Reed, Arline - Arline B. Reed, 85, of County Road 27, Clifton Springs died June 29, 2008 at the Geneva Living Center South. Arline was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Fairport, the daughter of the late Andrew and Barbara Kohl. She was employed for many years at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester. Arline was a member of the Port Gibson Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her children, Kathy (Skip) Craig of Sodus, John Reed II of Clifton Springs, James (Christine) Reed of Clifton Springs; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Ed (Joan) Kohl of Macedon; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Kohl of West Virginia and Jane Kohl of Fairport; nieces and nephews. Arline was predeceased in 2005 by her husband, John 'Jack' Reed; sisters, Cathy and Dorothy; brothers, Bob, Lawrence, Andy and Ray. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Patrick Funeral Home, Clifton Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at St. Felix Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may contribute to the Port Gibson Fire Department, Clifton Springs Hospital or St. Felix Church.

Frind, Bud - Ralph W. 'Bud' Frind, 89, of Alloway Road, died Sunday, June 29, 2008. Bud was born March 11, 1919, in Alloway, to Cleveland W. and Olga Carver Frind. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force during World War II. He was a plant manager in Lyons and retired in 1981 from Mobil Chemical, where he was a quality control manager. He was a 55-year member of Humanity Lodge #406 and will be remembered as someone to help others in bettering themselves. He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, James W. (Mary Jane) Frind of Lyons; daughter, Linda Frind of Palmyra; grandson, Jay W. (Becca) Frind of Fairville; sister, Hattie Klage of Canandaigua; and several nieces. Noble, Marilyn - Marilyn Joyce Noble, 69, of Newark, formerly of Macedon, died July 1, 2008 at the Pines of Peace in Ontario. Marilyn was born January 16, 1939 in Fairport, daughter of the late James and Ruth Thompson Baumgartner. She was a graduate of the Fairport High School. She worked for the ARC in Newark as a Job Coach. She was a member of the South Perinton United Methodist Church, the AVSO in Newark, and the Palmyra Moose Lodge. Campbell, Barbara - Barbara Mary Cherrier Campbell, 78, died June 29, 2008 at Loretto Nursing Home in Syracuse. Born in North Bangor on May 19, 1930, she was the daughter of Francis Cherrier and Evelyn Wood. She is survived by her son, John Campbell of Waddington, her sister, Lillian Cherrier of Marion, longtime companion, Fran Baker of Syracuse; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis (Florence) Cherrier and Evelyn (Ernest) Wood. Memorial services will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in Clyde on Monday, July 7 at 10.

Carnell, Ken - Kenneth 'Flash' Eugene Carnell, 70, died peacefully on June 27, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Ken was born May 20, 1938 in Amaranth, PA, son of the late Neeper and Elizabeth Hendershot Carnell. He worked for Duffy Mott in the maintenance department before moving to Florida. There he worked as a greens keeper in Delray Beach, Florida. He is survived by his sons Mark and Donald Carnell; daughters Donna (David) Mills and Jean Conrow; six grandchildren and three great granddaughters; brother Clayton (Karen) Carnell; sisters Bernice Casselman and Audrey Meeks; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law James Conrow 2004; brother Marvin Carnell in 2008; sister Esther Coonrod in 2007; brothers-in-law Larry Casselman and Ted Meeks. Weaver, Thomas - Thomas Weaver, 82, died June 29, 2008. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy. He is survived by his children, Linda (Patrick) Cooney, Roger (Karen) Weaver, Nancy (David) Lord, Mary (Louie) Salerno; 9 grandchildren; great-grandchildren. Jacobs, Ken - SPC Kenneth R. Jacobs, 21, formerly of Walworth, died unexpectedly on June 23, 2008 in Hawaii. Ken was a Specialist in the Army, assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He moved to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii in 2006 and returned in October 2007 from a deployment to Iraq. He is survived by his wife, Chriscedia Jacobs; step-daughter Mariah; his mother Dawn (Larry) LeBerth; father Harold R. (Debbie) Jacobs; mother-in-law Beth Smith (Kurt); grandparents, Bob (Jane) Wage, Teddy (Patty) Jacobs; siblings, Kevin Jacobs, Brian Warner, LeAnne Steven, Kaitlynn LeBerth, Timothy, Teddy, Stephanie Jacobs; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Pulver, Irene - Irene T. Pulver, 85, of Newark, died June 27, 2008, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Calling hours are today, June 30 from noon to 2, at Schulz-Pusateri Funeral Home. Irene was born Aug. 2, 1922 in Newark, daughter of Isaac and Emma Woodhams Tack. She was a secretary for the Newark Central School District, and she was a lifetime member of Fairville Presbyterian Church. Irene is survived by two sons, Russell T. (Royetta) of Irondequoit, and David A. (sherry) of Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Susanne) Pulver of Rochester, and Ellen (Gene Fiordeliso) Pulver of Brighton; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in July 2003 by her husband, Russell; brother, Arthur Tack; sisters Gladys, Anna, Elizabeth, Ruth and Lucille. Washburn, Howard - Howard Lorene Washburn Sr., 68, of Newark and Lyons, died peacefully on June 25, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Services will be private. Howard was born January 4, 1940 in Philipsburg, PA, the son of Earl Washburn and Marcella Snedden. He attended Bald Eagle High School in Wingate, PA. Howard