VerMeersch, Genevieve Gladys - Genevieve Gladys VerMeersch, 92, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center. Graveside funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday (Oct., 2) in Newark Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to one's favorite charity. Mrs. VerMeersch was born Nov. 19, 1911, in Rome, the daughter of Russell and Margaret Bowers Pelow. She retired from C.H. Stuart in 1974, where she had worked in the manufacturing of jewelry. Gladys was also a member of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by her two sons, Robert (Susan) of Newark and James (Sharon) of Charlotte, N.C.; four grandchildren, James Jr., Jeffrey and Todd VerMeersch and Jennifer Saylor; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Russell (Betty) Pelow of Waterloo and Richard Pelow of Rochester, three sisters, Hazel Lang of Buffalo, Alice Rickenbacker of Michigan and Dorothy Kamm of Rochester; a brotherin-law, John R. Stevenson of Rochester, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband,. Francis, in 1992; a brother, William Pelow; and four sisters, Margaret DiSanto, Louella Burns, Alma Stevenson and Ruth Morrissey. Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home is serving the family.

Sackett, Joan Ide - Joan Ide Sackett, 68, of Williamson, died September 29, 2004. She was a Xerox retiree and a member of the Pultneyville Reformed Church. In 1984, Joan fulfilled a lifelong dream and founded CAJA Morgans. She was a tireless promotor and ambassador of the Morgan horse breed and an active member of the New York State Morgan Horse Society (NYSMHS), serving as its President from 1994 to 1999 and the editor of its official newsletter for over ten years. Family and friends are invited to call at the Pultneyville Reformed Church, Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5, where a Celebration of her lfe will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. Private interment, Mt. Rest Cemetery, Bergen, NY. She is survived by her children, Brenda Sackett, Christine Sackette, Daniel (Victoria) Sackett, all of Williamson, Edward (Michelle) Sackette of Marion, Todd (Donna) Sackett) of Webster; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; brothers, Irving 'Tom' (Kathy) Ide of Marion, James (Linda) Ide of Newark; many nieces and nephews. Smith, Newt - Newt C. Smith, 68, of Newark, died September 28, 2004 in Rochester. He was born March 12, 1936 in Canandaigua, to Carl and Lottie Smith. He served in the Navy and graduated from RIT. He owned a communications business for more than 45 years. Newt was a member of Blue Knights Motorcycle Assn., Clifton Springs VFW, and Clifton Springs Fire Dept. He is survived by his children, Kim (Bob) Walker, Joette (Tony) Coluccci, Lisa Smith, Jill (Scott) Hess; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Bob (Susan) Smith and David Smith. He was predeceased by Elaine in 2000. Friends may call Friday, October 1, from 7 to 9 at the Patrick Funeral Home, 26 West Main St., Clifton Springs. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shortsville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Daryl Powell officiating. Interment will be in the Pioneer Cemetery. Granger, Mary - Mary S. Granger, 95, of Newark, died September 26, 2004. She was born January 8, 1909 in Elmira, daughter of the late Alexander and Ella Smith Granger. On both sides of her family, she had interesting ancestry. On her maternal side, she was a direct descendent of Governor John Winthrop of Massachusetts. On her paternal side she was a great, great, great granddaughter of Oliver Phelps, known for his participation in the Phelps-Gorham Purchase in western New York. Her great-great-grandfather was the Honorable Gideon Granger, postmaster general in the cabinets of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, and also built the Granger Homestead in Canandaigua, in 1816. Her paternal grandfather, J. Albert Granger, owned Granger Point on Canandaigua Lake and maternal grandfather, Theodore G. Smith in 1897 bought Whiskey Point also in Canandaigua Lake. The latter property had been the summer home of Miss Granger since babyhood and owned by her in 1969. Known primarily in this area as the first Library Director of the Wayne County Library System and the Ontario Cooperative Library System from 1956 to 1964 at which time she retired. She started her career in the Brooklyn Public Library in 1931. From 1944 to 1956 she held administrative library positions in Oyster Bay and in Westbury, Long Island. In the latter place she organized the Westbury Community Center Library for teenagers and adults and won top recognition in the United States from Library Public Relations Council for her work with teenagers. She also, was listed in the 1968 edition of Whos Who of American Women. A 1930 graduate of Elmira College, she held graduate degrees from Columbia University Library School and Institute of Adult Education, Teachers College, and Columbia. After twenty-five years in Brooklyn and Long Island, she returned to upstate New York in 1956 as the administrator in the Pioneer Library System, Representing Wayne and Ontario Counties. Miss Granger was a member of the Newark Country Club, Newark Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary, Elmira College Alumni Association, American Library Association, Canandaigua Lake Pure Waters, Granger Homestead Society, Chatterbox Club of Rochester and St. Marks Church in Newark Friends may attend a Funeral Service Sunday, October 10 at 4:30 p.m. at the Granger Homestead, 295 North Main Street, Canandaigua. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira. Arrangements entrusted to the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, inc., Newark, NY.

Huntley, Michael - Michael B. Huntley, 51, , died September 28, 2004 after a gallant battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). The founder and principal of Huntley Design, he was a 1980 magna cum laude graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts. Michael also taught as adjunct faculty in VCU's Department of Communication Arts and Design. A veteran of the United States Navy, Michael served his country aboard the USS San Diego from 1971-74. Michael is survived by his life-partner of seventeen years, William A. (Bill) Harrison, Jr. He is also survived by his mom, Allene Cook Huntley, and sisters: Ginny H. Virts and her husband Tony, Julie H. Sunser, Susan H. Yates, Nancy H. Mowers, and Shirley Huntley, all of New York state. He is also survived by 5 nieces, 4 nephews, 1 great niece, and 1 great nephew. Michael was predeceased by his father Bernard L. Huntley. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 30, at the Joseph Bliley Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Avenue, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, in Hollywood Cemetery. Smith, Irvin - Irvin L. Smith, 87, of Waverly, died September 26, 2004. Irvin was born September 7, 1917 in Regan, North Dakota, to Simon P. and Alice Gramling Smith. He owned and operated a dairy farm on Minsteed Road in the Town of Arcadia since 1958. Smith enjoyed country music, square dancing traveling and his farm animals. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Newark, Eastern Milk Producers, Country Cousins Square Dance of Newark, Victor Swing-A-Long of Victor, Just Single Friends of Newark and the Newark Senior Citizens. He will be remembered by his son James (Helen) Smith of Newark; daughters Janet LeFever of Moravia, and Mary Ellen (George) Segedi of Apalachin; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Margaret) Smith of Palmyra; sisters Irene DeMay of Waverly, and Marilyn Lilyea of Vestal; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Parker Smith in 1993 and a son-in-law Elmer LeFever in 1993; he was predeceased by his parents. Calling hours are Friday (Oct. 1) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Norman L. Kieper, David - David W. "Dave" Kieper, 18, of Williamson, died September 24, 2004 after a car accident. He was a 2004 graduate of Williamson High School and was working at Wessie Machine in Marion. He is survived by his parents, Wayne D. and Rachel (Aube) Kieper, and brother Kevin Kieper; grandparents, Vaudean Kieper of Williamson, Roland H. and Cecile Aube of Chili; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. He was predeceased by his grandfather, Carl H. Kieper. A celebration of Dave's life was held at the Bible Baptist Church in Williamson. Interment is in Sunnyside Cemetery, Williamson. Scarcelli, Natalie - Natalie G. Scarcelli, 77, of Lyons, died September 24, 2004. Nat was born Dec. 25, 1926, in Lyons, daughter of Dominick and Nellie Vitaro Greco. She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Lyons. She was an office manager for more than 30 years for the H.G. Hotchkiss Peppermint Co. in Lyons. She had been a telephone operator. She is survived by her husband, Joseph "Zip," son John (Patrice) of Lyons and grandson Jack of West Lebanon, NH; a sister, Rita Williams of Lyons; a brother, Edward Greco of Newark; nieces and nephews. Yancey, Thelma - Thelma A. Yancey, 90, of North Rose, died September 25, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband, George; three children, Geff of Rochester, John of Pittsford and Susan (David) VanAcker of North Rose; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and special friends. She and her husband were the founders of Heluva Good Cheese. Calling hours are Sept. 28, 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main St., Sodus. Funeral Services will be Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at the North Rose United Methodist Church, Route 414, North Rose. Interment will be held in the Rose Cemetery. Armitage, Joseph - Joseph Thomas Armitage, 74, of Phelps, died Sept. 24, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark, surrounded by his loving family. Joseph was born March 16, 1930, in Indiana, son of William and Martha Armitage. He grew up in Scotland, returning to the Geneva-Phelps area, where he had lived most of his life. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed by the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva. He enjoyed traveling the open road on his BMW motorcycle, gardening, and being outdoors. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca (Gerald) O'Donnell of Canandaigua, Robin (Ron) Brown of Newark, and Rhonda (Bill) Adams of Newark; a son, R. Steven (Sue) Goodman of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his personal angel, Ron VanHousen. He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy; sister, Elizabeth 'Betty' Kolbeck; brother, William Armitage. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Eacker Funeral Home, 47 Main St. in Phelps. Ciardi, Thomas - Thomas L. Ciardi, 54, of Webster, formerly of Clifton Springs, died Sept. 22, 2004 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Tom was born Jan. 11, 1950 in Clifton Springs, son of Chip and Eileen Ciardi. He lived in the Clifton Springs area most of his life. He was employed by the Newark and Webster Post Offices and at Xerox in Webster. Tom and his family owned and operated the Town Pump Restaurant in Orleans. A memorial service celebrating his life will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26 at the Patrick Funeral Home, 26 W. Main St., Clifton Springs. He is survived by his children, Roan (Bianca) Ciardi of AZ and Tae (Andy) Smith of VA; four grandchildren; brother, Ronald Ciardi of Clifton Springs; three aunts, Leisa Volte, Patricia (Phil) D'Arduini and Terry Herzog; an uncle, Babe (Elsie) Ciardi; and several nieces and cousins.

