Arkansas. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolf and daughter Patricia.

Dyson-Arnitz Barbara - Barbara Dyson-Arnitz, 61, formerly of Newark, died January 14, 2004 at Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, after a battle with cancer. Barbara was born May 20, 1942 in Clifton Springs, daughter of Fred and Lucille Wiebeld Dyson. She was retired from New York Telephone, now Verizon, where she worked 28 years as a rep. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and her flower garden. She will be missed by her husband, Peter A. Arnitz; daughters, Vikki Quagliarello and friend, Michael Rowland of Cicero, Teri (Chris) Takamura of Maui, Hawaii; two step-children, James (Chris) Arnitz of Clyde, Lynda (Kevin) Quinn of Watertown; a sister, Mary (Ed) Miner of Victor; three grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, and grandmother, Mary Wiebeld.

Jansen, Abe - Abraham 'Abe' C. Jansen, 86, of Newark, died January 16, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Abe was born Dec. 16, 1918, in Holland, the son of Abraham and Janna Vankouvenberg Jansen. He had served in the military in Holland. He was a self-employed contractor and builder and had a great love for woodworking. Abe was a member of the Newark Grange, Newark Senior Citizens and St. Michael Church, where he helped with the rummage sales. He is survived by his wife Marie Canne Jansen; two daughters, Annie Pieters and Jenny Wahl of Newark; three grandchildren, Roxanne (Darren) Cowles, Mark (Michelle) Pieters and Scott (Laura) Pieters; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery.

Torres, Jose - Jose Torres, 38, of Newark and Tucson, died January 9, 2004 in Arizona. Jose was born January 3, 1966 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, the son of Jose and Anna Torres Rodriguez. He is survived by his son Jose and daughter Meranda; mother Ana Lopez of Newark; brothers Ramon DeJesus of Lyons, Modesto Lopez and Jose Carlos Reyes both of New York City; sisters Jossie (Oscar) Fontanez of Newark, Rosaura Santiago of Massachusetts, and Mirna Rios of Puerto Rico; many nieces and nephews. Jose was predeceased by his father Jose and sister Ramona Benitez. Interment will be in the East Newark Cemetery.

Zaborowski, Gladys Gilbert - Gladys R. (Gilbert) Zaborowski, 70, of Newark, died January 17, 2004 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. Gladys was born February 13, 1933 in Williamsville, to Reinhard and Evelyne (Delke) Stipke. She was a long-time resident of Newark. She retired from Wegmans as deli manager in 1974. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Zaborowski of Newark; one son, Robert (Julie) Gilbert, Jr.; five daughters, Bette Jane (Roger) Moses of California; Barbara (Robert) Vickery, Beverly (Stephen) Hotchkiss, Betsy (Nicholas) Americo and Bonnie (John) Bergfjord, all of Newark; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, June and Frank Abraham of Akron, NY; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1973 by her first husband, Robert Gilbert, Sr.; her mother, Evelyne Stipke in 1974; her father, Reinhard Stipke in 1981; her sister, Noreen Schinsing in 1998; and her son, Rick Gilbert in 2003.

Weeks, William Seward - William Seward Weeks, 85, died January 6, 2004 in Brunswick, Maine following an illness. He was born March 28, 1919 in Lyons, to Clarence and Mabel Gavitt Weeks. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1937 and received a BA in 1941 from Princeton University, where he majored in Philosophy. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1947 he wed Margaret Conway of Lockport, and they resided in Newark where Seward worked for Stotts Laundry and Dry Cleaning. After moving to Corning in 1957, he began a career with Corning Glass Works, serving as a Production Superintendent and Plant Manager before being named Director of Corporate Safety and Hygiene. He retired in 1982. The family spent summers at their cottage on Keuka Lake, where Seward enjoyed his lifelong passion for sailing and in the winter he enjoyed skiing. Margaret died in 1989. In 1993 Seward married Florence Cousins Worster, formerly of Painted Post. The couple resided in North Carolina until 1999, when they moved to Maine, spending summers in Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island and winters in Topsham. Seward's love for sailboats continued and he sailed frequently in the waters of Southwest Harbor. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Nancy Weeks Singham, sons William S. Weeks, Jr. and Douglas R.Weeks; stepsons Arthur Worster and Larry Worster and stepdaughter Mary Lou Anderson; brothers Robert Weeks of Newark and John Weeks of Cambridge, NY, and sister Susan Weeks Stott of Trumansburg; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A service will be held in Corning, and his ashes buried at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammondsport.