was a truck driver working in North Carolina. He was a member of the Auxiliary Police Dept. there. He was a past member of Newark AVSO, Newark American Legion, and the Marbletown Volunteer Fire Dept. At the Nursing Home, he was President of the Resident Council. He was also the Bingo Caller and delivered the mail and newspaper throughout the complex. Norman Waterman Funeral Home proudly flies the Air Force Flag in honor of his military service in 1957 and 1958. Howard will be remembered by his sons: Howard Jr. (wife Lynn) - Howard is in Afghanistan; son John (wife Michele); John will be leaving July 3 for Afghanistan; grandchildren Kayla, Kristin, Adam, Faith Washburn, Mathis and Marcella Houdeshell; mother Marcella Houdeshell of PA; brothers Chester (Mildred) and Dan (Bonnie) Houdeshell both of PA; nieces and nephews. Gaylord, Ed - Edward L. Gaylord, Sr., 84, of Newark, died June 18, 2008. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 27 at 10 a.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery in Oaks Corners. Ed was a veteran of World War II and served his country honorably in the Army. He was a loving husband to Betty Gaylord for 58 years, father to Edward Gaylord Jr. and the beloved grandfather of Frederick, Edward III and Charles Gaylord. Venoski, Marianna - Marianna G. Venoski, 73, of Newark died June 21, 2008 at Rochester General Hospital. Friends may call today, June 24 from 4 to 7 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Father Mark Brewer will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, at St. Michael's Church, Newark. Marianna was born September 10, 1934, in Yugoslavia the daughter of Milan and Maria Vanko Gligorijevic. For many years, she lived in Belgium, where she worked as hostess and translator for the City of Brussels. Marianna and John came to the United States in 1963. She received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 1983 from Nazareth College. She taught foreign languages at St. Michael School for 18 years, retiring in 2001. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church. She was a member of the NYS Foreign Language Assn. and the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary. In 1985, she was the senior division shot put champion of the Empire State Games. She is survived by her children: John (Lois) Venoski, III, of Newark, Anne-Marie (Scot) Hanson of Orlando, and Dr. Suzanne (Warren) Prestwich of Baltimore; seven grandchildren Brynna, Jack and Andrew Venoski, Alexander and Katherine Hanson, William and Thomas Prestwich; her mother Maria Gligorijevic and a brother Mirko (Gisele) Gregory of Brussels, Belgium. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. John Venoski on June 21, 1997, and by her father, Milan Gligorijevic, in 1977.

Burton, Anne - Anne J. Burton, 86, residing at Wayne County Nursing Home since 2004, died June 22. 2008. Anne was born September 25, 1921 in Lyons, a daughter to Ruffalo and Amelia DeVito Greco. She attended Culver Academy in 1941 and received a license to practice cosmetology, operating out of her home until retirement in 2001. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles L. Burton; son, John C. of Lyons; daughter, Brenda Braun of Buffalo; grandson, Joshua DiSanto; granddaughter, Krystal DiSanto; brother, Joseph (Doris) Greco of Lyons; special niece Joyce (Herbert) Parker; and many nieces and nephews. Mattoon, Barbara - Barbara Cattieu Mattoon, 81, of Phelps died June 20, 2008 at Clifton Springs Hospital, after a short illness. Barbara was born May 12, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of Orange and Margaret Lyons Cattieu. She moved to Geneva at age three and graduated from Geneva High School, class of 1945. On Nov. 27, 1948, she married William Mattoon of Phelps. They opened Flint View Farms at which she was a bookkeeper and partner, which later became Mattoon Brothers Farms. She was predeceased by her husband in 1991. Barbara is survived by one son, Daniel (Jane) Mattoon of Falls Church, VA; two daughters, Beth (Dan) Webster and Benita (James) Allen, both of Phelps; one brother, Rodney Cattieu of Schenectady; niece, Sherrie (Tom) Hayes; nephew, Steven (Sue) Cattieu, all from Schenectady; grandchildren, Zack, Jon, Ben, Allen, Megan and William Webster, David, Sarah, Kathleen and Daniel Mattoon, Tammy (Rich) Carmel, Scott (Tina) Webster, Carrie (David) Fischer; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Theresa (Lyle) Baker and Barbara Mattoon; four cousins, Marion Bement, Dorothy Povero and Mary (Kenny) Conklin, Richard (Audrey) Lyons; dear friends, Catherine Townsend, Cindy (Joseph) Hairfield and Jeremy Hairfield. Losey, Glenn - Glenn K. Losey, 85, of Williamson died June 20, 2008 at his home. He was born in Thurston, NY, November 17, 1922. He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Myrtle Losey. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette (Stoddard) Losey; children, Eugene (Sally Ott) Losey of Elmhurst, IL, Rita (Ardeli) Dean of Spencerport, Steven (Suzanne) Losey of Penn Yen; grandchildren, Kelly (Peter) Weishaar, Jason Byrne, Mitchell Losey, Matthew Losey; one great-grandson, Jacob Weishaar; sister; Marian Cupples of Baton Rouge, LA; nieces, Nancy Ward and Deborah Brown. He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was retired from Rochester Gas & Electric. He was a member of the Williamson Rotary Club, Williamson American Legion Post #394 and The Williamson Orphix Fraternity. He was a musician and will be remembered for his love of music. Morrison, Dexter - Dexter Duane Morrison, 74 of Newark died suddenly on June 22, 2008. was born May 23, 1934 in Newark, son of the late Stanley and Marian Aldrich Morrison. He graduated in 1953 from Newark High School. He