Biermann, Delinda - Delinda J. (Looney) Biermann of Venice, FL, formerly of Toccoa, GA, and wife of former Newark resident Rev. Robert S. Biermann, died September 21, 2004 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Delinda was a member at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church where her husband was the pastor. She was an active participant and leader in the churches thrift shop, and sewed a number of the vestments used in their services. The Requiem Mass will be September 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Sarasota, 1900 Meadowood Street in Florida, with the Most Reverend Walter Grundorf, Archbishop of the Anglican Province of America, officiating. Interment and graveside service will be held in Toccoa, GA.

Geise, Mary - Mary A. Geise, 62, of Newark, died September 22, 2004. Mary was born in Newark on November 13, 1941, daughter of Albert and Margaret Rogers Orbaker. In her earlier years she worked for Garlock in Palmyra. She is survived by her husband, Donald E.; two sons, James of Lyons and Todd of Buffalo; two grandchildren; two brothers, Albert and David Orbaker of Newark; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Tomes. Calling hours are September 24 from 1-2 p.m. at Schultz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Court, Newark. Thompson, Roy - Samuel LeRoy 'Roy' Thompson, 94, formerly of Newark, died September 21, 2004 at the Newark-Manor Nursing Home. He was born March 12, 1910 in Lyons, to Samuel J. and Maude Williams Thompson. For many years, Roy was a printer working in the Print Shop of C.H. Stuart, Inc. in Newark, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Gertrude of Newark and several nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by three brothers - Harvey, Robert, and Marvin Thompson. Calling hours are noon to 1 on September 23 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. The funeral at 1 p.m. will be officiated by the Rev. Steven Matteson. Clara was born on April 13, 1915, in the Town of Arcadia, daughter of Engelbert and Emma Stuffyn VanDeVelder. She is survived by a son Herly (Esther) Bouwens of Newark and daughter Joanna Fremouw and friend Gary of Rochester, daughter-in-law Dorothy Bouwens of Palmyra, 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Simmons, Barbara - Barbara Ann (Gregory) Simmons, 42, of East Palmyra, died suddenly on September 17, 2004. Barbara was born December 18, 1961 in Potsdam, to Lawrence and Janice Chadbourne Gregory. She graduated from Indian Central High School and Jefferson Lewis Vocational and Technical Center, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She worked at the Finger Lakes DDSO, Cobblestone 101. She loved to read and had hundreds of books in her home. Barb is survived by Duane, her husband of 23 years; son James Simmons; parents Lawrence and Janice Gregory of Florida; sister Susan (Norman) Danforth of Newark; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Christopher, daughter Christina, and brother David. Calling hours are Tuesday (Sept. 21) from 6 to 9 at the Norman L. Greene, Charles - Charles Edward Greene, Sr., 72, of Newark, died unexpectedly on September 17, 2004. Charles was born April 19, 1932 in Tioga, PA, son of the late Percy and Helen Greene. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 after 20 years. Charlie worked and retired from the Newark Developmental Center and Spinco Metal Products in Newark. He was a life member of the Palmyra VFW. He enjoyed football, hunting, fishing and coin collecting, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Lois Swartz Greene; sons Charles Jr. (Amy) of Tennessee, Fred and girlfriend Tammy of Newark, Michael and girlfriend Ame of Geneva; daughters Robin (Charles) DePoty of Rochester, Yvonne (David) Lotta of Brockport, Jane (Charles) Waldron of Watertown, and Diane Turner and friend Mike Ravashiere of Newark; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Sue) Greene of Rochester; sisters Ruth Colgrove of Pennsylvania, Thelma (Jim) Robinson of Florida, Mazie Pope of Clyde, Betty Abbey of Adison, and Sandy; nieces and nephews. Rich, Charles - Charles A. Rich, Sr., 62, of Newark, died September 18, 2004. Charles was born Oct. 18, 1941, in Buffalo, son of the late Andrew and Christine Rich. He formerly lived in Phelps. He was retired from the Newark Developmental Center, was a member of St. Michael's Church in Newark and the Newark Elks Lodge, former administration board member of the local CSEA. He is survived by his wife, Olga; daughters, Mary (Bill) Whalen of Newark, and Sarah (Michael) Daubman of Poughkeepsie; sons, Paul Mayo of Newark and Charles Rich, Jr. of Newark; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Rich and William Rich; nieces and nephews. Veley, Beatrice - Beatrice M. Veley, 83, of Sodus, died September 17, 2004. She was predeceased by her companion George Dickson and her brothers and sisters. McGuire, Donald - Donald J. McGuire, 81, of Palmyra, died September 16, 2004. He is survived by his children, George (Melissa) McGuire, Pat (Ron) Nortz and Margaret McGuire, and four grandchildren. He was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Dorothy. Don was a World War 11 Army Air Corps Veteran, and a 58-year member of the James R. Hickey American Legion Post #120 in Palmyra. Calling hours are Thursday, Sept. 23, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the McGuire/Hargrave & Murphy Funeral Home, 123 East Jackson Street in Palmyra, where a Memorial Service will be held at 6:30. Sweeney, Marcia - Marcia Colgrove Sweeney, 92, of Phelps, died September 17, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. She is survived by her husband John; two sons, John F. Jock, Earl - Earl E. Jock, 63, of Sodus, died September 15, 2004. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Pembroke) Jock; sons, Joseph and Ray Jock; brothers, Herman George Jock, Jr. and James (Shirley) Jock; sisters, Margaret (Roland) Guerria, Beatrice (Terry) Woodhams, Ruth DePaepe, Frances (Gene) Shippers, Patricia (Arthur) Mayeu, and Nellie; nieces and nephews. LaCoursiere, Helen Jane - Helen Jane LaCoursiere (formerly Helen J. Schul and Helen J. Waeghe) of Barefoot Bay, Florida, formerly of Marion, died suddenly from congestive heart failure at the home of her son in Chesterfield, MO on September 5, 2004. Mrs. LaCoursiere was visiting the St. Louis area to flee Hurricane Frances. Helen was married to Alfred LaCoursiere of Worchester, MA, from 1976-2000, when Fred passed away from brain cancer. Helen was previously married to Robert C. Schul of Niagara Falls, NY, from 1945-1974, when Bob passed away from a stroke. Helen is survived by: her son, Richard J. Schul of Chesterfield, MO (daughter-in- law Geralyn M. Schul) and grandchildren Robert (Brad) Schul and Angela N. Schul); her son Thomas R. Schul of Marion (daughter-in-law Hope Schul) and grandchild Christine Schul; and brother, Edwin Waeghe of Sodus. There will be a funeral mass at 1 p.m. at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, 3806 Union St, Marion, followed by a burial at the Marion Cemetery and reception at the American Legion Post #1430, 4141 Witherden Road, Marion. She is survived by her husband, Wayne; three children, Crystal Davis of Wolcott, James Allen of Sodus, Amy Allen of Sodus; five grandchildren; her mother, Doris DeVoogt of Sodus; three sisters, Nellie DeVoogt Young of Sodus, Gail Gelina of Williamson and Beverly Allen of Williamson. Schnitzler, Cora - Cora A. Schnitzler, 90, of Palmyra, died September 12, 2004. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Beverly McKee of Lyons; grandchildren Sandra McKee of Newark, Michael McKee of Palmyra, Chet McKee of Newark, Bill McKee of Newark; one step-granddaughter and four great-grandchildren. Stockman, Peter W. - Peter W. Stockman, 87, of Fairville, died September 12, 2004 at Newark Hospital. Peter was born December 27, 1916 in Sodus, son of Peter J. and Cora (DenDecker) Stockman. He owned and operated his family farm near Fairville for 56 years. He also retired from Garlock Corp. in Palmyra in 1982 after working 32 years. He served the U.S. as a Company Motor Sergeant in World War II with the 45th Tank Battalion of the 13th Armored Division, The Black Cats. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in action while serving in Central Europe. The funeral home flew the Army Flag in honor of his service. He was a charter member of the Fairville Volunteer Fire Dept. and a member of the Newark VFW. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bertha (VanHaneghem) Stockman; sons Peter (Sharon) Stockman, Jr. of Geneva and Keith J. Spade, Raymond - Raymond Donald Spade, 87, of Newark, died September 13, 2004 at the Living Center South in Geneva after a long struggle. Raymond was born February 5, 1917 in North Rose to Michael and Elizabeth Trombley Spade. He was raised in Newark and later married Katherine VanKouwenberg. He worked at Garlock Corp. for 15 years. He retired from Parker Hannifin in Clyde and from Newark Central School District where he was a School Bus Monitor for 12 years. He will always be remembered by his daughters Elaine (Richard) Schutt of Phelps and Bonnie (Edward) Cooney of Newark; sons Richard (Angelia) Spade of Rochester and Gary Spade of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brother Clayton Spade of South Carolina; sister Dorothy DiLeo of Clyde; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Clayton, in 1994.

