Class of 1948 plants ivy

The ivy planting tradition was started about the year 1913 and has since been practiced by each class upon graduation. After class night, on graduation night, the class and guests gather on the school lawn, and the President and Vice President of the graduating class plant the ivy along the front wall of the school.

In the school library, in its showcase, there is a small spade which is used in planting the ivy.

Each class, after the ivy planting, places ribbons of its class colors upon this spade. The blue and silver of the class of 1949 will soon take its place upon the spade handle with the ribbons of preceding years. This ivy is a growing memorial left by each class.

(The spade is now in the Marion Museum in the Heritage Room.)
