Havens, Robert - Robert Havens, 58, of Newark, died suddenly on June 29, 2004. Robert was born the son of the late Wilbur and Sarah Gladys Westcott Havens on January 14, 1946 in Newark. He graduated from Newark High School. The funeral home flew the Air Force flag in honor of Robert's military service during the Viet Nam War. Robert is survived by his sister, Julianna Havens Rittmeyer of Savannah, GA; nephews and their spouses and children, Dr. Christopher and Dr. Miriam Rittmeyer of Savannah, GA, Robert and Pamela Rittmeyer of Sante Fe, NM; his aunt Mrs. Vernon Westcott and cousins, the Thomas Dugan family, all of Syracuse; aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Adam Westcott and cousins, of Sarasota, FL. Interment will be at Newark Cemetery on North Main Street.

Coleman, Nancy - Nancy D. Coleman, 66, of Newark died June 29, 2004 at her home.Nancy was born July 28, 1937 in Newark, daughter of Raymond and Margaret Ledain DeWandel. For many years, she had been a secretary at the Newark High School, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and a Past President and member of the Newark Elks Club Auxiliary. She is survived by Vernon, her husband of 48 years; two daughters, Coleen (Jeffrey) Thomson of Macedon, and Kelly (Michael) Lemmon of Moorsville, NC; three grandchildren, Jordan Lemmon, Bailey Thomson and Clay Thomson; and her mother, Margaret Caruso of Newark. The family is being served by the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home. Services for Nancy will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday (July 3) at the Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Fairville Cemetery.

Stell, Douglas - Douglas Steward Stell, 73, of Penfield, formerly of Newark, died June 30, 2004 at Park Ridge Hospital. Doug was born December 30, 1930 in New York City to the late Steward and Mabel Snyder Stell. He retired in 1986 from the Newark Central Schools where he taught Social Studies. He retired in the mid 1990s from Finger Lakes Community College where he taught Government and Economics. Mr. Stell attended Rochester Institute of Technology, Trinity University of San Antonio Texas, Baptist Bible Seminary, State University of New York in Cortland and SUNY Albany. He had attended Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Newark, Grace Baptist in Marion, Newark Baptist Fellowship, Browncroft Southern Baptist Church, and Pittsford Community Church. Doug enjoyed reading, fishing, boating, model trains, historicity and most being with his family. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War. He is survived by his loving wife, Harriet Goodman Stell; they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 12; sons Douglas, Jr. (Susan) Stell of Irondequoit, and Jeffry (Nanette) Stell of Gananda; grandchildren Douglas III, Daniel, Amy, Alan, Lauren and Sydney; great-grandchildren Hannah Ruth and Daniel; one sister; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Friday (July 2) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. The funeral will be July 3 at 10 a.m. at Pittsford Community Church, 421 Marsh Road with the Rev. N. David Sanford officiating. Interment will be at Marion Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Viola, Doris 'Dorrie' - Doris Russell Viola, 87, of Newark, died June 25, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Doris was born January 30, 1917 in Rochester, daughter of John and Irene Dorshel Doe. She was a member of the Church of God. She is survived by three sons: William (Diane) Russell of Lyons, Terry (Karen) Russell of Newark, Jack (Tammy) Russell of Murphy, NC; three daughters, Doreen Porzi of Rochester, Donna (William) McDonald of Hemlock, Toni (Donald) Dube of Newark; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera Proseus of Seneca Falls; her ex-husband and good friend, Anthony Viola of Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, James Russell, a daughter, Janice Strassburger, and a son, James Russell, Jr. Interment is in White Haven Memorial Park.

Fletcher, Melvin - Melvin Fletcher, 67, of Lyons, died June 24, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital. Melvin was born August 2, 1936 in Vennettsville, SC, to Charles and Luegenia Fletcher. He worked at Garlock Co. in Palmyra and was a familiar face in Lyons with his Lincoln and stuffed animals in the car. Friends may call today, July 2 from 4 to 7 at Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home, 77 William St., Lyons. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Spencer St., Lyons. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Dawnetha (Jeff) Crawford of Webster and Cyndy Fletcher of Virginia; four granddaughters; five sisters, Charlie Mae Zimmerman, Ruby and Marie Fletcher, Rosalie Butler, Christine Wilson; nieces and nephews.

Camp, Elizabeth - Elizabeth M. Camp, 94, of Sodus, died June 23, 2004 at Blossom View Nursing Home. A service was held for her at the First United Presbyterian Church in Sodus. She is survived by her son, James (Ann) Camp of Canandaigua; two grandchildren; brother-in-law, Colin White of Sodus; sister-in-law, Esther Camp of Sodus; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1966 by her husband, Julian.

Costanza, Sally - Sally Jo Costanza, 64, of Newark, died June 24, 2004 at Pines of Peace in Ontario. Sally was born April 9, 1940 in Rochester, to Arthur and Cynthia Fox Alborn. She was a secretary for Xerox in Webster for 34 years. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Costanza, her brother Jim (Cheryl) Alborn of Ontario, her mother Cynthia Alborn of Ontario, daughter-in-law Patti Colarocco, step-son Thomas (Nellie) Colarocco, granddaughter Ashley (Billy Owen), grandson Tom, sister-in-law Josephine Arnitz of Clyde, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Colarocco.

Morales, Joyce - Joyce L. Morales, 74, of Ceiba, Puerto Rico, formerly of Newark, died June 20, 2004. She is survived by her husband Celino; their four children, Marcella (Matt) Huling of Phelps, Carol (Steven) Baroody of Shortsville, Celino (Kristine) Morales, Jr. of Utica, and Ana (Mark) Appell of Newark; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Parker, Lila - Lila Welcher Parker, 90, died June 18, 2004 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Lila was born December 29, 1913, in Newark, to Earl and Maude Sucher Welcher. She graduated from Newark High School and Northfield School for Girls in Northampton, Massachusetts. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons for over 50 years. Active in the United Presbyterian Women, she also served on the Board of Deacons, taught Sunday School and was Director of the Children's Choir. She was a leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts, and was President of the Lyons Civic Club. She was a member of the Lyons Garden Club, the Wayne County Historical Society, and the Wayne County Museum. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Crafter's Boutique. She worked as a photographer at MacIntosh, Inc. of Lyons and was co-owner of Parker's Antique Association. Lila was predeceased in 1982 by her husband Gordon. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Iversen of Webster, Deborah (Michael) Noble of Toronto, and Rebecca (John) Hemingway of Lyons; her cousin, Helen Welcher Young of Geneva; nephews, Robert Welcher of Liverpool and William Welcher of Rochester; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held June 27 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons, with a reception to follow. Inurnment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Nortier, Carl 'Chip' - Carl 'Chip' Nortier, 51, of Marion and Lyons, died June 22, 2004. He is survived by his loving daughter, Bree (Adam Chesis) Brayton of Rochester; sister Pat Murphy of Ann Arbor, Michigan; sister Lauren Moore, of Pinckney, Michigan; special friends, Art Ertel, Jr., of Sodus Point, Ed (Nancy) Lawrenz of Farmington and Thomas Phillips of Marion. Chip graduated from Marion High School in 1971, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid NASCAR fan. Calling hours are tomorrow, June 26 from 1-3 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 3896 Buffalo Street, Marion, where a service will be held at 3 p.m.

