 NHS golf results Newark will be sending Ben Williams and Josh DePorter to the 1997 Sectionals to be held in the spring. Williams fired a 77, four strokes behind Victor's Chris Horgan's 73, to finish fourth overall at the Sectional qualifier at Silver Creek in Waterloo.
Other Newark golfers, who competed but did not place, were Brent Burgess, Ben Converse, and Sean Salber, all with scores of 83. Thirty-three golfers played in the qualifier. The Sectional tournament will be held next May at Midvale Country Club in Penfield. The Finger Lakes East plays its golf season in the fall, while most of Section 5 plays in the Spring. Ninth grader DePorter had to earn his
berth in the Sectionals the hard way. He won the final and eighth spot in a four-way
playoff against Honeoye's Ryan Holevinski, Geneva's John Cecere and Mynderse Academy's
Steve Pettrone. Deporter fired an 80 for the final spot.
