Public Safety in Wayne County is secured by the
homebase of the Wayne County Sheriff's Department
and Jail complex, Route 31, Lyons. The
facility was renovated and expanded in 1994. The original construction dates to 1961.
The expanded facility has been able to house inmates from outside the County, bringing
revenue from other counties and the Federal government. In 2003, that revenue totaled
nearly $179,000.
The Department is run
by Sheriff Richard Pisciotti, who has served since1982, when (at age 36) he became the
youngest Sheriff ever elected in Wayne County. He has worked in Wayne County law
enforcement for over thirty years. Undersheriff is William Pulver. The Department phone
number is (315) 946-9711.
The rear of the jail is pictured here with (in the foreground) a road patrol
vehicle and the Department's Underwater Search and Rescue Vehicle.
The Department includes Deputy Road Patrol, a
Detective/Criminal Investigator Unit, K-9 unit, an Inmate Work Program, and a Recreational
Safety Unit, which assists in patrolling the county's Lake Ontario shorelines,
parks and trails.) For underwater work, the Dept. has a Search & Recovery
Unit. There is a Bicycle Patrol unit that conducts specialized patrols for such
events as Lyons Peppermint Days, the Williamson Apple Blossom Festival and the Wayne
County Fair. The Detective Division includes 8 plain clothes officers. The
Department also provides security for the Wayne County Hall of Justice (pictured).
There are Department substations in Marion, Ontario and Sodus.
The Rt. 31 department complex also houses Fire
Control/Emergency Central Dispatch, including Enhanced-911. Emergency
telephone service for 911 began in early 1998. It includes 20 full-time and five part-time
dispatchers under the direction of E-911 Coordinator James Lee. (Pictured is
dispatcher Frank Quinn.)
Fire Coordinator Rick Bond can be reached at (315) 946-5640.
The County's Arson Hotline is (315) 946-5820.
The Complex is also home to the Wayne County Emergency Management
Office. Director

substations of the New York State Police, Troop "E" - in Lyons, Wolcott and
Williamson. Many of the County's villages also have Police Departments. Towns and villages
provide ambulance and fire services. Some departments are all volunteer and some are paid.