Mayo, John - John L.A. Mayo, 86, of the Wayne County Nursing Home, died June 18, 2004. John was born in Rochester, the son of Ray and Grace Corrighan Mayo. He was the owner and operator of Mayo Nursery in Lyons. He is survived by three children, Meyrick (Vern) Peterson of Lyons, Duncan (Joycelyn) Mayo of Michigan, Ellen (Dan) Gullace of Pittsford; 11 grand-children; several great-grandchildren; two sisters; Betty Sanford of Lyons, Susie Nutting of Sodus Point; and several nieces and nephews.

Spencer, Ava - Ava C. Spencer, 55, of Clifton Springs, died June 20, 2004. Ava was born February 20,1949, in Waterloo, to Robert and Ruth Scott. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was employed by the Big M Supermarkets in Clifton Springs. She is survived by her husband Terry; five daughters, Michell (Mike) McAndrews of Palmyra, Annie (Kevin Bruening) Woodard of Palmyra, Christine Spencer of Florida, Ashley Spencer of Clifton Springs, Caitlin Spencer of Clifton Springs; a son, Kenneth Spencer of New Jersey; five grandchildren; her brother, Robert Scott of Hull, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her sister, Joyce.

Carlyle, Hildegarde - Hildegarde Murney Fegley Carlyle, 86, of Newark, died June 13, 2004. She was born July 6, 1917 in Waterloo to George and Elizabeth Murney Fegley. She graduated from Waterloo High School in 1925. She worked 30 years as the Senior Colonies supervisor of Community Homes (colonies) at the Newark Developmental Center retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Newark. She enjoyed golf and was a member of the Wayne Hills County Club. She was a life member of the American Legion #286 Ladies Auxiliary, and twice president, and Elks Auxiliary #1249. She was a member of the Eastern Star Amitie Chapter 473 and Rebekah Silver Link Lodge of Newark Mrs. Carlyle was appointed, by Governor Harriman, to the position on Wayne County Clerk. She served as president (two times) of the Civil Service Association of New York State and as a Cancer Captain for the town of Arcadia, Newark Chapter. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lynn James and Tracy Carlyle of Sodus Point; grandchildren Jeffrey (Erin) and Kristen both of Texas, Serenity of Williamson; great-granddaughter Callie Grace; sister-in-law Virginia Phillips Gunther of Canandaigua; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband James Carlyle on June 9, 1981; daughter Sandra in 1941; three sisters and one brother. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Doucet, Julie - Julie Farnsworth Doucet, 32, formerly of Port Gibson, of Rock Hill, SC, died June 8, 2004 at the Piedmont Medical Center. Julie was born June 20, 1971 in Newark, daughter of Samuel and Eureka Covey Farnsworth. She was a graduate of Newark High School and a member of Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Julie worked for Key Industries in Newark before moving to Rock Hill 10 years ago. She is survived by her husband, Timothy; her father, Samuel Farnsworth of Port Gibson; two sisters, Yvonne (Steven) Lathrop and Jane (Matt) Ury, all of Fairville; two brothers, David (Linda) Tilly of Greece, and MSgt. James (Jessie) Farnsworth of Farmington; nieces and nephews. Julie was predeceased in 1991 by her mother. Calling hours are today, June 18, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Services will be held at 11 a.m. June 19 with the Rev. David Hermann officiating. Interment will be in East Newark Cemetery.

Lanning, Edith - Edith P. Lanning, 86, of Rochester, died June 15, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Edith was born March 31, 1918 in Wilmington, Delaware to Frank A. and Mazie Underwood Perry. She lived in Penn Yan from 1942-1967 and attended the United Methodist Church of Penn Yan. She worked in the cafeteria at Penn Yan Academy and attended Middlesex Baptist Church. She and her late husband, Thorold, had lived in Newark for many years. She had also lived in Kissimie, FL. Calling hours are today (June 18) at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Ct., Newark. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Middlesex Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Ronald H.) Peck of Keuka Park; a son, Rev. Gerald (Cindy) Lanning of Rochester; a sister, M. Louise Cruver of Cortland; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased in 1983 by her husband, Thorold.

Norrison, Edward - Edward J. Norrison, 26, of Marion, died June 16, 2004. He is survived by his parents, Regina Norrison, of Marion, and Nelson (Belva) Norrison of Newark; grandparents, Earl (Rosemary) Scharles of Marion and Dorothy Norrison of Newark; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Datthyn, Daniel - Daniel D. Datthyn, 44, of Williamson, died June 15, 2004. He was a fruit grower, and member and Deacon of the First Reformed Church of Sodus. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Paula (Rosington) Datthyn; sons, Brandon, Adam and Ryan; parents Isaac and Roxanna (Wemesfelder) Datthyn of Sodus; sisters, Kathy (Brian) Madigan of Nedrow; Stephenie (James) Cheeseman of Fairview, PA; parents-in-law, Jim and Carol Rosington of Sodus; brothers-in-law, James (Patricia) Rosington, Greg (Rebecca) Rosington, both of Sodus; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Dayton, Mary - Mary Alicia Powell Dayton, 70, of Newark, died June 5, 2004. She was born April 9, 1934 in Phelps, to Vern and Mary Rickey Powell. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She was retired from the Hutching Psychiatric Center in Syracuse. She is survived by four sons: Gerald Stratton of Newark; Leon Stratton of San Diego, California; Antonio Ceravolo and Joseph Ceravolo, both of Newark; daughter, Roni Jean Stratton of Holley; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Carl Powell of Syracuse and Scotty Powell of Vancouver, WA. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery, Clifton Springs.

VerDow, Loretta - Loretta A. VerDow, 78, of Newark, died June 6, 2004. She is survived by her son, William, Jr. of Clifton Springs; daughter, Laura (John) Santelli of Newark; two grandchildren; sisters, Caroline (Masters) Santoro of Holly Hill, FL and Antoinette 'Dolly' (John) Nussbaumer of Palmyra. She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband, William. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Servello, Linda - Linda Ursano Servello, 61, of Titusville, FL, died May 27, 2004 at her home. She was born October 16, 1942 in Newark, to James J. and Rose (DiSanto) Ursano. She is survived by her husband, Peter Servello; children, Lon Servello of NC; Kym (Mark) Servello-Gardner and Patrick Servello of Syracuse; sister, Angela (Thomas) Velte of Newark; five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Griswold, Malcolm - W. Malcolm Griswold, 100, of Clifton Springs, died June 3, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Malcolm was born Nov. 8, 1903, in Syracuse, the son of Hovey and Mabel Chapman Griswold. He was a 1926 graduate of Syracuse University. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Hovey H. Griswold, who founded the Ontario Telephone Co. in 1920 to serve the villages of Phelps and Clifton Springs. served on the board of education for 26 years and devoted many years to Scouting. He was a member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church. Malcolm was a charter member of Clifton Springs Rotary Club and served as its second president from 1934-35. He was a founding member of the Clifton Springs Country Club. Malcolm was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 75 years. He was elected to the New York State Telecommunications Association Hall of Fame in 1979. He is survived by sons, Robert (Joan) Griswold of Phelps and John (Sharon) Griswold of Lock Berlin; daughter, Susan (Jim) VerStreate of Dayton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, in 1993. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Papasso, Nellie - Nellie F. Papasso, 81, of Lyons, died June 4, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Nellie was born April 11, 1923 in, the daughter of Haig and Rosa Hazelwood Pilkenton in Lashmeet, West Virginia. She was a nurse for 25 years at Newark Developmental Center. She is survived by her husband, Frank, of Lyons; a son, Richard O. Gore of Virginia; daughter, Rita Parish of Virginia; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Newark Cemetery with the Rev. Cynthia Huling-Hummel officiating.

