Welcome to Rose
The Town of Rose is situated in the center of eastern Wayne County. North Rose is a
hamlet of Rose, but has, over the years, outgrown the heart of "downtown" Rose.
A rural, agricultural setting makes this town a beautiful site. It also made for a booming railroad community. In the late 1800's, when
the rails were placed through North Rose, fruit and grain storehouses were built to await
processing and shipping. The surrounding farmland was a bounty and the harvest would be
railed to other parts of the country, and indeed, the world.
The 1990 U.S. Census placed the Rose population at 2,424 - just
about that of its neighboring Village of Clyde. That census also showed that although Rose
has a relatively low population compared to western Wayne County, it has the highest
percentage of residents still living on farms - 10 percent of its 2,424 residents.
The Town, like the other 14 in the county, is governed by a Supervisor and a
four-member Council. The average home sale price in 2001 was $63,000.
A tour around reveals some of the late 1800's
architecture. Many homes, businesses and churches are still adorned with their original
Gothic windows, gingerbread trim, gables and steeples.