was retired from the Newark Developmental Center, where he worked as a Recreational Therapist. As a drummer he was involved with the Drum and Bugle Corps at NDC. He enjoyed supporting the High School Marching Band. He was a member of the Newark Vol. Fire Dept. Co. #5, Newark Elks Lodge and AVSO of VFW Post #2883. He is survived by his wife, Bette Stetzel Morrison; daughter Amy (Don) Brunner of Louisiana; son Bill (Terri) of Waterloo and Rick (Lynette) Morrison of Newark; grandchildren Christine, Ashley and Robyn Brunner, Erica, Danielle, Kristine, David, Dylan, Amanda, Chad, Spencer and Brittney Morrison; great grandchildren Michael Morrison and Shaye Brown; sister-in-law Bonnie Bergstresser of Stanley; brother-in-law John Stetzel of Vermont; nephews Mark (fiancee Karen) and Mitch Morrison; great nephews Jace & Coulter. Orbie was predeceased by his wife Betty Hall in 2003. He is survived by children, Jesse (Teresa) Hall of Lyons, Mary Ann Webber of Alton, Ruby Ann Hall and Annette Hall of Dover, Delaware; his brother Charlie Walker of Rochester; sisters Mamie Blackmon of Webster, Carolyn Adams and Inez Russell of Florida; sister-in-law Zora Hall of Rochester; a host of other relatives and friends. Wells, Marion - Marion E. Fox Wells, 98, of Clifton Springs, died June 16, 2008, at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. A memorial service to celebrate Marion's life will be held at the convenience of the family. Marion was born Oct. 26, 1909, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of the late Elroy P. and Elizabeth Wells. She had worked at the Clifton Springs Elementary School and then at McCurdy's in Rochester. Marion was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Jorgensen of Lake Placid; grandchildren, Susan (Robert) Yokabaskas and Thomas Charles (Kim) Jorgensen; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Bob and James Yokabaskas, Michael and Erik Jorgensen; nieces and nephews. Rice, Lyle - Lyle G. Rice, 79, of Oswego, Illinois, formerly of Williamson, died June 15, 2008. He was born July 17, 1928 in Rose, grew up in Wolcott, was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and Elim Bible Institute (Lima, NY). Lyle is survived by his wife, Norma J. (Boughton) Rice of Oswego, whom he married May 9, 1951; three children, Dale (Susan) Rice of Fairfax, VA, Lynda (Rev. Dr. Scott) Field of Naperville, IL and Laurie (Ronald) Gurney of Bradenton, FL; five grandchildren, Sara and Heather Rice; Emily, Nathan and Adam Field; his brother, Leston (Barbara) Rice of Warwick, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva (nee Fineout) Rice, brother, Lawrence Rice and sister, Laverna Freeman. Lyle Lyle was employed for many years as Food Service Director for the Williamson Central School system. He was active in several churches in Williamson and Chillicothe, Ohio throughout the years, was an avid fisherman and Civil War history buff, and enjoyed baking. Donovan, Paul - Paul Fredrick Donovan, 76, died June 16, 2008 at Clifton Springs Hospital. All Services will be private. Paul was born May 4, 1932 in Morrison, Illinois, son of the late Paul and Susanne Ernst Donovan. He was a truck driver for Paul T. Freund Corp. in Palmyra. He was a member of the Palmyra Moose Lodge, The Lyons Gun Club and the Palmyra VFW. The funeral home proudly flies the Air Force Flag in honor of his service to our country during the Korea War. Cavnuto, Joan - Joan Cavnuto of Newark died June 13, 2008. She loved her children deeply and was a devoted friend who saw only the good in all people. She was predeceased by her parents, Marian and William Robbins; husband Albert Cavnuto. She is survived by her children, Jenifer (Shane) Cheshire, Jamey Cavnuto; brothers, William (Paula) Robbins, Paul (Christine) Gill; several nieces and nephews. Pieters, Ida - Ida Pieters died peacefully on Saturday June 14, 2008 at her home just 18 days shy of her 96th birthday. Calling hours are Wednesday (June 18) from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. A funeral service will be June 19 at 10 a.m. at the Woodlane Community Church with the Rev. William Hoffman officiating. Crossword puzzles, playing cards, dominoes, playing the organ, baking and cooking were among the many things Mrs. Pieters enjoyed. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Peggy Pieters of Arizona, Leslie and Elizabeth Pieters of Webster; seven grandchildren Kimberly, Gerald Jr., Steven, Paige, Heather, Andrea and Thomas and nine great grandchildren Kelli, Michael, Sarah, Hannah, Nicole, Nathan, Clara, David and Peter; sisters-in- law including Edith DeVries and Jennie Pieters; many nieces and nephews. Lanse, Donald - Donald Lanse, 80, of Newark died June 13, 2008. Family and friends may call Sunday (June 15) from 4 to 8 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, 124 W. Miller St., Newark. A Service will be held Monday (June 16) at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in East Newark Cemetery, with full military honors. He was born November 8, 1927 in Sodus, son of the late Floyd and Anna Wessie Lanse. He worked for the George Farrell Service Station for 20 years before opening his own station on West Union at Scott St. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, and was a past member of the Elks Lodge in Newark. The funeral home proudly flies the Air Force flag in honor of his service to our country from 1945-48 and during the Korean War. Featherly, Murray - Murray M. Featherly Jr., of Sodus died June 11, 2008. Murray is survived by his wife of 53 years, Berdeane Romer Featherly; sons Murray (Dawn Michelle) Featherly of Sodus, Grant (Beth) Featherly of North Rose; granddaughter Sarah Ann Featherly of Sodus; brothers and sisters Phillip (Edna) Featherly of Sodus, Sumner (Audrey) Pearsall of Fairport, Mary Fowler of Newark, Betty Hayden of Hilton. Murray was predeceased by his parents, Murray and Ethel Glass Featherly, brother Richard C. Featherly, sister Mildred Millie M. Featherly, brothers Leo and Winford 'Winnie' Pearsall, and John Pearsall. A Mechanical Engineer, Murray retired from the Dynalec Corporation in 1997. He was a Navy veteran, having served from 1951-55 and was assigned to Airborne Early Warning Squadron Four in Jacksonville, Florida. Richard was employed as a farmer, mailman and in the metal shop at the Newark Developmental Center. Waldorf, Irene - Irene Waldorf, 90, of Newark died June 7, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. She was born December 7, 1917 in North Greece, daughter of Albert and Theo Rowley Lockner. She graduated from High School in N. Greece and then from Rochester Business Institute. In Newark she worked for C.H. Stuart Co. as an executive secretary. She joined the First United Methodist Church of Newark and was active on many church committees. She was a charter member of the Methodist Women Quilting Club. She was a self-taught organ and piano player and would use that talent in church. For many years she volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader in the Newark area. She enjoyed reading and sports, baseball and football, and was a Buffalo Bills fan. While working at C.H. Stuart she played on the women's softball team. There will be no calling hours. Family and friends may attend a Memorial Service on Friday, June 13, at 1 p.m. at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, 124 W. Miller St., Newark. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Celso, Bernie - Bernard Joseph Celso, 82, of Newark died June 2, 2008 at his daughter's home in Stanley. Calling hours are 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday (June 5) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by his son Father B. Thomas Celso at 11 a.m. Friday (June 6) at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in East Newark Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Michaels Church, 401 South Main Street, Newark. Bernard was born May 3, 1926 in Clyde, the son of Vito and Madeline (Marro) Celso, the 12th of 14 children. A Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, he flew as a ball turret gunner in a B-24 Liberator during World War II. On August 23, 1947, he married Katherine Ross. He and his brothers ran a dry cleaning business in Newark for several years. After Urban Renewal acquired their building, he worked 14 years at Xerox. He was a faithful communicant of St. Michael's Church. Bernie was an extraordinary minister of the Holy Eucharist. He and his wife Kathy played guitar for the Folk Group and sang together in the choir. He was proud to sing the Alleluia from Handel's Messiah for Easter celebrations. Bernie helped to start the Ministry of Praise at St. Michaels and also had a prison ministry. In the seventies, Bernie and Kathy held Reality Group and bible study meetings in their home. They were also active in Cursillo, Family Camp at Stella Maris, Seminars at Notre Dame and Prayer Cenacle. Bernie was a past Grand Knight and member of the Newark Council Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed being an actor with the Newark Players. He especially enjoyed long walks, coffee with friends and watching EWTN. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine, three sons Rev. B. Thomas of Newark, Daniel (Meg) of Irondequoit, Timothy (Kathy) of Jupiter, Fl., two daughters Michele Celso of Auburn and Mary (Steve) Seely of Stanley; eleven grandchildren: Joshua, Jacob, Jessica, Jeremy, Andy, Jeanne, Abigail, Sarah, Mat, Chris and Mary Grace, two great grandsons Jeffrey and Ryan; his sisters Mary Pizzillo of Canandaigua and Lucy Lawrence of Los Angeles, sister-in-laws Florence and Tina Celso, many nieces, nephews and many, many friends. Greco, Joe - Joseph F. Greco, 70, of Newark died unexpectedly, May 31, 2008, at his home on Cole Road. Joe was born September 29, 1937 in Newark, the son of Joseph and Mary Phillips Greco. A plumber, he had worked for Lagana Plumbing for more than 30 years. Joe and his brother Francis then operated Greco Plumbing and Heating. He served with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963 and was a member of the August Mauer Post American Legion. Joe loved to go fishing and camping. He is survived by his fiancee Phyllis Wagner. He was a loving father and grandfather of three children: Debbie (Mitch) Ruffalo of Newark, Julie (Steve) Roelands of Virginia Beach, and Joseph P. (Penny) Greco of Newark, and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother Anthony Ramos of Clyde, two sisters Catherine Bachman of Waterloo, and Marie Wilkie of Syracuse, several nieces, nephews and his ex-wife and friend Loretta Pollock of Hudson, Florida. Laplant, Norm - Norman C. LaPlant, 76, of Newark died May 25, 2008. He was born March 29, 1932, in Rochester, son of Joseph and Lora VanDamme LaPlant. Norm worked for 25 years at Garlock, Inc., retiring in 1993. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars. Harris, Jeanne A. – Jeanne Aileen Harris, 82 died peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, May 23, 2008. Family and friends may call Thursday (May 29) from 4 to 6 at the Norman L. Mrs. Harris was born the daughter of the late Robert and Thelma Fischer Verschleiser on Sept. 25, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was a graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications. After graduation she moved to California where she married the late Robert Harris. While in Los Angeles, she anchored a radio talk show for three years. This was followed by a partnership in a public relations firm. When the firm was sold, she joined a major health care organization as Vice President. While there, she created Census Builder, a subsidiary of the corporation, and later purchased it from the company. At retirement, she moved to Newark to be near her children. Biddle, Thomas - The honorable Thomas W. Biddle of Newark, who was elected to five terms as Justice of the Village of Newark, died May 21, 2008, after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Jane; daughter Susan 'Muffy' Biddle Jaffe and son-in-law Charles Jaffe of Cohasset, Massachusetts; granddaughters Thomson Elizabeth Biddle Jaffe and Whitney Rose Biddle Jaffe, also of Cohasset; nieces and nephews; and loving caregivers, who helped make his later years comfortable and enjoyable. Born in Ann Arbor Michigan, Tom Biddle graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1943. He was a dedicated public servant and volunteer, who took on roles as a director of no less than half dozen community groups as a sidelight to a distinguished law career. His public service began with his Army service from 1944-1946, where he saw combat with Company L, 262nd Infantry; earning a Purple Heart for injuries suffered in the sinking of the troop ship Leopoldville, which claimed the lives of more than 750 American soldiers in the 1944 Christmas Eve disaster; one of the worst troop-ship disasters in US Naval history. After the war, he returned to Ann Arbor to study at the University of Michigan, where he combined his lifelong passion for Michigan football with the love of his life, Jane Lammert. He courted Jane while earning his undergraduate degree. They married in 1950, spent their earliest years together as he worked towards his law degree at Michigan. Together, they have been ardent Michigan fans for more than 50 years. After getting his law degree in 1952, Biddle was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1953. After a brief tenure with the Rochester law firm Nixon & Hargrave, he opened his own law office in Newark in 1954. Biddle took his interest in the law beyond his private practice and into the community. Aside from his 20 years as Newark Village Justice, he also served as an assistant district attorney for Wayne County, Town Counsel to the Town of Arcadia from 1971-91, and chairman of the Wayne County Conditional Release Commission for two years, ending in 1991. Biddle took a position as a member of the State Board of Parole, where he served four more years. Tom also was a member of the Wayne County bar Association for more than 30 years, serving as president in 1965-67; served on the board of Directors and was president in 1961-62 of the Newark Lions Club, on the board of the Arcadia community Chest, 1956-62, serving as president in 1961. He was a board member of the Newark Chamber of Commerce 1957-60. The Biddles were instrumental in starting the Humane Society of Wayne County, where he served on the board of directors from 1986-1991, and co-chaired with his wife, the Capital Campaign, that raised $140,000 toward establishment of the group's shelter. After retiring from public service, he stayed active, serving as the Republican Election Commissioner of Wayne County, even after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2003. He also continued performing civil wedding ceremonies, most recently just a month ago. He will be long remembered for his integrity, forthrightness and compassion. Biddle served on the Advisory Board of the Wayne County Community Endowment and Component Fund of the Rochester Area Foundation, from 1985-91, was a member of the and Past Master of the Newark Masonic Lodge, the District Grand Master of the Wayne County region in 1981 and the Newark Elks Lodge. He was a member of the August Mauer Post, American Legion, and proudly participated in the Memorial Day Parades. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, serving on the Board of Trustees from 1966-72 and acting as chairman of the board from 1970-72. Miller-Savard, Vicki - Dr. Vicki Miller-Savard, 42, of Manchester died May 17, 2008 in a white-water-rafting accident on the Cheat River in West Virginia. She was there on vacation, with her husband Kerry and their long-time friends, Don and Marcella Burkard. She is survived by her loving husband, Kerry Savard; her father, Robert (Joyce) Miller; her brother, Brian (Sarah) Miller; her in-laws, Jim (Sue) Savard; her sister-in-laws, Shelly (Don) Roberts, Kim (Jason) Condon; her brother-in- law, Tracy (Michelle) Savard; her nieces, Kendra, Stephanie, and Robin Miller; Mackenzie Roberts, Kristin Savard, and Talia Martinez; her nephews, Tanner, John, and Michael Miller; Dylan Roberts, Jakob Savard, and Nolan Condon. Dr. Savard is predeceased by her mother, Sue Miller, and her brother, Robin Miller. The daughter of Sue and Robert Miller, Dr. Savard was a 1983 graduate of Bloomfield Central High School. In 1985 she graduated from The State University of New York at Canton and later went on to achieve her Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. Immediately thereafter, she earned her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from The Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago in 1994. In partnership with her colleague and friend, Dr. Carrie O'Neil, Dr. Savard built a thriving medical practice, Complete Foot Care, with offices in Seneca Falls and Newark. Dr. Savard was affiliated with both Geneva General Hospital and Newark Wayne Community Hospital, and was a respected member of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (Board Certified), the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the New York State Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Savard