Pitzeruse, James Raymond - James Raymond Pitzeruse of Canandaigua died Saturday, September 11, 2004. Friends may call Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Pusateri Funeral Home, Sodus St., Clyde. He had lived in Canandaigua for over 20 years. Shuler, Richard - Richard Shuler, 74, of Newark, died September 3, 2004, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Dick was born October 7, 1929 in Lyons, to Dale and Evelyn Oach Shuler. He retired from Chevron Asphalt Company in Lyons. Dick was a communicant of St. Michael Church and sang in its choir. He had served in the US Army. Dick is survived by his wife of 33 years, Henny; stepdaughter Lenor Dellosso of Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren Lacinda Javier and Larry Striker; three great grandchildren; brother, Robert Shuler of CA; and several nieces and nephews. Johnson, Geraldine - Geraldine ('Gerry') Johnson, of Lyons, 76, died September 4, after a long illness. Gerry was born December 2, 1927 in Sodus, daughter of Clayton and Helen Halcus. She was an employee of Garlock for twenty years and a past president of the Lyons VFW Ladies Auxiliary for several years. Gerry is survived by her husband of 56 years, Merle; her daughter, Linda (Dennis) Paliotti; daughter-in-law, Kathy Johnson; grandchildren, Michael (Melanie) Paliotti of CA, Brian (Tina) Paliotti of Rochester, and Kristy Johnson of Lyons; and great-grandchildren, Janelle, Aidan, Kayla, and Abigayle. She was predeceased by her parents Clayton and Helen and her son, Robert.

Thibeau, Andrea - Andrea E. ('Anne') Thibeau, 65, of Clyde, died September 7, 2004 at the Newark Hospital. Anne was born June 14, 1939 in Jamestown, daughter of Cyrielle and Maybelle Robb Peterson. She was a waitress in Texas, Florida and New York. She had lived in Newark for 10 years and in Clyde for two. She is survived by William (Diane) Frank of Lyons; and James (Cathy) Frank of Clyde; brothers, Dwight Peterson of Texas and Elliott Peterson of Alaska; and five grandchildren. Wind, Kevin - Kevin Thomas Wind, 11, of Palmyra died August 28, 2004 as a result of an accident. Kevin was born January 13, 1993 in Rochester, the son of David W. and Kathleen Fyles Wind. He had completed the 5th grade at St. Michael School in Newark. Kevin was a smart young man, repairing things around home and solving problems beyond his years. He enjoyed drawing and playing baseball. His true love was for football and he was a member of the Newark Junior Reds football team. Kevin will always be remembered by his parents, Dave and Kathleen Wind; and by his brother Michael; maternal grandmother Marion Fyles of Palmyra; paternal grandmother Bernadine Wind of Webster; many aunts, uncles and cousins, including a special aunt, Judy Hitchcock of Fairport. Fitch, Edward - Edward Eugene Fitch, 92, of Newark, died August 26, 2004 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Edward was born September 15, 1911 in North Rose to Charles and Sarah Spade Fitch. He was a cook at the Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1976. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and the Albright Brotherhood. He enjoyed his family and woodworking. Edward is survived by his wife, Rose Case Fitch; sons Richard (Delores) Fitch of Illinois and James (Donna) Fitch of Fairport; daughter Helen Smith of Newark; 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews. Thompson, Victoria Lynn - Vicki Thompson, 49, of Newark, died September 1, 2004 at her home. Victoria was born December 15, 1954 in Newark, daughter of Glenn and Martha Dobbelaere Provost. She graduated from Nazareth College in 1982 with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. A Registered Nurse, Vicki had worked at the Newark Developmental Center since 1975. She was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge and was awarded the honor of 'Elk of the Year' in 2003. Vicki is survived by Michael, her husband of 29 years; daughter, Leslie Thompson of Charlotte, NC; her mother, Martha Provost of Newark; a sister, Paula Provost and husband Joseph Simmons, of Redondo Beach, California; a brother, Rodney Fay of Rochester, three nieces and two nephews. Bendix, Robert - Robert Bendix, 87, of Newark, died Aug. 31, 2004 at the Newark Hospital. Bob was born May 23, 1917 in Far Rockaway, son of Paul and Walli (Bendix) Bendix. After graduating from the Packard Business School in New York City in 1936, he became an insurance underwriter. He retired in 1979, after 10 years with the Home Federal Savings and Loan in Webster, where he was a Vice President and Manager. Bob was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and sang in its choir. He was involved with the T.I.C., the Together in Christ organization. A timpani player, he was instrumental in the founding of the Penfield and the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestras. He was on the steering committee that organized the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance and served on its board of directors for several years. He had been a member of the Penfield Rotary Club. Bob volunteered for Office of the Aging, at the House of John, and the Shelter for Battered Women. During World War II, Major Bendix served as an intelligence officer. He was in charge of a German prisoner of war camp in the United States. In his retirement, he wrote the book Innspiration Northeast, a guide to inns in the northeastern United States. He is survived by Elizabeth ('Betty'), his wife of 60 years; sons Steven (Rita) of Arlington, Vermont and Robert, Jr., (Jean) of Newark; daughters Linda (Paul) French of Prattsburg, Anne (Thomas) Wunder of Penn Yan, Jean (Robert) Williams of Phelps, Karen (David) True of Newark, Elissa Hemming of East Rochester; 16 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Robinson, Clifford - Cliffford A. 'Scoop' Robinson, 85, of Newark, died August 28, 2004. Clifford was born in the Town of Lyons on December 26, 1918 to Charles and Pearl Oakleaf Robinson. He was a machine operator at Fold-Pak for more than 43 years, retiring in 1997. He was a long time Member and Past Exalter Ruler of the Newark Elks Lodge #1249. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and served in the US Army during World War II. 'Scoop' is survived by his wife Shirley; two sons Michael (Carol) of Chili and Steven (Brenda) of Newark, a daughter Christy Robinson of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Arbogast of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Kevin, sister Mildred Ziegler, and brothers Howard 'Pete' and William. Burial in Newark Cemetery.

Lagenor, Margaret - Margaret H. (Peg) Lagenor, 85, of Newark, died August 29, 2004. Peg was born October 15, 1918 in Newark, daughter of Peter and Mary DePorter Blondell. She worked at Galock's in Palmyra for more than 25 years. She is survived by daughter, Janice (Jim) Finn of Macedon; son, Gary (Diana) of Newark; sister, Leona Cox of Florida; brother, Ken (Betty) Blondell of Newark; seven grandchildren - Stephanie (Matt) Cass, Jennifer (Todd) Tones, Peter (Kristen) Lagenor, Brad Lagenor, Michael (Mary) Finn, Matthew and Christina Finn; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Frank Sinack; brother-in-law, Douglas (Dorothy) Lagenor. She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband, Stewart, and by her sister Florence, and brother, Arthur. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2883 of Newark. Cataldi, Mary J. - Mary J. Cataldi, 92, formerly of Lyons, died August 28, 2004. Mary was born Feb. 29, 1912 in Lyons, daughter of John and Antoinette Abbazia Ferndino. She was a member of St. Michael's Church. She retired from Kenmore-Parker Hannifin Co. after more than 20 years. She is survived by a son, Donald (Carol) of Lyons; a daughter, Fran (Ed) Rosen of Fairport; a brother, Joseph Ferndino of Lyons; six grandchildren, David (Annette) Cataldi, Patricia Cataldi, Donald (Dana) Cataldi, Ann (Patrick) Gleason; Christine (Steve) Andrews, and Kurt (Jennifer) Rosen; 12 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in October 1964 by her husband, Amelio 'Curly,' and by brothers Frank and John Ferndino, and one sister. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Hering, James - James P. Hering Sr., 72, of Winder, Georgia, died August 16, 2004, after a long illness. He was born in Newark, a son of the late Althea Schinsing Hering. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54 and was retired from Colonial Packaging, where he was vice president of the company. He was a Presbyterian. Survivors are his wife, Carol Hering, children, Linda Patterson of Covington, the Rev. James Hering, Jr., of Hodges, SC, Steven Hering of Lawrenceville, and Mark Hering of Tallahassee, FL; and five grandchildren.

Elvin, Robert - Robert M. Elvin, 69, died August 27, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; children, Michael (Darcy) Elvin, Mark (Sheryl) Elvin, Maureen (John) Denniston, Matthew (Michelle) Elvin and Melissa (Mike) Elvin; stepchildren, Richard (Donna) Werner, Taffy (Pat) Carroll and Rhonda (Steve) Werner, sisters, Mary (Jack) Dalton and Margaret Mammoser and 16 grandchildren. McKinney, Hazel - Hazel Helen McKinney, 86, died Aug. 26, 2004 after a long illness. Hazel was born April 2, 1918, daughter of Martin G. and Elsie Mae Martin Malbone. After the deaths of their parents, Hazel helped raise her younger siblings. She is survived by her daughters, S.B. McKinney of Alton and Sharon I. Taylor of Sykesville, MD; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Wright of Phelps and Natalie McKinney of Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Miner Martin McKinney; her son, William; two brothers, John and Livingstone; and four sisters, Celia Simmons, Elizabeth Melbone, Ida Dudley and Lillian Brown. A graveside service was held in the Rose Cemetery, with the Rev. William H. Peterson officiating.

Conlin, Charles - Charles Edwin Conlin, 70 of Newark, died August 27, 2004 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Charles was born February 16, 1934, in Albany, to Joseph and Florence Dickinson Conlin. He worked for 32 years as a machinist for the Garlock Company of Palmyra. Charles served in the Army from 1951-59. He was a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post 2883, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post #286. He was a greeter at Wal-Mart. He is survived by his wife, Katherine McCollum Conlin; five sons: Charles W. Conlin, James DeGraff, Joseph Conlin, Andrew Conlin, Kenneth Conlin; three stepsons, Thomas (Christine) McKinney and James (Seana) McKinney; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a brother, William (Patricia) Conlin; and three sisters, Katherine Pagan, Thelma Wilcox and Ruth (William) Herman. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jane Keller and Mary Capron. Interment with full military rites will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Cottrell, Betty - Betty (Farman) Cottrell, 88 of Sodus, died August 30, 2004, joining her husband, Wilford C. (Bill) Cottrell. She is survived by a special sister, Florence Umphrey of Sodus; her brother, Floyd 'Ben' Farman of Newark, cousins and friends. Betty and Bill operated Cottrell Nursery and Orchards, and Christmas Tree Farm for many years. Betty was a benefactor of the Sodus Center Christian School. Interment in the Baptist Rural Cemetery, Sodus Center.

