News from 1937
This factory during the present season canned 330 tons off cherries and 164,000 quarts of berries: Most of the cherries were water packed for pie stock. Some were canned in syrup and some were prepared for freezing. The berries were all canned in 2's and 10's.
At the Comstock factory the rhubarb will be cleaned up this week. String beans are taken care of as they are ready and some beets have already been taken in. At this factory 512,493 pounds of cherries were handled this season. All water packed in Number 10's. They also canned 126,914 quarts of Columbia berries and 40,871 quarts of black raspberries.
These were put up in water pack and in syrup in Number 2's and 10's.
The Marion Produce Company on North Main Street handled during the same time 175 tons of cherries and 40,000 quarts of berries. A large amount was also bought by Arthur Turner and published a few weeks ago, making approximately 1,922,500 pounds of cherries and 470,900 quarts of berries handed by these firms.
A carload of carrots has been shipped this week by the Marion Produce Company. Some early celery is coming in and is being packed for shipment the Trombetta packing house.