Jaeger, Hans - Hans E. Jaeger, Jr., 60, of Albany, died January 14, 2004 at the Albany Medical Center. He resided on the White Creek Road with his wife Beth (Peterson) Jaeger. He was born March 27, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Hans E. and Evelyn (Thomas) Jaeger. Hans graduated from St. Louis University, Parks College for Aeronautical Administration. He also received a Master's degree in Business from the University of San Diego. He retired from the United States Navy as a Lt. Commander on September 30, 1990. Hans enjoyed sharing his time with his wife Beth. They had a love for nature, and the camp they were building in the Adirondacks. Hans had many interests including antique canoes, rebuilding old cars, woodworking, cats which he used to breed as well as show. His high point of his Navy career was time spent as a member of the Antartica Support Squadron. Hans spent many hours curling and competing with friends at the Albany Curling Club. He is survived by his wife Beth, his mother Evelyn (Thomas) Jaeger; two sons, Kirk and Eric Jaeger; one brother Thomas (Carolyn) Jaeger of Rochester, New York; a niece and nephew, great-niece and great-nephew. Interment will be in Newark.

Mancuso, Anthony - Anthony J. Mancuso, 75, died January 19, 2004 at his home in Wheaton, Maryland. He was retired after 45 years as an industrial photographer at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. Survivors include his sister, Mary T. Mancuso of Newark, and several cousins and friends.

Meyer, Helen - Helen E. Meyer, 88, of North Rose, died January 15, 2004. Helen was born September 7, 1915 in the Town of Huron, to James and Bertha-Heck Gallagher. She retired from Myers Hospital in Sodus as a dietitian. She was predeceased by her husband Earl, daughter Patricia Hartley, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughters, Judy (James) Lauster, Nancy (Michael) Cook, and son-in-law, Donald Hartley; eight grandchildren, Gretchen (Robert) Grevell, Cheryl Lauster, Stephen (Jenna) Cook, Stacy (John) VanCamp, Lora (Phillip) Reed, Jeffery (Sheri) Hartley, Kimberly (Gordon) Brown, Daniel (Tina) Hartley; seventeen great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Huron Cemetery.

Landschoot, William - William L. Landschoot, 66, of Clifton Springs, died January 15, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Bill was born December 11, 1937, in Clifton Springs, to the late August and Evelyn Landschoot. He was a 1955 graduate of Clifton Springs High School and served in the Navy from 1955-59. He retired from the Clifton Springs Post Office, where he served as Postmaster from 1983-97. Bill was a member of the board of education for 15 years and a volunteer with Clifton Springs Fire Department. He was o a member of the Jaycees and past member of the board of directors of the YMCA. He is survived by his wife Jean; son, Mark (Sandra) Landschoot of Clemmons, NC; daughter, Cheri (Mark) Gangarossa of Clifton Springs; four grandchildren; brothers, Pete Landschoot and August Landschoot, Jr.; nieces, nephews and dear friends. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery.

DeBuyser, David - David E. DeBuyser, 61, of Wolcott, died January 18, 2004. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Dorothy and Emiel DeBuyser, and by his wife, Alice. David is survived by his daughter, Charlene (Dan) Woods of Virginia; three grandchildren; sister, Jean DeBuyser of Florida; brothers, James (Peggy) DeBuyser of California, Marvin (Jan) of Sodus Point, Larry (Donna) of Syracuse and Frank (Pat) of Macedon.