Allen, Ellis - Ellis Allen, 84, of Clifton Springs, died August 28, 2004 after a long illness. Ellis was born July 12, 1920 on the Isle of Man (British Isles), the son of James and Mildred Godden-Smith Allen. They came to the United States in 1925. He owned and operated Allen Heating & Plumbing, along with several other businesses, before retiring. He is survived by his wife Lois; a sister, Mary (Karl) Schaup of Waterloo; nieces and nephews; and good friend, Marion (Lowell) Maxwell. He was predeceased by his brother John.

Schaap, Dorothy - Dorothy V. Schaap, 80, of East Williamson, died August 31, 2004. She is survived by two daughters, Janet (George) Reiss, Sharon (Herbert) Guck; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Donna Vasseur and Barbara Raybrouck; nieces, and nephews and special friend, David Crane. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; son-in-law, Frank A. Crucial; and brothers, Eugene and LaVerne Vasseur. Interment in East Williamson Cemetery.

Potter, William - William 'Bill' Potter, 77 of Newark, died August 31, 2004. Bill was born April 10, 1927 in Avoca to Herman and Josie Hyna Potter on. 'Cowboy' loved anything with a Western theme. He also loved camping and horseback riding. Bill had a great collection of John Wayne movies. He had collected many Special Olympic medals. Bill will be remembered by his brothers Frank Potter of Gainsville, Edgar Potter of NC, Alton Potter of Savona and Kenneth Potter of Perry; sisters Dorothy Andrews, Nellie Losey both of Bath, Frances Wright of Elmira and Janice Potter of Horseheads; many nieces and nephews including his favorite niece Mary Lafler. Bill was predeceased by his parents, and brother Herman Jr. and sister Ruth. Burial in Highland Cemetery in Avoca.

Foss, Jacob - Jacob Foss, 92, died September 1, 2004 at the Missouri Veterans Home. Jacob was born December 24, 1911 in Ontario to Orrie and Susan (Stockman) Foss. He had moved six years ago from Newark to Miller, Missouri, after retiring as groundskeeper and chauffeur for the Hallagan family. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Elks Lodge. Jacob married C. Dorothy (Lamas) on Novemter 11, 1933 in Ontario. She died on March 24, 1988. He was predeceased by one daughter, both parents, and two brothers. He is survived by one son, James Jacob Foss of Clyde; one daughter, Virginia Harrsch, Miller, Missouri; half brother, Father Lawrence Murphy, Rochester; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Foss will be buried in Newark.

English, Francis L. - Francis 'Frank' English, 80, of Newark, died August 24, 2004 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Frank was born January 21, 1924 in Canandaigua. For many years, he was a printer for Case Hoyt Corp. in Rochester. During World War II, Frank was a paratrooper; he landed in Normandy on D-Day and served the remainder of the war in France and Germany. Frank is survived by two sons, Richard (Yvonne) of Marion and Randy (Jane) of Lyons, six grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters and nieces and nephews. Interment, East Newark Cemetery.

Vanderlyke, Harold - Harold Vanderlyke, 85, of VanWickle Road, Lyons, died August 22 at his home. Harold was born May 10, 1919 in Palmlyra, to Herbert and Elizabeth Fremouw Vanderlyke. He was a life-long farmer. He is survived by his brother, Howard (Mildred) of Lyons; sisters - Elizabeth Eckert of Lyons and Margaret (Robert) Brown of Chapin; sister-in-law Gladys Vanderlyke of Newark; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Greenstreet, Letha - Letha V. Greenstreet, 89, of Newark, died August 23, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Letha was born December 26, 1914 in Macon County, Missouri, to Ransford and Ivy Parr Payton. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Elmer, Missouri. She is survived by two sons - Willis of Durham, NC and Franklin (Mary) of Elmer, Missouri; daughter, Sheryl (Ben) Wood of Marion; sister Amy Rainer of Missouri; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Greenlaw, David - David S. Greenlaw, 84, of Macedon, died August 21, 2004. He was predeceased by his wife, Wilma (Thomas) Greenlaw. He is survived by his children, Thomas, Deborah/Ama (Bruce) Merla and Martha (Raymond) Beato; grandchildren, Rebecca, Katherine and David Greenlaw, Joshua and Jenna Watson, Christina Marriott, and James Beato; great-grandson, Benjamin Watson; brothers, John (Virginia) Greenlaw and Robert (Louisa) Greenlaw. He retired in 1984 from Eastman Kodak as vice president of Corporate Commercial Affairs, and as president of Eastman Technologies after 43 years. Interment will be in Auburn, Maine.

Russell, Allen - Allen Russell, 81, of Newark, died August 18, 2004 at DeMay Living Center. Allen was born April 8, 1923 in Rochester to Allen and Dietra Maunder Russell. He was a member the Alton United Methodist Church. He is survived by his brother Harold Russell; sisters Beverly Barber and Rose Mary Steffen; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers William and Irvin, sisters Anita, Irene and Marilyn. Private burial in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Clingerman, Ruth - Ruth B. Clingerman, 70, of Lyons, died August 20, 2004. Ruth was born August 20, 1934, in Rochester, to Robert and Mildred Harper Bradbury of Wolcott. Ruth graduated from Leavenworth Central School in 1952 and from the Eastman Dental School in 1954. In 1954 she married Milford 'Max' Clingerman, and the couple made their home in Lyons. Ruth worked as a dental hygienist in Phelps. Friends always surrounded her, drawn in by her humor, good nature and amusing stories. She was a charter member of the Wayne Hills Country Club, where she served as the president of the Women's Association and secretary/treasurer of the Women's Tri-County Golf Association. She served as a leader of the Lyons Junior Girl Scout troop. She was in the Republican Party as a committee member of the Town of Lyons, a research assistant for Assemblyman James Hurley, and a Deputy Commissioner of the Wayne County Board of Elections. She is survived by her children, Matthew (Joseph O'Toole) Clingerman of Newark; Marianne (Mark) Stephan of Wolcott; Michael (Beth VanGee) of Lyons; grandchildren, Brittney and Michael Clingerman; sisters-in-law, Jeanette and Veronica Clingerman; special friend, Luther Robinson; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1995 by her husband, Milford, and by her parents.

Crane, Vincent - Vincent L. Crane, 82, of Marion, died August 20, 2004. He was predeceased by his parents, Myron and Grace; brother, Myrville and sister, Bernice Dunk. Vincent was a World War II veteran. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Wilma; a son, Stepheh (Regina) Crane of Lake City, FL; daughter, Donna (Robert) Smith of Friendship, NY; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Grabb of Rochester; sister in-law, Phyllis Crane of Rochester; several nieces and nephews.

Castor, Ella - Ella Schuyler Castor, 84, of Lyons, died August 25, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband, John Raymond, and a son, John Arthur. Surviving her are her children, Joan Castor Fox; Mary Ruth Hughes; Jeanne Motkowski; Jack Jr.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. VanCamp, James - James D. VanCamp, 73, of Phelps, died August 16, 2004, at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Naomi Ford VanCamp; children, Alan (Rob Gary) VanCamp of Brockport, Kevin (Tammy) VanCamp of Phelps, Mark (Laurie) VanCamp of Phelps; three grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren; a brother, Francis VanCamp of Phelps; sister-in-law, Elsie VanCamp of Phelps; three aunts, Carrie VanHemel, Lucille Dickens, Edith VanCamp; nieces and nephews. Schmidhammer, Pvt. 1st Class Jayme - Pvt. 1st Class Jayme R. Schmidhammer, 20, of Arcadia, died suddenly Sunday, August 8, 2004 while stationed at Ft. Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas. In memory of Pvt. 1st Class Schmidhammer, in lieu of flowers, cards and donations please plant a tree. Jayme was born July 28, 1984 in Rochester, New York. He graduated from Newark High School in 2002. Jayme went to Ft. Jackson in South Carolina for his basic training and then was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso. His training was for Patriot Missile Launch. He completed his AIT and was going to start college classes this month. Jayme enjoyed BMX bikes and helped raise money for the Newark Skate Park. He loved to draw and being around his friends. He was great for giving advice about life and giving encouragement. The family gives a special thank to the Naschkes and Guilliams families for their love and support. Jayme will be missed by his parents, Raymond and Christine Schmidhammer of Arcadia; his mother Debra Shea of Florida; brothers Jerad Schmidhammer and Joshua Kommer; sisters Jessica, Carmen and Nicole Kommer; paternal grandparents Robert and Patti Schmidhammer of Rochester; maternal grandmother Ernestine Herbert of Rochester; step-grandparents Ellsworth and Elaine Cowley of Marion; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Hamilton, Helen Neff - Helen Neff Hamilton, 94, of Springhill Senior Living Center, Erie, and formerly of Newark, died August 11, 2004. She was born November 27, 1909 in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Calvin and Elizabeth Ziegler Neff. She graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in Dietary Management and was employed at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Following her retirement she volunteered as a consultant in dietary needs at Park Place, enriched senior housing in Newark. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and was an avid Bridge player and reader. Helen was part of the original group of people who raised money to build the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, which opened in 1957. Sophie Ziegler, retired hospital administrator, said, 'Helen was a very good friend of the hospital, both during her years as dietitian, and after retirement, as she continued to spend many hours as a volunteer.' She was predeceased in 1978 by her husband, Robert H. Hamilton, former Courier-Gazette advertising manager. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Helen McDonald, and her husband, Attorney James McDonald, of Erie; two grandchildren, Shannon Hamilton McDonald (Howard Rosenstein) of Southborough, MA, and Erin Brady (Edward) Rowley of Edinboro, PA; four great-grandchildren, Samuel Brady Rosenstein, Cassidy Hamilton Rowley, James Martin Rowley, and Keagan McDonald Rowley.

