Happenings - 11/22/96 issue By Carolyn Adriaansen (926-4436) - 11/22/96 issue Marion 7th and 8th graders will be taking part ir Operation Respect - Honor our Soldiers. A specie day to honor Marion's military vets will be held or February 11. On December 3, the youths will visit the Marion Cemetery to locate graves of soldiers who servec in conflicts and wars. There will be a morning anc afternoon visit to the cemetery. Congratulations to our cross country runners Freshman John Mark Hussey is the 1996 Section 5 Class C boys champ! Mark is one of the top ninth grader runners in the State. Rebecca Lewis and Crystal Wheeler ran well to finish in the Class CC top 10 and win Section 5 shields. The school board met on November 20 and has a meeting planned for Monday, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. On December 1, immediately following their morning worship service, the members of the First Reformed Church will be decorating the Christmas tree and sanctuary. Coffee, hot chocolate and cookies will be served by the Youth Group. Also, this will be the first Sunday of Advent and there will be a Communion Service during the Morning Worship Service. The Eighth Grade Pasta Dinner will be held on December 2, in the Marion Junior-Senior High School Cafeteria. (Bring your appetite and your bib!) Carrie White informs me that those 60 years of age and over may attend the Wellness Clinic held at the Drumlin Estates Community Room from 10 to noon, the second Friday of the month. No charge. Milton Ameele had successful cataract surgery recently. Anna Hoffman is recuperating at her home. Bill Lane has returned home. from a stay at the hospital. Bob Wage is home from the hospital and undergoing rehabilitation. "Happy Birthday Wishes" to Leona Hunter on November 19 from her family! Thanks! from the family of Donald De Lue to those who remembered them with cards, flowers, prayers and other remembrances. It was greatly appreciated. Albert and Dolores Somerset spent the weekend at Beach Lake, in Pennsylvania. They visited Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Van Scott. The Marion Supper Club is meeting tonight at the Log Cabin Restaurant at 7. Call Marion Cheal at 589-8719, if you haven't already. The Marion Museum will be open for the "holiday visiting" on Saturday, December 7. The hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served. There will be a display of lovely old children's books and scrapbooks given recently by Margaret Curtis, along with a box of toys she has graciously contributed. The gift shop will be open, a chance to do some Christmas shopping. REMEMBER: "You're only old once!" The Senior High Group, at the United Church, will assist the Salvation Army in serving dinner next Sunday, in Rochester. They would like to take at least 15 pies with them. If you are able to contribute one or more pies, please contact Joan Fisher at 926-5346. A breakfast to benefit the children of Shirley Miller Spring will be held at the United Church on Sunday morning, December 8 from 7:30 to 9:30. Congratulations to Rebecca and Scott McGinnis on the Nov. 4 birth of Rachel Kathryn. She weighed in at 7 Ibs., 4 oz. For those who are interested, the address is 812 Wade Ave, Rockville, Md. 20851 Congratulations go to Clark and Helen Dingman, home Thursday from Austin, Texas, where they welcomed their new granddaughter, Devon Michelle Ellis, 8 Ibs., 3 oz. Happy parents are Randolph and Patricia. The Marion Food Pantry is in need of volunteers. If you are an adult or a senior high student, a junior high student with an adult partner, your help would be appreciated. You would be scheduled for a day about every six weeks. The pantry is open Tuesday 2 to 3 p.m. and Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 to 10 a.m. There will be a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Gregory's at 9 a.m. Thursday. Special blessings will be offered to those in the congregation, who provide services to our community, such as the Food Pantry, The Habitat for Humanity and the Migrant workers. All are welcome to attend. Happy Birthday to Ann Patric on November 23 and to Cyril Smith on November 24. November 27, 1924 - George E. Lookup will graduate from the Rangers School of Forestry at Wanakena, on December 10. On November 24, the sixth annual Discovery Day Fiesta will take place in the Second Reformed Church annex between 12:30 and 4 p.m. This is an opportunity for all of us to share food, fellowship, music and fun with the men from Puerto Rico who have lived among us and worked for six months at the Seneca Foods Plant. Sponsored by the churches and community of Marion through the Intercultural Awareness Committee, the Fiesta is an attempt to enrich our lives through harmony and understanding. The Community Thanksgiving Eve Service will be held at the United Church on Wednesday, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. Rev. Meyer will bring the message titled, "When You Can't Give Thanks." All in the community are welcome. The Noel Luncheon, sponsored' by th'e-'Hearts and Hands Society at the Second Rreforrnecl Church, will be held on Saturday November 23, from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. with lunch available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Gift baskets will be available. THANKS! to those who attended the annual Sauerkraut Supper on Election night, sponsored by the Former Service Club Members. Around $500 was realized for the Scholarship Fund in honor of Dr. Bovet. Chris Christianson was chairman of this year's event. A record number of 190 cases of food was collected by the Marion Boy Scouts. Last year's number was 126 cases making this year the biggest and most successful drive ever! Thanks to everyone who contributed. There will be a Holiday Bake Sale on November 26 at the Newark Wal-Mart, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Support the German Class toward their trip to Germany.