Herrmann, Joyce - Joyce C. Herrman, 82, of Canandaigua, died January 20, 2004. She is survived by her son, the Rev. David B. (Cynthia) Herrmann of Palmyra; two grandsons, James D. (Renee) Herrmann of Macedon and Mathew Y. (Melissa) Herrmann of Canandaigua; two great-grandsons, Joshua James Herrmann and Robert William Herrmann both of Macedon; one brother, Maurice (Dons) Furman of CA; several nieces and nephews. Fabrizi, Elizabeth - Elizabeth Clementine Fabrizi, 94, of Clifton Springs, died January 18, 2004. Stock, George - George T. Stock, 57, of Rushville, died January 19, 2004 at his home on South Main Street. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 on Saturday, January 24 at the United Methodist Church, 22 N. Main Street, Rushville, where funeral services will follow at 11. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Dundee. George was born in Potter, Pennsylvania on August 3, 1946, the son of Francis and Ethel Badmone Stock. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. George is survived by many friends and a cousin, Freida Badmone of Dundee.

Santelli, Evelyn - Evelyn Santelli, 86, died January 21, 2004. She is survived by sons Frank A. Palermo, Anthony - Anthony 'Tony' Palermo, 81, of Newark, died January 9, 2004 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Tony was born Feb. 18, 1922, in Newark, son of Anthony and Marion Tavano Palermo. After graduating from Newark High School in 1941, Tony began work as a carver and designer at Hallagan Furniture in Newark. He was in the Army, serving in the Philippines during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. After the war, he returned to Hallagan's and in 1967 became the plant manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. Tony was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of the August Mauer American Legion Post 286, the Arcadia Memorial VFW Post 2886, the Newark Elks Lodge 1249 and the Newark Country Club. He is survived by Jane, his wife of 56 years; three daughters: Jayne (Donald) Ward of Sayre, PA; Lorrie (John) Sorensen of Palmyra; Carol (John) Wilck of Franklin, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Anthony and Lorrie Ward, Joanna, Jennifer and Johnna Sorensen, Adam and Amanda Wilck; four brothers: Paul (Nancy), Frank (Betty), John (Eleanor) and Cosmo (Phyllis) Palermo, all living in Newark; a sister, Rose Marie (Gary) LaLonde of Auburn; sister-in-law, Iona Palermo of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Rocco; and two sisters, Josephine 'Babe' Craver and Catherine 'Kay' Palermo.

Peters, Jeffrey - Jeffrey Thomas Peters, 49, of Newark and Sodus, died January 8, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and children, Robert and Patrice, of Sodus; his children in Newark - Emily, Lucas and Jeffrey Peters; two grandchildren, Arianna and Jayden of Newark; six brothers and sisters: William (Marian) Peters of California, Elizabeth Bouchard of Florida, Gerald (Judy) Peters of Clyde, John (Linda) Peters of Newark, Kathy Lamphear of Florida, Sheri (Bill) Whyte of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Lester and Helen Fitzgerald Peters; and a brother, James Peters.

Facer, Russell - Russell B. Facer, 87, of Newark, died January 7, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. He was born April 23, 1916 in Phelps, to Arthur and Clara Buisch Facer. A graduate of Lyons Central in 1933, he was employed by Eastman Kodak in Rochester. He returned to farming when his father, Arthur, died in 1941. He subsequently owned and managed the three generation Facer Farms from 1941 to 1991. Facer served on the boards of Phelps Cooperative Service, Sterling Cooperative, Wayne County Farm Bureau, Eastgate Youth for Christ, and Phelps Town Board of Appeals Planning Commission. He was a member of the Eureka Grange for over 55 years, president of the Palmyra Local of the Dairymen's League and secretary of the Canning Crops Growers Cooperative, Inc. of Wayne County. He was a founding member of the Wayside Chapel, a worship center for farm laborers, which he helped construct in 1954 in Phelps. He was a member of the Gideons International and a Calvary Church in Newark. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Evans Facer; three daughters: Marcia (William) Bunnell of California, Nancy (Henry) Abbink of Canandaigua; Susan (Mark) Facer-Kreidler of Getzville; son David Facer of Newark; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother Glenn (Mary) Facer of Lyons; two sisters Mildred Housel of Florida and Janice Gabrielse of Lyons. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister Hazel Oakleaf.