  Van De Walle, Judy - Judy Van De Walle, 55 of Blue Cut Road, Newark, died August 11, 2004 at her home. Judy was born November 9, 1948 in Sodus, daughter of the late Clifford and Esther Blackwell Grant. For the past ten years, she was an instructor at Wayne ARC in Newark. Previously she was a clerk at Wayne Pharmacy and Bern's Furniture Store, and a waitress at Dunk 'n Sip and Newark Diner. She was an active member of the Newark Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for 25 years. She was an avid collector of salt and pepper shakers. She is survived by her husband Jerry, two sons Steven (Randy) and Brian, two grandchildren - Erica and Darrel, all residing in Newark, a brother, Terry Grant of Newark, two sisters Helen (Robert) Nichols of Green, SC and Lynne (Raymond) Morey of Lyons, a niece and nephew. Her sister Donna Simpson predeceased Judy in 1994. Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. today, Aug. 13, at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Services will be Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Teeple, Arnold - Arnold B. Teeple, 83, formerly of North Rose, died August 4, 2004. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal and was retired from the Merchant Marine. He loved Harley-Davidsons and was a longtime friend and associate of the Iron Horsemen Motorcycle Club. He was a member of the Newark VFW. He is survived by his daughter, Jane (Ron) Skeels of Owego; his former wife, Mary, of Maryland; grandchildren, Andrea, Johnson and Adam and Jana Skeels; brothers, Harold (Elsie), Ralph and Eugene (Bonnie) Teeple; nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Byron Teeple. Interment in Huron Evergreen Cemetery.

Aldana, Luisa - Luisa Aldana, 69, of Newark, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the home of her daughter on Washington Street. Luisa was born August 19, 1934, in Honduras, to Eulogio and Rita Tories Larios. She came to the U.S. in 1993 and had worked at various places, including Newark Florist. She is survived by her children: Maria DeJohn of Newark; Rumaldo Aldana of La Ceiba, Honduras; Hector Aldana of Newark; Anival Aldana of Newark; Adilia Aldana of Newark; Javier Aldana of San Pedro Sula, Honduras; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her siblings, Antonio Larios of Newark, sister Larios Canales of Honduras, Paula Feliciano of Honduras and Eulgio Larios of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Cipriano Aldana Merlo, who died in June 2002, and a brother, Ronaldo Aldana, who died in January 2004. Interment will be in Ceiba, Honduras.

Loveless, Elizabeth - Elizabeth-Rankert Loveless, 82, of Lyons, died August 7, 2004. Betty was born August 26,1921, in Lyons, the daughter of Earl and Clara Ellsworth Rankert. She was employed for years at the Wayne County veterans office in Lyons as a senior stenographer. She is survived by her son, Robert (Charlyn) C. Loveless of Georgia; daughter, Susan (Burt) Ohmann of Clinton; four granddaughters, Lisa and Erin of New York City and Stephanie and Lauren of Georgia; a brother, Robert (Elizabeth) Rankert of Lyons; a sister, Lorraine (Duane) Oakleaf of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Interment, Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons.

Robinson, Fred - Fred I. Robinson, 71, of Newark, died August 9, 2004. Fred was born June 16, 1933, in Macedon, to Harold and Gladys Rumsey Robinson. He served in the Marine Corps, was retired from Garlock Co. and was a property owner in Newark, with rental property. Fred and his wife Kathy raised money during two Newarkfests for the Chuck Craig Memorial Award given by the Newark Chamber of Commerce. They added substantially to monies donated by friends and co-workers of Chuck Craig. Fred is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathy Ransom Robinson; three daughters, Hope (David) Peters of Newark, Cathy (Craig) Follette of Oaks Corners, Dawn (William) Martin of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Melena), Sonya (Chris), Matthew (Shanna), Christopher (Andrea), Kenneth, Andrew, Anne, and David; one great-grandchild, Amber. He is survived by McDonald's Coffee Buddies at the Newark McDonald's. He was predeceased in 1954 by his brother, Edward.

Greco, James - James J. Greco, 88, formerly of Newark, died Monday, August 9, 2004 at his son's home in East Rochester. Jim was born March 21, 1916 in Lyons, son of Dominic and Eleanor Vitaro Greco. He operated the Famous Newark Grill for over 25 years in Newark. He served in the Army and was awarded the American Defense Service award, Good Conduct Medal and served in France, Tunisia and Central Europe. He was a member of St. Michael Church and the VFW Arcadia Post 2883. He is survived by his son, Dennis J. (Susan Gianforti) of East Rochester, his brother, Edward (Rose) of Newark; two sisters, Natalie (Joe) Scarcelli and Rita Williams, both of Lyons; two grandchildren, Brian and Melissa; two sisters-in-law, Pinella Ochs and Anna (Rudy) Darcangelis; a brother in-law, Nicholas (Cecelia) Forgione; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lucille on August 2, 1999. Burial will be in South Lyons Cemetery with full military rites accorded.

Greene, Albert, Sr. - Albert J. (Al) Greene, Sr., 66, formerly of Rochester and Newark, of Tioga, PA, died August 7, 2004 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, PA. Albert was born January 25, 1938. He worked as a groundskeeper for Eastwood Management in Rochester for 35 years. Al was an avid NASCAR fan, U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Rochester VFW. Albert is survived by Carla Greene of Waterloo; mother Josephine Greene; son, Al Jr. (Sharon) Greene; daughters, Barbara (Jose) Ramirez of Newark, Sharon (Danny) Chavez of Geneva; four grandchildren, and dear friends, Vincent and Mary Canne. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Greene, and brother, Joe Greene.

Becker, Pauline - Pauline L. Ryan Becker, 73, died July 20, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Becker; her parents, William and Dorothy Ryan; and sister, Billie Patricia Ryan. Arthurton, Mildred - Mildred Alice Arthurton, 82, of Palmyra, died August 8, 2004. She as born February 15, 1922 in Palmyra to the late Harlow and Alice Veeder. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth G. Arthurton, Sr., and son Leslie E. Arthurton. She is survived by sons K. George, Jr., Wayne (Valerie), and A. James Arthurton; daughters Mary Arthurton and Marsha MacWilliams; grandchildren Kristine (Donald) Gugula, Wayne and Ryan Arthurton; great-grandchildren Donny and Abby Gugula; relatives and dear friends. Mildred raised six children of her own and worked with young children while employed by the, NYS Department of Mental Hygiene. Burial in Palmyra Cemetery.

Schrader, Ruth - Ruth (Schreiner) Schrader, 99, of Palmyra, died August 6, 2004. She was predeceased by her husbands, Amandus and George; great-grandson, Ted Schreiner. She is survived by son Richard (Claudine) Schreiner; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anne's Church, Palmyra. Interment is in St. Anne's Cemetery.

Culver, Richard - Richard L. Culver, 71, of Palmyra, died August 10, 2004. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Susan (Dean) Perrotte; sons Michael (Tina) and Stuart (Laure) Culver; brother Robert (Jane) Culver; sister Dorothy (Donald) Brainerd; three grandchildren; one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, one grandniece, several grandnephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Lester. Arrangements by Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 West Main Street, Palmyra, where a funeral service will be held today (Aug. 13) at 1 p.m. Interment to follow in Palmyra Cemetery. Colacino, Ronald - Ronald Colacino, 58, of Lincoln Road, died Thursday, July 29, 2004. Mr. Colacino was born May 2, 1946, in Newark, son of Joseph T. and Catherine Zappia Colacino. Ron was the owner of Colacino Electric Supply and Home Lighting Center and many residential and commercial rental properties throughout Newark. He was a graduate of Newark High School and New York School of Electronics in New York City. Before returning to Newark, he served in the Army, was an electrician at NBC Studios in New York City and also for NASA, where he videotaped several space launches. Ron was an advocate of Newark. He was appointed to the Newark Village Board on Nov. 6, 1986, and was elected to a full term the following spring. A member of the Newark Chamber of Commerce, he was instrumental in many ventures to promote the village. The Newark Rotary Club was another important aspect of Ron's life. He was sponsored for membership by his father in 1973, served as president from 1982-83, and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship. He spearheaded many Rotary projects and was probably the leading recruiter of new members. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge, Newark Council Knights of Columbus, and the Newark Fire Department. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at St. Michael's Church with the Rev. Peter Clifford officiating. Burial followed in Newark Cemetery. Arrangements by the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 E. Miller St., Newark. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Suzanne; three children, Todd (Jill) Nittolo, Sara (Dan) Visingard and Kristy Colacino; a grandson, Nicolas Nittolo, all of Newark; two brothers, Richard (Linda), of Newark and Donald (Laura) of Lafayette, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

Cornwell, Ruth E. - Ruth Elizabeth Cornwell of Woodhill in Newark died Thursday, July 29, 2004 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. She was born the daughter of the late Justus and Lousia Hardman on September 17, 1923 in Arthur, Canada. She was a homemaker, loving wife and mother. She was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Cornwell will be missed by her husband of 47 years, Robert J. Cornwell; son Donald (Linda) Cornwell of MD; grandchildren Teddy and Clara; brother Cliff Hardman of Canada; sisters Agnes Bowby of Canada and Gladys Grier of South Africa; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Albert Hardman and sister Eva Hardman. Interment in the Fairville Cemetery.