Ennis, Jean - Jean Marion Ennis, 84, of Lyons/Clifton Springs, died June 5, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home. Jean was born April 4, 1920 at the Bisset family estate in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. During the Second World War, she served in the Women's Army Corps of the British Army and met Canadian Army Lieutenant Charles Ennis of Lyons. They were married April 30, 1946 at Drumblade Church, Huntley, Aberdeenshire and raised four children at Richardmond Hill, Lyons. She taught Sunday School at the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and belonged to various civic organizations. She played the piano and had a great love for music. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Kaspar-Paty of Falls Church, Virginia; Charles David Murray Ennis (Angela) of Greece; Edson Taft Ennis (Katherine) of Lyons; and Mary Gentner of Auburn; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Lieut.-Col. and Mrs. William Turner Murray Bisset; her husband, Charles Edson Ennis; and three siblings, Kathleen, Rachel and Mordaunt. Interment will be at Drumblade Church.

Mason, Victor - Victor M. Mason, 78, of Marion, died June 6, 2004.He was the oldest child of Leon Mason of Palmyra and Margaret McKenna from Belfast, Ireland. He graduated from Marion High School, served in WWII in the 4th Mechanized Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron of the 1st Army in Germany. He was a crop duster for 28 years and an Associate Broker in real estate for 16 years. He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Voorhees) of Marion; sons, Todd (Nan Cramer) of Chappaqua; Hugh (Denise Everitt) of Marion; four grandchildren; step-children, Nancy (Gerry) Frizelle of Fairport, Kevin Voorhees of NC, Brenda Voorhees of Canandaigua, Brian (Amy) Voorhees of Marion, Barry Voorhees of Portland, OR; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Zullo of East Islip; step-sister Wilma Johnson of Wolcott; brother-in-law Clayton Weatherup; sisters-in-law, Avis O'Connor, Esther Thompson and Kathy Mason; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Merna Weatherup; and by two brothers, William and Raymond.

Bennett, Leroy - Leroy Bennett, 82, of Seneca Falls, died June 6, 2004, at Newark Hospital. Leroy was born on July 18, 1921 in Tyre, son of Earnest and Sarah Yeary Bennett. He was a farm hand for Dick Brand Farms and did handyman jobs. He was a resident of Maple Rest Nursing Home in Clyde and Blossom View in Sodus. He is survived by nieces, nephews and good friends, Tootie and Allan Sutterby. Arrangements by Pusateri Funeral Home in Clyde. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m., at Spring Brook Cemetery in Seneca Falls, with Rev. Esther Wheeler officiating.

Eckburg, Jane - Jane W. Eckburg, 76, of Palmyra, died June 8, 2004 in Skaneateles. She was named in a story in last week's Courier-Gazette about Presbyterian Women of Faith. Jane is survived by her son, James (Eva) Eckburg of San Antonio, TX; daughters Kathleen (Daniel) Babcock of Wellsville; Joan (Stephen) Landgrebe of Palmyra and Julie (Stephen) Hartnett of Skaneateles; sisters, Joyce (Ray) Bundrock and Joan (Dick) Genet; brother, Roger (Dorie) Winner, all of Gasport; several grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased May 11, 1999 by her husband Robert A. Eckburg. Calling hours are this afternoon, 5 to 8 p.m. (June 11) at Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 West Main Street, Palmyra. A memorial service will be June 12 at 2 p.m. at the Western Presbyterian Church of Palmyra, 101 East Main Street. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Arnold, Kenneth - Kenneth J. Arnold, 57, of Williamson, died June 8, 2004. He was born December 16, 1946 in Rochester, to Ralph and Florence VanHarken Arnold. He was a Vietnam Army veteran. He retired from Xerox in 2001 after 31 years of employment. Calling hours are tomorrow, June 12 from noon to 2 at the Farnsworth-Keysor Funeral Home, Main St., North Rose. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 at the Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Humbert officiating. West, Claud - Claud B. West, 65, of Newark, died May 30, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Claud was born May 29, 1939 in Elmira to the late Claud and Flossie Mae McDuffie West. He retired from Mobil Chemical in Macedon. Claud enjoyed auto mechanics and spent many hours working on cars. He specially loved his many cats. Bivone, Ricci - Ricci Dominic Bivone, infant son of Vincent and Tamara Doucet Bivone II, of Newark, died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Ricci was born May 26, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his parents; a sister, Krysta; a brother, Darius; maternal grandparents, Donna and Robert Leddick of Newark; paternal grandparents, Vincent and Janice Bivone of Rochester; paternal great-grandmother, Camilla Hallstrom of Rochester; paternal great-grandfather, John Gaudu; several uncles, great-aunts and great-uncles. Wood, Adah - Adah O. Wood, 101, formerly of Sodus, of Williamson, died May 25, 2004. A retiree from Sarah Coventry of Newark, member of the Sodus Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughters, Lucille (Edmund) Smith of Camillus; Jean (Edward) Doescher, of Loveland, CO; Barbara (William) Stanton of Williamson; daughter-in-law, Irene Wood of Williamson; 11 special grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1978 by her husband, Frank W. Wood, by her son Bruce Wood in 2003, and granddaughter, Barbara Jean Willis. Interment, Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Sullivan, Judge - Judge Sullivan, 78, of Newark and Phelps, died May 28, 2004 at Geneva General Hospital. He was born July 7, 1925 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late John and Helen Brewster Sullivan. He had worked and retired from C.H. Stuart Co. where he worked in the maintenance department. He is survived by wife of 55 years, Mattie Clayton Sullivan; sons Charles (Daisy) Sullivan and Joseph (Mary) Sullivan; daughters Linda (Albert) Lugo, Diane Sullivan and Lucy Sullivan; grandchildren Paul (Connie) Lugo, Jody (Michael) Joden, Summer Sullivan, C.J. Sullivan, Shane Sullivan and Joey Lugo; three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters. Peters, Brenda - Brenda L. Peters, 57, of Newark, died June 1, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road, North, Rochester. Brenda was born February 17, 1947 in Cleveland, Tennessee, daughter of Peter and Marguerite Thomas Simizon. She had worked at Seneca Foods in Newark for 13 years and had attended Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra. She is survived by two daughters, Bridgett Holmes and Ashley (Jay) Feliciano of Newark; four grandchildren and many friends.

Barenthin, Kathleen - Kathleen Marie (Kelly) Barenthin, 57, of Sodus, died May 25, 2004. Kathleen is survived by her husband, Mike; children, Nancy Reynolds, Tracy Vallier and Richard Vallier; four grandchildren, four siblings and many friends. Johnson, Doris - Doris J. Johnson, 92, of Palmyra/Shortsville, died May 29, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center. She is survived by her daughter, Claire (Jim) Sutera of Palmyra; son, Robert (Marilyn) Johnson of Troy, MIchigan; a sister, Lois Espenmiller of Hilton; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Fortune, Muriel - Muriel E. (Tarbox) Fortune, 89, of Williamson died May 30, 2004, at Clifton Springs Hospital. She was formerly living in Sebring, Florida. She is survived by her sister, Olive Tarbox, of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Betty Fortune of Williamson; nieces, Laurie (James) Verbridge of Williamson; Lynne (DeLyser) of Albany; and Leslie (Craig) Hance of Marion. Syron, Thelma - Thelma Mae Syron, 96, of Clyde, died May 29, 2004 at her home, following an extended illness, surrounded by her loving family. Thelma was born October 25, 1907, in Lock Berlin, to Arthur and Frances Stewart Juffs. On January 14, 1933, she married William Syron; he died February 24, 2001. She was a lifetime resident of Clyde and an active member of the Clyde United Methodist Church and its Gleaners Class. She was employed by the Clyde School District, working in the school cafeteria. She is survived by one son, Maurice (Audrey) Syron of Canandaigua; one brother, Curtis (Monica) Juffs of Clearwater, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Barbara Juffs of Lyons; four grandchildren, Sheila (Robert) Hemenway of Newark, Nila (Lewis) Ellwanger of Clyde, Mark Syron of Seneca Falls and Craig (Connie) Syron of Newark; and seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Betty Jean DeLeo, and her brother, Henry Juffs. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery in Clyde.