Santelli, Anthony - Anthony G. Santelli, 90, of Newark, died January 11, 2004 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Anthony was born November 17, 1913, in Newark, son of Samuel and Mary Bilotta Santelli. He was an electrician and supervisor of maintenance and engineering at Rochester General Hospital. He is survived by his sons, Ronald of Newark and Gerard (Katherine) of Massachusetts; five grandchildren; a sister, Carmen Buttaccio of Lockport; a brother, Lewis (Genevieve) of Newark; a sister-in-law, Mary Santelli of Lyons; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Connie, a brother, Richard and sister, Margeritte. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Engert, Floyd - Floyd F. Engert, 75, of Newark, died January 8, 2004. Floyd was born August 30, 1928, in Clifton Springs, the son of Floyd and Edna Wesley Engert. He retired in 1992 from the Wayne Drug Warehouse after 43 years of service, last as the supervisor. Floyd was a member and past exalted ruler of the Newark Elks Lodge 1249. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Air Corps in Panama, and member of August Mauer American Legion Post 286. He is survived by his wife Frances; a daughter, Susan Reece of Clifton Springs; two sons, Floyd 'Bob' (Brenda) Engert of Walworth and John William (Melanie) Engert of Victor; nine grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Carol Cochrane of Palmyra and Vivian Crawford of Canandaigua; several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Spring, with military honors at Riverview Cemetery.

Denosky, Charles - Charles M. Denosky, Sr., 71, of Palmyra, died January 8, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. He was in the Air Force during the Korean War. Chuck is survived by his wife, Peg Nichols Denosky; sons Charles M. Denosky, Jr., Wayne Nichols and Neiti Nichols; daughter Denise Denosky; brother, Doyle Denosky; sisters, Ruby Raymer, Char Kommer and Sharon Empey; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson.

DeWeaver, Doris - Doris Edith DeWeaver, 79, of Newark, died January 14, 2004. Doris was born December 1, 1924 in Palmyra, to William and Edith (DeCracker) VerPlank. She attended in her earlier years the Second Reformed Church of Marion. She is survived by her husband Bernard (Bernie); two sons, Donald (Sheri) of Syracuse and Doug (Nancy) of Newark; a daughter, Diane (Jim) DeMent of Lexington, KY; a sister, Eleanor Nevil of Marion; brother, Elmer VerPlank of Palmyra; eight grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Spring burial will be in the East Palmyra Cemetery.

Acosta, Oscar Sr. - Oscar A. Acosta, Sr., 56, of Newark, died January 9, 2004. Oscar was born March 14, 1947, in Honduras, Central America, son of Alberto and Estelita Benitez Acosta. He was a machine operator for 20 years for Newark Florists. He is survived by two daughters, Miriam Gomez and Vanessa Acosta of Boston, Massachusetts; a son, Oscar Jr. of Newark; his mother, Estelita Benitez of Newark; two sisters, Yolanda Bueso of Newark, Norma Heym of Rochester; a brother, Luis Acosta of Newark; nieces and nephews; and five grandchildren. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Pratt, Edward - Edward M. Pratt, 46, of Savannah and East Rochester, died January 9, 2004. Ed was born September 18, 1957 in Lyons, son of Ashley and Vernice Yates Pratt. He was a member of square dancing clubs, the Swinging Singles, Clover Leaf Squares, and the Lilac Squares. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Carol Ann Fisher Pratt of East Rochester; devoted daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Wiggins; son, Marvin Walters; three brothers: David of Oakland, California, Frank of Port Isabelle, TX, and Vern of North Rose; three sisters: Lois Johnson of TX, Star Thomas of Bloomfield, and Robin Castle of Gorham; five grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Spring interment will be in the Fairville Cemetery.

Moshier, Sandra - Sandra Moshier, 59, of Clifton Springs, died January 10, 2004 after a short illness, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Sandy was born Oct. 28, 1944 in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Carl and Margaret Mains. She was a homemaker, avid Bingo player and loved to crochet. She is survived by her husband Henry 'Hank' Moshier; two daughters, Tammy Moshier of Clifton Springs and Mary (Kevin) Williams of Newark; two granddaughters; brother, Earl; (Betty) Main of Clifton Springs; two sisters, Katie Sherman of Canandaigua and Judy (Donald) Foster of Palm Bay, FL; step-father, Charles Watts of Gates, NC; nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her father, Carl Main; mother, Margaret Main Watts; son. John; and brothers, Stephen and Gary.