Teachout, Shelia Severson - Mrs. Shelia Severson Teachout, 65, of Washington St., Newark, formerly of East Genesee Street in Clyde, died unexpectedly Friday, July 30, 2004, at her home. Shelia was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Newark, the daughter of James and Thelma 'Pat' Lord Severson. Mrs. Teachout moved to Clyde in 1970 and for many years was an avid booster of all Clyde-Savannah High School sports teams. She was known to attend all of their home games and most of their away games. Burial in St. John's Cemetery in Clyde. She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Teachout Pentycofe of Newark and Kelly Lynn Hayes of Clyde; two sons, Randy Cleveland of Chatham, VA; and Michael (Tracy) Teachout deChauny of Gretna, VA; one brother, Douglas (Cecile) Severson of Phelps; two sisters, Sharon (William) Bauder of Orlando, FL; and Karen (James) Terry of SC; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Richard and James Severson; and her companion of more than 33 years, Harlow 'Butch' Hayes, who died Jan. 3, 2004.

Taylor, Marjorie - Marjorie Guthrie Taylor, 97, of Zephyrhills, Florida, formerly of Wolcott, died July 21, 2004 in Zephyrhills.Marjorie was born May 11, 1907, in Wolcott, to Nelson and Edith Snyder Field. She resided in the Newark-Wolcott area most of her life, moving to Zephyrhills, Florida in the 1970s. She was a graduate of Oswego Normal School, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She taught school in both the Newark and Red Creek elementary schools. She was a member of the former North Wolcott United Methodist Church where she served as organist for many years and had taught in the Sunday school program. She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association. She is survived by her husband, J. Richard Taylor of Zephyrhills; one daughter, Marilyn (John) Lawrence of Newark; one son, Gary (Mary) Guthrie of Exton, PA; two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews. She was predeceased by three husbands, George Guthrie, Earl Dubois, and William Esch; and two brothers. Interment in North Wolcott Cemetery.

Matthes, Herland - Herland Matthes, 92, formerly of Newark, died July 22, 2004 at Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina. Herland was born in Lyons, son of the late Frederick W. and Ethel Elliott Matthes. He served in the Army during World War II with the anti-aircraft battalion. Before his retirement, he was the owner and proprietor of Graham Florist and Greenhouses in Newark for many years. He moved to Durham, NC in 1999. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge 83 and several other Masonic organizations. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Durham. He is survived by his wife, Helen W. Matthes; son, William (Laurel) Matthes of Durham, and a sister, Alice Falke of Lyons; three grandchildren, Andrea (Grant) Halverson of Durham, Ryan (Corinne) Matthes of Cary, NC and Trevor Matthes of Durham; two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Dahms, Barbara - Barbara Dahms, 59, of Bauer Van Wickle Road, Lyons, died July 24, 2004. Barbara was born April 25, 1945, in the Bronx, to Walter and Beatrice Kelly Kolb. She was an author and helped in the operation of a Video Store on the canal, with her husband, Tom. Barb was a member of St. Michael's Church, where she was involved in Bible study and was head of the prayer group. She taught a CCD (religious education) class and served on the Parish Council and was a Eucharistic minister. She was active in the PTA in Lyons Central School and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Barbara is survived by Tom, her husband of 39 years; five daughters, Katherine (David) Schneider of Lyons, Caroline (Mike) Ferron of Houston, Texas; Kelly (Chris) Lorenzen of York, PA, Barbara Anne (Jon) Hall of Lyons, and Sarah Anne (Ron) Chastain of Irondequoit; her mother, Beatrice Kolb of Palmyra; five brothers, Joseph (Jean) Kolb of North Carolina, Richard (Joyce) Kolb of Poughkeepsie, Walter (Cris) Kolb of Penfield, Robert (Kim) Kolb of Fairport and Tom (Cathy) Kolb of Irondequoit; five sisters, Lois (Bob) Wiemann of Fairville, Joan (Joe) Wiemann of Long Island, Priscilla (John) Pierce of Palmyra, Fran (Bob) Marchese of Maryland, and Beatrice (Ed) Lanzetti of Connecticut; 13 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mamuscia, Samuel - Samuel Mamuscia, 86, died July 21, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Samuel was born in Auburn, the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Vella Mamuscia, and was an area resident until moving to Newark four years ago. Samuel was a Army veteran having served in World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for more than 40 years at the former Colombian Rope Co. Sam had a great love and passion for music. He was an accomplished drummer who performed with numerous local bands and orchestras. He is survived by his two step daughters, Linda (Roger) Capwell of Newark and Cynthia (Bruce) Watson of Grand Island, a sister, Rose (Alex) Greco of Michigan; a brother, Alfonso Mamuscia of Auburn; four step-granddaughters, Amy, Stephanie, Kimberly and Julianne; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Josephine Romano in 1966 and his second wife, Dorothy Shawcross Beader in 2002. Arrangements by the Pettigass Funeral Home, 196-Genesee St. in Auburn. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Alphonsus Church, with interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Ceravolo, Rocco - Rocco Ceravolo, 73, died July 23, 2004 at Strong Memorial Hospital. He was retired from Tops Food Markets after more than 20 years as meat manager. He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Ceravolo; daughters, Denise Ceravolo of Penfield and Diana (Robert) Poetker of Penfield, and two granddaughters; sister, Mary (Phillip) Paliotti of Lyons; brother, Joseph (Mary) Ceravolo of East Rochester; aunt, Katherine Murtari of Lyons; sister-in-law, Patricia (Frederick) Allen of Marietta, GA; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by four brothers, Santo, Frank, James, and Anthony. Funeral arrangements by the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street in Phelps. Services were followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Catholic Church in Phelps. Burial in St. Francis Cemetery with military Honors.

Yates, Ralph - Ralph A. Yates, 68, of North Rose, died at his home on July 20, 2004. Ralph was born Sept. 5, 1935 in Lyons, to Alfred G. and Florence M. Smith Yates. As a lifetime area resident, he was employed at Finger Lakes Packing and recently at Spinco, along with working his farm. He is survived by his son, Jeff Yates of Florida; daughter, Kim Pates of Liverpool; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Doris Lauster. A graveside service was held in the Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Humbert officiating. Arrangements are by the Farnsworth-Keysor Funeral Home in North Rose.

Norton, Richard - Richard 'Dickie Moe' J. Norton, 40, of Lyons, died July 21, 2004 at Newark Hospital after an injury. Richard was born January 25, 1964, son of Jane Johnson and Richard M. Norton Jr. He attended Lyons High School, graduating in 1982. He was active in all sports programs and the Apple Knockers Drum and Bugle Corps. For years he was employed at Zappia Vending in Newark, then he became a State Peace Officer. After his graduation from the New York State Department of Corrections Services Training Academy in Penn Yan in 1990, he worked as a correctional officer at Sing-Sing, Ulster, Fishkill, Bradford Hills, Butler Shock and the newly established Five Points in Romulus. Richard enjoyed art, woodworking and especially the company of his labrador retrievers which he bred under the name 'Nortland' labs. He also looked forward to golfing and hunting expeditons with his many friends. He is survived by his mother, Jane; stepfather, William Mott of Lyons; father, Richard M. (Staci) Norton of Auburn, brothers, Ronald (Angelina) Norton of Canandaigua, Stuart Mott of Geneva, Christian Mott of Lyons and Steve Augustine of Clifton Springs; one sister, JoAnna Mott of Lyons; three grandmothers, Bernice Johnson of Lyons, Winifred Mott of Clifton Springs and Polly Norton of Lyons; several uncles, aunts and cousins; one niece, Jessica; and his 'adopted' brother, Jeffrey Swann of Lyons.

Gruschow, James - James A. Gruschow, 78, of Sohn Alloway Road, died July 23, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Jim was born April 23, 1926 in Lyons, to the late Carl and Helen Stell Gruschow. He owned and operated Phelps Supply Company, a fertilizer plant. He was a past Exalted Ruler of the Lyons Elks Lodge 869, and member of First Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Anna Wallace Gruschow; daughter, Lorrie (Joe) Holly of Binghamton; son, Charles of West DesMoines, Iowa; sister, Edna May (Mike) Gansz of Lyons; four grandchildren, Charles Gruschow, Kristina (Bruce) Vandersteldt, Michael (Melissa) Holly and Griffin Holly; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two nephews, Bruce Facer and Thomas Wallace. Interment, South Lyons Cemetery.

Young, Robert - Robert E. Young, 88, of Phelps, died July 26, 2004 at the DeMay Living Center. Robert was born April 11, 1916 in Canandaigua, to Elkanah and Ethel Travis Young. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, member of the Webster American Legion Post #942 and a life member of Keeseville VFW Post 1505, and he was a War Dad. He was a member of the World Wide Church of God. Mr. Young retired from driving bus for the Rochester Transit System after 32 years. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard Young; children, Robert (Karen) Young of Germany, William (Connie) Young of Oklahoma, Carol Smith of Colorado, Conrad (Sue) Skorc of Palmyra, Herta Freling of Palmyra, Betty Hughes of Rochester; nine brothers and sisters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother and sister. The Memorial Service is today, July 30, at 1 p.m. in the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main Street, Phelps. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Best, Ralph C. - Ralph Cornelius Best, 88 of Newark, died peacefully with family by his side on July 27, 2004. Ralph was born March 9, 1916 in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. to Cornelius and Catherine Fabin Best. He had worked for Herman Brothers and Newark Developmental Center, from which he retired in 1979. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark. He was a member of the CSEA and a life member of the VFW Post #2883. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Raup Best; daughter and son-in-law Tina and Donald Orlopp of Clifton Springs; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Lisa Best of Palmyra; grandchildren Christopher (Chas) Orlopp of Clyde, Michael Orlopp of Clifton Springs, Paul Orlopp of Newark, Kevin Best of Missouri and Amy Best of Newark; great grandson Jacob Best of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Delores Buchhalter and Marie Snyder; half brothers Roy Walters, Wesley and Harry Rowe. Calling hours are Sunday (August 1) from 5 to 8 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 West Miller Street, Newark. The VFW Post 2883 will hold a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will be Monday (August 2) at 11 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Louis Jasper officiating. Interment to follow in East Newark Cemetery with full military honors.