Adams, Jean - Jean E. Adams, 80, of Clifton Springs, died May 31, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. Jean was born April 23, 1924, in Rochester, daughter of Edward and Sarah Adams. She was a World War II Navy WAVE veteran. Jean graduated in 1950 from the New York State Teachers College at Geneseo, having majored in library science. After some teaching in Niagara Falls and Port Byron, Miss Adams was the librarian at the Phelps Elementary School for many years. Her hobbies included traveling, reading and playing croquet. She was a member of the state, county and local Retired Teachers Associations and of Delta Kappa Gamma. Jean had been active in the Ontario County Literacy Volunteers, the Newark D.A.R. Chapter, where she served as chaplain; the American Association of University Women, and the Finger Lakes Unit 49 of the WAVES International. Jean was a member of the Clifton Springs Baptist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Phelps American Legion. She is survived by her brothers, Ralph (Mabel) Adams of Clifton Springs and Gilbert (Ruth) Adams of Clifton Springs; nephews, Mark (Lynn), Jeffery (Ogla), Scott and Gary Adams; nieces, Valerie Adams and Laurie (Christopher) Pane; and several great-nieces and greatnephews. Arrangements entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home, 26 West Main Street in Clifton Springs. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19 at Clifton Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Gardner, Randy - Randy C. Gardner, 48, of Lyons, died May 30, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Randy was a self-employed contractor. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two daughters, Jordan and Jennifer; a brother, Michael (Joyce) Gardner of Lock Berlin; a sister, Marji (David) Tong of Ohio; nieces and nephews. Scherer, Madelyn - Madelyn M. Scherer, 64, of Vienna St., Palmyra died May 23, 2004 at Park Ridge Hospital in Rochester. Madelyn was born May 18, 1940 in Palmyra, to Raymond and Virginia (Zeger) Price. She was a 1958 graduate of Newark High School. She had been an administrative assistant in the offices at Comstock, Curtis Burns-AgriLink, and Seneca Foods, retiring in 2002. Madelyn had been a member of St. Michael's Church and was an active volunteer with Marbletown Fire Department Auxiliary. Madelyn is survived by three sons, Michael (Cheryl) DeWispelaere of Oxford, Bradley (Susan) DeWispelaere of Lockport, Timothy (Stephanie) DeWispelaere of San Antonio, TX, a daughter Kathleen (David) Ebbeling of Clarkston, MI; 12 grandchildren; parents Raymond and Virginia Price of Newark; sisters Barbara (Robert) DesCamp of Magnolia, TX and Carol Boyce of Newark; nieces and nephews, and her cat, Charlie. Interment, East Newark Cemetery.

Jonack, Albert - Albert M. Jonack, of Newark, 72, died May 20, 2004 at DeMay Living Center. Albert was born July 23, 1931 in Rochester, to the late Maximilian and Josephine Dembrowski Jonack. He retired from Jada Precision Plastics in Rochester where he worked as a Quality Control Inspector. He is survived by his wife, Angelina 'Angie' Blandina Jonack; sons Greg (Pam) Jonack, Paul Jonack and James Jonack (John Shookowsky); daughters Michele (Kevin Cobb) and Jennifer (Scott) DeRue; grandchildren Michelle, Pauline, Christine, Stacey, Drew, Calan, Adam and Ashley; great grandson Nicholas; brother-in-law Peter Garabaldi; sister-in-law Martha Sanger. He was predeceased by his brothers Stanley Sanger and Babe Jonack, and his sister Norma Garabaldi. The funeral home flew the Army flag in his honor.

Dohn, Marion - Marion L. Dohn, 88, of Newark and Horseheads, died May 12, 2004. A long-time resident of Newark, Marion was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and volunteer with the Park Place, a community living center in Newark. She was a graduate of the Cochran School of Nursing in Yonkers, and retired as a Registered Nurse at the Newark Hospital. She was predeceased in 1977 by her husband, George B. Dohn, and brother, David Raynnd D. Abbuhl. Her surviving family includes her sons and daughter, George (Alida) Dohn of Park Ridge, NJ; Paul (Heather) Dohn of Corning; and daughter, Virginia Viveros of Russell's Point, Ohio; sister, Lois Sestito of Aliquippa, PA; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment will take place beside her late husband in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Hastings-On-Hudson.

Hall, Elijah - Elijah Laytin Hall, age 8, of Williamson, died May 19, 2004 with his family by his side. He is survived by his grandmother, Lucille Hall; mother, Michale Hall; siblings, Brifhauna, Rufus and Khyeria; and host of other relatives. Interment is in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Franz, Steven - Steven J. Franz, 58, of Sodus Point, died May 20, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Blakely); step-children, Lisa Kuder and Thomas (Jackie) Ferraro; two grandchildren; siblings, Mitchell (Sheila) Franz and Susan (Michael) Piacente.

Lima, Sophie - Sophie Lima of Sodus died May 18, 2004. She is survived by her children, Tracey (Chad) McCallum and Thomas Lima, Jr.; five grandsons; siblings, Joseph Wojtczak, Gloria McKeown, Shirley Tortoretti, Linda Davis; nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was an antiques dealer.

Scherbyn, Paul - Paul F Scherbyn, 63, of Phelps, died May 21, 2004, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Paul was born April 21, 1941 in Clifton Springs, son of Frances and Mildred Van Parys Scherbyn. He was active in the United Church of Phelps. He was active in the Wide Awake Grange, Phelps Historical Society and Buckhorn Sportsmen's Club. He worked for Phelps Sungas-Electric for over 10 years and retired July 31, 2003 from Parker-Hanafin after 24 years.He was predeceased by his father, Francis Scherbyn, in 1977; and brother, Robert Scherbyn, in 1995. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Adams Scherbyn; daughter, Sharon Scherbyn of Phelps and son David Scherbyn of Phelps; three grandchildren; his mother, Mildred Scherbyn of Phelps; nieces and nephews.

Mare, Armand - Armand, B.J. Mare, 78, of Newark, and formerly of Massena, died May 15, 2004, at Newark Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1926 in Massena, the son of Emory Mare and Cecilia (LaDue) Mare. Mare was employed by Alcoa for 33 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and he served in the US Army during WWII. He is survived by hie wife Marguerite (Rogers) Mare; a daughter, Marlene (Mare) Donk of Newark; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Brodear and Yvette Ploof; two sisters in-law, Alice Brodear and Margaret Mare; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother John Mare. He married Marguerite Rogers on June 21, 1947. The couple lived in Massena, then Hudson, Florida, moving to Newark in 1998. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Massena.

Smoak, Russell - Russell C. Smoak, 78, of Newark, died May 24, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Russell was born in Sanford, Florida on February 10, 1926. He worked as a machinist for 20 years at Fold-Pak. He attended the Church of Latter Day Saints in Lyons for 15 years. She is survived by his daughter, Mary (Bernard) Sigler-Nelson of Newark, grandson William Sigler of Newark, and many friends from the Veterans Hospital and from the church. He served in the Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946. Interment, Newark Cemetery.