Retan, Gail - Gail A. Retan, 61, of Palmyra, died January 13, 2004, at the House of John. Gail is survived by her daughter Shannon Retan, son Scott Retan and granddaughter Jordan Retan; step-sister Judy Bauer and sister-in-law Marie Webster. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis Webster and Harriet Galik; step-father Henry Galik; brother Richard Webster and nephew Robert Webster. Interment will be in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Hoeltzel, Robert L. - Arcadia Historian Robert Hoeltzel, 83, died January 4, 2004 at the Newark Hospital, after a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11 at Park Presbyterian Church, Newark, with the Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home in Newark. Village flags were lowered this week to half staff in Mr. Hoeltzel's memory. Bob was born April 1, 1920 in Newark, the son of Stephen P. and Esther (Baltzel) Hoeltzel. As a teenager, he worked in the Baltzel Soda and Candy Store, beside the Capitol Theatre. As a member of one of Newark's early families, Hoeltzel was exposed to what would become his lifetime passion, local history. After graduation from Newark High School, he attended Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, but was unable to complete his studies due to the depression. After WWII, he graduated from Marshall, with a major in history. He joined the Army in 1942 and served as a Sergeant Major in Charge of Personnel. He was in the 9th Tank Battalion. He earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. After his Army service, he took a position with Commercial Enterprises in their Home Decorators Unit in Newark, and in about 1960 he headed the personnel office at Sibley's in Rochester. He retired in 1983 from the NYS Labor Department in Newark. On August 1, 1991 he became Arcadia Town Historian, a job he dearly loved. He was a member of the Rochester Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Hoffman Foundation Board of Advisors in Wayne County for 21 years, and a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, as well as W.H.O., Wayne Historians Organization. In 1981, Hoeltzel won the Hoffman Award for his contributions to county history. Hoeltzel was a trustee of the Hoffman Foundation and a member of the Wayne County Historical Society for over 30 years, serving on its board of directors. Hoeltzel was a founding member of the Arcadia Historical Society, and usually was there Saturday afternoons to answer questions about Newark and Arcadia, or promote the sale of his book. He was one of several members instrumental in the acquisition of the former Christian Science Church for use as the history museum. He served on the boards of the Pioneer Library System and Wayne County Chapter American Red Cross. He was honored in 2002 by the village, and in 1998 and 2003 by the Chamber of Commerce. In 2000, he partnered with Eugene McClellan to produce a 215-page book titled Hometown History: Village of Newark & Town of Arcadia. They offered the book to the Arcadia Historical Society to be sold as a fundraiser. Nearly 400 copies of the book have been sold. Hoeltzel was a life member of the Presbyterian Church. Elected a ruling Elder of the church at age 28, he served five terms on the Session; served two terms as Church Trustee; and was a Deacon from 1985-91. He rang the Park church bell for years before it was automated and was an authority on church architecture. He was chairman of Together In Christ (TIC) ecumenical church group in the 1980's. He wrote and published The History of Park Presbyterian Church from 1825 to 1980. Robert Hoeltzel is survived by several cousins, including Bernice Ver Sluis and Kathy (James) Hollingsworth of Ontario, NY, Esther Baker of California, Robert Clark (Carol) Pardee of Virginia, and John Zornow of Newark.

Larson, Kenneth - Kenneth H. Larson, 83, formerly of Newark, died January 2, 2004 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan. Kenneth was born September 5, 1920 in Geneva, the son of Fred and Aura Congdon Larson. He was a tank mechanic during World War II, having served with the Army during the Battle of the Bulge. He owned and operated the Ken Larson Ford Dealership in Newark and later the Western Auto Store in Clyde. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Newark, past president of the Newark Lions Club and Newark Chamber of Commerce, member of the Newark Elks Lodge and the Newark Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Madeline of Geneva; sons, Dean of Akron, Ohio and Kenneth J. of Geneva; daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Darrer of Rochester and Linda Loose of Tucson, Arizona; step-daughter, Patricia (Donald) Tavano of Lansing, Michigan; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Armistice Wheeler, and brothers Allyn Larson and Wilmer Larson. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