Augustine, Donald L. - Donald L. Augustine, 73, of Palmyra, died July 28, 2004 at his home in Palmyra. Mr. Augustine was born on September 9, 1930 in Ontario, NY to Clarence and Pearl Youngman Augustine. Donald and the former Dorothy Dennie were married on April 17, 1952 in the Zion Episcopal Church in Palmyra. He was a retiree of Garlock and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6778. Calling hours are 1-2 p.m. Monday, August 2 at the Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc., 123 West Main St., Palmyra, followed by a funeral service. Interment with military honors will be in Palmyra Cemetery. Ehrhardt, Gary - Gary Rhea Ehrhardt, 65, of Newark, died July 16, 2004 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Gary was born September 16, 1938 in Newark, son of the late Raymond P. and Nina Lanse Ehrhardt. He was a life long member of Park Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge, 40-year member of the Arcadia Hose Co./Newark Volunteer Fire Dept., charter member of the Jake's Little Angels - fire dept. water ball tournament team, member of Company 13 which competed for distance trophies in parades. He served for many years as treasurer for the Arcadia Hose Co. He enjoyed playing golf, and playing the 'Taps' at the Memorial Day services for many years. Gary graduated from Newark High School in 1956. He had worked for Jackson & Perkins Rose Gardens, Newark County Club, A&P Foods, Roy Mason Distributors, and Eber Brothers Wine & Liquor. Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 21 years (married July 16, 1983) Dorothy Willemsen Ehrhardt; son Michael Raymond Ehrhardt of Macedon; sisters Linda (Roger) Hoffman of Marion, Gloria (Charlie) Matias of Willard; brothers-in-law Van (Catherine) VanHall, Isaac (Dolores) Willemsen, and Ralph (Betty) Vanderlinde; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; extended family from Canada and Florida. The Army flag flew in honor of his military service. The Newark Elks and Newark Vol. F.D. Arcadia Hose. Co. had Prayer Services for Gary. The funeral service at Park Presbyterian Church was officiated by the Rev. John Watkins. Burial with military honors followed at Marion Cemetery.

Kreiss, Nancy - Nancy R. Kreiss, 75, of Newark, and recently a resident of Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus, died July 16, 2004. Nancy was born on December 22, 1928, to Arthur and Cecil Crisler Maunder in the Town of Rose. She was the Director of the Operating Room at E.J. Barber Hospital in Lyons and retired as the Director of the O.R. at the Clifton Springs Satellite Clinic in Lyons, she also worked as a Wayne County Public Health Nurse with the Migrant Program. She was predeceased in 1994 by her husband Glenn, and by three sisters, Doris Campbell, Betty Jane Deeley, and Joyce Maunder. Surviving are her four children: Marilyn (Paul) Massaro of Michigan, Carol (John) Boylan of New Jersey, Roger (Jan) Kreiss of Marion, Jon (Chris) Kreiss of Tonawanda; 10 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald (Norma) Kreiss of Rochester; nieces and nephews.

Colarocco, Rose - Rose Marie Colarocco, 79, of Newark, died July 17, 2004 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Rose was born September 3, 1924, in Newark, to James and Katherine Pagra Tavano. She had worked for Sarah Coventry Jewelry. She was a Foster Grandparent, member of St. Michael's Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her son Robert W. (Kathy) of Newark, and daughter Jeanne Puckett of North Carolina; seven grandchildren - Joey (Becky), John Paul, Michael, Jessica (Guy) Colarocco-Rykbost, Matt, Angie, and Josha Puckett; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Samuel and Katie Colarocco; three sisters, Connie Taylor of Florida, Marion Welling of Oregon, and Lucy DeCann of Newark; a brother, Anthony Tavano of Newark; sisters-in-law, Betty Bilotta and Anna Tarantelli; and nieces and nephews. Beal, David 'Digger' - David Scott 'Digger' Beal, 58, of Morrisville, Tennessee and formerly of Newark, died unexpectedly on July 15, 2004. Digger was born January 1, 1946 in Buffalo, to the late Dorothy and Pete Beal, who later resided in Newark. He graduated from Newark High School in 1964 and from the Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. He owned and operated the Beal Monument and Cremation Service business in Newark, worked as a salesman for the R. J. Reynolds Company, and recently worked with his wife and stepson in their crystal engraving business in Tennessee. He was an avid outdoorsman, and was proud of his work as a shooting instructor with youth. He is survived by his wife, Candice Psichopaidas Beal, his step-son and family, James and Tiffany Psichopaidas, granddaughter Calista, step-daughter and family Karisa and Todd Jenkins, his honorary brothers, Dick Chamberlin and Mike Valvano, aunts, cousins and close friends in Newark and Lyons. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Roxanne Leigh. Interment in the Newark Cemetery.

Ronan, Betsy - Betsy J. Ronan, 83, of Manchester, died July 14, 2004 at the Ontario County Health Facility. Betsy was born in Lyons, daughter of John and Alice Plyter. She was a homemaker, former member of the Wayne Hills County Club in Lyons. She loved being around people and helping them, and loved working in her vegetable garden. She is survived by a son Steven Marshall (Linda) Ronan, Wilmington, NC and daughter Rona Jean (Thomas) Sembach of Manchester; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a longtime companion, M. Earl Castle, former greeter at Wal-Mart. She was predeceased by her husband, William L. Ronan; brothers, Peter and Charles Plyter, and son, Jack Ronan. Interment in Lyons Rural Cemetery.

Young, Lorena - Lorena E. 'Rene' Young, 42, of Phelps, died July 16, 2004 after a long illness, surrounded by her loved ones. Lorena was born April 12, 1962, in Clifton Springs, to James and Pauline Stacy Young. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens. Rene enjoyed birdwatching and loved all animals. Arnold, William - William E. Arnold, 89, of Marion, died July 15, 2004. He was a Sunday School teacher at Williamson Reformed Church, member of Marion and Newark Masonic Lodges and the Newark Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons, and Newark Masonic Bowling League. He retired from Mobil Chemical Co. Glena, Eleanor - Eleanor L. Glena, 85, of Lyons, died July 18, 2004.Eleanor was born October 19, 1918 in Newark, to Arthur and Sadie Eyer Witt. She was employed at Hickok's, and LaCantina Restaurant in Lyons, and later at St. John Fisher College. She also was a past member of the Lyons VFW Post 5092 Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Marsha; grandson, Michael Gary; sister, Laura Knittel; brothers, Harold and Howard 'Barney' Witt. Vanderlinde, Jeanette - Jeanette M. (Merk) Vanderlinde, 89, of Sodus Center, died July 15, 2004 at Blossom View Nursing Home. Davis, David - David Leonard Davis, 38, of Webster, formerly of Newark, died suddenly on July 18, 2004. David was born September 1, 1965 in Orange County, California, son of Charles and Betty Orbaker Davis. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and pencil sketching. Blankenberg, John - John E. Blankenberg, Jr., 56, of Palmyra, died July 12, 2004. He was born July 27, 1947 in Sodus, to John and Nellie Vandenheuvel Blankenberg. John served in the Army in Germany and worked for Garlock Company, for Dave Burnham Lawn Service, and he was a self-employed landscaper. He is survived by his companion, Emily Heers of Palmyra, son Joe Blankenberg of Palmyra, daughters Heather Lynn Heers of Palmyra, Tracey Blankenberg of Newark; four step-children and several grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia (Ed) Peters of Fairville, Barbara Jean (Jonathan) Moon of Newark, Diana (Rod) Smith of Newark; seven brothers, Lewis (Viola) of Marion, David (Carolyn) of Newark, Thomas A. (Jo Ann) of Sodus, James E. of Newark, Gerald (Donna) of Lyons, Steven of Newark, Michael John of Newark, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son John Michael, and by his brothers Larry in 1996, and Charles in 2001.