is warmly remembered by many life-long friends and extended family members. She loved life and lived hers to the fullest. Her many interests included golf, soccer, running, biking, and camping. Neely, Warren - Warren G. Neely, 86, of Clermont, FL, formerly of Newark, died May 20, 2008. He was born March 4, 1922 in Rochester, son of Orville Frank Neely and Elsie Eberwein Neely. Following service in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he was a high school principal, teacher and coach who touched many lives during his career. He was past president of the Newark Rotary Club and former board member Newark Public Library. A central Florida resident since 1981, he was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clermont. Surviving is his wife Gene Smith Neely, whom he married on June 24, 1950; son Stephen (Mary Alice) Neely of Springfield, Ohio, and their children Katie, Matthew & Chris; and son Rick (Robyn) Neely of Windermere, Florida and their children Connor and Sarah. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth Neely. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Clermont. Crane, Larry - Larry Anthony Crane, 55, of Newark died May 18, 2008 at Clifton Springs Hospital after a battle with cancer. Larry was born the son of the late Donson and Nancy Sacco Crane on February 9, 1953 in Sodus. He began his career as a mechanic at Finewood Motors and also worked 20 years for Mike Barnard Chevrolet in Newark. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, camping, cook outs, family and friends. He is survived by his wife Georgia Stacy Crane; son David (Michele) VanGorder of Shortsville; daughter Elisa VanGorder of Rome, NY; grandchildren Hunter, Christian and Johanna; sisters Hope Cappa of Syracuse and Lynne Littlefield of Texas; nieces and nephews; and dear friend, Ron Holder. Breen, David Sr. - David J. Breen, Sr., 83, of Palmyra, died May 17, 2008. Dave joined his father and family in the grocery business, where they worked in the Wayne County area for many years. Seyfried, Jim - James Edward Seyfried, 68, of Phelps died May 13, 2008, at the House of John Hospice. Jim served in the Air Force. He owned and operated J&N Lock and Key Service, Dover, Delaware and Wild Bird Emporium, Canandaigua. He retired from Chase Pitkin in Newark. Jim was a long-time member of the National Campers and Hikers Association and the Ontario Pathways. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hyde Seyfried, formerly of LeRoy; daughter, Debra Dennis; three grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra and Matthew, all of Phelps; brothers, John of Farmington and Michael of Batavia; 10 nieces and nephews, and many cousins. Denosky (Nichols), Agnes, "Peg"- Peg Denosky, 73, of Palmyra, died on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Clifton Springs Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer. Peg was born on March 26, 1935 in Newark, NY. She was a graduate of Clifton Springs High School and a retiree of Garlock in Palmyra. Peg was a member of the First Baptist Church of Manchester and a former member of the First Baptist Church of Palmyra. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the Thursday Lunch Bunch at church and quilting in her spare time. Cameron, Randy - Randy S. Cameron, 53, of Boca Raton, Florida died May 15, 2008 after an extended illness. He was born July 28, 1954 in Newark, son of Harry and Janet (Fisk) Cameron. Arbogast, Elvin - Elvin L. Arbogast, 77, of Newark, died May 15, 2008 at the DeMay Living Center. Elvin was born in Pennsylvania on September 25, 1930. He served in the Army in the Korean War and was involved in the VA Hospital in Canandaigua. He retired from Mobil Chemical Co. in Macedon in 1991 as a printer. Kelly, Connie - Constance Legg Kelly, 78, of Newark died May 13, 2008 at Highland Hospital. She was born June 12, 1929, in Rochester, the daughter of William and Alda Will Boswell. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and as an Elder. Connie volunteered for many years with the Boxwood Twig at the Newark Hospital. She was a member of the Newark Garden Club and Newark Country Club. She enjoyed, rug hooking, gardening, playing Bridge, and golf. Deisering, Fran - Francis P. Deisering, 74, of Waterloo died May 12, 2008, at Geneva General Hospital. Fran was born in Clifton Springs, Aug. 2, 1933; son of Peter & Regina Maslyn Deisering. He was a supervisor for NDC and was in charge of a home in Clifton Springs. He farmed and worked for the Paul Rockefeller family on their farm. He was an avid fisherman and showed miniature horses. He was a member of the NRA and American Miniature Horse Association. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline Lush Deisering, whom he married Aug. 2, 1974. Johnson, Evelyn - Evelyn Ring Cummings Johnson, 76, of Canandaigua, died May 8, 2008 in Canandaigua. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at St. Michael's Church, 325 South Main Street, Newark. Burial will follow in Newark Cemetery. She was born August 22,1931, in Newark, daughter Frederic and Margaret Parys Ring. After graduating from Newark High School in 1949, Evie left her hometown to pursue a job in modeling. This led her to an exciting and adventure-filled career as a flight attendant for Colonial Airlines. She left the airlines to marry and raise her family in Waltham, MA. Following the untimely death (1972) of her first husband, Willis A. Cummings, she reentered to the work force as a secretary, first for the Plympton Elementary School in Waltham and then the Learning Prep School in Newton, MA. In 1998, she married her long-time friend Roger L. Johnson, Sr., and spent her remaining years residing in Canandaigua. She had a creative and artistic mind that loved beautiful things and had an eye for fashion and interior decorating. She was most at peace at home with her husband Roger, surrounded by her gardens, wild birds and beautiful views of her beloved Canandaigua Lake. Swartz, Hazel - Hazel May Swartz, 99, died peacefully on May 6, 2008, at the Newark Manor, just a month shy of her 100th birthday. She was born June 6, 1908 in Newark, to Frederick and Emma Hollowbeck Allen. She was a 1926 graduate of Newark High School. She worked at Superior Body Sales for many years as a secretary. She taught Sunday School at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She was a great nature lover and enjoyed flowers, bird watching and walking. She is survived by her son Richard (Carol) Swartz of Greece; grandchildren Craig (Peg) of Webster, Bart (Trina), Clinton (Laura) and Lorie Hayes all of Greece; great grandchildren Lisa, Stacie, Cody, Jennifer, Eric Swartz and Heather Hayes; sister Betty Ahrans of Newark; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1987 by her husband, Franklin J. Swartz; and by brothers Marion and Bob Allen, sisters Esther Frantz and Evelyn Evans. Calling hours are May 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Norman L. Sermon, Emma Jean - Emma Jean Sermon, 86, formerly of Sodus, died May 3, 2008 in Asheboro, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents, loving husband Howard; three brothers and two sisters. She is survived by daughter Pat Myers; son Edwin (Sherrill) Sermon, grandchildren; Teresa (Ralph) Shaffer, Jeff Myers, Kristian Myers, Jonathan (Sheila) Sermon, Kristin Bowden, Sean (Betty) Sermon, and Brian Sermon; and nine great-grandchildren. Emma Jean was employed for many years at Sarah Coventry in Newark. She and her husband Howard enjoyed camping, hiking, canoeing, biking and cross country skiing with their friends in Sodus. For 20 years they spent the month of August in New Hampshire, where they were often joined by friends. She loved playing Bridge and belonged to several Bridge Clubs. She enjoyed quilting and needlepoint, collecting light houses and antique dishes. Calling hours are Friday May 9, 2-5 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home in Sodus. Hazel was born June 6,1914, in Richfield Springs, daughter of Frank and Mary (Jones) Armstrong. She graduated from Richfield Springs Central School in 1933 and married Earl Richard Parsons on May 1, 1936 in Oneonta. He predeceased her on September 23, 2005. She is survived by three children: daughter Phyllis (John) Greene of Newark, two sons, Gene (Janet) Parsons of New Milford, CT, and Richard (Kathleen) Parsons of Laurens, NY; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Beverly Ritchko of Oneonta, Marilou (David) Stewart of New Hope, PA, and Josephine Parsons of Oneonta; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, Harrie Armstrong, two sisters, Elda Sheldon and Eleanor Gravelding. Rooze, Doris - Doris M. Rooze, 91, of North Creek Road, Palmyra, died May 4, 2008. Doris was born Aug. 3, 1916 in Marion, daughter of Joseph and Susie Moose Orbaker. Paliotti, Tony - Anthony P. Paliotti, 87, of Lyons died April 25, 2008 at DeMay Living Center. Tony was born April 9, 1921, in Lyons, son of Philip and Mary DeTorio Paliotti. He served in the Army during World War II in the MASH unit in the Pacific Theater. He worked in their appliance store, Philco Appliances, in his earlier years and operated Paliotti Shoe Store with his father for many years. He drove school bus for Lyons Central School for 39 years. He was a charter member of the Lyons VFW, where he served as commander and treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Lyons American Legion. He was a member of the Lyons Rotary, where he served as secretary. He was a member of St. Michael's Church. He played with the Drum & Bugle Corps and for the Apple Knockers. He served on the Lyons National Bank Board for over 30 years and was a member of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce. In February, he celebrated 64 years with his beloved wife, Marge, who died Feb. 12, 2008. He is survived by his son, Robert James (Ni) of Cambodia; brother, Phil (Mary) of Lyons; sister, Dorothy Maddox of Ft. Myers, FL; nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marge; and sister, Phyllis Herley. Arrangements entrusted to Boeheim-Pusateri Funeral Home, Lyons. Interment is in South Lyons Cemetery. Ohmann, Myron - Myron Carmer Ohmann, 91, of Lyons died April 26, 2008. He was born August 24, 1916, in Lyons. He was a member for 79 years of the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons. A graduate of Lyons High School and St. Lawrence University, he did graduate work at Columbia University and Syracuse University. He was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served from April 1941 to December 1945 in the Pacific Theater. He married Katherine Negus of Lyons in 1945. From 1945 to 1958, he and his brother, Robert, owned the Ohmann Brothers Jewelry Store and Theater in Lyons. He then taught mathematics at Williamson High School for 23 years. He loved to golf and was a member of Wayne Hills Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Ohmann, four children: Burt Ohmann and his wife, Susan, Sara Bush and her husband, Bill, Kathy Anderson and her husband, Dave, and Wendy Fowler and her husband Jim; 11 grandchildren. She was married April 30, 1942 in East Palmyra to Isaac J. DePoint, Jr. She had worked for Garlock in Palmyra for over 30 years and was a former member of the Palmyra Kings Daughters. Madelin is survived by her son James DePoint of Palmyra; brother-in-law Jacob DePoint of Marion and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Hamelinck, Carolyn - Carolyn T. Hamelinck, 80, of Newark died unexpectedly at her home on April 21, 2008. She was born November 16, 1927 in Arcadia, daughter of the late Roy and Jessica Gregor Trask. She was a 1946 graduate of Newark High School. As a sales clerk, she worked for Ames in Newark for 30 plus years. She was a member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing cards every Wednesday. She traveled with the Port Gibson Senior Citizens and played Bingo player every Monday night at St. Michael Church. She enjoyed reading, and being with her grandchildren. She was an 18-year cancer survivor. She is remembered by her sons John Hamelinck and Paul Hamelinck, both of Newark; daughters Janet (Mahlon Butch) Lathrop of Palmyra and Lori (Daniel) Shippers of Sodus; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother Maurice Trask of Syracuse and sister Louisa Voyles of Arizona; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1987 by her husband John; in 2006 by granddaughter Jennifer Peck; in 2007 by her daughter-in-law Linda Hamelinck; and by siblings Ralph Trask and Etta Mae Rice. She was a medical secretary for 35 years and worked for the Newark Medical Center, Clifton Springs Hospital and Midlakes Management. She retired from Gould Pumps in Seneca Falls and in her earlier years worked for J.L. Hammett Co. of Lyons. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Lyons. She is survived by her daughter Loriann (Annie) (John) Gilmore of Bristol Harbor; grandson, Derick Stratton of Geneva; sister, Mary Nellis of Lyons; niece, Diane. Russell; nephew, James Nellis, other nieces and nephews in Ireland. Predeceased by husband Homer in 2001. Memorials appreciated at First Lutheran Church, Broad St. Lyons, 14489. White, Wayne - Wayne Everett White, 59, of Sodus died April 13, 2008. Wayne was a lifelong resident of Sodus, and a Sodus fireman for many years. He is survived by his parents Everett and Rayma White; sons Rodney (Michele), Gerald (Christina), and James (Stephanie); grandchildren Heidi, Darien, Ashley and Kimmy; brothers Robert (Marilyn) and Dale (Anita); sister Cynthia Sawyer. Wayne was predeceased by a brother Dennis. Calling hours will be Monday, April 21 from 5-8 p.m. at Norton Funeral Home, 45 West Main Street, Sodus. The funeral will follow visitation. Comella, Anthony - Anthony R. 'Tony' Comella, 87, of Newark, died April 11, 2008 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Tony was born May 17, 1920, in Canandaigua the son of Philip and Mary Comella, who had settled in Newark, after arriving from Sicily. He was a 1939 graduate from the Washington High School in Newark. In the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant, he served in World War II in the China, Burmese and India Theater. During that time, three of his other brothers also served. The Comella home at West Sherman Avenue in Newark proudly displayed a four-star banner. He is a member of the VFW Arcadia Memorial Post #2883. He had been employed for over 40 years, by the Bilotta Enterprises as an amusement machine repairman. He and his wife retired to Florida in 1994. He is survived by his daughter Diane (Jerold) Goldstein and their daughters Lindsey and Raegan of New Jersey; grandson Anthony (Elise) Comella and their sons John and Anthony of Newark; brother George (Vera) Comella of Newark; former daughter-in-law Donna Comella of Lyons; several nieces and nephews. Tony was predeceased in 2005 by his wife Dorothy, by a son Philip in 1994, and siblings Edward, Philip, Josephine and Michael. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday (April 18) at Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery, with full military honors.

Snedeker, Gretchen - Gretchen MacIntyre Snedeker, 24, of Rochester, was killed April 10, 2008, in an automobile accident in Madison County. She was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and had lived and attended schools in Newark. She was a 2001 Newark graduate, known in the Newark district as a fine musician and actor. She was a candidate for a Master's Degree in horn performance at the Eastman School of Music. She leaves behind her beloved parents, Jay and Kathy (Kraus) Snedeker of Baldwinsville; fiance Andy Smith of Liverpool; maternal grandparents Terry and Joan Kraus of Howlett Hill and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Gretchen's family invites you to join them for a memorial walk at Beaver Lakes Nature Center in Baldwinsville, on Thursday, April 17, at 3 p.m. Please dress casually and appropriately for the weather. A Musical Tribute in memory of Gretchen will be held at the Eastman School of Music in the near future. Please check the Eastman School of Music web site at www.esm.rochester.edu for a date and time. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Gretchen may be made to the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra, c/o Hochstein Music School, 50 N. Plymouth Ave., Rochester 14614. Gretchen's spirit lives on and her body has been passed on through the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation, and her beautiful eyes have been donated as well.

Craft, Vincent - Vincent W. Craft, 85, of Palmyra, died April 12, 2008. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings and a daughter. He is survived by his wife Jean, and son Mark (Carla) Craft, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours are today, April 14 from 7-9 p.m. and April 15 from 2-4 & 7-9 at McGuire/Hargrave & Murphy Funeral Home, 123 East Jackson St., Palmyra. Funeral service will be held s at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Palmyra Reformed Church. Burial at Palmyra Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palmyra Volunteer Ambulance Oxygen Squad.
