Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

How's everyone faring after the first week of summer vacation?

Don't forget the Summer Reading Programs at the Libraries. They can make the summer more adventurous. The Williamson Library has plenty to do. Click here to see what's going on. You didn't forget to register on the 26 of June, did you? I'm sure there is still time, but hurry! Your child doesn't want to miss out on all the fun. There will be Storytimes and even movie nights. And filling out the reading data sheets is a lot of fun.

The Sodus Free Library will begin registration on July 5, but if you'll be gone on vacation or busy that week, it'll be fine to sign up anytime. When you register your children for the Reading Program, they will receive a bag filled with the six-week schedule, instructions for participating, a reading log, a bookmark and a pencil. Children who attend on July 5 will be able to help in the construction of a robot made out of recycled things and tin foil. The program promises reading activities to go with each age group, crafts with Sand from the Kraft Shack and lots of prizes! Sounds like a fun and educational way to spend the summer, and you can join both, if you'd like. (Happy belated birthday Carol! Just turned 29? Is that right, Carol?)

This weekend is going to be really busy! The Sodus Point Firemen Parade will be held tonight at 7 p.m. Tomorrow, I have a picnic to attend, but nothing as much fun as Wayne County has planned. There will be pet adoptions at the Lyons Farmers' Sara with bubbles Market, 7:30 - ll a.m. at the Village Park. Then at l0 a.m., the Sodus Point Kiddie Parade will take place. Fireworks at the Point are at l0 p.m.

On the 4th of July, it's Breakfast on the Bluff at the the Sodus Point Lighthouse. Gap Mangione and his Big Band will play at 3 p.m. Bring your appetite in the morning and your lawn chair in the afternoon. (All summer long, the concerts are a wonderful way to spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon.)

On Wednesday, July 5, the Williamson Senior Citizens are having a Weenie Roast at 5:30 p.m. Then on July 6, there will be a blood drive at the Williamson Methodist Church, 2 to 7 p.m. That's also movie night at the Williamson Library, 6 p.m.

Shawna Pike has started her new summer job. She will be working for the Williamson Animal Hospital on Rt.l04. She will be working six days a week cleaning and helping out with the animals and she will receive work experience credit through the school. Shawna intends to go to college to become a vet one geraniums day, so this is great experience for her.

Jeremy Pike will be involved with the Community Center this summer and Melanie is working on Summer Projects, as well. She is planning her annual 4th of July Picnic. (In passing their house in the evening, you may have caught a glimpse of them practicing their badminton strategies. I used to catch them many a night while going for a walk.

Speaking of the Pike children, Jeremy received several awards at the Middle School Awards Ceremony. Both Jeremy and Shawna received pins for the Principal's List. Congratulations to you both.

Thanks to everyone who has shared information with me to include in the column. If you have something you'd like to share, please write to me at