Moody, Richard - Richard A. Moody, Jr., 42, of Macedon, died at home, surrounded by his family, on May 25, 2004. He was predeceased by his father, Richard A. Moody, Sr. He is survived by his children, Richard A. (Sarah) Moody III, and Heather L. VanDeMortel, Vivian - Vivian N. VanDeMortel, 80, of Port Gibson, died May 26, 2004. Brumm, Steven, H. - Steven H. Brumm, 49, of Newark, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at his Newark home on Heath Street. Steve was born in Newark on March 11, 1955, the son of Harold C. and Inez Potwin Brumm. A 1973 graduate of Newark High School, he earned Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and Accounting at the University of Buffalo in 1978. Steve began working for the Village of Newark in 1985, when he was appointed Clerk-Treasurer during the administration of Mayor James Praino. After leaving village service, he held management positions with several private firms, and had recently returned to village employment as Deputy Clerk-Teasurer. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Past President of the Newark Lions Club, a member of the Newark Elks Club and an avid hunter. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joanne; his son Nicholas and daughter Alissa; his mother Inez Brumm, all of Newark; two brothers, David (Marie) of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Jonathan (Terri) of Rochester; his father- and mother-in-law, Floyd and Suzanne Greene of Newark. Steve was predeceased by his father Harold in 1995. Arrangements are by Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. (Friday, May 21) at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 400 South Main Street, Newark with Rev. Edward Putnam officiating. Stewart, James - James F. Stewart, 55, of Ford Street, died Thursday, May 13, 2004. Jim was born Dec. 3, 1948, in Alabama, the son of Jim and Willie Stewart. He did custodial work for a law office in Rochester and also served in the Army. He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Vicky Norrison Stewart; a daughter, Linda; three sisters, Jimmie Stewart of Rochester and Diane and Ruby Stewart; mother-in-law, Dorothy Norrison of Newark; sister and brother-in-law; and several nices and nephews.

VanNorman, Marian - Marian S. VanNorman, 69, of Newark, died May 15, 2004. She is predeceased by her son, Robin. Survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Edward J.; daughter, Linda VanNorman of Rochester; Son, Edward A. (Wendy) VanNorman or Phoenix, NY; sisters, Evelyn (Bill) Clemens of Florida, Thelma (Ernie) Vermeulen of Florida, Hazel (Doug) Doyal of Ontario and Carol (Roger) Hubright of Lyons; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Verstraete, Oscar - Oscar H. Verstraete, 80, of Marion, died May 17, 2004. Oscar is a Xerox retiree and member of St Mary's of the Lake Church in Ontario. Johnson, Eileen M. O'Herren - Eileen M. O'Herren Johnson, 74, of Clyde, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at the DeMay Living Center. Eileen was born Sept. 11, 1929, in Lyons, the daughter of George and Christine Fleming O'Herren. She was a graduate of Clyde High School and was a member of St. John's Church. Eileen and Edward E. Johnson were married in 1960 in Clyde. Entombment will be in St. John's Cemetery. She is survived by her sons, Paul (Lisa) and Steven Johnson of Newark; four grandchildren, Matthew, Timothy, Emily and Morgan Johnson; and a nephew, Terry O'Herren of California. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, on Feb. 24, 1998; and a brother, Jack O'Herren.

Haak, Andrew - Andrew Lloyd Haak, 46, of Ontario died Wednesday, May 19, 2004. Hassler, Beatrice - Beatrice M. Hassler, of Columbia, S.C., fomerly of Palmyra entered into rest on Wednesday, May 19, 2004. She was born in Seneca Falls, New York on January 17, 1914, the daughter of Bessie and Claude McMillan. Beatrice was a past member of the Western Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years, and the Palmyra King's Daughters. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Ralph J. Hassler in 1987. Surviving are her 3 children, William (Elaine) Hassler of Palmyra, NY, Janet (John) Costa of Fairfield Connecticut and Lola (Gary) Lashway of Columbia, SC, 6 grandchildren, including Debra (Craig) Schmeer of Hilton, NY and Kerry (Matthew) Stappenbeck of Marion, NY, and 14 great-grandchildren. Durfee, Nelson - Newark Nelson E. Durfee, 82, of Newark, died May 9, 2004 at his home. The son of Jay and Gertrude Forrester Durfee, Nelson was born May 12, 1921 at the family farm on Minsteed Road, where he enjoyed farming. He graduated from Mechanical Institute of Technology in Rochester with a degree in tool and die making. Nelson retired from Kodak in 1983, where he had been an instrument maker for 26 years. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and the Newark Elks Lodge. He is survived by, Margaret 'Peg' - his wife of 57 years; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Jill Durfee, one granddaughter and one step-grandson, all of Newark. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marian Durfee of Phelps and Jane Durfee of Levittown, PA. His brothers, Kenneth and Frederick Durfee, predeceased him. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Derr, Steven - Steven Edward Derr, 48, of Newark, died suddenly as a result of an automobile accident on May 5, 2004. Steve was born July 21, 1955 in Chester, England, son of John and Sheila Woods Derr. He attended Park Presbyterian Church. Steve enjoyed wood working, and motorcycles (Harley-Davidsons) but above all he enjoyed being with his children and family. The Navy Flag flew at the funeral home, in honor of his military service. He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Rowe Derr; sons Nathan Derr of Lyons, Ethan Derr of Newark; daughter Sara Derr of Newark; granddaughter Taylor; his parents John and Sheila Derr of Newark; sisters Anne McCue of Newark, Mary (Chas) Tatigian of Florida, Chris Krebbeks and her fiance Edward Wilk, and Kim (Jedd) Hetherley; many aunts and uncles, including Betty and Donald Viola of Newark; several nieces and nephews; father and mother-in-law Kenneth and Roxanna Rowe of Newark.

Kelley, Evelyn - Evelyn A. Kelley, 62, of Fink Road, Lyons, died May 7, 2004. Evelyn was born April 25,1942, in Syracuse, to Gladys and Kenneth Rose. When she was 12, Evelyn and parents moved to Lyons, where Evelyn was an honor student and member of Lyons Class of 1959. She worked throughout high school years at the C. H. Stuart Company in Newark. After graduation, she worked several more years there, before moving on to Mobil Chemical, Plastics Division in Macedon, Technical Center, and Powder Mill #2, She worked in Data Processing and operated the IBM AS400 Computer Systems at Mobil for 19 years. She was an avid reader of books, and enjoyed working with her husband in buying, selling, and collecting antiques and historical bottles, participating in many shows in the area. She was a member of the Genesee Valley Bottle Collectors Asn., Wayne County Antique Dealers Assn., County Historical Society, Lyons Heritage Society, Phelps Community Historical Society, Arcadia Historical Society, and an Honorary Member of the Hotchkiss Family Assn. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark. Her interests included traveling, local history, and restoring her home. She was very devoted to her family, and enjoyed holiday reunions. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 38 years, Richard, daughter Melissa of Newark, son Christopher (Gabrielle) of Columbus, Ohio, and step-daughter Janette Layton (Kevin) of Munich, Germany, daughter Robin Granger of Newark, seven grandchildren, and special friends, Betty Short, and A. J. Bernhardt, of Newark, the Smith family and special Little Friend Paige. Interment in Oaks Corners Cemetery.