Weeks, Madeline - Madeline 'Madge' J. Weeks, 92, of Newark, died July 11 at DeMay Living Center. Madeline was born in Glen Cove, Long Island on May 17, 1912, to William and Anna Christianson Johnston. In her earlier years she worked for Guardian Life Insurance Co. Madge was a member of Park Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert H., and son Philip (Barbara) of Uxbridge, Massachusetts. The funeral was held in the Park Presbyterian Church chapel. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Zonneville, Alice - Alice M. Zonneville of Sodus, 84, died on July 9, 2004, in Rochester General Hospital. Funeral services were held at the Norton Funeral Home in Sodus; interment is in the Macedon Cemetery. She was predeceased by husbands Irvine VanLare and Isaac Zonneville, and by a daughter, Shirley VanLare. She is survived by five children: Barbara (Carmen) Sanzotta of Wolcott, Karen (Richard) Thompson of Cuba, NY, Mary Ellen (Les) Smith of Florida, Linda (David) House of Shortsville and Dorothy (Ivan) Faulks of Marion; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

Gardner, John - John E. Gardner of Manchester, 57, died unexpectedly on July 6, 2004, at his home. John was born May 13, 1947, in Rochester, to Thomas and Marion Jones Gardner. He graduated from Palmyra-Macedon High School in 1965. He entered the Air Force in 1966, serving in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He worked at Conrail Railroad and served as Manchester Highway Superintendent. While working at Conrail, John attended State University College at Brockport obtaining his teaching degree in 1975. John taught briefly in Newark schools before spending the last 19 years teaching in the Clyde-Savannah School District. He was Past Commander of the Turner-Schrader American Legion Post 34, member of Lions Club, 40 & 8, and Manchester-Shortsville VFW. John married Barbara Malark of Manchester and had two sons with her. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas Gardner; and his son, Stephen Malark Gardner. He is survived by his mother, Marion Doris Gardner; sons, Tod (Carrie) Gardener and Nicholas Gardner of Newark; two grandchildren; brother, Fred Gardner; three sisters, Sharon (Kim) Griffin, Donna Gardner, and Barbara Gardner, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be sadly missed by friends, co-workers, and Wendy Huntone of Newark, his companion of 17 years and mother of Nick. Services were held at the United Methodist Church of Manchester; arrangements entrusted to the Halsted-Patrick Funeral Home in Manchester.

Brown, Jane - Jane Bennett Brown, 83, of Clifton Springs, formerly of Geneva, died July 7, 2004, at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Jane was born December 11, 1920, in Rochester, to Mr. and. Mrs. Ainsworth M. Bennett of Manchester. She graduated from Manchester High School and earned degrees from Keuka College and from Hartford Seminary. She also studied at Cornell University and at the Colgate Rochester Divinity School. She married Edgar H. 'Brownie' Brown on Nov. 29, 1969. She spent most of her professional career in higher education and in parish ministry. She held teaching and administrative positions at Keuka College, where she eventually served as Dean of Students. Jane was interim pastor and assistant pastor at the North Presbyterian Church in Geneva and was pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Dundee, where she finished her career in 1983. Jane was the moderator of the Ontario-Yates Baptist Assn. She was active in the Presbytery of Geneva, serving as its moderator in 1984. She was a minister delegate to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (United States) in 1988. Jane was on the boards of Ontario Day Care Center, Geneva Women's Club, Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council, where she was president from 1978-81, and the Geneva Historical Society. She was a member of the Ontario County Hospice Task Force and was instrumental in the creation of the House of John. She also chaired the Geneva Human Rights Commission and had belonged to the PEO Sisterhood. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 14, at the Presbyterian Church in Geneva. The Rev. W. James Gerling and the Rev. Nancy Birdsong will officiate. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Shortsville. She is survived, by her stepson, Theodore E. (Barbara) Brown; a stepgrandson, one great-granddaughter, one great-grandson and many devoted friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Brown, and stepgrandson, Robin Brown.

Johnson, John - John A. Johnson, Jr., 75, of Sodus, died July 11, 2004. John is survived by his wife, Patricia, children, Sandra (Joseph) DeRaffele of Goldens Bridge, Donna Johnson (Tracy DelGrego) of Rochester, and David Johnson of Williamson; seven grandchildren; brother, Robert (MaryAnn) of Ft. Myers, FL; nieces and nephews.

Smith, Kenneth - Kenneth L. Smith, 91, of Sodus and Ontario, died July 13, 2004 in Clifton Springs Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife, Virginia C. Smith. He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Russ) Hixon of Yuba City, CA, Polly (Jim) Cantwell of Ontario; a son, David (Debbie) of Marion; two sisters, Jean McClaren of Bangor, ME and Betty Coleman of Angels Camp, CA; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Calling hours are today, July 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norton Funeral Home in Sodus. Interment will be in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Bird, Carol - Carol H. Bird, 85, died July 4, 2004 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. The daughter of Arthur and Mae Howell Bird, Carol was born November 12, 1918 in Sterling and moved to Newark in 1922. She was a teacher, pianist, organist, vocalist, choir director, trumpeter, trombonist, a world traveler and, at one time, a private secretary. She had attended the Rochester Business Institution in 1937, earned her Bachelor Degree in Music in 1945 at Eastern Baptist College in Pennsylvania, her Master's degree in music from the Manhattan School of Music in 1949. Carol continued graduate studies at Juilliard School of Music, Union Theological Seminary in NYC, and the Eastman School of Music. She performed at Carnegie Hall from 1940-45, was a trumpet soloist and in trumpet trio at Nyack College, and, in 1967, took a music study tour of Europe. She was Supervisor of Vocal Music for the Rochester Public Schools in 1955, Wheatland- Chili Central School 1955-57. She had been a director of the Monroe County Music Teachers Assoc. She taught music at the Lyons Elementary School and had been director of the Wayne County Elementary Music Festival. Miss Bird was choir director and organist at the First Baptist Church in Newark for over 40 years and was the organist with the Christian Science Church. She was a member of American Federation of Teachers, Music Educators National Assoc., a member of the Smithsonian Assn., a Life Fellow of IBA, and was listed in the International Who's Who of Music, Men and Women of Distinction, Dictionary of International Biography, and the World Who's Who of Women. She is survived by several cousins and devoted friends. Arrangements by the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Services are today (July 9) at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. Interment will be in Fairmont Cemetery in Red Creek.

Boyea, Donald - Donald W. Boyea, 67, of Sodus, died July 4, 2004 at Rochester General Hospital. Don was born August 19, 1936 in Binghamton, son of Antoine and Julia Metaleska Boyea. He retired from Xerox Co., in Webster, where he was a machinist for 30 years. He served in the National Guard Motor Pool for 11 years. He is survived by his daughter, Debbie (Steve) Gravino of Newark; former wife and best friend, Nancy Boyea Bombard of Sodus; brother, Richard (Charlene) of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws. Friends may call today, July 9, from 11 to 1 at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home, 103 Maple Ct., Newark. A graveside service will be today at 1:30 at Newark Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Newark American Legion.

Ameele, Irene - Irene Bruno Ameele, 94, of Williamson, died July 1, 2004. She was born July 30,1909, in East Williamson. A graduate of Sodus High School (1923), and Plattsburgh State Teacher's College (1931). She taught in Alden, for more than six years, served as Postmaster of East Williamson for more than six years, and was a Welcome Wagon Hostess for 14 years. She married Edwin 'Spike' Ameele on December 30, 1937. Irene was a devoted wife, loving and caring mother, and she loved gardening. She is survived by her husband Spike; sons, Reginald (Betsy) of Baldwinsville, Robert (Middy) of California, and Randall (Chris) of Glastonbury, CT; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; Lillian Charles of Rochester; many nieces and nephews.

Harrington, Henry - Henry W. Harrington, 87, of Sodus Point, died July 3, 2004. He was predeceased by his son, Norman. Henry is survived by his sister, Alice (Tony) Melnec of Roches ter; nieces and nephews, Mary Alice (Jack) Kelley of Sodus Point, Jean Scott of Jamesville, Margary (Ivan) Bulriss of Sodus Point, Fred (Judy) Harrington III of Springwater, and several more.

Zeger, Ruth - Ruth M. Zeger of Sodus died July 2, 2004. She was predeceased in 1998 by her husband, Ralph. She is survived by her three children, Barbara (Daniel) DeRue and, Gary (Mary) Zeger, all of Sodus, and Lorna Zeger of Florida, and five grandchildren. Services were held at the First Reformed Church of Sodus, followed by interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Sammons, Elizabeth - Elizabeth Mary (Dowling) Sammons died July 5, 2004. She was born in Neawrk to Frances (Nolan) and Bruce Dowling. A graduate of Nazareth Academy and Nazareth College, she also did graduate work at Fordham University, and she was a Social Worker for Monroe County. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth A. Sammons. Esq. (William L. Chappell) of Willlamson; sister, Rita G. Dowling of Rochester. She was predeceased in 1986 by her husband, Maurice F. Sammons, and by a brother, Francis Dowling. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Bartleson, Donald - Donald C. Bartleson, 72, of Sodus, died July 4, 2004. He leaves behind his wife, Yvonne; sons, Brian (Cathy) Bartleson, their children, Liz, Claire Hanna, Steve (Sue) Bartleson; daughter, Lori (Robert) Johnson, their children, Shawn and Kim; sister, Lois (George) Wilkenson; nieces & nephews. Don was an active member in his community for years. He received awards for Agri-Business of 2003, Outstanding Conservation Farmer of Cornell Cooperative Extension Member, served on Sodus School Board, Chairman Pro-Fac Cherry Committee, has been a National Weather Station Observer for 40 years, and an awarded blood donor. There will be a graveside memorial today (July 9), at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Rural Cemetery in Sodus Center on Brick Church Road.

Bender, James - James Garfield Bender, Jr., 77, of Newark died July 1, 2004 at Newark Manor. Jim was born August 19, 1926 in Rochester, to Mr. and Mrs. James Bender, Sr. He worked for the Wayne County Highway Dept. for 18 years and was a truck driver for Comstock Foods. He served in the Navy from 1944-46 and was a life member of August Mauer Post 286 American Legion and VFW Post 2883. Friends may call Sunday, July 4, 1 to 4 p.m. at Schulz-Funeral Home, 103 Maple Court, Newark. Visitation Sunday at 2 by the American Legion and VFW of Newark. A graveside service will be held Tuesday (July 6) at 9:30 a.m. at Newark Cemetery, with full military honors accorded with the Rev. Dan Benedict officiating. He is survived by three sons, James Bender-Lewis of Perinton and Robert and Shamus Bender of Newark; step-son, Kenneth Young of Newark; daughter, Jackie Bender-Lewis and step-daughter, Linda Chamberlin of SC; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in July 2001 by his wife, Viola.
