The Willow Ave. Hotel
The first photo of the Willow Ave. Hotel was taken by Newark photographer Ralph E. Briggs (perhaps in the 1940s). The Hotel was located at 180 North Main St. - probably a frequent stop for those traveling the West Shore Branch of the Penn Central Railroad. Proprietor of the Hotel was Clarence L'huiller of 126 Ford St.

The later photo shows its dilapidated remains, just before it was razed as part of the 1970s Urban Renewal Project. Photographer was then-Mayor Milton Elzufon. The Hotel's N. Main Street quadrant was scheduled by Urban Renewal to be the site of a new Post Office and an entry to a Route 31 bypass that was to be constructed along the abandoned West Shore rails.