VanHanegen, Sina - Sina VanHanegen, 88, of Newark, died January 4, 2004 at the Newark Hospital. Sina was born February 6, 1915 in MacDougall, the daughter of Marinus and Matilda Mahler Sorensen. She was a graduate of Waterloo High School. Mrs. VanHanegen worked for the Newark Developmental Center for 40 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Park Presbyterian Church, the Newark Garden Club, Antique Club of The Finger Lakes, American Legion Auxiliary Post 286 of Newark and the Arcadia Senior Citizens. She is survived by her step-children, Gerald (Lucy) VanHanegem of Fairville, Sylvia (Don) Hanagan of Newark, Abraham (Margaret) and Raymond (Barbara) VanHanegen both of Clifton Springs, and Sandra (Gary) Decker of Phelps; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Emma Lind of Waterloo; sister-in-law Gladys Sorensen of Waverly; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband Harvey Filkins in 1966, her second husband John VanHanegen in 1992; four brothers and two sisters. Interment will be in the spring at Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Perkins, Stuart - Stuart B. Perkins, 83, of Newark, died January 4, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Stuart was born April 9, 1920 in Boonville, son of Edward and Lanora McDougall Perkins. He was a 1940 graduate of Newark High School and served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and the Newark VFW. He enjoyed old movies, antiquing, football, tennis and watching the Buffalo Bills.He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Helen Goossen Perkins; daughters Julie (Barry) Federico of Newark, Pam (Agron) Quku of Newark; grandchildren Dr. Todd Federico PhD. of Connecticut, Aaron, Adam and Alex Quku of Newark; sisters-in-law Elise Perkins and Louise Perkins, of Newark.

Schutt, Theresa - Theresa Schutt, 79, of Newark died January 2, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Theresa was born December 17, 1924 in Collinsville, Illinois, daughter of Rocco and Angelina Vesli Richichi. She had worked for C.H. Stuart and was retired from Sarah Coventry. She was a member of St. Michael's Church and the Newark VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and most of all, her family. She is survived by Leon, her loving husband of 57 years; daughter Bonnie DeSeyn of Newark; grandchildren Ron DeSeyn and Denise DeSeyn of Newark; one great-grandson; sister Rose Smith of Florida; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Rocco Richichi and sister Jenny Arbogast. Interment will be at Newark Cemetery.

Leonard, Marty - Martha 'Marty' Leonard, 46, of Clyde, died January 7, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital following an extended illness. Marty was born February 20, 1957 in Lowville, daughter of William and Shirley Hall Mekkelson. She was a graduate of Northville Central School in 1975. She had been a resident of Clyde for the past 17 years moving here from West Palm Beach, FL. Marty was employed by Colacino Electric Co. of Newark for the past five years. She was a member of the women's bowling league and had been an avid bowler for many years. Marty will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. She is survived by her husband, Richard Leonard of Clyde; her two children Brandon and Ashley; two sisters Marian (John Chrisman) O'Brien of Davenport, NY and Anne Lorica of Albany; one brother Michael (Linda) Mekkelson of Alabama; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and two special friends, Mary Sebastiano and Cindy Golembeski. She was pre-deceased by her parents and by her step-father, Charles Levesque. Calling hours are Saturday, Jan. 10 from 11 to 1 at the Baris Funeral Home, 87 W. Genesee St. Clyde. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Coleman, Walter - Walter J. Coleman, 62, of Newark, died January 1, 2004 at his home on West Myrtle Avenue, Newark. Walter was born Oct. 18, 1941 in Rochester. He had worked at the Hilton Farms in Walworth for more than 35 years, and for the past six years, at the Wayne ARC. He was a member of the Newark Baptist Fellowship. He is survived by his fiancee, Pattie Wilkinson; his Park Place family and many other friends. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Davis, James - James Davis, 70, of Geneva St., Lyons, died January 1, 2004. James was born in Montezuma, Georgia on August 16, 1933, son of Walter and Amie Lee Brown Davis. He did seasonal work for many farms and had lived in Lyons since 1970. He is survived by two brothers and seven sisters, including from this area, Bessie Jones of Sodus, and Eula Mae Wellborn of Newark. Interment will be in Montezuma, Georgia.

Hayes, Harlow - Harlow G. 'Butch' Hayes, 68, of Newark, formerly of Clyde, died January 3, 2004 at his residence in Newark.