Lootens, Andrew - Andrew Francis Lootens, 79, of Phelps, died May 9, 2004. Andrew was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Newark, to Joseph and Sophia DesCamp Lootens. He attended District #4 School on Hartnagel Road and Newark High School. He entered the Navy in 1943 and served as a third class Petty Officer on LST 574 in the Pacific Theater until 1946. In 1947, he married Helen Joanna Taney of Phelps. He retired from Rochester's Carpenter Union Local 85 in 1986. He was a member of the Phelps American Legion and of St. Francis Church in Phelps. He is survived by his wife, Helen; four children, Rosemary (William) Barker of Inverness, FL, Ann (John) Baker of Bridgewater, Robert (Janice) Lootens of Phelps, and Judith (Thomas, Sr.) Ferrell of Lyons; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister, Pauline Barnes of Clyde; a bother, Edward Lootens of Newark, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Lootens of Newark; and his sister, Regina Lootens of Newark. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Phelps.

Rice, Francis - Francis Tyler Rice, 69, of Sodus, died May 11, 2004.He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Kathryne Rice of Syracuse and Cheryl Rice of Bogota, Columbia; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Peggy Terry. Calling hours are today from 7-9 p.m. and May 15 from 1 to 3 at the Norton Funeral Home, Sodus. A service will be Saturday at 3:30 at First Presbyterian Church in Sodus. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery/Welsey Island, Thousand Islands.

Simizon, Albert - Albert K. Simizon, 61, of Newark, died May 9, at Newark Hospital. Albert was born in Newark on March 28, 1943, son of Peter and Altea Smith Simizon. He drove bus for A&E Transportation and was self-employed in sales. He was a graduate of Newark High school, Texas State University and Auburn Community College. He served in the Army. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Marlene Tellier Simizon; four children Troy (Eva) of Macedon, Tammy, Tyson, Peter (Heather) Simizon, all of Newark; a brother John (Karen) of Newark; sister Elaine (Donald) DeFisher of Newark; nieces and nephews.

Farnsworth, Cleone - Cleone P. Farnsworth, 77, of Palmyra/Williamson, died May 10, 2004 at Newark Manor. Cleone was born on February 1, 1927, in Palmyra, to Abraham and Mae VerPlank Pembroke. She was married to Harold R. Farnsworth on July 9, 1949, in the Palmyra United Methodist Church. At the Palmyra Church, she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Treasurer. She enjoyed many activities with the Palmyra Senior Citizens. Cleone is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Robert) Lonis of Williamson; sons, Nelson (Sonia) Farnsworth of Brighton, and Mark (Sonia) Farnsworth of Newark; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, and by her brothers, Veryl and Galen Pembroke. A graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22 at the Macedon Cemetery, for Cleone and her husband, Harold R. Farnsworth, who died December 25, 2003.

Ackerman, Beatrice - Beatrice M. 'Beaty Huff' Ackerman, 69, of Williamson, died May 10, 2004. Rush, Lillian - Lillian Rowena Rush, 93, of Palmyra, died May 12, 2004. Rowena was born January 8, 1911 in Marion, to Joseph and Anna Goosen DeWitt. She was a lifelong resident of the Palmyra area and a member of Western Presbyterian Church. She and her husband Harold were for 25 years the proprietors of 'Hop's Inn' in Palmyra. She is survived by her daughter Anita 'Mitzi' (James) Adams; daughter-in-law Gail Rush; 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Harold R. Rush, son Larry Rush and brother Harold DeWitt. Interment in Marion Cemetery follows a private funeral.

Tierson, Alice - Alice Tierson, 64, of Lyons, died April 30, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Alice was born September 22, 1939 in Lewisville to Clarence and Iva Hardy Barton. She had worked for DeVries Garden in Newark for 16 years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She was an avid bowler, bowling every week at Rose Bowl in Newark. Fisher, Carmella - Carmella Fisher, Carmella Fisher, 87, of Newark, died April 29, 2004 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. She was born January 20, 1917, in Lyons, daughter of Newton and Rose Petrus Sapp. Carmella grew up in Newark and resided in Marion with her husband, moving back to Newark shortly after his death in 1981. She was active with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and was a volunteer at the Alex Eligh Community Center. She is survived by her son Charles (Marlene) Fisher of Marion; granddaughter, Chrissie Fisher of Wolcott; two sisters, Mary Clark and Lorraine Sapp both of Newark; four brothers, Henry (Beatrice) Sapp and Fred Sapp of Newark, Richard (Ellen) Sapp of Clyde and Robert (June) Sapp of Sodus; and many nieces and nephews. Welsh, James - James S. Welsh, 51, of Shortsville, died April 30, 2004, at his home.He worked for Nagle, Inc. with 15 years of service. White, Harry - Harry K. White, 76, of Palmyra, died May 2, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Harry was born May 11, 1927 in Adams Basin, to Kenneth and Gladys Barclay White. Harry and Cecelia Herendeen were married September 10, 1949 in Shortsville. He was retired from Marine Midland Bank, for which he managed the Sodus branch. He was a 50-year member and Elder of the Western Presbyterian Church of Palmyra, a 50-year member and Past Chief of the Palmyra Fire Department, 50-year member of the Drumlin Square Lodge of F&AM, member and Past President of Sodus Rotary Club, and member of the Palmyra-Macedon Rotary Club. He served on the Palmyra Town Board and was Justice for the Town of Palmyra for 20 years. He was a member and past president of the Wayne County Fair Board of Directors. Harry is survived by his wife, Cecelia; daughter Joan (John) DeFrees of Erieville: son Robert (Toni) White of Ontario: sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Jane White, James (Betty) Herendeen, Floyd (Joyce) Herendeen, Dorothy (Melvin) Nessinger, Lyndon (Penny) Herendeen, Carl (Phyllis) Herendeen and Glenn (Charlotte) Herendeen and three grandchildren. Cavanaugh, Alice - Alice Sweeney Cavanaugh of Elbridge, formerly of Newark, died April 22, 2004. Alice was born in Sherrill and was a longtime resident of Newark, before moving to Elbridge. She graduated frown the Utica School of Commerce and then worked as a legal secretary. Later she was a homemaker raising four daughters. Alice was communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Camillus where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and volunteer for the Adoration Chapel and the food pantry. She is survived by Walter E. Cavanaugh, her husband of 61 years; daughters Wendy Cavanaugh, Diane O'Donnell, Laurie Wright, and Kelly Cavanaugh; three grandchildren; sisters MaryLou Fogg and Patricia Harsma. Dreier, Chanda Lee and Kimber Lee - Chanda Lee Dreier, 14, and Kimber Lee Dreier, 11, sisters who lived in Marion, died tragically in a car accident on April 24, 2004. Chanda ('Panda' to her friends) loved riding her horse, chatting with her on-line friends, or chatting on the phone. She was an eighth grade student at the Newark Middle School. She played soccer, lacrosse and enjoyed swimming. Kimber loved to sing, was a proud member of the Kathy Mattea fan club, loved to cook and she had just started baseball practices with the Marion Yankees. She was a fifth grade student at Marion Elementary School. She loved meeting new people and had a smile for everyone. Ticconi, Peter J. - Peter James Ticconi, 89, died April 18, 2004 at Warren General Hospital, Warren, PA. Peter was born June 29, 1914, in Lyons, and was a resident of Claredon for 34 years and of Syracuse since 1950. He was employed with the former Warren Brothers Road Co. in Syracuse for 42 years, and then worked with the L.C. Whitford Co. in Wellsville for 25 years and continued to do consulting work for them, retiring at age 87. He was project supervisor-engineer when the upper reservoir of the Kinzua Dam was built and was a member of the union of operators engineers. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Bunn Ticconi, whom he married September 28, 1945, in South Mills, NC; four daughters, Linda (Robert) White of Bedford, NH, Elizabeth (John) Walker of Syracuse, Amy (Robin) Bevevino of Warren, Pa. and Jane (Glenn) Miller of LaGrange, Ohio; two sons, Peter James Ticconi of Severna Park, Md., and James Robert Ticconi of Claredon, Pa.; four brothers, Joseph Ticconi of Sanford, Florida, Jake Ticconi of Alton; Art Ticconi of Waterloo, and Ralph Ticconi of Fort Lauderdale; four sisters, Rose Hiller and Louise Ruffalo, both of Newark, & Tina Tricarico & Pauline Ticconi, both of Lyons; nine grandchildren; nieces & nephews. Hill, Charles - Charles Joel Hill, 83, of Clifton Springs, died April 23, 2004. Charles was born in Rosendale, Wisconsin on Christmas Day, 1920. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison with a degree in biochemistry. He served as a Naval Officer in the Pacific Theater during WW II, including action in the Philippines, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. His career was spent in the food manufacturing business, including management, in domestic firms in California, New Jersey, New York, Honduras, Sweden, Iran, China, Ukraine, Ecuador. He was a school board member, and member of the Presbyterian Church of Lyons and Ontario. He is survived by four children, Theodore of Los Osos, CA,Russell (Joan) of Powell, OH, George (Debbie) of Sunnyvale, CA, Margaret of Penfield; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A service will be held May 1 at 11 a.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, 120 East Main St., Palmyra.

