Bye, Bye Birdie at
Newark High
Rehearsals have been taking place for the Newark
High School production of "Bye, Bye Birdie," which
opens tonight, Friday, March 7 at 8 p.m. Another performance
tomorrow night is also set for 8.
Eric
Butler plays Conrad Birdie, a rock and roll star about to be
inducted into the Army. A publicity stunt is set up with an
average teen-age girl to kiss Birdie good bye on The Ed Sullivan
Show. The teen, Kim
MacAfee,
will be played by Sarah Bald. When Birdie arrives in the teen's
small hometown of Sweet Apple, Ohio, things start to
"rock." Press agent secretary Rose Alvarez, who sets up
the stunt, is portrayed by Nichole Mangus.
The
musical production is directed by Steve Duprey, with Jean Bendix
directing the vocals and David Schwind directing the instrumental
music. Hit songs include "One Last Kiss," "A Lot
of Livin' to Do," and "Put on a Happy Face." Get
your tickets today at Wegmans service desk for $5, or at the door
for $6.