McKenna, Lucille - Lucille VanHall McKenna, 94, formerly of Marion and Rochester, died April 12, 2004 in Peoria, Arizona. She was born March 12, 1910 in Marion the daughter of the late Peter C. and Fannie VanHall. She was married to the late Walter J. McKenna Jr. who predeceased her in July 2002. She was also predeceased by her son, Robert E. Mckenna in 1967; two sisters, Irene McKay and Marian Johnson; and a brother, Marvin VanHall. She is survived by three sons, Herbert G. (Janet) McKenna of Pheonix, Arizona, Hugh E. (Diana) McKenna of Oswego, and Ronald W. (Barbara) McKenna of North Chili; a daughter, Anita (Col. Thomas) Schaefer of Peoria, Arizona; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara McKenna Burns of Ithaca. Also a brother, Ernest VanHall of NY; a sister, Eunice Sweezey of Florida; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Wayne Mitchelle of Fairport. She is also the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He worked for Williams Beverage Co. in Lyons for many years and retired from Borden Can Co. of Lyons after 20 years. He did many hours of volunteer work for the Wayne County Nursing Home. He was an active member of St. Michael's Church and served in the Army during World War II; he was a member of Lyons VFW and Lyons American Legion. He is survived by his son, Duane A. He was predeceased by sons Herbert Jr. and Thomas, and his brother, Richard. Interment will be April 23 at East Newark Cemetery on Vienna Street.

Drave, Melvin - Melvin R. Drave, 84, of Newark, died April 9, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Melvin was born July 9, 1919 in Marion to John and Sarah Vander Post Drave. He graduated from Marion High School and worked as a Grocery Manager at Loblaws in Newark for 37 years. After leaving Loblaws he and his wife ran the Draves Food Market in Walworth for 10 years. After retirement they went to Hawaii for 16 years, returning in 1999. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. He was a Marine Corps veteran, having served in the South Pacific during WWII. He is survived by his of 52 years, Irene VanWaes Drave; sons Stephen Drave of New Jersey, Scott (Mary) Drave of Newark; granddaughter Candice; sisters-in-law Rachael Drave of Marion, and Lorraine Hartnagel of Marbletown; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.

Fyderek, Irene - Irene Louise Fyderek, 83, of Newark, died April 8, 2004 at Newark Hospital. She was born January 25, 1921 in Winchester, Connecticut, to Ezra and Elizabeth Woodhull Randall. She was an LPN for Newark State School and Clifton Springs Hospital. She did volunteer work for Newark Hospital and attended East Palmyra Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Lyons and had lived in Lyons from 1972-81 and in Newark for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Carole (David) Drake of Lee Center, and Virginia Drake of Floyd; a son, Richard (Connie) Turk of Ontario; a brother, F. Gilbert Randall of FL; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in April 1980 by her husband, Henry, and by her son, James Edward in 1950. Interment is in South Lyons Cemetery.

Morse, Vivian - Vivian June Morse, 72, of Newark, died April 9, 2004. She was born April 1, 1932 in Homer, to Lester and Elizabeth Wilkins. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Morse, Sandy (Russell) Carlson, Ron Morse, Patti (Rick) Betine, Dawn (David) Comden, Donna (Scott) Francis; son-in-law Marty Douglass; daughter-in-law Laurie DeVay; 18 grandchildren; brother, Claire (Sandy) Wilkins; brother-in-law Bruce (Gilda) Ayer; sisters-in-law, niece and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Douglas, her parents, brother Russell Wilkins, and sister Shirley Ayer.

DeWeaver, Frances - Frances E. DeWeaver, 82, of Palmyra, died April 8, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Edward DeWeaver, Sr.; children Edward DeWeaver, Jr., of Port Charlotte, FL, Linda (Nelson) Cook, Palmyra, Richard (Barb Johnson), Ontario; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; great-great grandson; brother, Russell (Catherine) Bodine of Newark; nieces and nephews. Interment in Port Gibson Cemetery.

Smith, Elizabeth - Elizabeth A. Smith, 76, died April 10, 2004, after suffering a stroke. She is survived by son Vernon A. (Alice M.) Smith of Greenfield, TN; daughters Jacqueline A. (Robert) Ray, Karen E. (David A.) Dennie, Betty J. Whyman and Paul DeMay, all of Palmyra; Nella A. (Mike) Bloomstrom of Newark; brother Francis J. Rush of Palmyra and sister Shirley Koester of Lyons; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Interment is in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Smith, Mary Jane - Mary Jane Smith, 63, of Macedon, died April 10, 2004 at the House of John. She is survived by her husband, Douglas; daughter Michelle (Eric) Broekhuizen of Oswego; son Michael (Megan) Smith of Macedon; three grandsons; her parents Oscar and Minnie Roegiers of Macedon; brother Norman (Linda) Roegiers of Nakomis, FL; sisters Debbie (Bob) Johnson of Marion, Judy (Roger) Klauck of Henrietta; uncle Elmer Clark; cousins, nephews, nieces and many dear friends. Mary Jane was predeceased by brother William Roegiers. Interment is in the Marion Cemetery.

Carpenter, Hazel - Hazel Jane Carpenter, 79, of Lyons and Newfield, New Jersey, died April 10, 2004. Hazel was born November 15, 1924 in Newark, to Ralph and Stella Pecor Wallace. She is survived by her son, Kenneth, of New Jersey; daughter, Claudia Weeks of Phelps; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Matthys of Lyons; brother, Stanton Wallace; three nephews, several cousins. Interment is in South Lyons Cemetery.

Seymour, Milton - Milton Seymour, 79, of Phelps, died April 13, 2004.He was born October 9, 1924 in Batavia, to Milton H. and Annie Terry Seymour. He served in the Navy during WWII. Milton retired after 31 years from the State of New York. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at the Newark Developmental Center. He was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge in Buffalo, the Geneva American Legion and a life member of the Newark Elks Lodge. Milton is survived by his wife Irene; son, Gary (Joan) Seymour of Newark; and three grandchildren, Jessica (Howard), Logan and Cameron.

White, James - James L. White of Marion died April 1, 2004. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1430, where he was the Commander in 1952-53, and he was a WWII Veteran. He was a Rural Letter Carrier for 25 years, Post Office retiree, a farmer and lifetime resident of Marion. He was predeceased by his son, William and brother William, and parents. James is survived by his wife, Caroline; daughters, Margaret White of Williamson, and Mary (Jerry) McCabe of Prescott, AZ; son, Richard (Lee) White of Marion; seven grandchildren and three great-grandsons.

Erb, Alice - Alice Agnes Veronica O'Brien Erb, 70, of Marion, died April 7, 2004, with her loving family at her side. She was born April 11, 1933 in Rochester, to Margaret and Thomas O'Brien. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert G. Erb; children, Dianne (Rex) Fulkerson of Marion, Robert, Jr. (Kathy) of Clyde, Lisa (Tom) Hornsby of Newark, Suzanne (Stan Bostic) of Waterloo, Brian Erb of Marion, Tom (Michelle) Erb of Shortsville, Chris (Donya Lefever) DeGelleke of Clyde, Robin (Mike) Exford of Pavilion; grandchildren, Ryan Harder, Adam Erb, Ashley Erb, Emily (Jacob) Gray, Craig (Jamie) Hornsby, Rob and Dan Soggs, Scott Erb, Talana Erb; nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, special friends. She was predeceased by a special sister and friend Florence (Linwood) DeFisher; brother-in-law William Erb (Joyce Wiltsie); and her parents Thomas and Margaret. Calling hours are Saturday, April 10 from 1 to 4 at Stevens Funeral Home, Buffalo St., Marion. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. with Fred Coisman, Ph.D. officiating.

Moens, Justine - Justine M. Moens, 77, of Newark, died April 2, 2004 at the County Nursing Home. Justine was born July 26, 1926, in Newark, to Manly and Joanna Hackerman Burden. She operated a child care service and was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Dail) Graf of Newark; Kathie (Cliff) DeCann of Largo, FL; three grandchildren, John (Crystal) Kelley of Newark, Amy Pottorff of Seneca Falls, and Jessica Webb of Greece; sister-in-law, Hazel Burden of Clifton Springs; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1978 by her husband, Charles, and by her brother, George Burden, and sister, Eleanor DeMay. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Peterson, Paul - Paul Eric Peterson, 46, of Newark and Penfield, died April 4, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Paul was born March 20, 1958 in Newark, son of Levi and Lisa Peterson. He was a graduate of Midlakes High School and was a self-employed sub-contractor, doing carpet installation. He is survived by his daughter, Erika Peterson of Fairport; his mother, Lisa Peterson Strauch of Newark; his fiancee, Valeri Scrivens; Two sisters, Debra (Ted) Ginther of Palmyra and Rachel Strauch of Newark; two nieces, Jessica Ginther Tobin and Lydia Ginther; and nephew DeShon Jackson. He was predeceased in 1975 by his father, Levi Peterson.

Hubright, Jennie - Jennie (Sonneville) Hubright, 88, of Williamson, died April 4, 2004. She is survived by twin daughters, Marilyn (Kenneth) Miller of Williamson, Marlene (LaVern 'Bill') Mables of Williamson; son, LaVerne (Dorothy) Hubright of Rochester; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine (Robert) Standaert of Marion; brother, John (Lavina) Sonneville of East Williamson; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband, Walter Hubright. Interment, Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Vanderwall, Betty - Betty (Youngman) Vanderwall, 71, of Palmyra, died April 4, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Earl Vanderwall; two sons, Rickey Vanderwall of Manchester, Terry (Robin) Vanderwall of Palmyra; two daughters, Tina (William) Bounds of Clifton Springs, Tracy Vanderwall-Scheemaker of Palmyra; 10 great- grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; brother, James (Shirley) Youngman; sisters, Eleanor (Leo) Johnson, Dorothy Wager; cousins, Donald (Nancy) Storr, Robert (Nancy) Storr; brother-in-law, Roy (Martha) Vanderwall; nieces and nephews. Mark, Helen - Helen Kenfield Mark, 80, of Phelps, died April 4, 2004, at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic extended care unit. Helen is survived by her husband, Wallace Mark; sons, David (Joan) of Lyons, Dana of Portland, Oregon, Daryl (Rita) of Shortsville; four grandsons; two step-grandchildren; sister, Marjory (Walter) Jennings of South Glens Falls; and cousins. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Weyneth, Gerald 'Jack' - Gerald 'Jack' Myers Weyneth, 85, died April 4, 2004 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Jack was born August 18, 1918 in Clifton Springs, to Leigh and Ina Myers Weyneth. He graduated from the Clifton Springs High School and had worked in sales for Wilco Corp. in Niles, Indiana. He was a member of Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, the Sincerity Lodge #200 F&AM in Phelps since 1947, Grand Director of Ceremonies - OSY District in 1990, Corning Consistory, joining in 1954, Damascus Temple - AAONMS of Rochester, since 1963. There he served as Director of Director's Staff for five years. Jack was a member of Shrine Clubs in Geneva, Canandaigua, Penn Yan and Wayne County. He was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Rochester Court #3 and Royal Arch Masons in Geneva. He served during World War II, from May 1944 to December 1945, receiving the Purple Heart, Victory Medal, American Operations of Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a life member of American Legion - Seely B. Parrish Post in Phelps. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Weyneth; son Dennis (Valerye) Johnson of Brockport; daughters Linda Lincoln of Penfield, Carol Schrader of Batavia and Debbie Cali of Macedon; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother Howard (Gertrude) Weyneth of Florida; many nieces and nephews. Interment is in Whitney Cemetery in Seneca Castle.

Harrison, Irene - Irene Dorothy Harrison, 76, of Newark, died April 5, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. Mrs. Harrison was born November 19, 1929, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Walter and Irene Hood Kenyon. She was an avid card player and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She is survived by her children, Maureen (Walter) Rieckhof of Brampton, Ontario; Douglas (Susan) Harrison of Lexington, KY; Suanne (Christopher) Klahn of Newark; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband, George W.; and two brothers. Interment in Riverview Cemetery in Clifton Springs.

Gabel, Pauline - Pauline E. Gabel, 95, of Newark, died April 2, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Pauline was born August 31, 1908 in Lyons, daughter of Joseph and Anna Gabel. She was as a secretary for Wayne County, retiring from the Probation Department. She is survived by a niece, Edna Henry of Cypress, Texas; and friends from Park Place and the County Home. Her sister Frances predeceased her. Services will be held at 2 p.m. April 10 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Keeling, Vance - Vance Arthur Keeling, Sr., 62, of Newark, died April 5, 2004 at Newark-Wayne Hospital. Vance was born August 15,1941 in Oswego, to Arthur and Florence Capron Keeling. He retired from American Can Company in Fairport. He also worked at Pal-Mart as a cashier. He served in the Air Force, was a member of Arcadia Post 2883 of VFW, and the American Legion in Newark. He is survived by his son, Vance (Darlene) Jr. of Newark; daughter; Laurie Keeling of Buffalo; his companion and good friend, Roberta Cotton of Newark; step-father George Garner of Gastonia, NC; Uncle Paul Capron and Aunt Virginia Capron grandchildren, step-daughters, step-grandson, and daughter-in-law, Teresa Keeling. Interment will be in Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia, NC.

Strecker, Thornton - Thornton D. Strecker, 88, formerly of Oradell, NJ, died April 5, 2004 at the Clifton Springs home of his daughter, Barbara E. Rathbun. He is survived by his son, Thornton D. Strecker, Jr. of Albany, and his daughter Barbara E. Rathbun; two grandchildren, Bethany Joy Bruns of Detroit, Scott Allen Rathbun of Colchester, VT; brother, Allen Strecker of Virginia; several nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
